Canyon Lake Dam

Great place for a walk and to simply enjoy the view. It’s 0.8 miles one way. If you are wanting additional distance, continue past the gate at the far end.

Sometimes I look for answers and cant always find what Im looking for. But it was something about that day. I felt that God lead me there just to say everything is alright. His presence was amazing. His voice was loud and clear. Praise God for His voice.

A good mile long walk across the dam will allow you to see amazing views of the town and Guadalupe River. The water in the river is so blue! Perfect for swimming, tubing, and all around water fun.

Great little spot. Clear water and rocky area to hand out by the water. Great sopt for dogs.

Was disappointed that the overlook park was not situated so you could see the dam. Just the spillway - which was dry. Not great paths to get to anything to see. A lot of trees blocked the view and the path was a bit treacherous to walk on with a lot of rocks; grade changes. You could walk across the top of the dam from the trail access prior to the overlook area - but we like to be able to see the “working” part of the dam. Disappointing for sure.

This was our 3rd annual visit to Canyon Lake during the thanksgiving break and always find something new to do in the area. This is one stop that you have to do while in the area. Breath taking! This kind of outdoors adds years to my life I tell ya! Try it. We found different trails and ways to get down to to lake. Do early morning or late afternoon to get the full affect. We love it.

Nice place to look at the water and relax. Parking is limited and they do have a restroom at yhe top of the damn. Closes at sunset.

The dam is a very serene place. There are quite a few people but its still somehow quiet. The view is beautiful and the cool air this time of year (october) is wonderful.

Great place for a walk in the morning. One side you got the lake with emerald green water and on the other side you got the mountains. You can also walk down towards the lake and chill around the shores.

One of my favorite places on Earth. The view elicited a desire for me to move to this area that could not be quenched.. I have never regretted that move. Always nice to see this place.

Excellent place to go for walks in the morning time. After that the place gets crowded with people trying to getting access to the lake.

My son and I loved taking his grandparents here. We had a picnic and walked over the dam. Beautiful views.

This is a very peaceful, clean, and beautiful place to spend an afternoon with your family, spouse/partner, or even by yourself. The water and the trail area aeee kept very clean. They also have benches surrounding the area that are in a shaded area. I was able to enjoy a peaceful afternoon picnic, and have a beautiful view all with free access.

Very nice and relaxing place to visit

Took the kids after after leaving the resort right down the road. Had never gone here before so decided to just drive down to see what it looked like. It was a beautiful little spot. Great for walking but not much shade. People go there to fish, walk or sight-see. Some were even in the water. Be cautious though as the area can be steep to walk down.

I love the water here. The walk down isnt as bad as the walk up the Rocky Hill, will leave you winded. The water is really deep and cold. The rocks are a little slippery getting in and out but perfect to tie off to a rock and just float on your tube. Hardly any shade by the water so bring sunscreen and plenty to drink. Worth the cool off from the Texas heat

My family enjoyed ourselves. It has clear beautiful water, the drive to it was scenic and the dam and park are well maintained.The swimming beach was closed though.It was my first time there..We are now planning a picnic for another date.

Great Park, great views, plenty of room for dogs, several trails right nearby. Dogs must be on leash. Bring a chair and sit on the dam and watch the sunset.

Comal Park section was really nice and had a restroom and port a potties. Lots of picnic tables and even a playground (be careful because the playground has sand in it and kids will get full of it especially after swimming)

Love walking this area, and the water is always clear, clean, and beautiful. When the water is down the rocks make for a perfect jump spot . No luck fishing yet but we come every time we visit .

Now that it has opened to the public again for walking across, it remains one of the best scenic strolls in Texas. Also, get a tour of the Canyon Gorge while youre here.

Its sad when you go to a place like this and go to take a photo of your family and all you see is trash littering the floor. It would be a great place to hang out and get in the water but sadly some people dont know how to use a trashcan and fast food bags, cups and cans can be found all over.

Went for the drive to canyon lake didnt go swimming just to drive around very beautiful sites I like it its been a very long time since Ive been out there with my family but other than that a very good I would like to live out there look for good place land a home other than that I recommend canyon lake for just for her to get out of the city and just enjoy yourself kind of quiet area and I want to bother you BBQ rest and have fun

My kid really likes coming here, you can hike swim and its a great place to watch the sunset by the lake.

Love the views! If you go on the weekends there is a Farmers market on your way to Canyon Lake coming from San Marcos- the Blackberry Wine cake is AMAZING.

It was quite fantastic! My ex-girlfriend brought me to a charity walk for her nephew and the participants walked along the dam. I enjoyed the scenery. The lake view was notably breathtaking. I absolutely plan to go back.

Great place to go to unwind and relax. In the summer its fantastic for friends and family to enjoy the water and during the chiller seasons, Its a fantastic place to get away from everything else.

We were lucky to attend a first ever car show benefit on top of the dam. The proceeds are to help with safety modifications to allow public access to the top. It was a thrill to attend.

What a beautiful place to overlook the lake in this hill country. I love how trails begin to appear around the park where people mostly gone through. On restroom at the end of the park, no soap, plenty of parking not just in the parking slots, must see. Other than that, the other side of the dam looks pretty too with white tailed deers hanging around the slope of the dam. Its gergous in its way.

Awesome nature! A must visit place in San Antonio high elevation and nice view of the lake.You can bring foods but please dont litter as we should keep it clean for others to enjoy.Water is almost crystal clear good for swimming but cold.Parking is not a problem nd theres rest room and portalet as well.A good place to relax and escape the city life.

Always come here for some boating. It would be nice and much cleaner if people would clean up their mess and dispose of the trash properly.

Lovely summer time playing place but I wish someone could control the cleaning and the parking space.

Canyon Lake Dam is a beautiful place to see, its always on my to-do list when I visit New Braunfels. The dam brings so many visitors, Im so happy that its open again!

Oh and this place closes when it wants they tell u they close at 8pm but they can close at 5pm and u spend $20 to only go once. Then they give u attitude. Great customer service. And they don’t refund or give waivers for their lies and mess ups

Amazing place to see. Cant access it right now for walking, but you can see the same view from Overlook Park on the south of the dam. Sunset is gorgeous from South end of dam. You can watch the golden sun dip behind the horizon and light up the sky in pinks, gold tones, and hues of violet on most evenings.

Canyon lake dam - it is so ridiculous that something that is enjoyable for everyone has to be ruined for everyone due to political correctness. Accommodations could easily be made to assist anyone that needed help. Please reopen the dam!!!
