We wanted to do this class for years and we finally signed up! Didem was the best instructor ever - her humor, patience and encouragement were perfect for us first timers. Classes fill up so fast because they are so awesome! If you are debating signing up, just do it and hope that you get Didem because we all absolutely love her!!
Iilena was great and very helpful! Such a fun ladies night here. Cool relaxing environment with tons of laughs. Must do again.
Had a wonderful time supporting a great foundation. Love you Autumn and thank you Illena and Lilly for making it such a fun time.
Amazing historic place to unwind and get inspired to create majestic art!
This is basically run like a private club with classes. There isnt really a receptionist during weekend hours. Not always easy to know who to talk to or where to go to get to your first class. Its a huge space with tons of smaller rooms and a few floors. This was my second time in the building for my first class.I like the garden. It was slightly awkward for me because I dont know anyone there. Its right off the Red Line at Clark and Division. Walk maybe 3 or 4 blocks. Ignore Maps if it says North and Clyburn. Thats wrong. The cost was pretty reasonable. I wasnt told to bring 50 for the model for the first of five or six classes. They werent quite on the same page as to materials to buy. They said drawing board, but they didnt say the thin kind with the clips on it, for example. Similar confusion about paper. They said newsprint paper, but then some reason to go with the heavy creme colored kind..? I fogot what...Minus the minor communication issues, so far its ok. I could probably personally use a whole private class to myself because i have no clue what Im doing, having never drawn before.I dont have a whole lot of info yet, but I am pleased with the photos i took.
This is a hidden gem. The art studio is housed in a late 17th century mansion on Dearborn. The 1st & second floors are in their original state & the architecture alone is worth viewing. There are artists’ exhibits on the first floor and working studios and classrooms on the 2nd floor. The 3rd floor, which was originally the ballroom was changed after the Academy purchased the mansion around 1920. They put in a skylight and the entire floor is now a studio. In addition to the main house there is also a lovely courtyard and a carriage house with a sculpture studio on the ground level and 2 more floors of artist’s studios above.
All the classes offered here are amazing. Andy is such an amazing teacher. He helps you learn without making you feel like an idiot. My goal is to take every possible class that they offer.
This academy, housed in a charming and well-maintained former residence, nearly always has an exhibition running. It also offers art classes and has a few artist studios in the back building. Theres an artfully unkempt small back yard. If youre in the area, its definitely worth a quick visit.
I just joined Palette & Chisel and I love it so far. I attend the open studios on a regular basis and Ive never met so many talented artists under one roof. The members are so friendly and inviting. It is a truly amazing learning environment.
Very cool artist house that my wife and I got to tour. My wifes aunt rents some space and it was amazing to see the architecture and works of art. It has some very cool history as well!Id definitely recommend going to check it out!
