This place is quiet, charming and really nice to be there. Quick and pleasant service with great products, (books and coffee) perfect cocktail. I can stay there for hours.
When you walk in, the sights, sounds, & smells are enchanting. From the cozy nooks to the nostalgic aroma of books, Taylor Books is a captivating experience, engaging your imagination, cogitation, and aspiration.Visit Taylor Books and be transported to another world, via books, pottery, art, and drinks.
This is not only a unique book store its also a well known coffee place that Charlestonians hang out.I would say this is the most popular place for people to visit with friends and have a cuppa. The decor is unique, inviting and a great atmosphere for all individuals. There are many items other than books and coffee at Taylors.Such as baked goods, lunch items, greeting cards and fantastic finger puppets. If your in the Charleston area don’t miss out on this Book and Coffee Haven.
Of all of the places I love to visit in Charleston, this is my favorite. This is a really cool place to hang out, to discover a new reading passion, just ask the knowledgeable clerks, they know their stuff, or to simply de stress... and let me tell you, the atmosphere WILL de-stress you.To put it simply: Art, books, coffee and community. This place will not leave you wanting.
A wonderful small bookshop experience. Lots of cozy nooks and seating, eclectic furniture and features, very interesting used books section, kids section has been a big hit with our kids for years, and recently beer wine and pastry items make this a great hangout for those seeking intellectual challenge and company.
Taylor Books is definitely the best bookstore and café in downtown Charleston, West Virginia. It occupies a large groundfloor space at 226 Capitol Street, and the popular place is divided into three distinct areas: books, café and the art gallery. You can also find and purchase any of numerous gift items, magazines and greeting cards. This bookstore attracts a steady flow of residents, tourists, students and workers from area businesses. On Fridays and Saturdays in the evenings Taylor Books’ theater shows films, downstairs, and several times each month talks and lectures are given. You may order delicious freshly made soups, chili, sandwiches, salads, saumon fumé and various homemade cakes. Beers and domestic wines are also sold. The several seating areas at Taylor Books include a comfortable leather sofa and chair, a curved booth, a few benches and ten small round tables with chairs. There is also a small wooden conference table with several chairs where some people sit while enjoying their food and drinks and using their laptop computer, iPad or telephone. The WiFi is always strong and reliable. You will find people come here daily to eat, enjoy various coffees and teas, and work or relax. If you order coffee in a mug, you can request two or three free refills. Why go to a Starbucks when a Taylor Books is so much better? My brother frequents Taylor Books every other day. He meets and greets his friends and various acquaintances as well as the always-polite, efficient and friendly staff. It is a very popular place downtown and you will meet all sorts of interesting people.Honestly, I do not know what I would have done while visiting Charleston for five weeks without this wonderful place. It is a real treasure. Thank God (and the English owner) for Taylor Books! I do not usually give five stars for my reviews, but Taylor Books really deserves to be rated five stars. It is truly a rare gem.
Cute little coffee and book store right downtown! Had an iced coffee and it was delicious. Will definitely come back here to study.
Cute bookshop with new, used, and super cheap sections. They have a coffee shop that I havent tried but smells amazing. But the really neat thing is the art show that changes out often on one side of the store. Friendly staff.
Taylor Books is a cute lil bookstore + coffee. They’ve got some dope bumper stickers and the interior is cool.
I love Bagel, Cream Cheese, Lox for an early breakfast. With a Lemon Square and a CRAZY WHITE GIRL, Or Emerald Isle. Their White Hot Cocoas are delicious. Also Milky Way Blast(cold with whipped cream)for a summer afternoon pick me up. And Wildberry Smoothies
God. I love this place. Bring in your own ceramic or travel mug and get the price of your coffee at any size at a small. Good vibes ️
Great spot. Tasty food. Convenient location
I will be making the drive from Athens, Ohio for this book store and the impeccable clerk, Dan, whenever possible. This spot is a gem.
Great place to unwind, relax, drink coffee and read / buy a good book
Ive never been to Taylor Books, though Ive lived 41 of my 45 years in Charleston (I dont like trying to park downtown). Im glad I went though. They have a large selection of books and a little art gallery. I went for their open-mic night and listened to some wonderful poets, storytellers, a musician, and a comic to cap off the evening. Had a lovely time and will definitely be back...when I feel brave enough to face parking downtown again.
Great place to stop by and have a coffee, beer or whatever. They also have great cakes and pies. The art gallery and theater are cool. Oh yeah, books
One of my favorite ways to spend a couple hours in Charleston, WV. New and used books, great coffee, local artwork, and oftentimes, live music! Great place to hang out with a friend or have some time to myself.
Lovely book shop! A little coffee shop makes it the perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon! Places like this are getting rare, so i love to support them whenever i can!
Fun place! Great selection of books and the store has a small art gallery in it. Had brunch and did some shopping with a friend and had great time. Really nice vibe and good coffee. They sell wine and cider too so that was also a plus :)
Its a chill small business spot where you can grab some Java, buy a book, relax in a comfortable chair reading it. Free wifi and lots of great art and quirky knick knacks
Wonderfully charming local book shop and cafe!Taylor Books is an awesome spot to grab a coffee, tea, beer or wine (depending on the tone of day) and peruse their varied selection of critically acclaimed authors and titles as well as many publications by local authors or about WV related topics. Many evenings youll find live (mostly acoustic) music in the cafe, which is always a treat. When you stop in, dont forget to check out the art gallery connected to the book store on the opposite side of the cafe! It showcases many of the areas best local artists.
Great local bookstore, coffee shop, and art studio.
I use the Cafe mostly and the food and coffee is awesome. I really enjoy talking to the baristas, and if you bring your own Coffee Thermos or Mug they will fill it for the price of a small :) I would recommend any of their daily soups, and my favorite scone is the cheese and dill. This is a great little shop. Charleston wouldnt be the same without them.
Amazing atmosphere! Love the combination of bookstore, coffee shop, art gallery and performances space. Whenever I visit Charleston WV I make a point to visit this place.
Great local business, with an unparalleled selection of magazines. Interesting books are plentiful. The cafe side has good service with a variety of options.
Great coffee, staff, and overall book store!
Best hot cocoa anywhere
A fantastically Cultured place full of Art, Literature, and Over priced coffee. A perfect spot for any Basic Date.
Great combo book store/ coffee shop/ art studio. Book selection is good they can order you anything just have patience. Some really nice pottery that is made by local artists and also wooden items too. They have nice mixed media paintings and other art pieces you can buy. Located in a nice older part of town. The coffee shop had alot of comfy seating. The coffee was well done and the vegetable quiche was nice. A good place to go for Sunday lazy day. Parking is not easy so you might have to walk a bit. Great place definitely go here.
Our favourite local bookstore! They carry several unique titles and gifts, and their used book selection and prices cant be beat!
Great place! Just as pricey though as starbucks for the coffee and food. Amazing selection of books and there is an art gallery! Great to take the kids to.
Nice book store with all the necesary. Check the art gallery have some cool stuff.
Excellent beverage! Nice atmosphere.
A great place to relax and enjoy a book or to grab a quick cup of coffee on your way to the office. Taylor Books offers a wide range of books and magazines as well as local art work and a coffee shop menu. The atmosphere is laid back and the store is the defacto center of the Capitol Street business district. If youre visiting Charleston for the first time, I highly suggest going by Taylors and taking a look around.
I love a good bookstore. This place always has a wonderful selection. But my favorite parts are the coffee shop and the art. The coffee shop has delightful beverages and pastries. And the art on display is incredibly unique and most of it is reasonably priced. This is a stop we always make when in Charleston.
A lovely book store and coffee shop. They have a mix of the newer books and older ones. The staff was friendly and the prices were fair. If I lived closer I would definitely make this a regular stop.
Good selection of books. Nice staff. Great coffee shop
One of the best independent bookstores Ive had the pleasure of being in recently. The ambiance is all old-school and hardwood, the selection is healthy and laid out in a tasteful manner-there is a pretty nice in-store coffee shop along with an art gallery and underground single-screen movie theater that plays independent films. Prices vary for the books, knick-knacks, and art so depending on what it is can be cheap or fairly high. And the people working there are ridiculously helpful and pleasant so if youre ever in town should definitely stop by and walk on through Oh, and they use old paper bags like the book stores from when I was a kid to put your books in
My office away from my office. Simply one of the most eclectic places you’ll visit. Touch of everything.
Awesome place in downtown Charleston to visit. The coffee is good. There is a good selection of new books. And used books are a bit of a treasure hunt, which makes for a little adventure.
This is my all-time favorite bookstore and coffee shop. The staff has always been friendly, the coffee is good, there is always a fun mix of odds and ends for sale, and Ive gotten some great books from their selections. Their gallery also always has amazing exhibits so be sure to check it out as well
Ive been coming on and off the Taylor books for years I love the entertainment on the weekends Friday and Saturday night and its a great place to chill and drink coffee or whatever and have great conversations that people you know
A great bookstore, art gallery, music venue, movie theater, coffee shop, and bar. The audience is always very supportive at open mic night.
Taylor books is a great place to stop in and relax. They have a large selection of books and a cozy coffee bar with some baked goods as well. They have an inviting and calming atmosphere.
This was my first experience was them, but my first impression was not a good one. My friends and I were trying to book tickets to a concert featuring a family friend of ours. We called at the earliest available time to book tickets, yet were not able to get them. Not only that, we also encountered very poor customer service. Would not recommend
It was very interesting to browse all the books, pottery, and Blinko. Found several unique gifts. A lot of fun.
Such a great store! If I lived here, theyd get so much of my money! Great, somewhat curated selection. Cuddy and inviting staff. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. A total gem.
What a fun find on our way home from Massachusetts to Texas. This is a combination coffee house, book store and an art gallery. The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed looking at all the different books (both new and used) throughout the store. One employee had a Texas connection (he was wearing a Texas State sweatshirt) which made for fun conversation. If you are looking for a fun place to visit, this is the place.
Nice layout good selection of books and customer service is great without being pushy. I really enjoyed my visit will be going back often
One of my favorite book stores! Wonderful staff, lovely music nights, delicious drinks and food, amazing selection of books, magazines, art, and even toys!
Great place to unwind, get some coffee and explore a new book.
Taylor Books is a grand place to meet a friend and have a coffee or to buy a trinket for a family member back home. I completely enjoyed my time at Taylor Books, and I would recommend it to everyone who enjoys old style service.
What a fun gem hidden in the Capital City. A must see when visiting.
Great coffee. Fresh ideas. Lavender Earl grey scone.... What?!?! Keep it up.
Great coffee! And nice workers
Great place to grab a couple cups of coffee and a good book. Staff is wonderful and very helpful. Check out the used book room. You may be surprised at what you might find.
Great vibe! Nice coffee selection, book store with places to sit and read, some very cool novelties and an art gallery to peruse and purchase.
Taylor books is a great place to shop. It has a wonderful selection of books and a place to relax.
This place is an independent bookseller. Great atmosphere. Helpful staff.
Great bookstore, the used book section is especially good.
Everything you could want in an independently owned bookstore. Beyond books there is local art, live music and a small movie theater. They serve beer and wine in addition to coffee. In the heart of the Charleston, WVs historical downtown. Dont miss Ellens ice cream just across the street!
The food and coffee is wonderful as well as the atmosphere! My only complaint is the wobly tables that make not spilling your coffee a great challenge. There are three metal tables that are pretty sound, but other than that, be careful to not suddenly rest your hands on the table! Spilling the drink is a bit discouraging, otherwise, I could give 5 stars!
Everything was perfect until I watched the barista take out the trash and return to making drinks without washing their hands.
Its a relaxing atmosphere to meet up with friends and have a cup of coffee or tea. Some evenings there is live entertainment and, of course, there is also a wide selection of books and magazines.
I really liked the vibe immediately upon entering. Went to order coffee and the gentleman taking the order was great. The lady making it was a real shrew. Snappy and churlish. I will not buy coffee here again.
Really matches the towns slogan: hip, historic, almost heaven. Interesting books, art shows, inexpensive second-hand books in the back, and a cool coffee shop. If you go to Charleston, you have to stop here.
Love the art and rustic industrial decor. Great place to find unusual treasures of all kinds.
Perfect spot for coffee, art, books (and a movie theatre)
Awesome place to shop, grab a cup of coffee, or a snack. Awesome environment.
Great atmosphere. This is much more than just a bookstore. They have new and used books, of course, but they also have a theater, an art gallery, and a coffee shop. The people here are laid back and make it a wonderful place to spend some time downtown.
The worker at the cafe was incredibly rude. We asked what types of cakes were in the glass case and he responded with it is cake. We blindly ordered a few going on looks alone. He took our orders and charged us then gossiped with the barista about a coworker for 10 minutes while we awkwardly stood there waiting for him. When he finally got the boxes to put our cakes in he grabbed the wrong flavors. We let him know and he yelled at us saying I couldnt see what you were pointing at when you ordered. Great, well if there had been descriptions or names on the cake flavors we wouldnt have needed to point. Or if you had let us know that you couldnt see we could have described them to you. The cakes werent bad (hence 2 stars instead of 1) but definitely not worth the frustration it took to order them with such a rude employee.
Love this bookstore. Found some old books you wont find anywhere else.
Nice enviroment, great books, and amazing coffee!
Love this local gem located right in the center of downtown Charleston!
Very friendly staff. Both in the cafe and the bookstore. What makes a rainy evening better than a hot mocha, good music and a warm atmosphere. A good place for meet ups with people or just working.
Excellent coffee and ambiance! Its a great, quiet place for good coffee and a read
Charleston is very lucky to have this coffee and casual food place.
Friendly staff and great atmosphere
My favorite place to visit in Charleston. This is a great place to study, and the coffee is great. Another great feature is the live music. They serve beer and wine as well, so grabbing a drink and listening to the live music is a perfect weekend activity.
We spend a night in Charleston on our trips from NC to Ohio. We always start our second travel day with a stop at Taylor Books for coffee and to shop. The cafe is excellent with tasty drinks at a good price. The store has a nice selection of books, gifts, and stationery. I love being able to support an independent store like this.
So cute and cozy!
I love love love this bookstore. It has a chill hipster vibe. A lot to choose from and ask questions about. It has a place to show local crafts and very helpful staff, whom are friendly and nice. I was assisted with no problem and did not have to wait no time. Thanks yall I would definitely recommend it to anyone
I love the atmosphere. Taylor book has not only new books, but it incorporates used books, local artisans works, as well as, local craft beers and coffee.
Great coffee, wonderful scones, nice artwork & fun atmosphere!
This is a phenomenal shop that has only gotten better over the years. It has become a staple of Capital Street. If you havent tried it, youre missing out!
This place has the best selection of books for the best prices. Plus, they have a coffee shop right in the store. You can shoot and read, or listen to music, and have a coffee without having to go to different places. Id recommend this place to everyone (and I do).
Such an inviting place with many books, coffee, and snacks.
When you are in Charleston this is a must. Great place to shop and have a good beverage.
Its fine, the food is good. Service is what youd expect - a lot of angsty hipsters talking loudly and self-consciously about things they likely borrowed from Tumblr. Support local businesses and try not to get too annoyed at the 20-somethings vying for the coolest and woke-est while they make your coffee and roll their eyes when you ask what the hell the cutesy names of the drinks mean You know what youre in for.
Love this place
Book store + coffee shop. Milky way latte was delicious and the staff were friendly. They forgot to call out my drink but it was still piping hot and they were apologetic anyway. Going back soon for sure.
Best independent book store around. Great magazine selection, new and used books.
Friendly cozy environment. Great coffee, sweets and savories. Excellent place to meet up with friends for conversation or solo for reading. Music most Friday and Saturday evenings. BONUS- very nice selection of reasonable priced wine and local craft beer
Great atmosphere, Varied book & publication offering, art/creative gallery & coffee shop with occasional live music. Nifty place
This bustling store has it all; books, coffee and snacks, entertainment and an amazing staff.
Great space for a coffee and conversation.
They have sokalata desserts now. I asked which on the far bottom left was and instead of opening his side to check he went back and forth in a short manner saying he cant see which one Im talking about. It was awkward and frustrating.
Fantastic book store with great coffee shop!
What a sweet spot.Im not sure I would have found it but the hotel front desk staff directed me there when I asked for coffee and a bookstore. They were open at 7am!! Great time hanging out there.
Excellent plave to get coffee, books. Great entertainment from local musicians free.
