A truly wonderful venue. Beautifully restored.
The Maltz Performing Arts Center is an exquisite place to see a performance and a wonderful beacon of the areas vibrant Jewish Community. I just saw my first show here. I was very impressed when I first went, especially by how there was a very attentive and helpful bathroom attendant. But I say that with a bit of caution, when I got back to my seat and told my wife about my experience in the commode she told me that those are not things that are done by bathroom attendants and more importantly over half of those things are explicitly forbidden in The Torah. Either way though, the Maltz Performing Arts Center was an amazing place to watch a show.
The Maltz Performing Arts Centers is a former synagogue that was designed by Charles Greco and constructed in 1924. Subsequently, it has been renovated around 2010 and converted into mostly a lecture and event space, for Case Western. This impressive building with an important religious legacy is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is a true hidden wonder in Cleveland. Several months ago, I attended a lecture by the NYU professor Jonathan Haidt there and really enjoyed the entire experience.
A converted synagogue is now a place for people to gather and share creative experiences. Ive been there a number of times since it opened. The building itself is a work of art and history. It is spotless, and built of quality materials. The audience sits in a semi-circle in front of the performances. Ive attended concerts and talks and found the acoustics are very good. As many in the audiences Ive attended were over 70 this makes a difference. Access is easy, and parking is adjacent. My only wish to improve the whole experience would be to have the traffic lights in the University Circle be more co-ordinated. It takes ten minutes to get to the Circle from the heights, and seven to ten more to traverse the Circle from one side to the other, depending upon the time of day and destination. The Maltz Performing Arts Center though, is impeccable and pleasant.
Beautiful structure. Easy on off the freeway location. Gorgeous University Circle neighborhood. Loads of parking. Everyone was friendly ant accommodating. Very comfortable seating. Just a delight!
Beautiful architecture & pristine concert hall. Extremely organized staff. Memorable reverance
Truly beautiful venue, with lovely acoustics and great sight lines. I expect the acoustics would sound boomy at high volumes, but for orchestra and chamber music, its lovely. Very logical lobby and bathroom layouts, although there are some areas that are quite a long walk from the main entrance. Very enjoyable place to see a show!
The rooms are large, the vanity spacious, and the facilities clean. My only suggestion would be for better coffee in the rooms and fresh pillows. The pillows are very worn, and flat. Terrific staff!
Saw La Traviata with Cleveland Opera. This is a beautiful building with excellent acoustics and all the seats are pretty good.
A spectacular performance hall with multiple levels of seating. This is a great place for concerts, performances, interviews, and talks.
When I played the piano here to accompany a choir at Case Western Reserve University, I was impressed by the vault of the ceiling and the boominess within the audience seating area. Even for a small orchestra or choir like ours, the sound seemed resplendent. A beautiful space for performance, but also for ceremonies and the like.
Saw the poet Claudia Rankine here and it was phenomenal. The staff is fantastic and incredibly organized.
Beautiful, old synagogue. The ushers that worked their for the facility was fantastic. The sound system, seating, lighting, view of the stage was exceptional. We all had a wonderful time at the graduation service that was held there.
Amazing center for arts. We saw an opera, and the acoustics were beautiful. I would highly recommend attending performances here.
A magnificent venue. A true gem. No kidding, attend any performance here if you can. You wont be disappointed.
Unique building with lots of history. Chamber Fest Cleveland has performed several concerts here with large audiences, great acoustics and excellent venue of classical chamber music with highly renowned musicians and occasional singers and dancers.
Beautiful place. Nice acoustic. Attended The Forum and Ms. Tarana Burke was the speaker. Parking close by. We asif in line for about half hour for the authorities to let us in. It was cold and windy. That part wasnt good.
Wheelchair seating was available but box office had messed up my tickets. Ushers did their best to accommodate the situation. The row reserved for wheelchair seating was completely sold out two non wheelchair users.
The sound there is great and the building beautiful.
Beautiful structure in the heart of University Circle
Tarana Burke lecture, Outstanding of course! Wish the moderator didnt cut off questions so abruptly
A true gem in Cleveland. Possibly the most beautiful synagogue we ever seen in North America
Had never been there before. We watched a performance of Madam Butterfly. The sound was very good and the performance was delightful.
Absolutely Beautiful facility! Must have been a wonderful synagogue!
Free brass wind concert in an historic and beautifully restored venue.
Saw an author there, was impressed by the atmosphere, it was pretty.
Had a great time at Ohio history day awards. Nice facility!
A beautiful building and a great place to attend a public lecture
Convenient location, ample parking and really nice facility.
8th grade graduation. The venue was very nice.
Excellent performing arts facility. Easy parking.
Not a good venue for very large crowds. Staff was accommodating.
Beautiful building inside and out. Very good, professionally tuned acoustics for musical venues.
Beautifully structured building for plays and operas.
Very unique space for all kinds of performances. We saw an interview with Sarah Vowell and Tony Kushner as part of CWRUs Think series. With just three people on stage, sound was excellent and sightlines we re good for us (and from what I could tell, everyone else). Looking forward to a return trip for some theater or dance.
