Spanning the Salmon River in the state forest is the last remaining covered bridge in East Connecticut.Dating to 1840, it is one of only three crossings of its kind in the state and remains open to pedestrian traffic, although vehicles have been banned since the 1930s.A decade before then, a truck crashed through the floor, and the ensuing renovation was carried out as a Depression-era employment initiative by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The main bridge span is covered by a gabled roof, which has the benefit of protecting the timbers below from the weather, and slowing their ageing process.

It is a place full of history, and natural beauty.Nice historic covered bridge. Hiking. Very uncrowded. The Salmon river runs under the bridge, and is awesome to fish or wade.

Nice little place of History. Not many bridges like this still around, even fewer that that are actually still bridges and not moved relics that no longer span a pass. There is ample parking for all seasons with far more on the northern side, only a few spots on the south side. The fishing appears to be pretty good in the Salmon River it spans s can be seen by the ample amount of fisherman in the water.

One of our favorite stops when out for a drive. A beautifully restored covered bridge that seems to take you back in time. Also has a little trail down to the river that I intend on visiting this summer. A perfect spot to Wade and read.

Beautiful covered bridge. I visit every time I hike the Salmon River trail. Always see fishermen in the river on my hikes. The trail connects to Day Pond Park. Moderate hike takes 3 hours or so if you do entire loop. Port o pots at Day Pond area year round so no need to act like aa bear in the woods!!Many cool features on the trail. Eagle scout side trail leads to lovely waterfall. sample parking at both Comstock bridge area & Day Pond. Plowed & accessible in winter months.

Great hike through the woods right off the bridge, take a sharp left going towards the river if you are coming from the parking lot, its a little hidden. If you hike along it for around 2.7. miles you will end up in day pond state park. 4 stars for a nice walk!
