A great smaller, more intimate theatre for shows in Columbus. We loved this theatre to see Whose Live Is It Anway and Puddles Pity Party.
This storied Columbus theatre has, according to a story told to me by my seat mate and that I haven’t verified, a delightfully salacious history to accompany the gold accents and rich velvet. And what a theatre—lovely acoustics, looks great.Only things I’d improve are the restrooms and the selection at the concession. If you have a chance to see Promusica Columbus, you must. It was one of the best chamber orchestras I’ve seen. And their series naked classics, one of the funniest and richest insights into a composer I’ve ever seen. 12/10 for that performance right there.
Beautiful, classic theater. Even in the balcony we had great seats. No problem seeing what was happening on stage. The acoustics were excellent. I was skeptical of updating The Barber of Seville but that was so funny and entertaining. Highly recommend!
Went to an Opera Columbus presentation of Rigoletto here, and it was terrific! The southern theater is a great venue. Great acoustics, very intimate, comfy seats. Parking was a bit of a headache (had to drive around for awhile in the garage across the street before we found a spot that wasnt reserved). Still, completely worth it.
15 E. Main StreetCome to a free ProMusica rehearsal....its free! Or, did I mention this is FREE.Come see the ProMusica professional orchestra rehearsal for their next concert. This is in the beautifully restored Southern Theater. We were privileged to hear the worldly renowned #EstherYoo violinist. She is simply amazing to observe her feel for the music! And, how she applies emotion to her violin.Esther has performed throughout the UK. As well as her Korean heritage. And, to Americas Lincoln Center. Plus her repertories include Wigmore Hall.please see this Southern Theater photography from January 10, 2020.Psalm 34- Keith
This historic theater is absolutely beautiful! Just breathtaking. If you love architecture and appreciate the workmanship its worth visiting. The manager was so knowledgable of its history and was willing to share. The staff was incredible! Parking very accessible. The opera Madame Butterfly was performed beautifully. A fantastic experience!
Love this place. Styled similarly to the Ohio Theater without as much decadence. Smaller, more intimate space. Best seats in the house acoustically are the nosebleeds!
Lots of history and interesting architecture. Views from the balcony were ok however seating is a lot less than desirable. Almost as cramped as the Nationwide area but a least it was cushioned... Convenient parking and location.
Really a beautiful old theatre. It is not as flashy as its two siblings the Ohio Theatre and the Palace, but it has a distinctive charm. We saw Home for the Holidays, a wonderful show.
Beautiful theater, all seats are great. Only issue is upper floors arent handicap accessible.
Great theater. Every seat has a great view. Speaking of seats they are pretty comfortable. The sound is also top-notch. They get some great shows coming here. To a whole class of kindergarteners here for a field trip. They were very helpful and accommodating. Would go back again.
Its a beautiful theater with really great acoustics. Its also not as deep as some theaters in Columbus so youre easily able to see the stage from anywhere
My fiancé and I went for a ProMusica concerto and I have a service dog. We had never been to this venue before so I called beforehand to notify them of my service dog. Then, when we arrived, every staff member knew who we were and helped us to our seats. Unfortunately, the seats we had chosen could not accommodate my service dog and without a fuss, staff moved us to accessible seating.I can’t thank the staff enough for being so kind and understanding! Truly made my night and we wouldn’t have been able to stay had they not moved us.Thank you times a million—such great staff!
Such a well preserved space with great acoustic. A true jewel in Columbus.
What a gorgeous old theatre! Very quant and personable experience!
Stunning modernized late 1800s theater. Great performance by the Columbus Jazz Orchestra.
Great, quaint, historical theater. Not a bad seat in it. Friendly staff. Twice Ive felt the bar closed far, far too early though. Couldnt purchase even a water with over an hour left in the show. Bizarre really. Line for the drinking fountain which was upstairs tucked away around a corner by the mens restroom.
Chairs were comfy and acoustics were great, but the balcony became too hot for comfort during the performance.
Decor is exquisite. Handels Messiah was excellent. Will go back for more Symphony and Chorus events. Stop at Dempseys before and/or after.
Historic charm and beauty. Experience CAPA events and performances.
Absolutely stunning theatre. We cannot wait to go back!
Beautiful venue and Bria Skonberg was one of the best Columbus Jazz Orchestra guests ever!
Gorgeous theater! Even the second balcony has a good view, and is easy to see the individual performers on stage.
A wonderful and cozy place. The performance was great and we would love to go there again
First time visiting and have to say we were impressed!Reason for visit: Went to see a band called Apocalyptica (they were fantastic by the way).Positives:- Venue was beautiful!- Staff was friendly and helpful.- Drink selection was on par and reasonably priced.- Womens restrooms were clean and still had hot water to wash your hands during the intermission rush. There were only two draw backs:1) I probably will never visit by myself, if the show is at night, since the area isnt the best at that time.2) Where we sat, while super close, part of the stage was obstructed by an amplifier.-Note: this may only have been the case due to band choice on where they placed their amplifier.Overall; highly recommend for the experience!
Lovely venue, and a very courteous staff.
The theater was beautiful as always. The revision of Barber of Selville was, well, interesting.
Menopause the Musical...all the single ladies on stage. Very nice theater. Smaller than the State or Palace. Love the CAPA staff and volunteers. So courteous and professional.
The acoustics were amazing and the seats were wide and comfortable.
Love this intimate theatre!
Beautiful theatre. Comfortable seats, very good sound.
Here for my Nephews graduation from ACPA. The young people were having a great time during rehearsal. How do I know? My nephews Dad and I were that early The staff particularly a young man with blonde hair and glasses was VERY kind to us. The theater is beautiful. The seating is quite comfy and offers a great view of the stage. The ceremony was beautiful. The AC is great too! Congratulations Dakotah!!!!!!!!! ACPA CLASS OF 2018!
Beautiful theater but tight sitting..not at all comfortably at all! Knee hit the backs of the seat in front of you and definitely not good for fluffy people!
An amazing show and a cool theater
Beautiful venue with great seats anywhere in the house.
Beautiful and acoustically well designed venue for a large orchestra such as the Glenn Miller Band, consisting of 16 pieces. A truly fat sound. The combination of woodwinds and brass is truly unique and this Theatre is the perfect place to enjoy that type of music. Restrooms are large and well designed to handle the crowd during intermission. Seats are comfortable with a decent amount of leg room.
Good parking. Not too handicapped friendly, but if I ever get a chance to buy the box seats....its a beautiful old theater with an orchestra pit and 2 balconies.
Great venue with easy access parking. The inside is small but beautiful. The Columbus Symphony was excellent.
Great venue to see/hear musicans do their thing. Comfortable and intimate...
Be prepared for less leg room than a cross country flight if sitting in the balcony! Other than that, this theater is absolutely gorgeous, the acoustics were great for our show (Whose Live Anyways), and the staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back but will try to spring for floor seats next time.
A beautiful old venue with the architectural trappings of an older theater. Cramped seating, narrow aisles, lots of steps and marginal acoustics.
Beautiful theater. I went here for the columbus jazz orchestra show. Sat up in the nosebleeds and could see and hear everything perfectly. The ushers were very friendly and polite.
So much history, and so much art! This is one of the best places to see liver theatre in Columbus. There is parking nearby, and restaurants to patronize before or after the show. TIP: This location sits on the corner of High Street and Main Street, and main street is a one way. There is metered parking on Main, and a surface lot and a parking garage as well.
Beautiful restored theater. Small enough to feel intimate. Rows are a little narrow so its easy for tall people to be uncomfortable.
Great venue for jazz concerts. Pat Metheny w/ James Francies & Marcus Gilmore was brilliant.
Lovely venue! Beautiful and just the right size for a theater.
My 1st time there, it was like going back to 1898. CAPA did a great job restoring the Great Southern Theater. I lov d reading about its past and who preformed there.
Amazing beautiful place Handel messiah rocked
This place was absolutely amazing. Very beautiful, fantastic accoustics, great act. Not a bad seat anywhere. Go if you can!
Went for Messiah sing along. Was fun, but several conductors never cued the singing audience. They just focused on the orchestra. The theatre and staff were positive. Restrooms were clean.
The best acoustics for musical performances in Columbus, seats are a little cramped but the cushions are comfortable. The theater is beautifully restored and the performers and programs that are part of their season are all first rate.
What a lovely, intimate venue! Theres not a bad seat in the house. The acoustics are great too. The staff are friendly and helpful, and make each patron feel like a VIP.
Boney James was more than good tonight. This man makes the sexiest melodies on that Saxophone.
This place is the best. Restored me art flawlessly.
Beautiful theatre very welcoming. Not a bad seat in the house!
Wonderful concert venue. Small and intimate. Not a bad seat in the house.
The southern theatre is nicely decorated. Easy to hear the actors. And comfortable.
Cool theatre with good acoustics with an intimate feeling size
Gorgeous historical theater within the Southern Westin. Was there to watch stand up comic Daniel Sloss
It is very well preserved for its age. It is gorgeous!
Beautiful concert hall/stage with very good acoustics and a nice classic design that you dont see very often today.
The staff was so helpful and nice. The theater it self is beautiful. The seats are comfortable. A great place to see a live performance. I saw Puddles the Clown. He is very funny and talented.
Great Theatre. You can see from every seat.
Very wonderful place to be.
The Columbus Jazz orchestra puts on an amazing show. They generally have great guest artists, but the orchestra is a very talented group without any additions.
Beautiful location. Average parking but fantastic facility
Wonderful place, its been completely restored. A truly wonderful place for a concert.
Beautiful venue.. great concert, couldnt be more pleased.
Really beautiful, historic space and pretty convenient location to some good bars and restaurants.
This place was beautiful and the concert was great
What a fabulous theater! Saw Columbus chamber Orchestra Pro-Musica there last weekend and was blown away. Lovely, intimate setting with lots of character and details, and the music was incredible.
Very nice acoustics, not a bad seat in the house.
Great space and very friendly staff.
Beautiful theater, comfortable seats, and drinks are great prices.
Magnificently restored just under 1000 seat theater complete with 2 balconies. The balcony seats are cramped, so I stick with main floor seats. All kinds of artistic performances are staged there year round. If you see something playing at the Southern Theater you want to see, dont hesitate, just be sure to get your main floor ticket.
Beautiful theater. Gracious ushers. No elevator which makes upper seating difficult for many people.
Amazing local theater!!
Great show. Beautiful theater. Bring a parka for the air conditioning and dont buy front row balcony seats unless youre 4 tall- zero leg room
Gorgeous building had a great time watching Tiffany Jenkins
Close seating. Beautiful atmosphere. Chill.
Its a wonderful venue with great acoustics
Awesome theater, very nice staff, highly recommend.
We saw a spectacular performance of Beethovens Ninth by ProMusica and the Lancaster Chorale!
Beautiful theatre and great bookings! Keep it up!
Great performance of Beethovens 9th by Promusica and the Lancaster Chorale.
Fantastic place to see a show!! Small and intimate and the sound is great! Love it!!
Great performance space.
Its a small, beautiful theater thats home to many of Columbus finest performs. Be sure to catch the Columbus Jazz Orchestra at least once
Great little theatre to see a play or show (less than 1000 seats?). My only complaint is that the acoustics in the balcony seating made it hard to understand what was being said on stage on more than a few occasions.
