We are very frequent brewery visitors and were not immediately blown away by their beer when they opened. We’ve recently gone back and have to say they have some new customers! Their beer is on point! Pair that with the Rhino Market open next door!
This place is OK- this was my first time here and honestly the beers didnt WOW me, most of the ones I tried werent that good or were too weird to have a full glass of. The atmosphere was also strange, we came on a Wednesday night around 9pm and they had a speaker so the brewery itself was eerily quiet, once the speaker left it got a bit more lively but I will probably stick to the other brewerys in NODA VS. this one.
I went in as a customer many years ago. I came out the very first visit as member of the best community in NODA. This gathering of beer (thoughtful beer), music (every mood met), food (Charlottes best have cooked/brought food here), family (the Alexanders know how to do old world Hospitality), and heart (If you left yours at home, theyll let you borrow theirs) has made me a want to go back every chance I have.
Always have a local cider on tap! Good outdoor seating, great staff
I dont know what took me so long to get here! Great atmosphere and fantastic beers on tap. And plenty of options of beers to go as well
Great atmosphere and their beers just keep getting more d every time I go there
Best place ever to grab a drink with work friends after leaving the office!
Awesome beer, always new and interesting. Can’t wait to go back
Outstanding beer.Outstanding service.
I had a strange experience here. I’m very use to NoDa weird, just an odd crowd. Someone was selling dirt... anyways, when I went they didn’t have anything that stood out to me.
I love the company of Phil. Its typical south. I expected more Country songs on the channel. Phil was ready to change the channels, very supportive. Love the ambiance. Beers are OK. I had Sea of companions kind of sweet to me. Its called oyster stout, (I might not know the value of it) my friend liked it.
Free Range Brewing. I really cannot remember if I have been here or not. Lets see... common long term memory... common long term memory kick in to gear..... oh no... it is shutting down... I got to reboot my brain now.
Cool vibe, very relaxing. Love their innovative beers with local and herbal sourced ingredients
Delicious and varied beers. Cool, modern ambience. Well done! Also, greatly appreciate the baby changing tables and both male and female restrooms.
Free Range is a great atmosphere with a friendly staff. A lot of knowledge and heart goes into the brews that are made from locally grown ingredients. I pretty much stick to porters and stouts. However, their wonderful flavors push me to try everything on the ever-changing menu! Great spot!
Its a tough call, but I think this place has the best beer in Charlotte. Ive been to every brewery in the city and these guys are one of the few willing to venture out of IPA-land to truly create one off amazing small batch beers. Everyone there is very friendly, the atmosphere is great and they have great food.I do have one request:Please make more Hee-Haw House. Its one of the best beers Ive ever had!
Really!? Me, and my wife, travel to NC from MI to enjoy all the local breweries and we get turned away from you. It’s cool your having a show I care nothing about but why block us from the bar. I wish you well but had hoped to know what beers you offered. Cheers
Went during an event last July, so probably not a fair representation, but it was mobbed indoors and out. There was no option to purchase a flight (event day only?), and the music outside was very, very loud. Set-up with food trucks and beer outside was confusing also. We left shortly after trying one beer, which was good, but nothing special.
Good beer!
Nice place with a good selection of beer, but I did not feel welcomed by the staff upon entering. I was traveling alone, so maybe they were put off by a female sitting at the bar alone or maybe they need to polish their customer service skills, but the place was pretty empty except for a few local people and it took a solid 3 to 4 minutes for any one of the three people behind the bar to speak to me although they all looked at me several times without a word. Quick stop for a beer and food available from the truck outside.Dont expect warm and fuzzy unless you live in the town is the vibe that I received.
Always great beer, atmosphere, and service. We have lived half a mile away for three years, and everytime we go in we have a blast. Friends from out of town compliment our choice to take them there. As far as local breweries, this is a must. Keep up the great work
Since Im antisocial, I was pleasantly surprised there were so few people here on a Friday night, but this place deserves ALL the beer-loving customers, since they are definitely the most creative brewery Ive been to in Charlotte. They try many strange styles and use a lot of adjuncts, but the adjuncts are always very well proportioned and the underlying beer is great in its own right. The bartenders are cool as well, and are generally super helpful and nice. Highly recommend.
Our beers are too unique to do flights yikes if you had said this before I ordered I would have left
Great atmosphere...felt welcome!
My favorite spot in NoDa! No loud TVs, really tasty brews, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. Its the perfect place to unwind after a long day, or catch up with friends. The different brews seem to change regularly, but the staples of the place stay on the menu.
Really wonderful brewery. Delicious and big menu with fun seasonal changes, great bartenders, awesome big open space, and they are really community and sustainability minded.
Was the beer good? Ya. Have I had better? Ya
Excellent Herbal beer.....
Great staff and good atmosphere. Free Range truly specializes in the micro side of microbrewery. For better or worse (generally for the better) you will find an always rotating selection of beers made from local NC ingredients. There is always a gem to find in its beer list.
The beer was great and the bar tender made a great recommendation. ++++ No dogs allowed inside. There was just this one dude making ageist comments about those Over 40.......
This is an awesome brewery, and one of the unique ones in Charlotte. Their cream ale is one of the best Ive ever had, and they serve up these awesome Crowlers, which are essentially growlers but in can format. They do a ton of events, and are a great example of a sustainable business that is community-focused. They have a huge space for groups, and nice outdoor seating. Great addition with the board games too!
We liked the decor. 32oz cans to go cost $10 but really neat to watch them cap and seal your beer at the bar with small machine. Back room very large but full of toddlers running around.
One of my favorite places in NoDa the staff is great the beer is great. I recommend tasting before buying because they rotate frequently and dont have many if any standard beers they keep all the time. I took my dog here and it was cold they set up tables in the back room just for me! If you dont give this place 5 stars its a you thing.
I love their beer. Super refreshing.
Pretty good beer, decent interior, but I wont be visiting this place often - SO MANY CHILDREN! Its almost like a daycare on the weekend. It should be called Free Range Children. I was there last Saturday, and I counted 24 toddlers running around, squealing, the parents ignoring them to drink some beers. There is even a play area and childrens toys - 10 feet from the bar! Not exactly my idea of a relaxing place to have a beer with friends.
Love this brewery. The the beers are inventive and service is always great. The decor is sustainable and design of the place is great. Food truck is always outside. Tried the Long Ride Home and enjoyed it.
Great variety of beer choices. Awesome Possum was a nicely hopped IPA and an easy day drinker.
Beers are pretty good and we loved he environment and live music.
The beers are OK. If they have them in stock, that is. Was there for music today (David Childers - 4/1/2018). Of the twelve or so beers they had on their menu, five were tapped out. How does that happen AT THE BREWERY? Not the first time Ive been there when the selection was extremely limited. Will not return.
It’s fine. Great place for kids
This brewery is straight fabulous! Their service staff is quick and friendly and their beers are A-MAZ-ING! Jeff and Jason truly provide a welcoming, hospitable atmosphere - which so many establishments lack in this business. The environment is relaxing and fun. My husband and I didnt want to leave at closing time. If you havent tried this spot, definitely put it on your list!
Did I do something wrong? Only thing I wanted was my check tonight and I got a eye roll from the male employee behind the bar. Didnt catch his name but he was about maybe 510 to 6 feet tall with curly brown hair and glasses. Solid build. I normally never have a problem. This makes me sad. My friends had to wave down the other employee and she gave me my check. Thanks to her, I felt like I was recognized as a human being... kinda hoping you dont have a problem with black people...I was one of few in there...if not the only one at the time of the incident.
I visited Free Range right when they opened so it was my group of friends and a few other people in the brewery at that time. I loved the beers, the service, and corn hole! Drinking does not make me a better corn hole player, unfortunately.
This is my favorite brewery in Charlotte. They specialize in farmhouse beers and they really excel at those but they also do different styles like IPAs and brown ales which are also fantastic. Staff here is the best too.
Awesome place for an event...The beers were really terrific.
Great bartenders!
Really interesting tap list, a kids play area snacks and a great vibe! Highly recommend
Top notch beers. Every beer was on point for the style and described perfectly on the board. Experimental beers that hit the mark even when not my style
A beautiful taproom and great beers that you arent going to get anywhere else
Very large venue. Has games and good beer. I recommend the cream ale.
Good beer and a great locations. This is a brewery that caters more to families. Lots of kids.
Smokey porter, lots of room and food truck. Not too loud.
Great small batch beers. As one of the least well known breweries in Charlotte, this is a hidden gem for beer lovers.
Wicked cool place. Small brewery that focuses on localy produced products as well as being community oriented. If youre thinking about coming by to give them a shot, dont hesistate. The atmosphere is open and you can see where they make the beer only a couple of feet from the bar!
Love this place! Best crafted beers in Charlotte
This place has some really great non-alcoholic beverages for those who dont want to drink but still want to hangout and enjoy the brewery with friends. Really nice staff as well!
Great place to chill and have a well crafted beer.
Excellent creative beers. Cold brew coffee on tap too. And refreshing non-alcoholic options, a rotating shrub and kombucha. Food trucks too. Instagram has updates on live bands and events.
Fantastic brewery. I love the space and the atmosphere here, but I also love the way this brewery explores beer. Theyre not afraid to try new flavors or new methods (dry hopping a beer with juniper berries and tips? crazy, but it works) and their boldness shows in a beer lineup thats big on flavor. A bonus: they have several non-alcoholic drinks on draft. Try the cold-brew coffee on nitro, the Kombucha, or the shrub, a tart soda that makes use of this oft-overlooked drink component.
So while Im not usually one for hops and will as a result I tend to stay away from IPAs. Not Last tonight though and Free Range Brewings Campfire black IPA featured for their partnership event The great indoors with Mass Casa and The Crock. This Smokey IPA is bold and flavorful with a malty hops kick that will certainly knock you on your butt. Jeffs Breaktime was the other highlight and the nights favorite with its nutty bouquet and smooth malt-coffee notes and a touch o chocolate finish in a perfectly smooth balance that I have not had since our time in Montreal.Edit 1/14/17: They are still getting better. Go ow and if you are fortunate enough you ca try the new We Knead Each Other sourdough IPA. This new partnership brew is mild on the bitterness of a typical IPA, but so full of flavors! A new personal favorite that mixes sweet and sour into a wonderfully yeasty beer.
Awesome brews and good people! Definitely glad I visited.
Family friendly. Good beer.
Great place to grab a drink.
Fantastic atmosphere and great tasting beers.
Still favorite of the local breweries. The friendliest staff along with wide variety of beers with styles and ingredients that nobody else does.
Great for local brews Awesome atmosphere and loved the board games!
Really great variety of beers in a very decent taproom.
Cool spot. They can 32s on the spot, thats awesome.
Good beer, but could improve on the snack food.
Lovely staff, awesome atmosphere.
Love the ambience and the Cream Ale.
Best beer in Charlotte. Love the staff.
Loved their kombucha and yoga classes!
Excellent beer, though the taproom can be pretty loud, so its not exactly a cozy environment. The selection is worth it, though.
Excellent beer and good people!
Good beer, laid back vibe, clean and comfortable.
Very friendly atmosphere
Best beers in Charlotte and a great vibe inside.
Friendly people and good beer
Beer. yes. more.
