Talk about a step back into time. Such simple living that gives a good perspective of how people lived less than a hundred years ago. Definitely worth the stop ether going to Cumberland Mtn State Park or coming from the tower museum. Such a cute little house, gives the feeling or warmth and an experience you can only get by visiting such a place.
Great time, good workout walking up to top of water tower.
Tower and house are nicely preserved. Lots of great stories.
A great place to see how others lived here
I have been visiting Crossville for 30 years and just visited the Homestead Museum for the first time; shame on me. I taught middle school students about the Homestead Act for many years, but the history books generalize too much. I gained a new perspective and highly recommend a visit to this museum.
Great tour and history
Hubby and I enjoyed a trip through this wonderful home on one of our many visits to Crossville, Tn. Very few of these original homesteads are as they were when first built. Some are in bad shape, have not been taken care of, some have been overly remodeled to the point of no longer looking like the original building. This beautiful homestead cost very little to view, the furniture is some of the original owners, and you get a little taste of what life was like in the 30s. A surprise to see is the cistern in the attic that catches rain water for the house toilet and sinks. A great visit if you are going through Crossville.
