Wonderful place to observe birds and other wildlife, or farm animals. The Farms open and all trails are open. The Center is still closed.
One of the nice places to enjoy walking in nature. There is a shallow river that small feet can enjoy and get wet. Trails go around the river, which is the only paved trail, and from it go to prairie, farm, pond, or river walk. Those who love to sit and enjoy nature or listening to birds, there are many place to sit around the shallow river or porches around the center. There is a tower in the prairies about two stories in height.Even when going inside Aullwood Center, the enjoyment continues through different classrooms to have a closer look about what you encounter outside. There’s a tiny zoo of turtles, fishes, and snakes. Also, one can enjoy bird watching from inside. The place is so clean and the staff very friendly and helpful and they can explain and share some time with you.Admissions are $14 for adults, $7 for children, and a family membership is $50 a year for a family of 4. Parking is free and Aullwood Center daily hours are 10am to 5pm.I highly recommend the place to spend time with your family, kids, and friends specially if you love nature. I have a membership and my family and I go almost every two weeks.
This is a great place to spend some time with your kids. I feel its like a hidden gem of Dayton because I never hear people talking about it, but its awesome. In the nature center there is lots to look at and activities for kids. They also have live turtles, snakes, and fish in the nature center. Also a bird watching room many other themed classrooms open to wonder around. Outside the nature center are walking trails. My 3 year old daughter was in heaven when we found fairy houses along one of the trails outside. Also, one of the trails (or you could drive) lead to a real farm. This is all included in one ticket price. While we were there in spring, there were lots of baby farm animals. It was great, you are free to just wonder around and look in the different barns. We saw horses, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks. There was also an outdoor play area for kids, with a tractor and kid sized wheelbarrows for them to play with. We will definitely be back to visit again. We spent probably 2 hours at the nature center/ trails and about and hour at the farm.
Nice nature center with lots to see. Gift shop has quite a bit of items. They offer a lot of events and educational classes which I would try if I lived closer.
Beautiful scenery and flowers. Paths are easy to navigate.
We love visiting Aullwood, but in this review I want to sing the praises of their summer camp program. I have been sending my kids (2-6 years old) there for the past three summers. I don’t think I could find a more perfect camp for them. The camp weeks focus on some aspect of the natural world for the basis of their exploration. They spend lots and lots of time outside- hiking, exploring the creeks and ponds, bird watching, observing insects, caring for the farm animals, building shelters etc. The learn so much! They also integrate other skills in fun ways. They enjoy listening to and reading books and poetry, sing, create art, older children research, and make observation reports. They even practice public speaking at their closing ceremony in a fun, non-intimidating way. The counselors are a wealth of natural information. They are very patient and kind with the children. I often hang around the farm or the nature center with my younger child and have observed all happy and caring interactions with the counselors. The ratio is very good. There is a lead counselor and an assistant for every camp which max out at ten campers. The camps are half day which is a nice length to contrast to the long school day length especially for the younger campers. I plan to send my kids for years to come!
This is a great educational museum. And a wonderful selection of trails through the area. The farm portion is great for young children to learn about farm life. And all around a good place to get outdoors and experience the beauty of nature.
Aullwood has a beautiful facility in its farm center which can be rented for weddings, other special family events and large meetings. The center has a great kitchen with a warming oven, huge refrigerator, and plenty of tables and chairs. Of course, the center and farm are wonderful for hiking and visiting the farm animals and bird watching as well.
We loved hiking, learning, and exploring at Aullwood for years while we lived in the area! The annual festival is wonderful, as is the educational resources available.
It was fun and educational . 11 year old kids loved inside and outside. We hunted fairy houses at Aullwood and saw animals at the farm.Great experience!

I honestly wish that I could live in the library/sitting room in the nature center with the big windows looking out at the bird feeders.

Neatly manicured nature center and garden. My only bad vibe was the preachy signage! Probably reflective of the current Administrator.
