Amazing museum. Hans has a great collection with 200+ years of history. Not only is the museum packed with guns from the revolution/frontier days all the way to WWII, but Hans took the time to explain details about his favorite pieces. He has some one of a kind guns for sure. Be sure to check it out, you wont be disappointed. There are even a few relics and original guns for sale at very competitive prices. I will be back!
If you’re looking for something to do in downtown Cody and don’t need to kill more than an hour, I highly suggest Dug Up Gun Museum. Obviously as the name suggests, the guns and artifacts are dug up and beat to hell but that’s the beauty in it. The owner is a very knowledgeable and fun guy to talk to and has stories for every piece on display. The museum is free to enjoy but donations are encouraged.
This museum is a must see! Very well laid out and curated museum. Guns that have been found from a broad time period. The guns that still have some bullets in them from several wars really makes you think about the story behind them. In my mind those guns were not carried back with the warrior behind them.... for some reason. Would have posted pictures but they kindly ask that no photos are taken. Very unique and perfect for my kids in Cody!!!!
Lots of guns and more that are well displayed in different time periods and wars. Well worth the time to see. The owners were very knowledgeable and super friendly! Awesome display!
Amazing selection of historical battlefield and homeland artifacts. A very genuine atmosphere of history and the passion for it is seen by the owner and staff. Very good place, a good example of the true spirit of the firearms industry.
Donation based admission, plan on 45 minutes. Concise sign for each artifact. Friendly, informative, passionate staff. Note that it is located up a staircase. Open until 9PM. Great place to visit before or after the 6PM street shootout in front of the Irma Hotel.
Ok, this is a truly remarkable place. The owner told a story of a 10 year old, go to the museum to get the details. The story is how collectors get started.
Amazing!! If you have a love for guns and history, this is your place! Hans, the owner was very knowledgeable and had great stories to tell about some of the items on display!! Worth the stop!
The Cody Dug Up Gun Museum is a little gem of history. Not a huge venue but packed full of history. The owners happily engaged in conversation with all three of us and I hope to have an opportunity to stop in again before we leave.
Incredible display of early firearms!! Owners personal collection and his knowledge enhances the entire experience!! This is a MUST SEE if you go to CODY!!
Fantastic collection of historical artifacts. The operator was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, most unique firearms museum Ive ever been too. I also got a great deal on an arisaka bayonet. A must stop to see some one of a kind exhibits and pick up some well priced millitaria.
This place is pretty cool their guns and knives they had on display were sweet
A great place enjoyed the information on guns. Told some great storys about guns and very friendly.
Exhibit is very interesting and informative on our countrys history. A must see in Cody!!!! Would definitely do it again.
The spirit of Wild West, the spirit of real men who built this great country. Must see. Also great antique shop.
Excellent free museum, a must see when you stop in Cody, Wy. Nice and friendly owners, extremely unique exhibits.
Very cool place. Highly recommended checking it out.
The place was amazing! great folks that own it, Ewa and her husband Hans was very friendly and nice to talk to. Very interesting to see. Every piece includes a story which makes it better than the museum. Had a lot of fun looking at all the old guns and rifles. Its a Must See place if youre ever in Cody! Highly recommended! Though free, the owners operate solely on donations. Drop something in, so people can enjoy this awesome place! Dziękuję. Danke.
Very unique and more than worth the stop!
Very impressive knowledge and collection. No photos allowed.
Exactly what it says it is...items, mostly firearms, recovered from across the country and world and from different time periods. I thought there would be a more local focus since it is the Old West, right? But impressive nonetheless that the items are preserved and presented in a way to get you quickly through and learn a little bit along the way. Not accessible if you cannot climb some steep stairs, though, at least from what I could see.
I have not been there yet but we are planning a trip out there next year. I am really looking forward to see all the displays. Im sure it rates 5 stars.
Very cool place. Plan on spending a couple of hours!
Extremely knowledgeable and kind folks!
A must see if your passing through or staying in Cody!
This was on our touring list for Cody. We were surprised to find its by donation only. The displays are cleverly arranged as if you are seeing the weaponry as it was found. It makes you stop and look at the entire case before moving on to the next. Worth the visit and worth a nice donation.
Lot of history, lot of neat guns form around the world. Mainly was wild west and civil war but they had stuff up to Korea. Strictly runs off donations and the couple there where real friendly and me and the owner talked for about an hour real down to earth guy definitely would recommend going especially if you love guns!
Really cool place with old firearms. Definitely worth a stop for husbands while their wives shop.
Very large and nice collection of guns used in action. They are frozen in time with as much history they could find on them. This is the biggest collection of “one-off” extremely rare guns I have seen. Some of the owners met a violent end with here and how they were left. It brings it close to home when you realize these were left primarily because the people carrying them were in battle. It is worth seeing and the owner and his wife run solely on donations. They are great people to talk to and they love this country and its history!
What a collection. Just wow!
This place was educational and a great collection. You can go at your own pace and could spend 30 minutes to a couple hours here depending on how much you love history...and if you have kids with you. All of our kids found parts interesting and learned something. Also they are DONATIONS only!!
Tons of history! Boys loved seeing it all. Amazing collection! Owner was friendly and genuinely helpful. Thank you for the fun visit.
If you love old guns and pieces of old guns then this is the place for you. It is a one room display that is up a flight of stairs (which I wish I had know about as stairs are difficult for some older persons). No public bathrooms, food, drink - it is just a room filled with guns in display cases that have been found dug up or donated. It is a free museum but you can donate (which we definitely felt it was worth doing). It was enjoyable to look at the collection. I would allow an hour or less for the visit, but a person who loves guns could definitely be here a while.
Im a gun but, and this place is the bees knees!
This is an excellent and quick little distraction while you are in Cody. The bonus is it’s also free. They accept donations. I put $10 in the donation box. It was worth it. So many interesting firearms through the ages and very well presented. Do yourself a favour and check this out. You have nothing to lose.
This place is definitely worth the stop!! Just right down the road from the buffalo bill museum! I decided to check this place out since it was free, and my husband and I were not dissatisfied! We donated on our way out the door as they run off donations!! Great place for history. I loved how it said how it was found and where!! So cool
Hans was very polite and knowledgeable about the relics he had on display. Being a relic hunter myself I really enjoyed this, quite a few guns from different eras, with a good mixture of swords and bayonets as well. I would definitely recommend this place for any person wishing to learn actual dig up history and not reproduction items like you find in many museums.
This place is a gem! Very interesting to see. Every piece includes a story which makes it better than the museum. We bought several very cool souvenirs. Im very glad we stopped in and you should definitely make the trip.
It was really nice to go in with my grandkids and see and talk about history. Great place to go and very interesting to see all the historical stuff

Super interesting collection of guns, swords and other memorabilia. The proprietor knows the history and details of most pieces and its super interesting. Some of the pieces are things I have never seen anywhere. No pics allowed inside. Easy to find right downtown. Well worth a visit.

We had a great experience here. The collections were great and diverse with guns from different eras and different types. Each one had the type, history and where they were found.
