This is a great museum of primarily southern Illinois history. Not an overly large space but the creative and inspired work of curated displays means that this museum does not suffer from cramped surroundings due to trying to display too much of their collections. If you will be visiting check out the North halls Swedlund photography including pics from the region. They are incredible. Artwork from the Depression era can be found in the South hall. Allow yourself enough time to get through both halls. You wont be disappointed.
A fun free way to spend a few hours with a great collection
This museum has a very good collection of art and items with historical significance. I highly recommend it for locals and visitors alike!

I can always expect to see a wide variety of well curated exhibits at the museum. I have seen everything from local and regional historical exhibits to art exhibits that range from MFA thesis shows to nationally noted artists. The museum is a great link between SIU and the community of Carbondale and the surrounding region.
