A nice little museum that had a broad scope of the towing industry. I went in not knowing what to expect and came out full of interesting facts about towing. It is definitely the weirdest museum I have been to, but that did not change how good it was.

This place was great. I love trucks and can appreciate all the tow truck guys because i own a old truck ive had to have towed many times. This place shows great respect to those guys. Disappointed extremely that they no longer have the stuffed tow truck that would have been the cherry on top of my Tennesse trip.

This place truly is amazing. Not only is everything inside amazing, put the people who put this place together and make this place run. I had the honor and pleasure of visiting for Museum Weekend, and I was blown away. Everyone made me feel like family here. The museum has so many awesome tow trucks, and awesome artifacts to see. The walls are lined with years and years of museum inductees. So much knowledge in one place. You also have to take a moment to visit the Wall of the Fallen to pay your respects. The gift shop is not only just towing related, but has SO MANY COOL THINGS!!! And they are open Sundays! (Great for last minute gifts). I highly suggest checking this place out if you are a gearhead, love old vehicles, or love tow trucks! Also definately consider becoming a member and supporting the museum!

This is a small, privately funded museum. Considering they dont have a huge budget, it is a really great place. They have many trucks spanning from the dawn of vehicles to modern-day in their collection and also every type of toy or model tow truck imaginable! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the entire facility is very clean. It is well worth the few dollars admission. If you are interested in tow trucks or vehicles at all, this place is definitely a place to check out! My son and I spent a couple hours there while the wife and daughters went book shopping, and we had a blast!

If you are or were a tow truck driver, like my husband, or just a car/truck enthusiast, like my husband, this is a great little museum. The guy at the front desk was very friendly and talked us through going through the museum and even chit chatted with us before we left. The museum has many different tow trucks from all of the decades. Some were inherited, some loaned. There is a glass case that has probably every tow truck toy that was ever made, and there are a lot! There is also a Hall of Fame section and outside is a Memorial Wall for all of the fallen drivers. I had never thought about what a dangerous job this could be. We spent about 45 mins there and it was well worth the $10 per person donation to the museum.

My wife and I were visiting from out of town when she suggested that we visit this museum. At first I was a bit sceptical but I must say it was very nice! There are quite a few older historical trucks on site in very good repair that are truly beautiful if you appreciate 20th century design. The short film at the beginning was informative but didnt overstay its welcome. I didnt expect to loose a very enjoyable hour taking in towing and recovery memorabilia but I would absolutely recommend it.

What a great place for kids and grownups to explore the world of towing!! We took our 2 year old grandson and he LOVED it! They have two vehicles for the kids to sit in ....1 tow truck in the gift shop area they can actually play with the lights and the Boom. They also have hard hats and safety vests for the kids to try on. Plus they have safety cones for the kids to play with. The gift shop is cute too and of course you cant leave without buying a tow truck LOL. Definitely recommend!

Ive been waiting to go here since i saw it in TowTimes magazine in late 80s or early 90s. It was definitely worth the wait if you love Heavy Duty wreckers, and everything about them, like I do. Wall of the Fallen is sad but its something that needs to be seen. I spent most my life running HD wrecker and luckily was only clipped by a car 1 time and it obviously wasnt that bad cuz Im here writing this but now I work @ PennDot and I keep hearing about safety and how many police, fireman and state workers are killed in line of duty cuz theyre 1st responders but rarely do I ever hear a mention of the wrecker driver. Bad part of that is wrecker drivers are killed at rates comparable to the other 3 jobs. I make sure, any time I hear ppl talk about road side deaths, I mention the wrecker operator. Not because wrecker operator lives are worth more than the others but because they are worth just as much as the others. Be smart out there ppl! Slow down and move over! Its real simple. There was a plethora of different sizes, ages and styles of wreckers from the smallest, which was the Cony w 2cyl engine and a 1200 Holmes Commander boom with Century looking body, to the biggest mechanical wrecker ever built. The Beast as it is known was 1 of 4 W70 Holmes 70 ton wrecker beds made in the early 1950s for the military. For whatever reason the military did not order any more and no more W70s were ever built but this one was sold to a man named Earl Shade in 1960 who then mounted her on a 61 Autocar w 180 Cummins 5spd main and 4spd aux trans. The rest is in the pics if you want to read a lil more but I think it would be great to have some old 750s or 850s with a few of the extras the W70 had like PTO power swing, boom and extension. One small negative would be trying to drag 500 of 7/8 cable. Haha! I could go on and on forever but take a look for yourself and definitely go for real. Thanks.

A fun place to visit if you have any love for history or trucks in general. To begin with they play you a movie that tells you an in depth history of tow trucks then your allowed thru an area filled with all sorts of different trucks, then a hall of drivers past, you exit into a kids area where children can operate a small wrecker boom. My son loved it and if we return to Chattanooga anytime soon I would love to visit again.

We became members of the International Towing Museum for the past 3.5 years but due to us being on the east coast of NC, had yet to visit, until this weekend. Wow! It’s still growing but they had so much! So many trucks of different sizes and styles along with old equipment and tons of vintage photographs. There is so much history here. Along with all that, they have a beautiful tribute out front for those that have lost their lives working the white line. We attended their wall of the fallen ceremony and it was so powerful. Informs and expands upon a very specialized subsection of our society. Often forgotten and ignored, until your vehicle breaks down of course, this museum marks all the early wreckers with an emphasis on the mechanical over the hydraulic that permeates our society today. Great pictures and some beautiful restored vehicles from the first half of the 20th century. I would have enjoyed it more if it went over and informed the actual mechanics involved in towing and how it changed. Needs an historians touch or a museum curators involvement to make some more interactive exhibits though. Very tenuous international links but it would be difficult to get vehicles from outside the US to Chattanooga, TN.

The museum was fairly inexpensive and held some beautifully restored wreckers. Also some interesting antique tools, fuel dispensers, and toys. The two long halls of notable benefactors (aka hall of old white men) was kind of weird.

Sa
Review №61

The museum has some interesting features, but it is overpriced for a walk through that probably takes less than 30 minutes, even if you stop to read every informational display. I took my 3 kids because my 2 boys love tow trucks and the lady at the front desk was extremely rude. She wouldn’t honor a coupon I had on my phone, and we had a brochure that said you receive a free gift if you bring it in. We did and the free gift was a drink coozie. My oldest picked out a color and my daughter wanted to exchange the color (right then — because she wouldn’t give them each one of the cheapo coozies) and you would have thought we asked her for her right arm. Also, I hadn’t been in the door 60 seconds and she had already called out my 3 year old and reprimanded me for him touching a glass case and getting too close to a truck. I almost walked out then but didn’t to spare my oldest the disappointment. If you’re going to put trucks on display, expect that they’re going to receive glancing touches. I was keeping my child under control, he wasn’t climbing on the trucks, but I’ve never felt so unwelcome at a place I paid to enter into. I wouldn’t recommend it for kids under 5 for sure, and I really wouldn’t recommend it in general because of our experience. As a business, don’t put your rudest staff member out front. It was just an unpleasant, unacceptable experience to a tourist attraction.

This is a great little museum. Im not sure how it survives but it was hoping the day we were there. It starts with a brief film about the history. Then you enter the first room. They have trucks from all over the country in all different sizes. The model tow trucks along the walls was cute too. We loved the antique gas pumps they had all around. This main room was filled with lots of information to read. The second room was not child friendly. It was rows and rows of photos of people who have earned recognition in the towing world. We walked right through this room. You reenter the gift shop in the back order. There they finally have a tow truck you can sit on. This was the highlight for my child. You climb in the cab and can turn on the lights. If you climb out you can work the tow with a remote. Great picture opportunity. No tow museum would be complete with out Mater. They have a cutout for more photos. The gift shop is cute but doesnt offer a great selection. Overall this was a great stop.
