Dave is such a professional and delivers! He gave his word and kept it. I was able to get all things needed to begin my freshwater tank cycling, thanks to Dave of course. Im sure if theres anything I need to know about maintaining my tank, I can ask him or any of the members at Nova. I look forward to being a loyal customer

My wife and I used to keep many freshwater tanks in the 80s, but took a 30+ year break from the hobby. When we decided to jump back in after so long, we realized that much of the technology has changed. Dave at Nova Tropicals (and all his staff) have taken the time to explain everything, and answered all our 10 million questions. The store is clean and well maintained, and every time we come through the door somebody greets us with a smile and a cheerful Howdy folks! I included a pic of the 120 gallon tank we bought at Nova, and our youngest sons 7 gallon. Of all the equipment we bought, only a single heater had an issue, and Dave instantly replaced it, no questions asked. He seems to be a man who really believes in taking care of his customers - a rarity in todays big-name store environment. We definitely appreciate that, and highly recommend this local fish store!

The staff is amazing, very knowledgeable and helpful. I absolutely love going here. Fish are healthy and they have a good selection. Tanks are kept very clean. They also go above and beyond to help when possible. We had a kitchen fire in October and they housed my fish for me for just over a month.I have been shopping there many times and have learned so much from. Freshwater to saltwater tanks from the staff here. They will never sell you something without knowing if they are a good fit for your tank or not. Which I truly appreciate the honesty and care for the fish they sell. I highly recommend going here for your aquatic needs.

Dave and his team are first class! They’re not pushy and want to make sure you have the right info and don’t just try to sell you anything. Tanks are always clean as well as the store.

The team at Nova Tropicals is top notch. I looked all over the area for what I needed, and then I called Nova. They had everything I needed, very friendly, fast and professional. Will be using them in the future, can’t recommend them highly enough.

Sold me a sick discus and it has infected my entire tank..... i told them the fish did not look good yet they assured me they were good and I put them in my tank and BOOM losing my entire stock of fish... over 300 dollars worth of fish dying off 1 by 1 and they gave me store credit for 120 bucks for the 2 sick fish they sold me with a contagious disease. If you buy a lemon from a dealership and it broke down as soon as you left would you buy another car there? probably not.

My love and I visited Nova Tropicals and she picked a huge scoly. Ive been meaning to post a review since then but I kept getting distracted by work. The scoly has been doing wonderfully though. In the months since we got it it has grown even bigger and it eats like a pig. Dave is a fantastic store owner, very friendly and knowledgeable. The store is very neat and clean and the tanks are immaculate. They have a great selection of live stock. Other local stores could learn something about husbandry from Nova Tropicals.

This place have a lot of corals. saltwater fish and fresh water fish. And good price The owner he very nice.

Great store knowledgeable staff, very good prices and excellent selection. The owner Dave is personable, fair and honest. Great coral selection, excellent fish (both freshwater and saltwater) and well stocked supples. My go to LFS.

Deciding to start our journey into saltwater aquariums with Nova Tropicals was the best decision weve made. Everyone at the store is incredibly knowledgeable, and were all happy to walk us through each step of the process. We were having a bit of difficulty setting everything up correctly, so Dave (the store owner) came to our house and got our tank up and running. We are truly grateful for how helpful everyone has been, and for how easy theyve made this whole process. I highly recommend this company.

What an incredible store. They have a huge selection of fresh and salt water fish. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They have everything you need to set up a new tank or maintain your existing one. I have not been let down yet. This is my go to fish store. We come about 30 minutes to get here. So much better than the big box stores with staff who really care about their fish and their customers. They will treat you right.

This is the best freshwater fish and plant resource in NoVa! I dont know anything about saltwater but that area seemed amazing as well. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff. Sophisticated quarantine methods. They only sell healthy fish.

This place is awesome! Had been going to Petco but fish had ick and tried to kill my tank so no more. They are cheaper and more knowledgeable. Beautiful showroom and amazing frags.

I have nothing but great things to say say about Dave and his awesome team at NOVA Tropicals. I went into his store knowing a lot of general knowledge about Salt Water Aquarium systems, but at a standstill because I did not know what I needed for a personal system in my home. Dave spent so much time with me that day explaining what I needed like tank size, type of tank, filtration, lights, substrates, base rocks, and even discussed minor things like type of chemicals and tools. When having issues with my tank’s plumbing, Dave was willing to watch all my videos and helped me figure out what the problem was. I now have a beautiful, functioning tank thanks to Dave. If you want a group of people that are very knowledgeable about anything fish related, NOVA Tropicals is a must go!

Best fish store Ive ever been too. Very clean, great staff, wonderful selection too. They were busy as well with customers. I live in Arlington, but will make the drive back next time I need fish.

Initially visited just to browse for options for my new starter tank, but I walked out with a female betta, two corydoras, and two amano shrimp. Everyone was so helpful and the store is simply incredible. I love that theres an actual fish store for hobbyists in the area now. Its been 3 weeks and the creatures are doing wonderful. The betta blossomed, the shrimp and Corys are funny characters, and Im constantly restraining myself from going back for new tank additions. Definitely recommend this place for fish lovers.

Nova Tropicals is amazing! we drove 2.5 hours to come here and I swear this is one of the nicest places in the state to come to. great selection of saltwater fish and corals! very nice and knowledgeable staff. prices are very reasonable! will be returning as soon as possible!

A great local fish store! I drive from Old Town Alexandria to go there because they are the best in NOVA in my opinion. Very knowledgeable staff, well stocked for both fresh and salt water and reasonable prices (especially for a not being a giant corporation). Healthy fish good assortment of hardscape, plants and corals.

Great aquarium store with fantastic staff! Owner helped me pick out and order a HOB protein skimmer today and with very competitive pricing! He was very knowledgeable in assuring me Reef Octopus is a great brand and even showed me some of the ones in the store tanks. He made small talk to get to know hubby and I and it made us feel even more welcome. I had mentioned I was acclimating my tank to new lighting and even tho was eyeing some of the beautiful hammers and flower pot coral, was recommended to wait for the skimmer and finish light acclimation. This really stuck out as someone who cares for customers and saltwater tanks instead of just making quick dollar. Will absolutely be returning!

My wife and I are so happy to have found Nova Tropicals! The owners are so kind and patient. The place is immaculate and the fish, plants, and coral are well cared for. Well be back!

This store is AWESOME!! They have BY FAR the best quality fish products, My favorite part of this store is the options they have for aquascaping and plants. I haven’t shopped at any other store since this store opened! The owner, Dave, is extremely helpful, always ready to answer any questions I might have. The store itself is beautiful with a wide range of fish and plants to pick from! 10/10, definitely recommended going there!

Nova Tropivals is a great fish store! Dave is very knowledgeable as well as very willing to help people who are just getting there first aquarium. He also very patient with any questions that you might have. Its a very clean setup and makes the prospect of fish keeping fun. He is willing to go above and beyond to help you with getting exactly what you want for the hobby! It is one of the nicest fish stores that Ive been to.

This aquarium store is amazing! I have finally found a fish store where I can always expect a variety of fish and supplies and not to mention great advice on fish keeping. The owner (Dave) takes great pride in his business and it shows through his interactions with all his customers and the exceptional layout he has for all his products. They have fish stocked there that I wouldn’t normally see in other stores which is a huge plus!! I would definitely recommend this place to all my saltwater and freshwater hobbyists. You are definitely in for a treat at this place!! Can’t wait to go back!!

I love this place!! The staff and owner are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They have an excellent selection of fish, aquatic plants, tank decor, maintenance supplies, and tanks.

Drove from about an hour away based on the advice from a coworker and the positive online reviews. It was well worth the drive. Dave, the owner, helped us out and offered a lot of friendly advice about the next steps for our 1st saltwater tank. Believe it or not, he even steered us away from some beautiful and expensive animals because our tank wasn’t ready for them... but assured us that we would be happy with some other incredible picks that were more suited to the stage our tank was in. This is the kind of place that wants you as a customer for life, and they’re not going to just sell you something expensive because they can.Their selection is really amazing and they have a lot of fun stuff. Everything made it home ok and despite the long drive we will be back when it’s time to add some additional things to our tank. Thanks Dave!

This store is brand new. Just over 5 months. Everything is new and clean. They have a huge selection of fresh water, salt water and salt reefs. I was blown away by everything. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.

Very clean stores, good and healthy fish. Finally, Virginia has it good Fish stores. I have it more than 10 fishEs from this stores. All are healthy fishes, owner are very friendly and helpful. They can ordered the fish if it’s not available in a stores.Awesome coral stocks neat and clean. I like this stores a lot. Reasonable price in coral and fish.

Excellent store! I have shopped around most of the area saltwater stores in the area and I have to say hands down this store takes all 5 starts and more if possible. Dave is not only very knowledgeable but very passionate about the hobby and super helpful. You can tell when some one just wants your business and when someone like Dave wants to make a friend and hobbyist out of you! Before you go to any other place check out this great new place! You will not be disappointed!!!

Clean, organized, and friendly staff. Healthy looking specimens- fresh and salt water, and nice inventory of food, hard goods, and aquariums.

I had an amazing experience with Nova Tropicals. Had been calling all around the area to find someone with the perfect 120 gallon tank for my needs. Not only did Dave have a great selection, he was friendly and knowledgeable. Best of all, he agreed to deliver the tank and stand to my house and help move it down a flight of stairs! Other shops I talked to wouldnt deliver, or charged a hefty fee to do so. Love the new tank, very grateful to Nova Tropicals for making this process so much smoother.

I went in just to try my local store. I had to wait around a bit because the staff was so busy (not a big deal). Once i got chatting with an employee about my newest tank set up, they were able to source my problem.Ive also had intrest in doing a planted tank and the employees steered me in the right direction to getting started. This store (unlike some big names) stocks rocks, wood, plants (grown in water), and plenty of aquarium equipment.MY NEW GO TO AQUARIUM STORE!

I had a fantastic experience with Nova Tropicals. The staffing is super friendly, i wouldnt change this store for any other in the area. I rather drive to the store even is a little far for me but its worth the drive. Dave is knowledgeable, went above and beyond. He is still helping my husband and me with our saltwater tank.

Ever since I moved to the area, Ive been searching for a truly great local fish store, and Im SO glad I found NOVA Tropicals. I drove past at least three other fish stores that I know of to get there, and it is absolutely worth the extra few minutes down the road. This place really is just a cut above other stores in the area. They have a great inventory of both fresh and saltwater stock, and all the fish I saw looked vibrant and healthy. They have a lot of live plants, including some harder to find varieties, that for the most part looked pretty healthy too.Every member of the staff that I interacted with was friendly and knowledgeable. If they dont have exactly what youre looking for, they have a wish list that you can add your info to, and theyll let you know when they do have it.I left my first visit with just a few Corys and Mystery Snails for one of my tanks, but I will absolutely be back soon.

Great store! Dave is very friendly and personal. He has everything you need to get started and will order anything you could possibly want. This is my one and only stop for my fishs needs and for my live plants!

Very clean store with a nice layout. Large freshwater section and a good selection of decent equipment for fresh and saltwater. Would have liked to see more saltwater livestock. Hope to see it grow. Owner (Im guessing) was very friendly and attentive.

What a fantastic store. I’ve wanted to get a saltwater tank going for a number of years now but honestly was a little intimidated by the process. Dave asked me what my goals were, then walked me through everything I’d need, how to get it all hooked up and what the actual process was to get the tank started. He talked me through what equipment was essential vs what was just nice to have, what to get now, and what could be upgraded later if desired. Dave treated me more like he was helping out a neighbor and not just a random customer. His help proved invaluable and I’m lucky to have a LFS like this in my area. I look forward to working with Dave and Nova Tropicals on the further development of my tank.

Beautiful store with such a variety. Staff is amazingly knowledgeable and friendly, and went way above and beyond to help us get our tank all set up!! We just recently moved to the area and are so glad we found our favorite local fish store! Won’t ever go anywhere else again!

This place is amazing, Dave help me to settle my 220 gallon aquarium, which was mess by other company. Verity of clean and healthy saltwater, freshwater fish and corals. Store is very clean and neat. Very awesome and amazing service and good price on fish and corals. I love that Dave will go out of their way to make sure youre purchasing whats right for your tank without pressuring you to get what you dont need.If I could give 10 stars I would! I’m going to pass the word about this place, it’s AMAZING

Great assortment of freshwater and saltwater livestock, with an excellent assortment of dry goods. Best LFS in the area!!

Wow, this place is a dream come true!! The store is immaculate and the owner Dave is the most personable, friendly and helpful store owner I’ve met. A true gem to find someone who values the customer the way he does. The store itself is a gem too!! Finally we have a real local fish store in the area! The fish selection is awesome and the store has all the supplies you would need. Dave is so helpful too- he gave us a tour and what he’s planning to add- can’t wait! Such a modern, clean, beautiful store with a wonderful owner. Unfortunately will be feeding my new addiction :p Definitely check it out!

I really like NOVA Tropicals. I would even say Im grateful they opened. The N. Virginia / Washington DC area really lacked for good aquarium stores in my opinion. ( I remember when Wallys Aquarium was around in Annandale.) This NOVA Tropicals is clean and well kept with good live stock. Note well that their freshwater tanks are all individually filtered, they are not hooked up to a single sump. This is a big, big difference in quality compared to other stores in the area because it prevents the spread of disease even if it means more work for the employees. They also quarantine their fish and stop sales if any problems are noted in a tank. Folks, this is the gold standard. This is what you want if you are buying fish. They also have nice options for aquascapers to include good hardscape. Ive been there several times so far and dealt with four different employees, all of whom were cordial as well as knowledgable. They also special ordered some hard-to-find filter media for me, which I appreciated. This place is a breath of fresh air; finally a great aquarium stores for N. Virginia.

Great staff, very knowledgeable and very customer friendly. Clean store good stock in to the fish prior to selling and if they dont have it in stock they will order it. They assisted in all if my questions and concerns. Will be returning here for future purchases

The people who work here are fantastic! They are knowledgable and patiently taught me how to best set up my new aquarium. They even did free water quality testing! Prices are super reasonable and the fish in stock are beautiful and healthy. I will never go to big pet stores for fish or fish supplies again.

Doug was extremely helpful and has no problem trying to help you save money by suggesting other items. Even told me some tips and tricks about my own aquarium. Will definitely be coming back here!

Very friendly staff and very knowledgeable. The store own help me out alot with ordering setting up . Very clean facility. Definitely recommend for anyone who enjoy the hobby to check this place out .

Top notch service with an excellent selection of salt and fresh water live stock. Nova Tropicals will be my go to LFS going forward!

Great new shop in the VA DC MD area. The store owner is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. It is one of the first shops I go to when I come to VA. The shop is brand new and awesome! Looking forward to the large saltwater display tank being filled and stocked.

Amazing Local Fish Store, Owner and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. They take custom orders and will try and track down the fish you desire. Very Clean! Have seen them maintaining the cleanliness of the store several times I visited.

I highly recommend Nova Tropicals for your aquariuim needs. Awesome shop and customer service!!! Thanks Dave for taking care of me and the great service.Preston

Dave and his team are simply awesome! We decided to get a beta from a big name pet store but they didnt give any guidance or care instructions. After dealing with an algae problem and worried about the health of our fishy my 3.5 year old daughter and I ventured into Nova Tropicals...now let me say not only are Dave, Joe, and Maggie incredibly knowledgable but they tolerated my very busy and active child running around the store. Joe even let her watch the clown fish being fed. They tested our water and advised us on how to keep our beta happy and healthy. We now have 3 tanks 2 with betas and one empty one that needed to sit for a bit till it was ready for our blue crawfish to be added. Even if you arent in the market for a fish tank its a beautiful store to visit with both fresh and saltwater setups. Just strolling thru the store is soothing and seeing the gorgeous tanks is calming in this crazy pandemic world. My husband and I decided that for our anniversary this year we are going to have Dave and crew help us set up a freshwater tank. We are so excited. So bottomline...avoid the petsmartco for your fish needs...head on over to Nova Tropicals and let them help you.

The selection is plentiful, more types of fish than the usual store. Excellent staff knowledgeable and helpful. We purchased a whole 75 Gal setup. Pump stand, the works. This is my go-to fish store

Ive been coming to Daves fish store for about 6 months now and Ill give my thoughts about all of my experiences. He has dedicated employees that are extremely knowledgeable, many of them flocking to his store from other retailers because of his level of care for his fish as well as professional installation and implementation of his custom-made fish racks.Dave does professional installation and general service jobs in conjunction with running his store like a tight ship. The only issues Ive seen people have were resolved professionally and compassionately, sometimes even over the phone. He has come to peoples houses to set up tanks so often Ive lost count. Im at the store all the time and because of that Ive made great friends with the employees.Id like to talk about the fish there. Nova Tropicals is still in its soft opening phase, and has the best prices on just about everything in the store, and the best stock as well. If you need something custom ordered? Theyve got your back.Want fish supplies? Its cheaper for me to drive the 40 minutes there to the store than it is for me to buy from Amazon, and that is quite the accomplishment. The plants there I cant find cheaper looking anywhere online. The scaping products are top quality. Filters, media, tanks, driftwood, substrate, aquarium rocks, all in great shape and quality, and cheaper than anyone else around. To be honest, I think Ive out-purchased their supplies sometimes when it comes to driftwood. At times theyre half the price of the competition, and manage to be better quality! To sum all things up, I cant recommend this store enough. Its become a super significant part of my life.....and kinda a danger to my wallet lol.

Fantastic new storefront for Prince William county. Beautiful fish, corals, and more. Doesnt look like someones basement for once. Dave is very personable and passionate for the hobby and clearly wants to earn your trust and business. Will be back regularly.

Dave the store owner as well as all the employees are awsome and extremely friendly and helpful each time me and my wife come in. Very knowledgeable about there livestock/ products, definitely the place to go for fresh and salt water aquarist, great prices and healthy livestock.

I have been waiting for YEARS for a first class aquatics shop to open up in the Woodbridge area..... The staff is very personable, professional and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested getting started or for anyone thinking of adding new members to their existing tank.

A great LFS with nice selection of salt and fresh water fish. Great prices on a lot of products and a lot of hard goods available. Owner is very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful.

Talk about quality service. Dave went above and beyond to help me get a waterbox aquarium. He took care of all the process from purchase and delivery.

Amazing shop and customer service! Dave took care of me and let me know my best options for my tank size and the community of fish I have. I highly recommend Nova Tropicals and will be shopping there for all my aquarium needs! -Evan

Literally the best aquarium shopping experience ever. Going into some stores can be overwhelming to new hobbiest. Dave and the employees answered questions. If you are looking for the best most personal service come to Nova Tropicals.

Dave and his crew are super friendly and a wealth of knowledge, so glad to have them in the neighborhood. The fish and invertebrates are healthy and well maintained, the selection is good and gets better everytime I stop in.

Attention aquascapers and marine hobbiests! Just returned from a trip to see the store and assess it may well be the very best in VA, certainly in NOVA. Well organized tanks, pristine, healthy, and well kept, utterly spotless. Well stocked with both freshwater and saltwater favorites and all reasonably priced. Hardscape (seiryu, petrified wd, lava, drgn stone...), substrate, manzanitas wood, eheim, fluval, ferts, and on! Plus an array of healthy plants! Again reasonably priced. The layout and variation of soft corral is robust and spectacular. Both saltwater and freshwater have not one or two fish favs but tanks full of thriving options. My new go-to store- well worth a 40min drive. For new hobbiests, the planted tank is not hard- learning as you go is half the fun, Google it!

Has alot of diverse freshwater and saltwater. All look healthy. Very nice rare corals and common coral. Pricing is good as well. Dave is very helpful and knowledgable. 10/10 recommend

Great selection freshwater, saltwater and plants

Great Store Friendly people very reasonable prices recommend them to my friends with my eyes closed the owner has an OCD with keeping his tank clean

This is a great shop. I’ve been keeping fish for 15 years, and have been to a lot of shops in the dmv and beyond in that time. I’ve never seen anything set up like this. Every tank is it’s own system. It’s super clean and the variety of fish and prices is awesome.

Finally a high quality, well organized, and clean aquarium store in the DC/VA/MD area. Friendly staff and onsite owner who you can tell takes pride in his well designed and stocked store.

First visit today and man this store is my new spot. Nova area needed this bad, it’s a one stop shop for any freshwater aquarist. Purchased a beautiful Freshwater Morii Eel today for an awesome price !! Tanks, Fish, Substrates you name it they stick it. Very pleased with my first visit and look forward to many more. Lastly if they don’t have it, they will pull up what you want online and source it in at no extra charge !!! Can’t beat it !

Great place to find what you need and ask any questions you want answers to.

Finally Woodbridge has a good LFS. I went there for the first time today. The layout of the store is nice. The best LFS I have been to in NOVA, not just Woodbridge . Quality goods and fish are in supply and if NT does not have it, NT will order for you.

Nice store, lots of product, great for hobbyists and beginners

What a gem !! This store is what I dream about! Will be a life long patron! Wish I found this store sooner! The owner is very friendly!!
