Great place. Walkinh paths are nice and smooth. The paths are wide enough for 3 adults to walk on. Would also like to have had more history details regarding the history of the Fort.
This is a great place to come and learn about the history of Clarksville! The Fort itself is very well preserved and you are able to walk around inside it. The grounds are very well maintained. The museum is free (at least it was when I visited) and tells the story of Clarksvilles past. It is full of artifacts as well. Its definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!
If you love history, this place has it. The only draw back is many of the audio presentations we not working and there seems to be a Yankee slant. The earthen works are interesting as well and the view of downtown is amazing.
The Husband and I were on the search for a fun place we’re we could learn some history and walk off a heavy lunch. Fort Defiance was just that spot. The Historic trail they have is about a mile to the end and a mile back. You can stand exactly where the fort use to stand and still see some of the trenches. There are short reads along the trail and more history and artifacts inside the museum, located towards the beginning of the trail. The lady in the museum (Lord I forgot her name) was warm, welcoming and full of helpful information. Definitely recommend. The walking trail is pet-friendly!
Museum in interpretive center is great. Path could use some maintenance and weirdly just ends into a busy 4 lane road.
Great 20 minute movie. 1 mile walk about. Docent was very knowledgeable and happy to chat!
Nice gift store and nature walks that had cannons and information about them
A nice history lesson for the kids!
My mom volunteers and helps out where needed. I visited this past summer and my daughter and I had a great time when we went there 2 times and miniTheater is awsome with movie and history of the fort i recommend going there and exploring this place
Good place to walk your dog.
The staff was very informative and gave recommendations for good follow up reading. The trails were very easy to walk and some really neatly identified trees along the trail. My friend that accompanied me that day was a Civil War buff and he really enjoyed the Ft. Defiance Civil War Park and center. Had a great time. Thank you, Kurt Wilson
Great walking park. Information available all through. Peaceful
I love the programs that they offer. We go to the Christmas program every year, its become a family tradition
Wonderful place for Civil War history. The interactive with the small theater thats tells about life in Clarksville during the war and its museum are nice treasures. I hope that Fort Defiance continues to be developed. It would be nice to see exactly where the canons would be located during that time. Looking forward to the living history events.
Very informative, nice display of historical cannons from the civil war.
A bit disappointed. Not really worth going to the anniversary of the surrender, however, it is gorgeous up there
Nice park for aslow and easy walk
An amazing experience! This is my first visit to a Civil War era fort. Fort Defiance offers a locally-produced and performed video about the Civil War in this area of the country and did Justice to all individuals involved! I highly recommend anyone traveling through Clarksville Tennessee to stop and see this place! Amazing history!
Great little walking path and museum! Definitely worth the time to stop by this place and spend some time visiting the displays and history the museum has to offer. The winding little walking trail has a bit of an overlook across the river and some more history to learn about along the way.
This place was a welcoming and we loved to learn about Clarksville and how it played a big part in our history. If you want to know more about why you see Mill on signs, streets and school. this is a great place to find it. This cannon and scenery was spectacular when look towards downtown Clarksville. This is a small, but very informative. Very pretty location.. History is an important tool for our children...
My wife and I are new to Clarksville so visited the park to learn more about the citys history. The historical film was excellent as was the small but very interesting museum. Anybody who moves here should visit as well as natives or long-timers who havent gotten there yet.
Nice location. Decent short walk through pretty area with nice views of town. Best part was the guy that had a display outside about Civil War medicine. My kids were intrigued by the live leech and the different nifty tools they used. Very entertaining!
Great place to visit. It has a very short walking path that includes historical markers. Inside are a couple of rooms featuring period costumes and Civil War memorabilia. The staff are knowledgeable of the significance of the site and its role in Clarksvilles Civil War participation. Clean restrooms and grounds. Also, there are several spots that would look great as a backdrop for photos.
Nice and peaceful exhibit with a little souvenir shop.
The fort is no longer in existence, although the museum is interesting. It is a good place to get some exercises and walk the grounds
What a great place to take the family and learn the history of Clarksville.
No actual fort (as others have mentioned) but still worth a visit! Great location for a picnic lunch and a small hike. Exhibits inside are nice and informative for History lovers and the staff was as nice as they come! Oh...and it’s free...so that’s always cool!
Instagram: Wanderlust_obscuraUpon entering Fort Defiance the leaves from the trees drifted down to the ground as if to welcome me. Fort Defiance has a small museum, an introductory historical Civil War film, and gift shop. Beautiful views and a walking trail with historical placards are everywhere. The fort is no longer here, but its history will never be forgotten. Phyllis, a volunteer, greeted us in the welcome center. She was very helpful and set up the film for us to see. We took the self guided tour and browsed the area. The museum is small yet very informative and interactive. I plan to come here again and bring friends when the weather is cooler. Picnic tables are set all over the area to eat and drink. The most breathtaking part of Fort Defiance is the view of Clarksville and the walking trail. Admission is free and this is a definite go see place in Clarksville!
My wife and I are new to Clarksville so visited the park to learn more about the citys history. The historical film was excellent as was the small but very interesting museum. Anybody who moves here should visit as well as natives or long-timers who havent gotten there yet.
Good place to learn about Americans history, especially the civil war. Would be better if they kept the weeds and brush clear
Wonderful stop. Great museum area. Never knew the history of this area.
Let me clarify my three stars... Whats here is awesome and I love it but whats not here kills the experience. In truth this is just a poorly designed and bland park. In terms of historical stuff, they have a building that plays an informative video, some cannons, and placards spread around. The fort is really just some remnant dirt berms covered in foliage. This could really be a gem if it were further developed.
Very interesting little stop. A good place to let the kids run around outside
Really neat little park. Guy at the desk was very knowledgeable and eager to share with everyone that walked in. He offered for us to come back another day and show us around but the day we went he was there alone. This little park is full of history and well up-kept.
Nice place to visit trail could of been more longer and some restrooms to use but over all its a good place
Nice place to walk and enjoy nature.
A beautiful place situated on a beautiful hill overlooking the City of Clarksville. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
Great place to visit regarding the History of Clarksville during the Civil War,Staff very helpful as well Knowledgeable of this place, during the Civil war.
Cute little sopt if you want a short site seeing spot. Nice little walk as well.
Really great trails with plaques noting many interesting facts about the area and events.
The Fort itself is earthen, so theres no real structure to tour but walking around the park one can easily see the trenches and mounds that served as defensive positions. There is a Welcome Center that has a small gift shop, breif film, and some relics from the period. One wishes the trees between the river and the fort were removed so the position of the fort could be better appreciated. Great place for a family picnic. No cost for entrance.
Nice, unfortunately you cannot see the river.
Great place to visit with family. The curators are very knowledgeable.
Beautiful place very nice n friendly people too
Love the presentation they have here. The kids always have a great time also.
Very well organized and displayed
Informative movie, short walk through the fort
The fort itself is really an earthworks, so not too much to see, but there is a short trail that has plaques with information about the war, time period and area. The little museum was nice. We didnt see the movie, so I cant comment on that, but there was one available.
Beautiful place to visit! So rich in history, love it!
An amazing museum with amazing information
I love to walk my dog there. Lots of trees and shade. Great view of the Cumberland River. Inside the building is a museum.
A very nice nature walk and historic fort of the civil war era.
Cool spot to swing by for about 30 minutes. Pretty good 10 minute movie about Clarksville during the civil war. Some cannons that kids think are awesome. They have several events/presentations where people come talk about civil war medicine, telegraghs, and other civil war era topics. The fort itself is an earthen fort. Basically fighting trenches surrounding the peak of a hill.
Enjoyed the park and history connected to it.
Possibly the single most important place to visit to learn about Gen Grants campaign through Tennessee
Very good short experience.
Good historical information.
Good history givin great trails, fort could be set up better I think had a great time still, beautiful veiw
It was very enlightening and the staff were very informative.
I love historic places like this
I so wish I could give 6 stars!!!!
Great place to go walking or pokemon going. Has a lot of fun facts with history on signs. There are a few civil war cannons on display which are fun to take pictures with.
Fort Defiance is an interesting place to visit. If youre a history buff, there is some good history to view about Clarksville Tn. There is also a nice concrete walking path and nature to enjoy. It is a great place for out of towners that might want to visit the past of Clarksville.
Great walking trail. Not A lot of people on the trail at once.
Park is kept up nicely and has good walking trail.
Ok so the museum was under some reconstruction when visiting, but the park was beyond beautiful! I would recommend at least walking thru the park itself or part of it.
Nice little visitors center & museum with a movie about the time period.
Decent place, wish they had kept up with the Earth mounds, they need the grass cleared
Nice little park with some good explanations of local history.
The front desk ladies are super helpful. They have an awesome museum, and souvenirs are reasonable price!!! Will be visiting again!!!
This place is packed full of history. I love the view over clarksville.
Beautiful views! Very historic! Learned something that I did not know.
Very informative, great views and history.
Nice place for children to explore,,
Well worth the visit. Easy to access and a great staff!
This was a good experience to see how the Civil War affected Clarksville TN.
Stop by if have time. Nice display.
Nice people learn a lot about the war everyone need to go
Cool Civil War fort with walking path and informative museum.
Travel back in time through exhibits from the Civil War era and relive history through a self-guided tour of the grounds. This is also a great vantage point from where to see the City of Clarksville and the Cumberland River.
Although very small! Very Historic & Beautiful place to go & Walk!
Went on almost the coldest day of the year. 8 degrees, a lil snow on ground. Nice little trail. Well paved. Maintained. A short 0.8 mile trail. Zig zag.Interpretive center was very nice. Employees friendly. Played a 20 minute video in the theatre for me. Volume was much too high. Not much into Civil War but my brother in law Glen would have enjoyed.
The layout didnt make a lot of sense but climbing the hill was a good workout.
Nice walking trail. Museum was informative.
