The Dodge House is a beautiful piece of local history. Council Bluffs would not be what it is today if it werent for the friendship between General Dodge and President Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln decreed Council Bluffs to be the Eastern terminus of the Union Pacific Railroad. General Dodge is one of our most prominent citizens. The Dodge House is decorated to match what it looked like in the 1870s. Going inside is going back in time. Stunningly beautiful place.

A very fun place to visit. Lots of great history, it’s always fun to see old houses and how people lived a century ago. Most of the furniture and decor in the house is original to the owner. You get to watch a short video history of the place and general dodge himself. The staff is friendly and helpful and very informative. Good time!

This place was more interesting and extravagant than I had guessed! General Dodge had a very interesting and productive life with the military spanning Indian wars to Civil War and then helping with the transcontinental railroad. General Dodge is one of the two men shaking hands in the famous picture with the two trains meeting on the at the golden spike place. I would recommend this place to anybody. You may take a guided or self-guided tour. The house is just as interesting as the man. I learned a lot!

Cant wait to get back & see it with holiday decorations. Many period pieces but also many pieces that were owned by the Dodge family. This would be an interesting home tour even without all the historical significance. Lots of stairs but also lots to see on the main level if you cant do stairs. The kitchen was fascinating - & that was just one room of 15! (Maybe 16?)

One of the best places from history that has a. Story that helped shape. Our nation where an individual lived and raised his family as he helped in shaping. What we are today as a nation, a general in the the civil war and after that campaign was top notch in what our railroad is today,. Must visit relics cool

You may think that if youve seen one Victorian mansion youve seen them all, but this one is truly magnificent. The curators here do an excellent job.Council Bluffs is an interesting city. The western part, that closest to Omaha, lies in the ancient river floodplain--the land is flat, the streets are square, and the neighborhoods generally modest and uninspired. However, in the older, eastern part of the city, the land is suddenly hilly, the streets follow the terrain (i.e. they go every which way), and the old storefronts and Victorian architecture hearken back to the days when Council Bluffs was a thriving city and Omaha hadnt even been thought of yet. There are interesting neighborhoods near the Dodge House, and also further north near the Fairview cemetery. The cemetery itself is worth a look. Tourist information can be obtained at the Dodge House.
