A really good place for me to exercise. Dixon provides cardio room, basketball and badminton court, swimming pool, and heavy training area. I often go there.
Dixon is doing great in terms of covid precautions. Making sure guidelines are followed with causing conflicts.
Its pretty much the only option for students. I wish they didnt offer community memberships though, as a lot of those dont respect the school and therefore are a pain to exercise near.
Has gotten more and more packed every year I’ve been here (this is year 4). FAR over capacity. Even at 9-11pm (they close at 11pm) now every machine is taken. And that’s not even peak that you see 3:30-7pm or so. It’s really hard to me to get up at 6am too :/When I’ve done that it’s workable though. Doesn’t seem like foresight that stewards student funds well.
This place is great, Been coming here off and on for 25 years. My kids love the pools and the climbing wall.
Nice facility for swimming, sports, b-ball, indoor track. Weights and Cardio equipment need serious rethinking. All of the elliptical machines are half the stride needed; weights are super restricted in access due to volume of users. I’m sure OSU has the financial and intellectual resources to make the equipment in the gym a better experience for access and quality of workout.
The pool was wonderful, staff was helpful, my only regret was not going more often. One employee was a bit rude but since another one went out of there way to help me out with a different situation I will give it a pass.
Its a great gym, just way to small for the amount of students using the facility. If you dont go in the early mornings you will be waiting to use a lot of the equipment.
Excellent facilities and staff. Has been good about spacing equipment apart and screening people on entry. Pre-Covid during peak times this place is unusable however, could be larger.
This is a very extensive workout/recreation center. For $8, you can get a day pass for their swimming pool, rockcliming wall, basketball courts, squash and racquetball courts, running track weight room and dance studio. They also handle equipment rentals and bike repairs. This is a one-stop place for all of your physical activity needs!
Big basketball courts! And so many treadmills that you dont have to worry no place to exercise.
Great place to work out!
Great facility for students! Lots to do and its all quality stuff.
Top notch gym and the best in town. Been a regular here for the past 6 years and its been my favorite place to be. Overall atmosphere is incredible and staff are amazing people. When you wrap it with McAlexander Fieldhouse, the sports complex outside and the ALI Outdoor Adventure services the package is almost unbeatable. To be totally honest its closer to 4 stars because a few Important things could be better to really earn a 5. Showers need some more private stalls in the mens locker room. One ADA private stall doesnt cut it especially when a lot of the time the shower head is not functioning properly, and because so many people leave sweaty because they dont feel comfortable showering in the open. Crazy that this was not addressed during the recent locker refresh. Also would appreciate better notifications for closures and special hours, specifically to Instagram and Facebook pages and Google if possible. There are a few pieces of equipment that are not well stocked and in bad shape when I do find them, specifically foam pads for the squat bars.Would also recommend extending weekday summer hours from 8pm to 9PM due to high demand, and keeping the blinds open in the late evening when the sun is less intense because the sky and scenery is beautiful at that time.To wrap up, best gym Ive ever trained at. Exceptional value even for alumni membership at $40/month.
Love this place but it gets way too crowded which is really annoying. I would go in the mornings or after 9pm to avoid big crowds
Good for getting some sick gains. a bit small for the amount of people going though. I recommend going at around 9am to avoid crowds.
Its often pretty smelly. The ventilation is sub par. Ive also witnessed 2 of the personal trainers give bad and dangerous advice to clients. If youre in the market for training pick one of the younger student trainers.
Awesome facilities and refreshing cafe, kind staff
I really like the range of activities you can do here: swim, weights, cardio, etc. etc. They also have spin and yoga classes and rent out all kinds of sport equipment. The only problem Ive had is overcrowding after 5 PM, so try going during the day if you can.
Dixons usually great, but Pacific Power frequently has power outages that cause long unscheduled closures (Im talking at least 8 hours) at Dixon. So this 1-start rating really belongs to Pacific Power. But also to OSU for not forcing Pacific Power to provide more reliable power.
Clean facilities. Good equipment. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. The downside is the crowding during peak times. ALI and intramurals are great.Bike shop in back by Goss stadium very helpful from a student perspective.
Fantastic facilities and friendly staff
I can only make one complaint about dixon, but its a very strong one. Theres only one punching bag. For a whole campus. I waited 45 minutes and asked a guy several times to move on and he was nothing but rude, but I didnt have any other choice but to wait.
Dixon Recreation Center is one of the most important cornerstones of my OSU life. I stop by here pretty much every day at least once: for an early morning swimming or running, to do some weight-lifting or cardio, to play squash inside or baseball outside with friends. Endless possibilities, super friendly and helpful staff, well-kept and well-cleaned facility.Their only flaw is their size: it feels that Dixon was designed for a smaller university and not for OSU. It often becomes overcrowded, - even early in the morning, - which is rather annoying.
Great gym to go to. By far the most well-equipped gym in the area. Can be busy in the afternoon and at the start of new quarters.
Hours are too short for how many people utilize the facilities.
Nice staff, clean facilities. Wide variety of activities available. Weight lifting, cardio rooms, rowing machines, basketball court, racquetball, climbing, indoor track, outdoor volleyball, lap and diving pools, hot tub, multipurpose rooms. Day use lockers and towels can be rented free with student ID. Guest entry for $7.
Great for students and staff.
Speaking strictly of the weightlifting part of Dixon - its not bad. In short, the equipment is new and in good shape, but the gym is severely undersized, and lacking a good range of equipment.Youll find yourself pacing around looking for a bench, or a rack. I often end up doing standing exercises, because standing space is all thats left in the dumbbell area.Ive seen crowds hover for the chance at getting a power rack, or lines form for several machines, such as the one and only seated cable row, or one of two lat pulldown machines.Personally, no matter how nice the equipment is, if its too crowded to use any of it, it might as well not be there. Dropping a weight isnt as much of a safety concern as it is getting smacked in the face by the guy standing next to you. However, all that said, its still not a bad place to lift. They provide lifting and dip belts behind the counter. The plates are round, not hexagonal. The machines might not be lubricated often, but theyre in the very least in working order. If you find a bench in the dumbbell area, most of them are adjustable from a decline, to upright. All the plates and DBs are rubber coated, which I usually dont prefer, but in a gym like this, does substantially help keep the noise level tolerable. Its got great hours - especially for the average student, a large locker room thats always got open lockers (as well as rentable ones), classes, personal trainers and nutritionists available.I have little to no input on Dixons other amenities, other than that they also offer a pool, rock climbing area, several basketball and racquetball courts, a mens and womens sauna, cardio machine rooms, and multiple classes - all of which seem just as popular as weightlifting aforementioned. However, everything said, it could severely use an expansion.
Great gym, I miss the options
Great facility with lots of things to do. Theres lockers for your stuff, showers to wash after working out.
Has everything an avid amateur athlete could want from an athletic facility. And so much more not yet tried out.
Great facilities!
Its a great area, perfect equipments, just sometimes has many people playing at there
Excellent gym. Wide range of equipment. Great place to work out and de-stress.
Extremely nice, fully staffed and full of every piece of equipment you could need. Very busy during the school year.
I miss this place every day
I ate a donut.
A place for every workout you want to do. I enjoy the basketball court, running track on top, swimming pool, and weight lifting.
Good fud
Best gym I ve ever been to
Perfect for students
Very nice place to spend your time
Very clean and friendly staff. Equipment is fairly new.
Love it
Pretty Good
Only one punching bag and they have it in an area that is used for classes for 90% of the time
Great OSU recreation center
Always way too busy, needs more workout space.
Nice and beautiful staffs
Great gym facilities
The best ever
Not enough equipment for the number of users
Modern
Horrible hours. Closes at 4 on weekends??
Amazing facilities!
Weekend maintenance is complete garbage. Its staffed by maybe 3-4 people it seems and the weights are all out of order, etc.
Best gym
