The staff at Shadowmoss is wonderful! Theyre friendly, well organized, helpful, and knowledgeable. The pro shop is always well-stocked with everything you need for your game and then some. The attached restaurant/bar is the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat and a drink after to cool off. And recently, my son, who began lessons with Miles Rice is having great success. Hes become more confident in his game and himself which is key! Miles began his career by receiving a degree from the Golf Academy of America and held the title of lead instructor at several locations prior to working at Shadowmoss. He has experience teaching all ages and ability levels including but not limited to those with a large spectrum of physical and mental impairments (which is not easy to find). Selfishly my son and I want to keep him a secret but out of appreciation for his work and time, and for those who are looking for an awesome instructor to begin with, or to perfect their performance I would suggest calling Shadowmoss to book soon before he fills up. Golf has been a saving grace to learn during COVID, so if youve been considering playing give it a go!
Nice clubhouse. Great pro shop full of gear. Reasonable food prices. Courteous staff.Course is a fun layout but it tends to hold moisture for a long time. Fairways are nice. Rough areas are alright but can be thin and dusty. Last time I played half the greens were really nice and the other half had large sections that werent playable. The range: We had to hit off the mats, which was fine because of the recent rain. The mats looked new and gave good feedback. I was really disappointed that there was not one single flag, marker, stake, or anything that would resemble a target. It really threw me off and think that any range should have targets. They also have a short game area near the first tee which I think is very nice to have.
Started a round at 9:30. Was told there was no one in front or behind us for tee times. Caught up to a group of 5 lady golfers at the 3rd hole playing a 5 hour pace. Decided to skip the last hole in the front 9 to go around them and play. The clubhouse gave us the go ahead to do that.We get to the tee box to on hole 10 where we waited for another group. The group of 5 lady golfers came up from behind and started being extremely rude and swearing. The clubhouse came out and told us to go back behind the lady golfers. Said they would break them up to a group of 3 and 2.Come to find out the golfers were members. Needless to say I will not be going back there again.P.S. the green on hole 11 needs work.
So much for southern hospitality! My husband and my two sons went to Shadowmoss Golf Course and were told if the didnt move faster they would be asked to leave! I am so shocked and disappointed by this. A perfect example of pure selfishness and the worst customer service Ive experienced! We will be sure to share this experience with friends that visit Charleston and let them know Shadowmoss is not where you want to go to enjoy a round of golf with your family or friends!
Played here while on vacation and had an overall good experience. Great value for the price! Staff was friendly and the course was fairly well maintain, but they were having some trouble with the greens when I played. Otherwise course was beautiful and pace of play was good. I would come back again when I’m back in town
This might quite literally be one of the worst courses I’ve played. I’ve paid $18 for better courses let alone $53 for this sorry excuse of a course. Definitely not worth it. The greens are not even full greens and are 25% dirt. The fairways are covered in grass clippings. The tee boxes are the same as the rough. Super swampy. Maintenance is rude and doesn’t care if you’re hitting and continues to ride the lawn mower next to you while you’re hitting. Definitely a pass. Just pay a little extra money for a better experience I promise you $53 for this course is not worth it. DO NOT PLAY HERE.
This is a good course at a great price. They are in the process of repairing the greens but everything else is perfect. They are very flexible and are willing to work with schedule changes. I got caught in a rain storm this afternoon and only got to play two holes, they gave me a rain check to come back a later day. I do wish they had yard markers on the range or just a few flags out there. I would recommend this golf course.Shame on the people leaving nasty reviews about the greens. It clearly says on their website that they are in the process of bringing our greens up to par and have provided a discounted rate. What if you were in the process of making your business better?? 7H1NK 4B0U7 17!
Staff is great. Course is in really good shape (a number of Greens are under repair, but are looking almost like they will be playable very soon. Always a lot of fun to play.
Great golf course. Very friendly workers.
So I have golfed her probably 10 times over the years. Its has never been in worse shape than it is now. The greens are absolute trash, the bunkers are either flooded or hard as a rock, and its not any cheaper than the other courses in the area. It is $49 for 18. No discounts for the condition of the course either. Just overall disappointedI went inside at the turn to get two hotdogs. One for me, one for a friend...they charged me almost $9. For 2 hotdogs. Basic hotdogs. Nothing special. Felt ripped off. Wont be back for the forseable future. Go anywhere else around Charleston and you will get your moneys worth more than Shadowmoss. Such a joke
A few greens are under repair. Decent track but is a bit expensive for what it is, in my opinion.
Great staff. Clean . Nice course. Clean and grest
Very bad shape right now, normally a nice course, with exception of the tee boxes. The greens are pretty much all dirt right now, hopefully they get it fixed soon, usually a fun course
Enjoyed a nice range day here. $6 for a basket of balls, wish they listed out how far the flags were (perhaps I missed it), but all in all a fair range to hit some balls. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The chip and put practice areas were very well taken care of. The club bar was very nice and well stocked, was a great way to end the day.
The course is well maintained and the staff is friendly and professional. The greens are not in the best condition right now which is why I graded 4 stars.
Played on May 29, 2019. Good layout and design. Enjoyable. Fairways and greens were in great shape. The guys in the clubhouse at check-in were very helpful. Played with my 11 year old son and they were very accommodating to a junior player. Cant say that about all courses we have played. Would play this course again.
Horrible course very run down
Round of golf for $20, nice day, but 4 of the greens were being refurbished so they had a little fake hole in front
Cigarette butts everywhere on the course! I am a smoker too but please dont do that !Also terrible dry greens.
For reference-I live in Charleston and have played every local course many times, including Shadowmoss. Overall the course is good. JP, the head golf pro, is very friendly and knowledgeable. The clubhouse staff and food/beverage staff is very friendly as well! Shadowmoss is fairly priced for both golf and food and beverage. Their practice green and practice bunker/chipping area are always in great shape. The course itself is maintained well. I don’t suggest playing a round of golf after a rain storm because parts of the course take a few days to fully drain. The course is not un-playable after rain, but you just have to accept the fact that a few holes will be very soggy. The rangers are the only consistent problem with Shadowmoss. To be blunt, the rangers are absolutely useless- especially in the afternoon and on the back 9. It appears that the rangers “go off the clock” around 3:30 or 4pm. Other courses in the area will have constant ranger presence until the last group has finished for the day. At Shadowmoss, you’ll always see the rangers in and around the clubhouse, but they will not be maintaining pace of play. During your round you might see a ranger once, twice at most. But even if they do come around, all they will do is drive right by. I played on 05/18/19 and our round took between 5- 6 hours because of the group in front of us. The four players in front of my group had 3 holes open ahead of them and slowed the entire day down for everyone. My group politely asked if we could play through as they were a much slower group and we were told no. We waited for a ranger to make a round, but seeing how our round started at 2:20pm we had a better chance of seeing Tiger Woods on the course compared to seeing a ranger. You can call the clubhouse and ask them to send a ranger out, which we did, and sometimes a ranger will come out. However, sometimes the ranger will not go out.Lastly I’d like to reiterate that this review is based upon several rounds of golf at Shadowmoss, not one bad experience. At the end of the day the positives outweigh the negatives, but the rangers need to be held accountable or hire new ones that actually will do their job.
Great golf course to play if youre in the Charleston area. A little bit of a drive from where we were staying, but would make the trip again. Good layout, conditions were great as well. Will play again next time were in Charleston.
Very accommodating ! overall an excellent experience .
Im not a golfer. But it is a nice course. Surrounded by beautiful swamp land and homes. Here you can play golf as well as see all types of wildlife. And YES there are gators here as well.
Was very slow and greens suck
GREAT golf course and staff
Played Shadow moss for the first time today, the fairways and bunkers were in excellent condition some of the greens were in rough shape as were the tee boxes. The green fees were the lowest I found in the Charleston area $40 was the quoted rate but they only charged me $31. Had breakfast before my round service was quick and the food was good. Well equipped pro shop and all the staff I had contact with were very nice. Overall a nice round of golf at a nice course.
Really enjoyed the location.
Loved this golf course! Played with my two sons. I am a Northerner and play a lot of SC & NC golf. Superb hospitality very friendly staff the course is your typical Plantation course very similar to the Lowcountry courses in Litchfield. Dog legs, some water, will test your game. If you’re looking for a fun, reasonable round this is the track! Oh and the cafe hit it out of the park! Have the chili dogs
Tried to go golfing here and never had such a bad experience with customer service. The cashier was rude and when I asked for a refund or even a pass to play another day due to the fact I forgot my golf clubs, I was offered nothing and treated terribly. Never coming here again. I do not advise!!!!!
Great course, friendly staff, completed 16/18 starting around 3pm. Greens were in great condition for the winter months. I would go back for sure!
Played on a Sunday afternoon. Pretty busy. Course in good shape. Friendly staff. No complaints.
We enjoy golfing at Shadowmoss Plantation Golf. The course is great for the recreational golfer and is always well maintained. The staff are great to work with and readily accommodate our tee time requests.
My brother brought a home near the plantation, theres a bicycle path throughout the neighborhood and have to go through trail. And at 77 degrees where Im from in weirton,w.va & 7 below when I left on a train, this was nice. Beautiful plantation with the mossy trees hundreds of years old a sight to see, warm in the winter here I will be moving here soon as I can, a have to see for sure...
I have a few things to share. First, the staff are lovely and helpful. The bar/grill folks are equally so. Second, I paid $38 for 18 holes on a Friday morning. Thats a great deal. I had the first tee time and got to play without anyone in front and only a single a few holes behind, so I have no complaints there. When I left, it looked quite crowded with people stacked up at tee boxes. Lastly, the course is nicely laid out but tee boxes were pretty rough and given the early point in the season, the rough was dormant and well, rough. The best part of the course is the fairways which were in outstanding condition and the greens which were quick.
Good bar and restaurant nicely stocked pro shop. Nicely laid out course well taken care of
Great Burger, best tater tots anywhere, I know thats an odd endorsement but they are good. Great staff friendly and happy to help.
Went here with my friends and it was a great time. Price was good and they did a brunch that was good too. Solid course, not too hard but challenging enough.
Very nice place to have lunch. Im not a golfer, but I understand it is a very nice course. The accountant is very friendly guy. The ladies behind the bar are awesome. Cheryll is the one I know the best.
Shadowmoss Plantation commands a solid reputation with both local and visiting golfers alike. Capable of testing the best players while featuring design characteristics to make it playable for all golfers. Breeden used the natural surroundings and a mosaic of ponds and streams to create an attractive setting with several water hazards.
The pros: The chipping area and putting green are large enough and offer good practice opportunity. The holes have variety are require differently shaped shots. Bunkers are usually groomed nicely unless it has rained recently. I would give the course 3 stars and the practice area 3.5 stars. Looks like a revamped clubhouse is coming soon too which will be neat to see. Always have the golf channel on so it is great to come in and cool off with a snack.Cons: Staff pulled flags in front of us on several occasions. Carts from nearby houses are constantly driving up and down the cartpath by your fairway or green. They charge non members a cart fee even if they want to walk, there is no college rate or military rate. The clubhouse patio is often filled with drunken players shouting obscenities and derogatory comments. Staff needs to boot these type of people out. I understand that they bring in money, but have some integrity regarding the type of people you let golf at your course.
This course was in very poor condition at best. There was hardly any grass on any of the tees. The practice area looked as if no maintenance had been done on the ground in months. The hitting areas on the practice tee had very little grass. Most of the areas still had the divot marks and were not filled with sand or repaired with soil, this includes the areas that had been used on previous days. Most of the traps had water in them and the ones that didnt have water, had mud in most of it. Where there was sand it the trap, it was very little. The staff was less than helpful. We had to load our own bags onto the cart while one of the cart guys stood within 10 feet of us watching us. My wife lost her balance carrying her bag when she stepped onto the curb to put her bag onto the cart. The cart guy made no comment or any offer to help her. The green fee charged, $53, was not worth it. I have played probably a hundred courses or more throughout the US and this one rates at the bottom.
Course was not crowded but those playing were slow. Course was VERY soggy. Beautiful day and great friend to play with made it a pleasant golf round.
When to the snack bar on Thursday Ask if I could get a pimento cheese sandwich. Woman behind the counter said no, they have bought them for the member guest this weekend. Are you kidding me? Don’t think I’m gonna go back
Greens in great shape and well tended to. Plenty of water on the course. Friendly marshalls who monitor slow play. Sznd traps have only a few inches of sand before you hit hard clay. Golf shack and grill were very nice with nice folks to address your concerns.
Great course. glad i was able to play here.
Back in the day it wasnt so busy and great place to drink and hit some balls. But yet still a great place and alil busier which is good because we support locals. Thank you tourist keep it going!
Great golf course. Call ahead to see how much rain they have gotten. Its an older course so drainage is a issue. Would definitely play again
The nice thing about golf courses that take care of their greens, is that when they (most of them) aerate their grounds, they provide discounts on fees for a period of time. This was the case on Sunday morning. Honestly, my golfing isnt good enough to be affected by aeration or not, so being able to play at a discounted rate is all the more reason to golf here. Check-in was quick and easy, as was the access to the golf carts. We started on hole #10 and finished on hole #9, and only had to skip one hole (#8) because of thunder and lightning, which was getting closer and closer. Well blame my last few shots on the static buildup in my club shafts. Overall we all had a fun experience, and the clubhouse had a buffet which we all enjoyed after our round for just under $10. Ill definitely be back.
My dad played golf here. Very friendly staff. Great sense of club community.
One of my favorite courses in Charleston. The staff does a great job maintaining the course and making sure play is up to speed. The bar and food are decently priced and the staff is always helpful and friendly.
Nice golf course however gets pretty wet and stays that way too long
Great golf course come and play you will enjoy it !
Okay golf course at a very reasonable price. Do not play if it has been raining because it has terrible drainage.
Golf course is good shape even with the over seeded areas and greens.
Our whole group enjoyed this round of golf a lot. Keep up the good work.
I agree with Jamie Merrit. For the course to be in the shape it was in, the rate shouldve been discounted. Its a descent course usually but its not usually a $50 course. Ill go back of the issues are fixed but not at that price. I can play other courses that are in way better shape for less.
Serves good food. Breakfast all day.
I enjoy golfing here but the driving range is too small to use a driver.
We played there this past Sunday, now I know we have had a lot of rain, but to charge 50.00 and have your course in that kind of shape is ridiculous. Tee boxes either not cut or dirt, large holes in fairways, no drainage, just terrible, like I said I understand we have had our share of rain, but to expensive for the shape its in. Adjust the rate accordingly. Used to be one of my favorites to play and hadnt played it in a while since I moved to Summerville, wont be going back.
COURSE IS IN GREAT SHAPE. REMODELED CLUB HOUSE LOOKS GREAT. BAR/GRILL OFFERS A GREAT TIME AND CHEAP DRINKS
Great place to play a round or two of golf that isnt too expensive
Great golf course with wonder staff. Played here many times, even with the flood in October and a wet winter. The course is in great shape.
Nice course. Good value.
Only complaint is the condition of the greens. Ongoing problem.
It has a club house that serves food and brunch on Sunday. The course is well kept, driving range next to club house. There is a pool
Best place to meet people and play golf. Always something going on.
Good course. Gets crowded on the weekends. Cart girl was out on a Wednesday. 6,300 from the whites.
Decent place. The service is good and the food is about what would be expected with a fair flavor.
Cool course, great for beginners and awesome for avid golfers, open year round
Great, friendly. Warm atmosphere
Great golf, fantastic clubhouse.
A good course to test your game!
Ranger was a jerk. No one was behind us and he rudely told us to play faster for no reason. We were playing at a normal pace. He could have been nicer. But it ruined our round. Ive never rated anyone but felt the need to do this
Great people and a fun place to golf.
Love to go hang out wit my sis
Pretty good course for the money. Ive played a few times and its always about the same condition. The staff is friendly.
Great price friendly people easy to get a tee time things are great some some cutting service need a little work for the price you cant beat it
Nice variations in the holes on the course. Good price.
Great time good golf course ! Nice people !
Fun course. Not overly difficult, but does make you use every club.
Played as single during slow part of early afternoon. 1:30pm. 11 Green in terrible condition. Rest of course spotty, but okay for senior 9 hole fee of $20.
Ive been to this course several times. The positives: inexpensive and many varied holes. 18 is a pisser. The negatives: it is not a high end club. While not as nice as Stono its half the cost. Its better than the Muni. While the weather can cause havoc with the fairways the greens have always been in fairly good shape. The staff is pleasant and the people with whom I have played have all been very nice.
Been there once. Decent. Not too difficult.
Not a high end club but a great course and especially the price. As a bonus, if you live in the neighborhood you can usually get an even better deal.
Enjoyed the day playing golf and a chili tasting too.
Fun course and fair course. Always in great condition.
Very good service, (nice people and accommodating)
Driving range is a little bit of a joke, its close so I go three times a week. Called ahead to let them know that at the very latest I would be one or two minutes past 6:45(when the close the pro shop). I asked him since I am a frequent customer could he just make sure that even if I am 1 minute...literally 1 minute late.....would he make sure I have two buckets of balls and I will have cash when I get there. He asked if I was a member and then told me he could not help me??? He said that the computer automatically shuts down at 6:45(little bit random but MAYBE he is telling the truth)....however if I would have said yes I am a member the register would not automatically be shutdown by there computer system??? I am in customer service and just dont ever understand how someone can feel this way about there job or the customers they have to interact with...PURE LAZINESS is all it was. I still play rounds there and go to the driving range because the rice is very affordable...and even though a bunch of people speak negatively about the course...for the money it is one of the better buys in Charleston! Just dont ask anyone in the proshop to go above and beyond for you hahah!........REALLY....1 minute???....luckily I got there 3 minutes early and he could not refuse my money then. This review would have been much worse if they had.
For 35 dollars you can find much better courses in Charleston .Update, gave it another go and was still underwhelming
Best value in low country Course layout is circular with no adjacent fairways Bar and grill friendly atmosphere with reasonable pricing
Nice course very inexpensive senior and veterans discount
Good course to play.
Nice course, friendly staffs. These are all we need for the mood of playing golf!
Course looks ok but alot of trash all over
Cheap price, but in rough shape
A few greens were battling fungus, other than that course was in ok shape
Beautiful and warm, friendly residents ️
Good course great price
