This nice little park right on the Connecticut River. I hike and mountain bike here. There are several trails to explore which are great for families. The mountain biking is some good flowy single track. For both hiking and mountain biking my favorite trail is the yellow blazed ravine trail that brings you down to the river. There is a camping spot by the river, but I think its for canoeing.
Great for mountain biking. Trails have good variety and not typically crowded. Some views of CT river at certain points.
Nice park for trekkers. There is a small river/pond, good for taking some nice photos.
Great park, right in your back door. Fantastic for a short escape amongst the trees.
Great local park. My kids love to mountain bike here.
Nice local park. Plenty of loops to keep you busy for a while
Fantastic trail. Im recovering from surgery this past fall and these trails were perfect for a come back.
The mtb trails are sick and go on for days. My Fiancee and I love it. A lot to do for everyone
Great place to mountain bike and hike.
The parking lot is easy to miss so be sure to keep n eye out. First time we went we drove by three times. Other then that it is a underrated area with great views of the river. There are a few people that bike here. Not all the bridges are great for it an experienced biker I think would have some trouble. Great for walking.
The trails are very well maintained. Beautiful views of the Connecticut River!
Not too crowded, nice views, decent trails, great for biked
Super buggy but otherwise a great place to hike
Nice and but a small Trail
Great place to mountain bike and hike family style.
Beautify ples.
Really neat camping site right off of the ct river. No need to bring camp wood, theres plenty of drift wood.
Great hike
A rare mountain biking venue with over 10 miles of trails, mostly without difficult technical areas. This park has a sand base (it is bounded on the East by the Connecticut River), and dries very quickly. Lots of carefully constructed, flowy single track.
Nice quiet spot for mountain biking. Trails are not very well marked so make sure you have a trail map but even if you dont the area is relatively small and nearly impossible to to get lost. Avoid the trail on private property (it is marked) as it was very overgrown and extremely muddy.
This is a great, easy hike. It’s a short loop and mostly flat. The view of the river is beautiful! I wouldn’t recommend visiting during mosquito season. The walk I took in the Fall was great, but it was unbearably buggy in July.
NEMBA has built 6 miles of flowing mountain bike trails
This is a small, unknown jewel of the Connecticut state park system. The trails are relatively easy, and you end up with a great scenic overview of the river, with nesting eagles nearby. Highly recommended.
Wear bug repellent.I keep waiting for the day that I will hear the sound of the blow hole or devils hole or whatever its called. It hasnt happened. However, I still love the park. It has well maintained trails for walking for mountain biking. Theres a canoe campsite. The terrain is very unique. Theres a nice view, complete with a bench. Its a nice park whether you call it the Blow Hole or River Highlands State Park.UPDATE 2017! I have heard the blowhole and it is indeed eerie.
Well marked trails if you read the map at the parking area, and follow the colored markings. Best time to go is in the fall or early spring. The summer was way to buggy.
Great place to take a walk
Prob one of my favorite places to hike. Id give it 5 stars if it wasnt for the mosquitos. Unbelievable amounts of mosquitoes here than anywhere else Ive hiked. Very annoying. Dont come here without long sleeves/pants and mosquito spray.
Great location to walk your dog or do some mountain biking. Many of the trails run parallel to the river offering quite a few beautiful views. It can get buggy in the summer though.
There bike trails are continuing to improve, super fun stuff.
Many trails, but some are not marked very well leaving you wondering if you are on a proper trail, a game trail or a water runoff trail. Positive side is that if you get lost, just keep walking a bit and you will run into civilization. Plus Google maps works to aide you finding your car.
I love to be outside on the trail. Trails at River Highlands SP are well marked and there is plenty of space to stretch my legs. Come here to get outdoors.
Very good place
The trails are nice, but no mention of how far is the river and how long are the trails. Not sure if many people visit here, but the driving was worth it. Pls keep some insect repellent (many mosquitoes) when going in the trail.
Lots of trails fun to ride
Close to home... No Mooween or Rockland or Millers or Robinson or NathanHale or Nassahegon or Crandalls or Cowels or Meshomasic or ... yetFlowy with some interesting and challenging stuff to keep you awake and engaged...Bobsled Run for Mountain Bikes is Fun...Rollercoaster section is entertaining and another Highlight of River Highlands...Mosquitoes will keep the slow riders from returning, and the faster riders from stopping and getting chatty...More Skinnies Sought...
Nice, unattended, great views from (short) trailer...
Great local hiking spot with river vistas.
Great hiking trails with an incredible view of the river
Quiet, well marked trail.
Its okay.
Awes
Lovely hike but the mosquitoes are insane.
