This is a great movie theater... with a great owner and super friendly staff. Showing great indie movies and also first-run flicks. They need our business right now in the Covid mess!!
Went here to see The Farewell. I enjoyed coming to this theater more than I had thought I would. Obviously, its not like the typical chain movie theater. It has character and it was a pleasant evening out at the movies without lines to wait in, sticky floors, loudness of any kind (except for the movie). Ill be coming back, for sure.
Simple well kept community movie house. Lower than megaplex prices. Beer and wine available. Not just art house films. Several lunch and dinner restaurants within a block or two. Very friendly local atmosphere.
This historical theater is all original outside and in. Great for art house films. Great staff prices are right in line with the AMCs & the Showcases. But he has great films that a lot of the time the big theaters wont carry. So go lose yourself in a Hollywood art film. Have a soda & popcorn and some fun.
Nostalgic theater keeping up with the times. Some first rate and some sleeper movies.
Where else can you see a movie for 10.00? Great local cinema, comfortable seating, rarely crowded. Wish they would also show independent films. I think there is a need for this in the Braintree/ Weymouth area ( we go to Dedham Community Theater now but would love to see these films closer to home and I think it would bring in more customers.
Really beautiful place, as soon as you are in, you are transported to those cinemas we had in the past, in the 70s ... You are not going to find these cinemas in Spain or very difficult to find them. Well done!
Love this cozy historic movie house. Just go. Dont wait enjoy real time ambiance
Great small community theatre with many independent films you don’t get at every big chain movie theater... price can’t be best
The place is dirty and run down. The projector bulb blew after the first hour of a three hour movie. It took 45 minutes to repair while the movie was running with no picture. The owner then said he couldnt refund the money because the STUDIO PROHIBITS ANY FORM OF REIMBURSEMENT! Also, he says his credit card machine only CHARGES, ITS INCAPABLE OF REIMBURSING!! The owner is a pathological liar that also believes his patrons are all stupid apparently.
My grandmother and I drove nearly an hour to Dedham to see A Hidden Life at noon on 1/12/19 and the movie immediately started skipping and flickering. I have some experience making DCPs (digital cinema packages - the hard drive that the studios send theaters that they then feed into their digital projectors), and I recognized the error immediately as something Ive experienced with faulty DCPs. After 10-15 minutes of restarting the film, I spoke to an employee and explained to him my prediction-- that the error was due to a bad DCP and that they werent going to be able to fix it. He said that they thought it was because the anti-tampering device on the projector was overheating. The manager came into the theater and said they were going to try to fix this, but that full refunds would be issued to anyone who didnt want to wait.I sat down and eventually they got the film working... for about thirty minutes until the same problem happened. I reported this to an employee, and asked for a refund, and this time he told me that he could only give me a free ticket for another film. I was visiting my grandmother, and the theater is 3 hours away, so this was valueless to me. Frustrated, I went back into the theater and waited for them to get the film running again.... for another 20 minutes, when the same error happened again. I again asked for refund, and this time an employee apologized a said that they were having this problem before and thought that they had fixed it. So they knew the DCP wasnt working, and still sold tickets! Why wouldnt they cancel the showings until they were sent a working copy of the film?At this point, I was furious and my grandmother and I left without a refund. Its such a shame because it was the only theater playing the film and the prices were reasonable. If you do go to this theater, keep your fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong.
Watched. A fabulous movie not shown elsewhere.
Some good movies you can’t see any place else
Very clean and well kept in the heart of downtown Dedham
Comfortable theater with a vintage style
I absolutely love, love, love this place!!I like that I can enjoy a beer or wine w/ my movie. Popcorn & candy are available as well. It is a Community Theater. It used to have the Museum of bad art which is now at Davis Sq theater. ( another great spot). It does not have the huge reclining seats. It has two theaters. It is the closest theater to me ( 10 min from my home). You are supporting a local theater, not a massive superplex with 12, 18 theaters.
My favorite viewing place I feel like I’m home there
I love this place. Lovely old cinema building, showing art circuit movies, with a dedicated local audience. You can get a meal, ice cream, or even catch a band in Dedham Square while you are about it.
This is a little gem of a movie theater, small, clean and reasonable prices.Total opposite of the supersize cinemas of today
Nice local theatre. For serious movie goer. I think popcorn has real butter
We love this theater! Real butter on the popcorn, beer and wine, and great movies - you cant beat it!
Great small town old theather
Fine older theater from the days of the Silents.....fresh popcorn, soda, beer and wine all available here. Good date place!
Google movie listings are incorrect, but a great old theatre
Great independent movie theater picture enjoy small films
Wonderful local theater showing art house films. A dying breed.
Parasite was awesome!
Great little community theater showing the more interesting, less commercial type movies. Its a great night out.
Great independent movies. Parking can sometimes be tight. Theatre serves wine and popcorn, hits the spot. Enjoy the area visiting other stores.
Quaint and the popcorn was some the best Ive had at a theater. A hidden gem.
I enjoy going to this theater very much. Theres free parking, plenty of places to get coffee and eat before or after the movie. Its a secret gem.
Super nice old theatre, with old fashioned popcorn, and a great bunch of folks that are welcoming and knowledgeable - and darn proud of their little corner of the universe! Also, the men’s room is clean, retro, and nicely looked after. Can’t speak to the ladies room. They seem to run flix ya gotta think about. Most recently really enjoyed Lady Bird.Karen & company, you guys are great!
Some good movies you can’t see any place else.
Always good movies. Its clean and the staff are always pleasant. The popcorn is hot, fresh and they use real butter. Candy, soda, wine and beer is available.
Better maintained than most old-time/historical theaters. The seats were comfortable at first, but the cushions showed their age towards the end of the movie. The projector is a bit loud, so sit further from the back if the background noise will bother you.
AWESOME time I had BACK WORKING there ! THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Love this movie theatre. Great choices in movies- not the mainstream. Delicious home made popcorn.
Very small, warm theater. Love their selection in films.
Our favorite theater - a true community gem! Never overwhelming, noisy or chaotic. Always terrific films that they will hold onto if there is demand, lessening the fear of missing a good film! An adults theater, fairly priced with fresh coffee!
Love this place. Cozy. They have quality films and wine available!
An excellent small community theater showing the best films at reasonable prices.
Love love this old school theater! Excellent choice of films shown at this little gem.
Great little theater great popcorn real butter!!!
The Dedham Community Theatre is located in the middle of Dedham Square. This quaint renovated theatre. All the movies that are here are good ones. They have welcoming staff, fresh popcorn and beverages, even wine. The theatre is comfortable and fun because of ts old fashion charm. The are many coffee shops and restaurants in the square for before or after the movie enjoyment!
Always great to support a local Art cinema. Staff always friendly and inviting.
Quaint locally-owned dual screen theater.
The best movies, nice people, popcorn with real butter
Love this theatre. I just wish they had cookies
Nice cozy movie theatre in Historic Dedham center. Old fashioned but still nice.
The way movie going should be. Uncomplicated. Easy to park. Pay your money, walk in, enjoy.
First time watching a movie here, excellent place I would recommend it, and the staff is very friendly.
A local gem. Quality films, great snacks (even beer!), friendly staff, pretty theatre.
Great old art house. Dont live as close so dont go as often but worth the trip when I do.
A wonderful movie experience and a walk down memory lane with its architecture and atmosphere. Great fun!!!
Always the best Indie movies in an intimate old theatre.
Love this place!!! Very calm, not chaotic. Nice staff! Very clean!
The building, especially in the theaters, definitely needs some TLC, but they always bring the best movies. Also, you cant beat real butter on your freshly popped popcorn.
Local theater with lots of character and great concession stand. Movies are typically independent movies that you otherwise cant watch anywhere else. Staff is always friendly.
Loved this place. Two screens, super old school, and it has beer and wine!
My wife loves this theater. I dont. It is an old theater, nothing special. Lots of old folks seem to dig it
Great local theater!!! I dislike the multi-plex-cinema-plex-quadaplex mall stadium movie theaters for particular films. Dedham is just right, like the Cable Car in Providence, RI.
Old fashioned movie theater with real character. If youre looking for an alternative to the big Hollywood blockbusters, this is where to come.
Classic old theater. Nice staff, sellls beer/wine.
Where I cried because its such a charming 0lace, plus good movies too
Super charming theater, somehow aged gracefully and looks like it did in its heyday. Snack bar is great and serves candy popcorn, beer and wine.
The best theatre with tons of hospitality and charm
Lovely small independent local theater.
Old school theater, a bit rough around the edges but a good place to see high quality movies.
Great movies in a somewhat funky setting, this old vaudeville space in downtown Dedham plays is well curated and reasonably priced. You can even grab a beer while you watch.
Great vintage theater, and the snack bar serves wine and beer!
Step back in time this comminity theater is dated but has enough to handle the boutique film audience.
Fantastic throwback to the local downtown theater.
Charming, local, historic, and entertaining.
Nice small neighborhood theatre and you can buy a beer on the way in to go with your popcorn!
Charming, welcoming, and always great movies. A wonderful gem.
Superb for the last 60 years, and better yet in the last two decades under the McMurtry mantle.
Always the best movies, friendly staff, old time charm!
They always have great movies!
Dedham Community Theatre is from the pre-multiplex era and has all the feel of a small town movie theater--which, of course, it is.Lets start with parking which is never a problem. The theater is on Dedham Sq. Across the street is a free town lot.The two screens are perfectly adequate for he types of movies shown. In other words, no SurroundSound etc. But your viewing experience will be fine. Plenty of seating. These are not little slot auditoriums. The DCT tends to show off-beat, quirky, independent films. The refreshment counter is fully stocked. One can order beers and more. The staff is unfailingly friendly and helpful.I believe that the theater is protected by a law that states its building cannot be used for anything other than showing movies. So it will be around longer than you or I.Give it a try. Its a good little movie house.
Love this place more than my own hair color
Great little theater, current movies, alcohol available
Have gone to this theater for years. Always shows the best films.
Great prices, great movies, love the food and grown up beverages.
Love the theater and all the local eateries.. hated the movie about the people with dementia!!
They have great quirky films at reasonable prices. Wine, too!
Old school charm, reasonable prices, and they sell wine from their own Vineyard! Friendly staff too.
Love this quaint theater
Great place to see independent film
Love the home town feeling
This theater looks like it did in the 1920s. It offers popcorn, teas, and European beers!! Few tables and chairs, and always an Art show from.local artists. I come often with friends
Good prices for the movies wnd good indie films
Great choice of movies and welcoming staff!
Dropped my phone under the seat only to retrieve it covered in mouse droppings..
Good independent films
Very friendly
