Lovely park. Playground for the kids Nicely paved trails for walking or biking. Plenty of riverside views. Pavilions for picnics. Popular put in or take out spot for river running.
Pleasant place to take a walk or jog this is a beautiful trail at the ox bow bend of the river Rivanna. There are so many things you can do here like go for a float in the river taking tube. You might spot good number of wild life such as the ones dipicted in the pictures below like I spotted a turtle, heron bird and garter snake(ribbon snake).
Excellent walking/running trail along the river. Great playground area for the kids.
Wonderful park by the Rivanna and connected to the trail system as well. Ideal for walk anytime of the day year round. Lots of shades and spots to watch the river, though not ideal for picnic with a big group. The trail is paved so its all weather and great for biking too. The loop is a mile long bit also has 0.5 and 0.25 mile options.
I love everything about this park. It is great place for our whole family to go and spend time together
Very pretty! Paved and dirt trails. Saw a blue heron. Relaxing.
Was paving some trails there today making it Great Again!! Trump 2028!!
Very nice and peaceful, went there to have a piece of mind, watching the kids play, people tubing having fun and people walking the trail.
Ive been here many times, and have always enjoyed it. Its nice to be able to walk, sit, and listen to the Rivanna. There are always people on the trail, and its an easygoing path. Good parking, plenty of great vistas and photo opportunities, and fantastic people watching. Highly recommended.
Nice walking trails and scenery along the river
Fantastic park! Beautiful nature trails that are paved so you can skate on them. There are some parts by the river that are beautiful. I saw some people going in the water, there is even a dock area. The kid playground is really great. Good swings there is even a tandem swing. The playground itself has a soft wood chip padded floor so the kids can safely run around.
Lovely walk. River was running big and brown. Surprised me as I didnt know wed had so much rain.
If you like the outdoors, like me. This is a perfect place to not only go swimming but also tubing and canoeing so much fun
We came here for a break on our drive to vacation. Very peaceful and a cool little drive to it as well. Wish there were bathrooms.
Beautiful river with river walking trails. Tubing and kayaking
Trail has assortment of trail types such as asphalt, grass, field trails, rock trails and water crossings. One section under pass was dangerous off bike walking only.Trail was blocked by university and had to find alternate route.
Great playground for kids, and plenty of access points on the river.
Pretty park, with good views of the river.
Nice place to walk, bike..ect on the trail. Plenty of shade and perfect for little kids. The view of the river is nice to see as you use the trail. Play ground is closed due to covid, which is expected. Picnic tables and lots of grass.
I live near this park and am grateful for the playground, picnic tables, river and trail. Its nice to see families playing and eating in the park. Also great to see folks walking their pets. All who you pass while walking on the trail or sitting in the park are very pleasant. I think the area promotes a feeling of good will for all who visit Riverview Park. Its really great to see how well the park grounds are maintained. The steps that go down to the river makes it convenient and safe to be right on the waters edge of the river. Listening to the movement of the water passing over the rocks in the river is very soothing. And listening to the various sounds of the birds as they sing out to one another is natures fine free music to your ears.
Love it except the playground is in the blazing sun and the equipment gets really hot.
From out of town and was a great place for the kids to blow off some steam before we got back on the road.
First time to visit great park. Nice flat trail to walk along the river.
Parking is awful and the entry way fills up with overflow so as to make a narrow one way lane for both entering/exiting the park. Trail is all paved and partially shaded so a nice walk. Playground still closed due to COVID.
One of the prettiest places in Cville
Great place to park your vehicle for using the pathway or the river.
Nice area. Great walkway.
The bike trail is very nice.
Pretty place to stroll
Very nice park. Cool shady paved trail along river. Nice playground for the little ones. Hard to believe you are in town
Great paths and river access
Went there in the afternoon with some friends after office. The serene weather would surely release all stress and lift someone’s mind. The sound of flowing water over stones is always one of my favorites. Seat on a stone and forget all the sufferings of life diving into nature. There is a paved trail. You can bring your kids and dogs for a walk.
Really nice park on the river. Beautiful!
On a potential list of parks to visit this would rank lowly. Only if you live nearby and visit for convenience.
Nice river trail and good playground. Good sandbar for summer fun.
Absolutely beautiful.
Part of Rivanna Trail and a lovely place to walk any time of year. Dog friendly with a play ground at parking lot location.
Its beautiful to walk in nature. Warning cars have been broken into so carry with u or put belongs where they cant be seen.
Nice park but there is a cell tower across the river
Pretty Cool. Needs a Restroom.
Great view of the river!
It has a nice paved trail to walk, jog or bike ride along the river with benches for a rest area or to just enjoy the fresh air in the shade and enjoy watching the tubers and canoes having fun floating bye. It has a playground to choose if one would like to enjoy a swing on the swing set or maybe just bring a lunch or snack to enjoy sitting at one of the picnic tables and take in the nice scenery and enjoy watching the activities.
The trails along the river are great for a walk or run with your kids and/or dogs. And the play ground area even had some equipment that my 19 month could play on. Only down fall for this park is the restrooms are the portable ones.
Nice play area and walking trail. Love the parent/child combination swing.
The park is beautiful, and the trail is great for running. It is very clean and the playground looks to be well-maintained. There are portable toilets available, and those are also relatively clean and well-maintained. I have had a few issues with off-leash dogs jumping on me or running all over the trail, but, for the most part, the dog owners using the trail keep good control of their dogs and are respectful and courteous to other trail users.
Beautiful park
Love the paved path for walking, running and biking. There is a playground and picnic tables. Plenty of space and not crowded.
BEAUTIFUL!! Love walking down to see the river.
Great place to float down RIVANNA. Great trails!!! Perfect to picnic. Just fabulous.
Park plus river kept kids entertained for hours
So lovely here
A nice place to smoke a blunt
Be aware that there is a dog issue at this park. Dogs loose on T, W, Th, have been known to chase bike riders and bite them, attack other dogs and injure the wildlife. I know, because my 11 yr. old, gentle, well trained dog has been attacked numerous times. Now, I cant take him there. Then, when the owners are called out on it, they get rude and wont give you their information. The park has said, to call the police or animal control right away, but by the time they come, the person is gone. I wished people would leave dogs like this at home. It ruins the enjoyment of the park for others! BRING ONLY WELL BEHAVED, WELL SOCIALIZED DOGS HERE! The parks and rec said, they would post new signage and havent seen it yet.
Great playground and stairs down to Sandy river bank area great for toddlers to play in river
Nice easy hike in shady trees along a pretty river. Great way to beat the summer heat.
This is a great park to walk along the river, or have your kids play in the playground. The playground really is for older kids (older than 4) due to the steepness of the slides and equipment.
One of my favorite places to hang out when I was in highschool, now an even more pleasant family staple. The trail is mostly well maintained, some areas have sand covering it. You can use rollerblades on most of it. We brought our entire family here to eat lunch on the picnic tables, bike on the path, and play in the water.
Theres a nice (mulched) playground with a variety of play equipment. There are walking trails and some access to a creek.
Great park to hike, too liberal dog policies and there is poop everywhere along the trail. Perhaps more trash receptacles? No place to get a drink of water.
Its really calming and beautiful this time of year.
Nice place to take the kids, walk your dog, run, bike or just enjoy natures beauty. Theres often a community service officer there that helps to keep the trails safe. Very friendly ! The river has several things to do like conoe and tube rentals. Very relaxing atmosphere and alternative to streets and highways with miles of walking trails that allow you to get around town without the hassle of traffic.
Beautiful and serene walls, dip your feet in the rivet while your kids ate at the playground. Love it there.
Only flat trail in all of Charlottesville
A great site for picnics, walks, jogs, or to play in the river. My one complaint: inadequate bathrooms (they have porta potties) and no water fountains.
It is a nice paved walk! It varies so I dont get bored doing the entire 4 miles
I dont know this place
Beautiful trail with lots of dogs and bicycles.
Great trail for walking/running. Very good scenery and playground equipment for kids.
This might be a great trail to go for a run or to walk your dog or push your stroller, but dont waste your time if youre looking for birds or wildlife. There is also a lot of trash.
Great place to walk or run! Shaded and great for pets!!
Great place to bring family and pets!! Wonderful path to jog, bike or walk.
The walk along the river is a staple of my outdoor walking time. Gorgeous.
Its a beautiful park and a great place to take the kids for a bike ride or to enjoy a river side run.
Great park. Easy access. Clean. Lots of open area. River acess
Super clean playground, plenty of lovely trails! No shade on the playground area, though! Also, Google Maps tries to get you to turn off Chesapeake one intersection too early! So beware of that! The entrance is easy to see from Chesapeake, though!
Great location alongside the Rivanna river. Much improved take out/ put in for paddlers. Nice playground for toddlers through tweens. 2mile (one way) out and back paved path that connects to more paved or unpaved paths on the other side of the river. Kids can scooter, skate or bike on path with their grown-ups. Frequented by dog walkers, families, runners and walkers.
Beautiful riverfront park with a fully wheelchair accessible loop walk about a mile in length. Very nice playground. Very dog friendly. Dogs are allowed off leash Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of every week. Great place to teach a kid to ride a bike.
Nice trails very pleasent. It has been reported that more than one woman has been hassled so not a solo night walk place generally safe just be aware
I like this park because of it proximity to down town and trail access. It also has excellent access to the Rivanna river for fishing, kayak releases and or pick up.
Awesome place to take the kids there is a park there really for smaller children my kids are 12 so they think theyre too big for it..But they do love hiking the trails and riding their bikes there. We also walked up to free bridge and cross the bridge and come down the other side of the river think thats Mill Trail if Im not mistaken but real good place to see the river. We also put our kayaks or canoe in there and Float from there to Milton which is almost 5 miles on the river but a really awesome float
Paved trails..very good for walking or running.
Such a great place and space
Decent little park. A nice playground for the kids and some picnic tables to eat at. Theres also a stream access thats nice to see.
PROS: Our whole family loves it here as does our homeschool group. The play equipment is great, second only to Pen Park. All in all....nice park with riverside play on a small dirt bach and the riverside walking trail is great. Great place for homeschool kids to make new homeschool friends. Also super close to Meade Park for a 2 parks in 1 day fun trip.GREAT KAYAK PUT IN OR TAKE OUT.CONS: PortAJohns arent cleaned enough. No covered shelters. Bring camp chairs or picnic blankets as there arent enough places to sit. Not ideal for ball or field play - small grass areas are riddled with dog poo and dogs often walk unleashed with owners so keep small or curious children close to you. UNSAFE steps to river mean well but erosion has dropped water too far down and when rain raises the river level, it is too deep and way too fast for kids who are used to going down there and find a dangerous surprise.
Nice park. Right on the river
A playground is adjacent to the main parking area. The trail is well-maintained and marked. The walk is Shady for much of the trail. The walk is along the river and is beautiful.
Great experience
