Lots of activities for the kids. A great indoor option during the winter, but the outdoor activities look fun too! All of the activities are pretty age-universal and fun no matter what, but the older they are, they could really learn a ton of science. Everyone, staff and visitors, were all really friendly and helpful.

5$ to get in. Grandkids loved it, a lot of the areas are non operating especially in the vet room, but the concept and dress up was still appreciated. Interesting old building . Though its geared towards 10 and under my older grandchildren found things to do . The outside section was closed due to weather. Many secret spaces to entertain the kids. We spent about 2 hour here.

For being in such a small place, it’s pretty good. They have the iconic water table and wind tunnels for the kids to play with. We spent only about 1.5-2 hours here before we continued on our vacation to Iowa. It was also free for military, so big plus!!

We went for the first time today (we are from out of town) for the noon day drop and the place is dingy and gross. The whole upstairs smelled like pee and was completely unbearable! We were extremely disappointed!!!! We are ASTC members and still had to pay full price which was NOT worth it!

Love this little children’s museum. Expect to spend 1-3 hours here, depending on age of your kids. Perfect for 1-6 year olds. Older siblings will have fun for awhile, but probably not a destination for them to go without younger siblings.Exhibits my son enjoys the most are the water table, magnet tiles, indoor playground area, and watching the turtles swim around.

The museum itself was nice. The kids liked the outdoor area and spent a lot of time at the water table and the coloring on the walls.Halfway through our visit they opened the gates and released all the camp kids with no supervision. They ran, pushed, grabbed and didn’t share and blocked my children from entering the boat or the space area. We ended up leaving earlier than planned and less than happy.

A great place to have in the downtown area. Lots of activities for kids. A fabulous outdoor space with Dino dig, bubbles, and butterfly garden. A water table, a Lego area, and an indoor slide are just a few of the indoor features. This place is perfect for any day but especially for hot summer days and cold winter days when you need a place to take the kids to burn off energy. A membership for a year is the best value but if only going for a day it is only $5 per person.

Review №21

There might be some activities to do in the summer, but in winter time this is an empty cave. We were there for about an hour and we saw everything they had to offer. I thought the place was not very clean and more than half of the things they were having there were not really working. I had to turn on one of the machines myself (luckly I understand electric). Theatre was closed and boy that is a waste of space. I do hope theyll be able to do something with that. So much space going to waste.

This is a nice enough place to spend the afternoon. I think we spent 3 hours there before running out of things to do. I like their outdoor exhibits on paleontology, archeology, whisper disks (the best whisper disks Ive experienced!). They also have giant bubbles but on our windy day it didnt really work, maybe because of the wind or maybe the solution was poor. The water play zone is a always a favorite at any childrens museum and my kids spent a lot of time there. There were a few exhibits closed during construction and a few that really needed some maintenance.

A nice childrens destination, age 1.5-6. Some of the exhibits are a bit run down or not working correctly, and Id classify it more as a childrens museum than science or nature. Those with passes to Chicagos Adler or MSI can get in free.

I really want to give this more stars, because I really want to see Champaign-Urbana have a great childrens science museum.A number of people have put a great deal of effort into making great components of this space. Unfortunately it doesnt come together very well. It has seen very free updates and doesnt measure up to the childrens museums in Decatur or Normal. That being said, the staff are great and having a birthday party there is certainly a great time.

Review №36

It has potential but there is a lot of wasted space and exhibits are stale. We frequently drive to Bloomington, Decatur, Indy, or Chicago for the museums instead. Champaign just cant keep up. Its good for like 45 minutes to an hour and then we are ready to move on.

It is not worth the 5 dollars they charge, but I do understand the contribution of the money to keep the old theatre up an running in some type of way. One thing that struck me as odd if that is the main reason to keep it open, guests are allowed to write on the walls in a part down stairs. Would have loved to see this theater in its prime.

Ok. We are members and really wish this was a great childrens museum, but it just isnt. We have been to others in the area and many in the Chicago area and this one just doesnt measure up. I understand that is mostly run by volunteers and donations but every time we go, it just seems sad and thrown together. There is a newer area with a space theme that is nearly empty and the 2 machines they do have are always broken. I think they need a bigger space and/or better funding to make it a destination for the area. It is fine to go to once or twice a year, but beyond that it just isnt that interesting. That being said, we will continue to be members and to take classes to support the place and hopefully they can become a destination for the area eventually.

I would give this zero stars if I could. I took a 9 year old there, and he was bored out of his mind. The place is dirty, exhibits were out of date and not much information. Many things were not up and running. Parents just dropped off their children and left, I guess it is a cheap babysitting service at $5.00 a head for as long as you want.

On our last trip to the Champaign-Urbana area, my entire family visited the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum and we had a good time. We dropped by on a Sunday afternoon about 10 minutes before the museum officially opened at noon. A birthday party was just wrapping up while we waited for opening time. It’s obvious that the museum used to be a theater and we loved the architecture and some of the original details inside. The museum isn’t very large, but it is situated on 2 levels with various exhibits that incorporate a fun way to learn about science. There weren’t many people there when we visited (after the birthday party left) so we almost had the whole place to ourselves. The Good: My toddler son had a great time at some of the exhibits at the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum. Some of his favorites were the train table (of course…it was so hard to pry him away from the train table), the water table (again, a favorite among many kids – but this table was different in that it had different sized plastic pieces that you could configure to control water flow), and a sand table with purple sand.My teenage daughter and I really enjoyed the Momentum Machine on the lower level. A small spinning circle teaches angular momentum - just like you see the figure skaters do on the ice. You kick off with one leg, hold your leg out to the side, then slowly bring your leg back to your other leg. You’ll start spinning faster and faster! The Bad: The museum was a tad bit on the small side, and we couldn’t get some of the exhibits on the second level to work – due to missing pieces and such.Overall: The Orpheum Children’s Science Museum is a good way to spend a few hours with the kids. Children will benefit from the many science lessons found throughout the museum – and they’ll have lots of fun doing it! Admission is only $5 per person (as of January 2015, please check website for details), so its an inexpensive educational outing for the kids!
