Excellent way to spend a Friday or Saturday night. The covid situation has dampened the thrill of the buffet a bit. You are served and the staff can be a bit taxed trying to keep up. This equates to a longer wait time and shorter times to eat before the show, not to mention reducing the serving sizes. However it is a great enough experience to still rate 5 stars in my opinion.
Always a great experience! Food is always good and the show is always amazing. I get season tickets every year. The staff are the best. Highly recommend.
Enjoyed every second of my time at Derby Dinner Playhouse! The food was amazing. The show was a walk down memory lane with Frank Sinatra. One of the best Thanksgiving Ive had in years.
Let me tell u they r on their game there. The service was beyond awesome and food was hot and delicious. Seen Clue the Musical and it was fantastic and what a perform the cast and crew did. MAGNIFICENT. All maintenance social distancing and face mask. I had a magical time and definitely will b back 4 next performance.
The food was fantastic and plentiful especially the.peanut butter pie. The singing in the show was very good as well.
Derby dinner has accommodated to COVID safety precautions to the best degree! Associates and performers give their all to the audiences!
Always enjoy a dinner and a show. Unfortunately they expect you to wear a mask during the show performance even though you very spread out from others. The food is good and the dessert so yummy and a large portion and oh the decaf coffee was delicious!!
A fun place for families. New shows all the time. Frank Sinatra was done well.
Some food was great some was not, coffee was amazing (what flavor was it) show was A++.. will definitely be back
Awesome Show. Talented Actors. Great food and Great atmosphere
The food has never been excellent but this year it was not edible. the frank Sinatra show was boring and very little Christmas decoration. we left at intermission, first time we have ever done that. I have fond memories of DDPH but this wont be one of them.
Been here two years in a row and have been absolutely blown away each time. The cast and show are phenomenal! Staff and service is great, not a bad seat in the house. The food is nothing to brag about although the broccoli salad is pretty good. However, no one goes for the food really. Definitely a must see show!
My boyfriend and I had a great time! The show was well executed, the singing was phenomenal and we loved the comedic touches! Also, get the brownie sundae!
The Buddy Holly Story was excellent. The guy who played Buddy Holly was our server. He was very friendly. The food was awesome!! Would reccomend this show.
First time since the closing for COVID. Everything was nicely handled. All wait staff wore masks. All food and drink orders were handled efficiently and social distancing was a breeze. Loved Cinderella. Just so good to be back!!
It was wonderful the food was awesome the play with absolutely outstanding the singers and the actors for great I had such a wonderful time!!! I love this place cant wait to go back again they remodeled and it is so nice
Well all the actors put there Heart into the Plays it is fantastic and so exciting to go and spend the evening with my Girlfriend
I went for a company outing to see the play Elf and we had a fabulous time. The food was buffet style which flowed pretty quickly to my surprise. The food was ok, just need to work on the seasoning and it would be nice if there was some kind of side panel or place to sit you plate as you are going through the buffet. It is a little hard to hold a salad plate and load your dinner plate at the same time. The dessert is separate and is brought to at your table which is a nice touch. I pick the peppermint cake which was amazing. I overall loved the experience and plan to return with my family.
Wonderful entertainment and food is good great price have had season tickets for 9 years now love going
The staff was very friendly and polite and the show was excellent we all enjoyed it but they do need to learn how to cook fish
If youre looking for dinner and a show, youve found it! Great buffet... try the fish. Theres also Turkey, pork, fried chicken, great salad bar and dessert. Theyll bring dessert to the tables during the intermission. We sat at a table for 6 with two other couples. Fun time with friends watching a good show. Dont forget to check out the gift shop, they have some cute items.
Its a great value for the money. Dinner, a musical show and a play/musical for one price
Good lunch with some very good choices. The Buddy Holly story was great.
This place has ZERO customer service skills!I am a multiple year season ticket holder. I pay extra money to see my shows on Saturday nights, because my wife and my work schedules dont allow for any other nights. We utilize the Theater experience as our date night, so thats why we have season tickets. We also plan our schedule, in advance, for those nights. The performances in most shows are very good. The actors are talented and try very hard.HOWEVER, the people who run the business are TERRIBLE.Lets start from the beginning.Season tickets are bought several months in advance. Your seats and show dates are pre-determined. They charge extra for days like Saturday night, due to the attractiveness of that time slot. So, the COVID 19 hit, and they had to adhere to the social distancing guidelines. Instead of getting a call, I got an email stating that they are not only changing two of my showtimes, but they are moving my seats from decent seats to the worst seats in the place (behind the stage). After complaining about the seating, they finally figured out a way to get me and my wife seats. Totally different days than what we had planned, but ok....COVID....we understand. Still not happy that they just went and rescheduled and reseated, without a call, but ok.Then, they decide to take the buffet (that is in the price) away, and have the wait staff bring the food out.Well, during our last show....we get there at 6pm, order at 6:05pm, and dont get our food until 6:53 pm!!!! We get our food, and its cold and all the food was mixed together and on top of each other. Very nasty. My wife asked for salt and pepper, and the waitress never brought any. After waiting for a long time, I had to get up and go ask someone else for some. She also never refilled our drinks. The VERY MOMENT we got our food (after waiting over 45 minutes for) the waitress asks us if we wanted dessert! My wife said, I dont know, we just got our food....to which the waitress replied, this is the time we ask. We eat, and (since it is all you can eat) I asked for two more chicken breasts. The waitress says, Is that all, because they are going to be shutting down the kitchen soon. In a very rude and dismissing tone. The chicken is brought out....cold. The waitress never again asks us if we wanted dessert. She ignored us the entire night....until it was time to collect the check. Then she was nice. After that experience, my wife and I were disenchanted.THEN, I get an email that was sent to everyone, saying they were canceling several weeks of showings, and that we would be contacted if our show was one of them, to reschedule. My showing was indeed one of those canceled. Nobody reached out, to me. When I sent an email asking about rescheduling, I got a rude email back that said to call the box office. When I called, to reschedule, I was told they dont have anymore Saturdays. Which makes me wonder if they would have called me, and cared about their season ticket holder, then maybe they wouldnt have booked up the Saturdays, before I called. I asked for them to figure out how to get me and my wife our Saturday time. They said I could either do a Friday Matinee or a Monday night......or have my tickets refunded. After both the box office rep and manager were very rude (even laughing at me), I got the general manager (Lee Buckholz) on the phone. He was also very rude, and even suggested that I didnt have any humanity, because I was upset that they werent willing to to ANYTHING to satisfy an upset customer. When I said I paid extra for Saturday night, he said all of our customers are making sacrifices. He even laughed at my suggestion to refund my tickets, and let us go during the weekday (for the inconvenience, the cost difference of the night, and our previous experience). He was so rude that I had my season tickets refunded, and told him Im never coming back. He didnt care. NEVER go to this place! Terrible customer service!
I always enjoy coming here every year for company Christmas party. Very clean and the food is delicious. The fried fish and tartar sauce is my favorite. I also really enjoy the broccoli salad and hummingbird cake. The actors are great. I think it is really neat that our waitress also sang on stage. I really get drawn into the performance. This was my third year coming to see a Christmas play; Ive enjoyed it every time, and hope to keep coming.
Good food. Excellent staff and the show was beyond Fantastic !
Great show. Good food. Actors were good.
Enjoyed the Buddy Holly Show. I think Buddy did a wonderful job bringing the past to us....his appearance and representaton matched perfectly! Brought back alot of memories. The director was fantastic and the cast did very well. Thank you to our waiter (Clay) for his attentive sevices and the food was delicious. Keep up the good work! !!
One of the best shows Ive ever seen there.
The food is much better than of decades ago. The performances are engaging and well executed. There is NO bad seat in the house. Seating is 2,4 or 6 per table. However, it is easy enough - with advanced planning - to have larger group and still be together
It was a great experience. First time there and I will definitely be going to see more shows. We seen Boeing Boeing and it was hilarious. Everyone in the crowd was laughing the whole time. I would recommend it for date night. Are even family night. Are girls night out. It was awesome.
I have been attending shows at Derby Dinner Playhouse since 2013 and I have never seen a bad show there. It is always a welcoming and wonderful environment and the actors and staff are absolutely phenomenal. It is reasonably priced for dinner and a show, I dont know that there is much better for the cost.
The guy who played Buddy Holly was dead on....AMAZING!
With the covid going on, they did an INCREDIBLE job not only with the food, but the performance as well. We were very comfortable in a new way of life!
If you get seated right beside the buffet line, beware. You will have a convenient place for dinner but your neck will be killing you from the vantage point of the stage. The best seats are floor level. Food is always delicious comfort food. The show is great, and the staff is busy but bright.
As always, even with a packed house, the food was fresh, plentiful and most importantly- delicious. The show, while not my favorite genre, was quite enjoyable, and unfortunately sold out. They are running a special if your on the fence about season tickets, with a discount 3 show package. If you have never been, dont let a full parking lot scare you, come in and enjoy some of the best chicken in Southern Indiana and then sit back and be amazed at what they can do with the stage space they have.Oh, and if it helps - they have a full bar.Look forward to seeing you there.
Awesome performance and we were served by the star of the show..
Good food. Loved the performance. Great staff.
The Buddy Holly Show was fantastic! Really enjoyed the evening!
Derby Dinner Playhouse is an excellent place to have dinner and see a play. The performers were excellent and had great comedy timing. Boeing Boeing was the name of the play we saw. The food was very good and the staff was very friendly and courteous. I would recommend going to Derby Dinner Playhouse.
A great date night!
The play and the food were so good. They have done an excellent job of social distancing.
We saw Elf; it was FANTASTIC! Buddy was absolutely amazing! He was so lovable. Santa was adorable. The actors were top notch. They smiled the entire show and seemed so happy to be performing for us. I cannot wait to return; possibly to another Elf performance. The buffet is included in the price of the ticket. I did not eat the buffet so I cannot attest to how it tasted; it did not look like anything I would have wanted to eat though. However, per many other reviews, the dessert was delicious! Drinks, other than tea, water and coffee, are very reasonably priced (adult beverages, smoothies, beer, etc.). The desserts are also reasonably priced. Some of the servers are also performers which is so impressive! I don’t know how they can multi-task; they are able to be an attentive server and then they end up on the stage moments later! Tip them well; they deserve it. This was such a neat experience and appeared to be loved by all. We will be back! Awesome!
Cinderella was awesome, all the new Arrangements were great. Thanks for everything you guys do.
The Buddy Holly Story was very good.
Excellent social distancing, very nice renovations. Super clean and delightfully done.
I am a season ticket holder and always look forward to coming here, it always feels like a special night. I enjoy the food, the gift shop and the wonderful shows. There have only been a few shows Ive truly disliked over the years but I still have enjoyed my evening, it is an escape for a few hours .
My wife and I went to see the stage version of Shrek and we both loved the entire experience other than the play being a bit longer than necessary. We got our tickets through a discount promotion they were running so it was somewhat affordable but even at full price it would have been a good deal. The food was plentiful with a surprisingly good selection and quite tasty. Not sure when we will get to go again but we plan on it!
Not a lot to chose from on the buffet. Food was good tho. The play was awesome as always! The actors always put their a heart n soul into their performances
We really loved the show, Elf, The Musical and rate it excellent !! It was very fun and entertaining, far better than we anticipated for a local show. The buffet was 4 out of 5 because it seemed rushed. The stuffing was dry and the dumplings were tough but the ham, chicken and fish were perfect. I didnt care much for the southern style green beans because they had a kind of sweetness, like sugar was added. For dessert we tried the Peanut Butter Pie. It was tastey and rich. The Supreme Chocolate Brownie tasted more like cake, too much whip cream, and a little vanilla ice cream. The gift shop was very Christmas and as expected several UK and U of L items. Nothing was personalized with Derby Dinner Playhouse on it except for a Christmas stocking (which we purchased) and a black travel bag. We got a suveneir Elf also to remember our Christmas 2019 experience on next years tree at home.
The performances are great and the people are wonderful!!
Excellent, great food, family fun
Always a great time. Cinderalla was wonderful
Love everytime I go to Dinner Derby playhouse! They do not disappoint. Went to see the Elf this time around and I must say it was fantastic!! Who ever the cast to play Buddy was fanatic! Really captured his character. All the actors and actresses where awesome. Loved, loved, loved it!!! Not to mention Elf is my favorite Christmas movie. Perfection musical rendition!
“Buddy” the Buddy Holly story was fantastic! It was like being transported to the late 50’s and watching a Buddy Holly concert.
We went to see Saturday Night Fever and (as usual) it was a great production along with excellent food and superior service. Wish I was able to do those dances! Highly recommended!
Go here around Christmas. Plays are excellent. Professional!! Food is good. Seats a little tight to get in and turn toward the stage. More space would be great.
Outstanding performance and singing for the Buddy Holly show!
We saw Elf the Musical. It was a great time and a great performance. Fun place for sure. (I will say that it is a bit uncomfortable to watch the show at the dinner table but I wouldnt let it keep you from going.)
What a good time. Food is delicious with a wide variety from which to choose. While I dont get to go as often as I would like due to the cost, I have never seen a bad production. All the actors are very talented.
Girls Night Out. We had a great time, good seats. The buffet was good and plenty of food for all with a good variety. Pretty much organized and the waiters/waitresses were very friendly & helpful. If you have not been you need to give it a try!
Food was good. Dessert was excellent. We saw a comedy which was very funny. Servers did a great job. No problem with parking or leaving after the show.
My family and I have been season ticket holders for years. I havent seen a show that I havent enjoyed yet. The food is buffet style, except for dessert and drinks. Your actors and actresses are your servers. Great place for a Show and Dinner in one!
We were fortunate enough to see a Sherlock Holmes show which was amazing! The food was fantastic and service was prompt and friendly. Where we were sitting, we had a great view of the stage. I dont know that there is a bad seat in the house. I would definitely like to see another show here some time!
Great actors no doubt! Every show is a huge blast! I do wish their was more food that isnt so basic though. Like the fried chicken and macaroni and green beans.. Catfish was really good though ! Basic salad stuff as well
This was an excellent experience for my wife and I! The food was good, the staff was friendly and we were entertained the entire evening! We will definitely be back!
Great show, excellent food and service. Great evening!
The play Million Dollar Quartet was Awesome!! The Music was Fabulous!! The people who portrayed the musicians did a wonderful job....it was like you were hearing the famous musicians themselves!! The music was great & they made it fun, by including the crowd with the music. We gave them a standing ovation, & the piano player(Jerry Lee Lewis) had the other musicians come back out & they played some more...including us again! The talent was outstanding...very uplifting & lots of FUN..Would love to see it again!!...Thank you for a wonderful night of entertainment....
We went to see the Million Dollar Quartet and it was awesome! The Johnny Cash character was spot on. The young woman who played Elvis girlfriend had an amazing voice and added a lot of energy to the production. The buffet and the servers were excellent. Our friends are in Louisville twice a year and will definitely returning to the playhouse.
Went there with our daycare we had younger threes to two and a half and it was awesome they really got into the event. Every event Ive been to is just totally awesome The singers are great, the service was awesome and the waiters and waitresses were part of the show. If you have a chance you have to go
Love the place. This is my third time here. They put on a good show. No seat is a bad seat, you can see from places they offer. The services are go getters. Your drinks don’t go dry and dirty plates are cleared right away. Food is great vary tasty.
Derby Dinner Playhouse is always an awesome experience and their New Years Eve special was spectacular! Very family friendly. Great show and the actors/singers/waiters are very personable and talented.
This is a wonderful place to spend an evening. The food was great, the play fantastic. Just a great time all the way around! Go and enjoy!
Great show, great service, and good food.
The actors are great and the plays are enjoyable. But the food is always the same. If u go for the plays only u will not be disappointed.
Wonderful escape and the everyone treat you as family.
Great one of the best ones.
The actors are awesome. Good is great and always hot. Waiters waitresses very pleasant. Highly recommend
It was pretty good. The staff/ensemble members were really courteous and genuine people. The performers put a lot of passion into their work and the place is mostly well run. There were a few microphone/sound issues and some things were a bit staticky, too quiet, or sounded out of place. The food was mediocre, at best. Buffet style with a decent amount of options, as well as a dessert menu and an alcohol menu. The prices are rather affordable here. They have a wide range of performances to suit all audiences, which is nice, but, for the longer ones, I would bring a pillow or something to sit on because the chairs will annihilate your cheeks and back.
The million dollar quartet was the absolute best production we have ever seen and heard! The performers wore extremely talented! We had a fabulous night, as a result!
The food was excellent and plenty of it. You certainly will not go home hungry. The play was Boeing Boeing it was funny very enjoyable.
I took my wife and son to see Elf along with another couple, and we had the best time. Thanks Derby Dinner Playhouse. Also, your casts did a awesome awesome job!
This was my out first time to Derby Dinner House. The wife and I needed a night out to our selves and this fit the bill. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We saw Baskerville. The staff was great, the entertainment was awesome, and the actors were perfect. Playing so many roles with so many lines. We havent laugh like that in years. It was fantastic. We will definitely do this again. Actually thinking about becoming season ticket holders. Great job Derby Dinner Playhouse.
My two cousins and I went to the matinee performance of the Savannah Sipping Society. We truly enjoyed the play and the food except for two things. One being that we had difficulty hearing the actors speak when their back was to us. I really dont understand why actors dont wear mics on their clothes and speakers are not placed around the playhouse so that everyone can enjoy the play even more by being able to hear the entire play.Second, the playhouse is not very handicap friendly. I use a walker and I could barely make it through the aisles plus it is more difficult to go up and down steps with a walker than it would be with a ramp. Plus, I didnt see anyone there with a wheelchair or a scooter. Do you not make accommodations for people that have to use them?I am not trying to be negative, it is just that I enjoyed going and would like to continue going on a regular basis but I would like to see improvements made to make it a more enjoyable outing. It was at full capacity for the matinee and I am sure the other performances are the same or close to it. If would not cost that much to make the improvements I recommended and it would make the play much more enjoyable by those affected.Thank you.
Large pkg lot. Many handicapped access spots. Attended play with a couple large groups (bus transportation). Entrance space is OK, except when the dining area is slow to seat. The gentleman seating our large group requested groups of 4; any less were asked to wait. Two women approached the stand hesitantly and he instructed them to join another twosome. Go on, just follow her(the waitress) Go ahead, just go. If he had even glanced at these women, he should have noticed they were both carrying support canes and wearing dark glasses. I said, They are vision impaired, they dont SEE the waitress. The other twosome helped them get to their seats. The gentleman seating us seemed really frazzled, or as if he hadnt done this before. None of the waiting patrons were crowding him; just waiting in line. The area for the buffet was quite large; it was easy for many people at one time to be getting food.I felt that the buffet was standard fare, nothing exceptional.I will say that the buffet and wait staff WERE exceptional, friendly, helpful and extremely attentive. The play was very well done. The script was witty and well written. The cast was amazingly talented!
I have loved every single show I have watched here. Tonight we watched Snow White and it was just as spectacular as the rest. The food is always delicious and the shows always surprise me with their little twists. Its hard to pick a favorite but my favorite showing has to be the Little Mermaid. The children showings, such as Snow White and the Prince, have age appropriate food as well as age appropriate entertainment and desserts.
