Interesting site and unique in the US since we don’t have many Native American sites to visit (likely as a result of the atrocities carried out by colonizers). But these structures were lovely - a bit similar to Mayan pyramids but on a smaller scale and made of dirt instead of stone. An amazing feat! Recommend going in the morning or late afternoon for best lighting. Great views from the top of each mound and a cute nature trail along the Etowah river at the back of the site.

Fascinating place! Very informative and such a beautiful scenery! You can walk around the mounds, Etowah river bank is peaceful and you can learn about herbs and tree parts used as medicine by the Cherokee as well. We have seen otters playing in the river! Dont miss the museum, they have lots or artefacts and also models of how the city really looked like. When you arrive, the best thing to do is go straight to the museum and pay $6 which is museum entrance with parking fee combined. Staff is very helpful!

Easy walk to see three large mounds. The tallest of which gives you a good view of the vista, however it does requires you to go up 132 steps. Its worth the climb if you can make it. Also theres a nice trail that goes along the river that circles the property and takes you back to the parking lot.Go early in the morning or on a cool day as it gets very hot and there are not a lot of trees around the mounds. Good for birding also.

It was worth the hour drive to me from Duluth. The museum is open but you have to book a spot online in advance because of COVID so I just explored the mounds and trail along the perimeter. Beautiful scenery by the river with benches to sit for awhile. I enjoyed climbing up the mounds. Cool place I’d go again. Have fun! Oh yeah as with most state parks parking is $5.

Great place to visit if you are interested in Native American history. Since we arrived a little late, we didn’t have time to visit the museum, but we did explore most of the outside (took around an hour). The scenery was beautiful on top of the mounds and the walk was very peaceful (only a few people there when we went). Parking admission is $5 and the front ladies gave us free protein bars (which helped on the walk!).Only downside would be the front ladies weren’t wearing face masks even though they had COVID-19 signs posted around the site.

Very cool spot. Nice museum located at the entrance. The mounds themselves are eerie on quiet days. Stairwells allow you to climb the mounds, and plaques are scattered throughout the grounds. Entrance isnt free, but I dont remember the price being too unreasonable. Definitely recommend, if for no other reason than to put in perspective the way of life of the native history. Five out of five stars.

Awesome place to visit. Im giving it 5 stars because I really enjoyed it. I will say that I recieved a parking ticket when I returned to my vehicle and I immediately paid it in the box they had out there. I didnt notice the pay parking when I first went in so be careful of this. The mosquitos werent bad but I did pick up a tick so watch for that too. Overall, we had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend visiting this place.

We had a field trip for our grandchildren and this was a hit. They enjoyed the hut, climbing the Indian Mounds and walking along the river. Then we went back to the museum and listened to the 20 minute film and looked at the artifacts again. Bring your masks! The cost was $6.00 for adults and less for kids.

My family and I loved learning about the Cherokee Indians and their culture in the museum at the Etowah Indian mounds. We found a few items in the gift shop as well. The staff was friendly. The mounds were cool to climb and had spectacular views atop. There was a relaxing river located in the back. There are also picnic tables and restrooms. We will definitely go back one day.

A very interesting historic site in northwest Georgia. The area is the site of a pre-Colombian Mississippian Indian settlement. The mounds themselves, or at least two of the three, were built beginning over 1000 years ago. They once served as elevated foundations for structures of note. The settlement covered the entire site. A model of what it may have looks like can be seen in the museum. Mounds A and B are original; mound C was fully excavated and what you see today is a reconstruction. On one side of the park you can see the pit from which all of the dirt for the mounds was excavated. At there far side there is also a very nice walk along the Etowah River where you still and relax by the river, a can see a fish-funneling dam that would have helped the original inhabitants to collect large amounts of fish. It is unclear whether the current dam is original (which seems unlikely), or perhaps is the remnants of later iterations built and maintained by later cultures in the area. Or perhaps it may have been restored for demonstration prepared. In any case, I have lived in the area for 13 years and never visited until today. It was very worthwhile and I intend to return in the future. Total time spent including visiting the museum, wandering the grounds, and hiking most of the trails was approximately 90 minutes. Admission was $6 for a regular Joe like me.

Would have rated 5 stars but visited when things are still in COVID19 Phases. You have to call for a reservation to go in Meusem. They are limited to how many people are inside so thats the reservation reasoning, which I understand and respect, but we were not availablefor the time slot they had left. So we did all outside and found everything very fascinating. Climb to the top of the highest mound where the Cheif lived. Walk to the river and then on the nature trail back to the parking lot. On the trail you will see the borrow spots too.A must see in Etowah, GA.

They did an amazing job explaining how the Etowah Indians lived when they were there. A museum had artifacts from tools to head gear to cooking items to items children would play with. The mounds were cool to walk up on a see the whole site. At the time we were there the river was out of its banks so we could not see the fish wier they had built. They also had clean restrooms. It was $for seniors and $6 for adults.

Incredible historic site of Indian mounds. You can walk on an authentic mound once inhabited by Indian chiefs and take in the views similar to what they saw. They also have some recreated mounds where others stood and were destroyed. Loved the museum with world class artifacts! Id advise going early before the gets too hot or wear a hat.

This is a great place to take the grandkids when you have 3rd to 8th graders. Learn about the Indigenous people who built these mounds. Bring good walking shoes and watch your steps. Look up the Georgia state standards to relate the history to practical testing conducted by the Georgia state school districts. This is a great place to visit to incorporate your homeschooling or online distance schooling this year.

I was here for a field trip for the Elementary school that my 2nd grader goes to. Admission for the chaperones was $3.50 from the original $6 for Adults. It was a guided tour that started with a short video of the history of the Etowah Indian Mounds. Then we were guided through the museum looking at all kinds of artifacts. We then went outside on the grounds of the mounds. There was a park ranger giving a tutorial on the different types of weapons, pottery, tools, etc that were used during the time period. It was a lot of fun and very informative. Then we headed to the tallest mound where the chief would have given speeches to the tribe. Its 63 ft high with at least 100 stairs leading to the top! And then we walked along the Etowah River. It was a great day to enjoy the open air and all of the views to take in! Thanks for reading and enjoy your future visit!

I visited here in May of 2018. It was a clean Park, well organized, with nice trails. It cost $8 for myself and my one year old to enter. The guide gave us a five minute introduction to the history and sites of the park. Then we walked outside to check out the Mounds and fishtrap. We also took the nature trail around one side of the park. The trails were pleasant and well lit. The nature trail was shaded most of the way. My son really loved seeing Turtles laying on the logs in the water of the river. There was ample parking and plenty of spaces open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. After our walk, we ate lunch at the picnic tables next to the parking lot. It was a large green space with plenty of trees for shade. My son loved running around and playing with sticks and leaves. It was wonderful to spend all morning out in nature. We spent 4 hours total. This is an amazing historical site, worth checking out if you are passing by or live in the area.

Good walking access to mounds, though not for handicapped. Nothing but a good view to see from the tops—almost all artifacts from the mounds are off-site at museums and at universities for study—no reenactment buildings on mounds. Inside museum good, with originals and replicas, staff very helpful and knowledgeable, and a nice documentary film. Hours of operation very good. Takes some imagination to grasp the scale of the town and its origins, without extra study.

Its pretty nice here. I wished they had more activities for visitors outside if walking the mounds. I come each year with my students. This year, the gift shop didnt have much and it was just blah. The museum had glass that needed to be replaced (one exhibit had its glass case literally laying down in top of the display). It would be nice to have more replicas if the houses on the top of the mounds and even in the fields. But I understand that this was government funded so nothing more will probably be added.
