I love this place! Food is always great. I’ve never had a bad experience and I’ve been eating here for year! Everyone I recommend to go, loves it and thanks me later!!
Worst food I ever had the displeasure of being served. The only thing worse was the service. Don’t wast your money!
Very hip joint! Live music. Cool art for sale on the walls and an awesome selection of cocktails! Our server had us laughing and enjoying ourselves while doing her job very well. The food all came out beautifully. A unique menu that changes frequently. Looking forward to another visit
Great restaurant in Charleston that is perfect for visitors to the city. Many of the ingredients used are locally grown, raised, and processed. The food tastes wonderful and the restaurant is decorated with work from local artists. Often there is live music to help set the relaxed environment. A gem for the city!
I visited Bluegrass Kitchen for the second time a few days ago and I havent been disappointed either time. Its a wonderful little local joint with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The menu has a wide variety of dishes to choose from and they change it up every once in a while so youll have some new things to try from time to time. During my first visit in January, I got the poutine and I loved it. Unfortunately, they had taken the poutine off the menu before my recent visit (the bartender told me theres a possibility they could bring it back since its such a popular dish), so this time I got their mac and cheese and french fries. The fries were good, as always, and the mac and cheese was to die for. The rich, creamy cheese sauce took it over the top. I highly recommend Bluegrass Kitchen.
I like this restaurant. The service is always good and the food never disappoints. I had dinner here with my partner on a recent Friday eve. Jeff had the pork chops with sweet mashed potatoes and asparagus and liked it very much. I had the fish and chips which were served hot and delicious and a very good spinach salad with fresh vegetables, warm bacon and strawberry vinaigrette- yum!
Had brunch with a friend last weekend and it was AMAZING. My Bloody Mary was well made, and the shrimp and grits was a delicious and hearty portion. I tried it with the potato pancake instead of the poached egg and it was great. The restaurant had a nice, eclectic vibe and the big open windows in the back near my seat let in good natural light. Great place to go on a Sunday afternoon.
Food and service is always top notch. Definitely one of our favorite restaurants. Love the atmosphere. Wine and beer selection is also very good. Highly recommend.
This is my favorite restaurant! We are from Sharon, Pa and this restaurant is sooo worth going to! Their attention to detail and service is outstanding, a true culinary gem in Charleston, West Virginia. Breakfast or Lunch, both are excellent, service is excellent, their so good, be prepared to wait for a table for Sunday Brunch. The atmosphere is hip with bluegrass bands on the weekend! A must stop when your in town!
My fiancee and I found this spot through Yelp while driving through West Virginia on our way to Florida. Its super cute and feels very homey. They are reasonably priced (less than $30 for 2 meals). You can tell they support local artists as there were flyers and artwork covering the walls. If I lived in Charleston, this would definitely be a regular spo .
Bluegrass Kitchen is our family’s go-to Charleston restaurant. We love the seasonal menu and specials. Our daughter loves the vegan options. The atmosphere is quirky and warm. The food is delicious and there is often live local music.
This is a charming, hippie-chic spot, with outstanding food, and occasionally interesting love music. The live music is not in the main dining area, so the noise from that isnt too bad, but I would love it if theyd find just a few sound absorbing tiles to quiet the noise of conversation during the meal. With that complaint out of the way, I still recommend BGK unequivocally because of the outstanding food. The shrimp and grits I had for lunch were simply delicious, and the corned beef and hash got good reviews at our table also.
Home made chips were amazing and fresh made. The hamburger was no frozen patty and tasty especially with the pimento cheese. The ambiance was great. We were welcomed by great employees and a great server, Rose. Not from the area, but will come back every time Im in the area. Thanks for the experience guys!
The service is great and staff is very hospitable. Great place with good live music. The artwork is a nice accent, and overall the atmosphere is casual while the food is that of a high-end eatery. I would recommend it if you’re in the area, whether looking for a quick lunch or hosting an event.
Brunch is good. Lunch is good as well. Nice people. Love that it’s on the east end of Charleston. They make great drinks
Wow. I loved my Vegetarian Burger. The place was soo interesting and informative. Postings for all the concerts in the area. Beautiful decor that fit the theme. I had a gin and tonic that was great and they have a wonderful selection of drinks to choose from. I definitely am putting this one on the must do when in Charleston list . I loved that the whole staff was friendly and helpful but not intrusive.
Great service & friendly staff. High quality food. Excellent daily specials!
Came here after my friend’s graduation at University of Charleston! This spot was awesome! Our server Rose was wonderful and very attentive!
Fantastic food, fun atmosphere, friendly helpful staff, great entertainment. My favorite restaurant in West Virginia. Go there if at all possible. Wish I could give it 10 stars!
Beautiful vibe and delicious big portion plates! Bar tender gets 5 stars for the amazing cocktails.
This place has always been a neighborhood favorite for me and family--weve been going since it opened. Although the menu used to be better when the legendary perfect chicken sandwich reigned (or perhaps Im too nostalgic) this is far and away the best organic and possibly vegetarian/vegan food in Charleston and the half pound hamburger is still awesome. The specials, which change every day, have always been a great option. Seafood is very good for Charleston. The arctic char and PEI mussels are recommended if or when they show up. Get organic sodas with real sugar or lemonade for kids.Service has almost always been great, and I say that as someone who has seen the waitstaff turn over many times across the years. You can buy the art off the walls if interested--pricey as one might expect. Ive never been to the live music, but I know that some fairly interesting local bands are always on offer. The owners are wonderful people. Grab a fortune cookie on your way out.
Food is great, of the non-GMO, locally sourced, organic variety which can be rare to find in West Virginia. Live music is great and the amosphere warm. Lunch is a light crowd, making the experience more personal.
Great brunch, shrimp and grits, potato cakes, corn beef hash fork tender, great service! Only good!
I love the live music here. Food is good and servers are sweet. In here I feel connected to the art side of me which I dont always get to experience in my day to day life. Fair priced and a valued asset.
Great GF options for celiac. Staff very knowledgeable. Food fresh and hot. Great service.
Dinner was amazing. Atmosphere was great. Try the blueberry pie!
The food is always perfect, the service is always welcoming and the vibe is always chill. Highly recommend!
Food was delicious. Serve was great.very friendly workers.will go back again
Yummy brunch food in a neat eclectic style cafe, delicious food, coffee, and desserts, very highly recommend the potatoes skins and blueberry pie! Wait staff was awesome :)
Cute and friendly atmosphere with great food and live music
I went to this place 6 months ago and Im still thinking about what a great meal I had. My boyfriend and I have traveled quite a bit and if this isnt our absolute favorite place that weve ever eaten, then it is certainly top 3. My fish was PERFECTLY cooked. All of the sides were amazing. Desserts were great also. Such a comfortable space to enjoy a meal. Live music... I really cant write a positive enough review.
Represents our East End community, the best of West Virginia, through food, art, and staff.
Wish there was more vegan options, but our waitress was super sweet and the music was lovely in such a cute little town. Glad they use local and sustainable resources, so thank you for that
Super tasty lunch. Jordan is a cool dude who gave us friendly, quick and accommodating service. Good vibes.
I love the live music here. Food is good and servers are sweet. In here I feel connected to the art side of me which I dont always get to experience in my day to day life. Fair priced and a valued asset.
Great food made with fresh, quality ingredients. No schlocky salt-laden Conagra-tasting stuff here.
Nice staff and good drinks. Our food took a long time to come because they were very busy and seemed to only have a couple wait staff. But otherwise a pleasant experience.
Great food, cool little place downtown and a friendly staff. Good choices on tap. We stopped here while traveling from outta State and we were glad we did rather than a corporate place.
AH-mazing. That’s all I’ve got to say about this place.I just moved here from Dallas, and was a little worried about my culinary options in WV.I shouldn’t have been concerned.Bluegrass Kitchen is beyond any dream I could possibly have for a culinary masterpiece. So let’s break it down, shall we?John, the Awesome incredible guy that took care of us gave some great suggestions, and steered us through the menu since we were newbies and he absolutely did no wrong. He was perfect and I am fully planning on adopting him if he’s up for it!We were going to just have one appetizer, but the ladies next to us got the house fries, so we had to do that too. They were delicious. Home made, hot and fresh, with great dipping sauce. I mean seriously, bacon aioli?? How can you go wrong there? We also had the artichoke hearts which were superb.I had the shrimp and grits, ole ball and chain had the pork chops.Oh. My. Gawd. That’s all I gots to say about that. So damn good, I won’t go into complete detail here but try it for yourself. You can thank me later. And the final act? Cause you know, I had sooo much room left for dessert.Ole ball and chain doesn’t like to share his dessert so we ordered two. He had the Blueberry Buttermilk pie and I had the Brûlée Cheesecake.I swear on my first bite, I heard angels weep. And I’m Catholic, so I definitely know when I hear a weeping angel. This place is so damn good, I’m going back as soon as I can.I don’t know why you’re still reading a damn review.Go there now. NOW.Cause if I beat you there, I can’t promise I’ll leave anything left for you.~k
The food was delicious! Service was courteous and quick.
These guys do flavor! Everything is spectacular. Pork chop was out of this world with great mustard sauce and sweet potato mash. Zaatar chicken was charred perfectly and the chickpeas couldnt have been better. Cauliflower bread, tomato soup, everything was top notch. Great gluten free options, great environment, great music (that wasnt too loud... Just great background). Prices reasonable for quality and quantity. Come here hungry, leave pickin and grinnin.
What a gem! Outstanding, attentive service and the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. The green tomato chow chow was the perfect addition to an already amazing fried chicken filet.Nice assortment of wines and craft beers as well.
The best Reuben we ever had. Wonderful food nice atmosphere, friendly staff.
Good food and small town charm in the heart of Charleston. One of the best cherry tomatoes I have ever had but the chicken was dry. Overall it was a pleasant experience and the food was very fresh.
Interesting offerings good food great service nice atmosphere will go back
Killer food, great service and ambience. Its conveniently located, not far at all from an interstate exit. The beverage selection is excellent; theres sure to be a match for whatever food you order. Oh, and that food? Its going to rock your taste buds right out of that little pink hole in your face which will be forever changed. Better eat your favorite foods now while you still have a chance to enjoy them, because after this, you wont be able to appreciate anything else.
I recently had dinner there with my wife and mother-in-law. All of us were very thrilled with the food and the waiter was terrific funny guy but very attentive. The decor was kind of interesting, not at all what you would expect to see. Id almost call it sort of trendy. There were plenty of people in there and it was a fair amount of noise but thats what you get when the place is popular and busy. I liked it, and well be sure to go back again next time Im in Charleston.
Good experience. We had eggs Benny, potato cakes (awesome), and the big breakfast. The host was extremely friendly as was our server.
Great service meh food. Our waitress Lauren was awesome! She was very helpful and friendly! The best part of this restaurant!! The food itself lacked flavor and was not worth the $$-$$$ price. Dessert was delicious (but from a local bakery). Thank you for all of your help, Lauren!!
Good food, great service but a little pricey.
I love breakfast food, and consider myself a brunch connoisseur. I thought Id had the best there is. I thought Id seen it all. I was wrong. On a whim while driving from Lewisburg to Louisville, my wife and I stopped in here. I didnt know what to expect, and wasnt expecting much. We sat at the bar, and both ordered the Corned Beef Hash Stack. And thats where my expectations collided face first with reality. This is the best plate of brunch food to ever grace my mouth. Im from Kansas, and we think we know a little about beef down there. We dont know a damn thing. This is the best representation of beef that has ever been made. The saltiness, crunchiness (its both crunchy and tender at the same time! Every bite!), coupled with the perfect amount of peppered gravy and thinly sliced sauted peppers and onions. This is how breakfast should be served. Every day. We will be back.
With a laid back atmosphere, live music, and good food and drink this is one of the best places to find dinner in Charleston.
Very cozy and versatile restaraunt. The smaller room has a stage and just a few tables with full bar. Music is top notch! The large room has plenty of tables and because it is rather far from stage it is quiet there, enough to have a friendly conversation or romantic chit-chat. Definitely recommend their menu and service. 5 stars!
We sat at the bar and the bartender was great. Service was on point and the food was delicious. Bf had the asparagus sandwich and the flavors were great.I had the 1/2 pound burger with homemade pimento cheese. Delicious! Burger was cooked perfectly. Everything was great.
Disclaimer, I am just as embarrassed to write this review as I hope others are to read it. Upon entering the establishment we were mildly told our group over 5 people could not sit together. Okay, your establishment, your rules. Despite arriving 50 before closing, we felt that was a respectful amount of time to sit down and eat before the kitchen closed. After waiting for two separate tables to be cleared, we were told the wait for food might be 30 up to minutes. I’m not sure a crystal ball could predict what we would all order, but I don’t think Miss Cleo could predict that their “Simple Spinach Salad” would take an hour to prepare. Although our server was polite, and kept our water full, the kitchen’s commentary was Hollywood script worthy in Rob Zombie’s next b rated horror flick. If you’d like to tune in to their color commentary, just go to the bathroom. The coverage in there is fantastic. All would be forgiven if the food was amazing, but you might want to skip this farm to toilet establishment for your next meal.
Great find. Interesting menu. Pickle brined chicken was delicious.
Kinda neat, kinda quirky but very cool. The waiter was nice, food was excellent. There seems to be a lot of what I would call old hippies there the night I was there, so thats my kind of crowd. Was a good pleasant experience. Slightly pricey but the food was delicious. One of those sayings - you get what you pay for. Well worth the trip
We came from out of town and went here for brunch. It was wonderful! The corned beef was amazing and the ham was smoky and delicious.
The food is tasty but not really anything special enough to account for the high prices. The time from order to receiving is a bit excessive and our waitress was frequently hard to find.
Cool place to sit and look at art and the food is great
Blue grass feels like an open friendly space. Whether youre eating as a family or as a group out to crawl some pubs. The food is good, and the live bands are nice. Sometimes it can get a little hot in there, but most of the time its a comfortable place.
Great food, good music, super service!
Interesting dishes. Mac n cheese wasnt very flavorful. Soup was great. Good service, funky (fun) decor, a little pricey.
Great food! *Try the meatloaf! And cold local WV draught beer!
Was told they were out if good and could not be seated
Wonderful food, great friendly service! I love this place, have been here a number of times.
Good not great food. Eclectic menu with vegetarian options. Local organic food. A little pricey.
The food portions were enormous and a bit salty. I honestly would have just like smaller food portions one person could finish (they charge you to split anyway) and better quality food. They are going for upscale southern comfort but dont quite hit the mark.
Charleston WV as we all know has a large Void in great eats, good eats, even mediocre eats. Its the only Capital city I have been to where all the food is awful. Bluegrass is Nooo diff, farm to table, high quality tasty food, Nope. People flock there bc there is literally No decent food in C-town, none, zilch, zero food. Wonder y theres no food theres no jobs, which politicians of the past 20 yrs do they blame. Go to the Station in Fayeville, WV near Beckley if u want a better version of farm to table.
High quality food and service and atmosphere
Outstanding food. Sweet potatoe curry soup phenomenal and the burger was fresh made. Not frozen or pre-pattied. The employees were friendly and easy to talk to. And the service was wonderful. Atmosphere is inviting. The prices are more then fair for the quality of the food. Im from out of the area and will return here anytime Im in the area. #voices
A cute dining location that was perfect for a lunch after visiting the Capitol building.
Today is our third time coming here. The food is always great. Fresh tasting and not the norm. Love it! The waitstaff is excellent. And the atmosphere is a mixture of funky and grandmas house.
Great place :) great music. I always love listening to music here on my days off
Very well prepared American fare at reasonable prices in a casual setting. Had pork chop which was quite tasty and bigger than most pork chops. Left well satisfied. Will go back when in Charleston, WV.
Excellent food every time! Would be 5 stars except that they say a rowdy group right next to us and we couldnt talk or hear what the other person was saying.
Great atmosphere and amazing corned beef!
Great food, friendly service, nice atmosphere
Noodles were cold, soggy, and lacked flavor. We only saw our server a total of 3 times -- once to take our order, again to bring out the food, and once for the check. Poor service and gross noodles made for an unpleasant dining experience. Plus, the menu isnt exactly appealing to the average Joe, as it lacks variety. Its a shame because the restaurant is so cute, hip, and conveniently located. Perhaps a second chance is in order, but my first visit was very displeasing.
The fried chicken sandwich...so good. No words.
Great place for food conversation and live music. Friendly service. Good destination for get togethers
Great meal during restaurant week . Too noisy to talk.
The food was very good and it was good service.
Great local food! The fish and chips was wonderful!
Bluegrass kitchen is great. They dont have an extensive menu, but what they do have is quite good. Also, you cant go wrong with the brunch!
We were on an out of town visit and decided to stop at Bluegrass Kitchen for Easter brunch. What a disappointment! Floury and cold potato cakes, really undercooked bacon and hard potato skins. Our server (Joe?) asked me how the food was and I simply said mediocre. He seemed insulted and asked me why I ate half of it then. Overpriced. Bluegrass Kitchen tries too hard to be hipster and fails.
Our waitress was awesome! And I loved the fact they had Mckenzies Pineapple Hemp cider on draught. The food that our party got lacked flavor all around. Which was a little disappointing but it couldve just been an off night. Wont stop me from going back and supporting local!
Southern cooking with friendly service. The food was ok, but nothing special.
