The museum was in a convenient location by foot, anywhere in Boston when taking the T. I felt annoyed that there was no monetary break for a veteran-priced ticket. Nonetheless, still worth the admission to go and see all of the riches that the Harvard alumni have donated!
Great place. If you are in the area worth to stop by and explore the art exhibits. There is an entrance fee of $20 for the general public. Not sure of there is a student or senior discount. They also have lockers to store your items. Museum is a good size but u can get thru in couple of hours depending on how much of an art fan u are !
As much as I am not an art critic myself, gotta say I really liked visiting this museum. Prices are low and the place looks amazing. Plus a lot of good art to see. Recommending.
The museum is very clean and organized. The selection of art (my wife is interested in art, me...sort of) was varied and interesting, with a large selection of beautiful paintings, sculpture and historical pieces. The security team there is very friendly and helpful....front desk staff not so much but it was one person acting that way and Im sure there are many other helpful employees here. Still 5 stars as my wife had a wonderful time!
Fantastic art museum... Comparable to the Museum of Fine Arts. Some outstanding pieces including Monet and stuff. Came here with my Brazilian friend and she loves it too. We had free entrance cause we are students. 5/5 stars would def recommend...
Really friendly and young staff who enjoys being there! I got in for free with my international student ID which is fantastic. Only thing I would have appreciated more is a clear starting and ending point or a chronologically laid out itinerary
The new building is absolutely stunning. The Museum itself is a major teaching Museum. It has works from virtually all civilizations throughout history. Some of the paintings are iconic and everyone will recognize them. Others I havent seen before. This may be a teaching Museum, but its actually quite large. Make sure you will allot 1 to 3 hours to see it.
Great experience, we love Picassos paintings from different stages of his work as well Henry Moors sculptures.
A nice Art Museum with a collection across Mediaeval, East Asian, Egyptian, Romanian art.A plus is that there is a coat room where you can store your belongings freely.
Great museum with a small but solid collection ranging from historic to 20th century art.
This is a very doable museum if you have an afternoon to spend in Harvard Square. They have a very nice variety of eras and artists represented in the collections. The lobby seating is usually full of people studying instead of cafe patrons but that’s to be expected. The staff is friendly and polite. I’m grateful to have such a lovely art museum nearby!
Wow! The Harvard Art Museum had so many interesting artifacts. Make sure you allow a 2 hour minimum to go through. We were there for about 3 hours. The Harvard University Campus is amazing also.
Inspiring arts and helpful staff definitely should check out
What an awesome museum. Now even bigger and better than ever. Worth a trip to Cambridge from anywhere.
Picasso, monet, Manet, degas ... and many many more! amazing collection ! Not too overcrowded and a very well maintained building!
Amazing art collection including impressionists to renaissance. A rich museum in masters (Renoir, Van Gogh, Picasso, etc), including some interesting constructivist artists (Joaquin Torres Garcia). Plan to spend 3-4 hours to truly enjoy each floors. Café available on main floor as well as free lockers in lieu of coat check.
Amazing!!! Very good collection of Chinese antique,. The best Jade collection outside of China .And very rare paintings from Dunhuang . Breathtaking. The museum is not to big compare to Washington national musemu or metropolitan museum of art new York but it has very high end piece .The Jun ware collection is also the best in quality and quantity outside of China. If you are in Boston and you are into arts, it is a place that must go .
Beautiful Museum.
Great collection. The coinage exhibit is worth your time. Spent a relaxed 2 1/2 hours there. Ill go back.
Beautiful museum with a varied and very interesting collection!
An amazing collection. Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh and so much more. Truly impressive.
You can see lots of interesting artifacts hereFrom Egypt to China
This place is great! So many works of art that you read about in books are right there in front of you. When you see them up close you gain a deeper understanding of why these masterpieces are truly treasures.
Wonderful Art Museum. Has some famous works in it worth seeing. Lots of variety and a great place to spend the afternoon.
Lots of beautiful fine ate pieces. Just make sure to read the parking signs because the police are really rude.
A beautiful museum worth visiting
Unbelievable art collection in a beautiful building. Not to be missed.
Absolutely amazing
Such a wonderfull place to visit. Its well laid out, quiet and had a little bit of everything. Worth the visit and theres plenty of sites to see around Harvard Uni too. Had an easy relaxing day trip.
Worth a visit. Small but great collection of very fine pieces from many eras and cultures. A little bit of everything.
This museum is like a police state. Security guards target people of color and follow them around corners. They need some anti-bias training. There was one old black woman in particular named Nelly who gave us dirty looks as my friend and I entered an exhibit, and kept following us around. There were plenty of other white people, and she wasnt watching them at all. As we were discussing the paintings, she rudely jumped in and told us not to point at paintings (!). The experience was so traumatizing that we ended up leaving the gallery early. My friend was in tears. I’ve been to museums all around the world and this was my first time experiencing this kind of racialized surveillance and aggression. Surprised that this sort of thing happens at a museum run by a university. Wow.
Must visit. Unique collection of high quality arr.
I loved the variety and quality of the artwork. Its a smaller exhibition than the known big museums but the quality of the pieces is outstanding which combines for a great experience
Modern design with simplicity and good lighting while retaining the buildings classic roots. Excellent, smooth facilities and gracious, kind staff. Exhibits were lovely.
Very accessible Museum -well laid out. Wonderful Maurice Wertheim collection! Enjoyed it!
Beautiful, the surrounding area beautiful.
I would describe the permanent exhibits here as a “greatest hits album” of Western art. Beyond that, there are some wonderful specimens of ancient Egyptian, roman, and Chinese sculpture and pottery on display as well. For someone who is tenuously familiar with world art, I recommend starting here.
Really great art. Small but powerful art collection
Museum is somewhat small, but the collection is tremendous. A huge amount of Asian art. With a student ID you can get in free!
If you visit Cambridge, you should try to go to Harvard Art Museum.
Great for events, catered appetizers were so-so, I would eat somewhere else before going next time or have dinner later.
Nice museum with lots of artwork and artifacts
Visited here 2016 in November. Its a small museum but with impressive collections. Not only worth exploring Harvard but this is worth a visit. This is inside Harvard University complex. Wheelchair friendly. Welcoming atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff. Theres a washroom here and suitable for all ages especially young children.I was staying in Somerville and walked here which was doable. Worth exploring. Eclectic collection worth exploring.
Nice collection, even better that I had a Harvard student take me so we got in for free. Worth a visit, my favorite section was the East Asian art collection.
The collection is diverse and interesting.
This museum is extraordinary! The collection of work is absolutely stunning both in diversity of culture and time periods. Even if you are not an art afficianado you will be awed by their collection. Absolute must if youre in Boston.
An extremely impressive collection. Staff needs to educate students (I assume they were Harvard students!) on proper museum decorum. Loud and rude.
Just steps away from Harvard Square. Comprised of three Harvard museums. The art collections include approximately 250,000 objects in all media, ranging in date from antiquity to the present and originating in North Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America.
A must visit if visiting Harvard. Very Interesting paintings, sculptures, coins, artifacts dating back upto 1000 BCE. Free for Facultly/Staff/Students.
David Smith. Go see The medals of Dishonor 1938-40
There are wonderful exhibits, you can touch the meteors, and the bee exhibits are extremely well done.
Simple small nice museum
One of the best in town!
Havard is Harvard. Every is amazing. I love it.
Didnt go in bc it was closing time. But I would have gone in if I came early.
One if the best kept secrets for Impressionists Paintings!!! I think they have more than the MFA. Just an incredible collection of art.
Not quite sure what I expected coming to the art museum when touring Harvard but the caliber of the galleries was overwhelming. Van Gogh, Degas, Matisse Rodin, and plenty more. Highly recommend.
Great surprise! Small museum but with great pieces of art that can be visited in a nice and quiet atmosphere (uncommon on big museums noway!). Loved some of the remarkable US artists works that you can find there. Pitty they charge you for visiting, and not on the cheap side.
Fantastisch museum in a beautiful building. The collection has a bit of everything: from Early Modernism to Ancient China and from Impressionism to Medieval Art. Its large enough to keep you occupied for a while (I stayed 3 hours and saw everything), but not so large that its overwhelming. Every artwork has a description. The museum cafe is small, but nice.
One of the best museums in the Greater Boston.Just one block from my photo studio!
This is a must see destination while in Boston/Cambridge. Every piece is an important work of art. Cezanne next to Renoir next to Degas next to Manet. It goes on and on. Three museums of different collections housed under one roof. All exquisite, enjoyable, educational and stunning. $15 per adult admission. The gallery attendants are kind and helpful. The cafe is a nice spot for a light lunch or to enjoy a beverage. There is a gift shop, too.
I was crying bc if happy - one of the best museums which I saw! Perfect!
Really complete collection. Good museum.
The Bauhaus exhibition for the 100th anniversary of the school is amazing
Spent few hours here. I enjoy the art here
You will see bigger collections and more important collections, but you will never see such an eclectic assemblage of fine paintings and sculpture anywhere this side of Paris. This is well worth the effort to go to at least once a year.
Small place that you can spend anywhere from an hour to three. Friendly staff and small gift shop.
An incredible museum and an absolute must see. Took me around 3 hours to get thrugh 3 of the levels and you feel absolutely immersed in the artworks and expositions.
Great museum with a mix of contemporary, modern and ancient works of art. Also free on Saturday morning for residents before 12pm.
Lovely... excellent....!!!
So this museum is pretty huge, way bigger than I had expected because of the multiple levels. They have a wide variety of art do you should definitely be able to find something that you like. The weird thing about this place was that you could get coffee right by the entrance to one of the rooms, but still inside the building, and there are no signs saying that you should not take the drinks into the gallery. So my wife and I were yelled at after a few minutes of being in the gallery. In hindsight it should have been fairly obvious that its not allowed, but I would definitely suggest signs, especially because of the close proximity of the coffee area to one of the rooms in the gallery.
Visited Bauhaus exhibit. Would have liked to see even more, especially objects and Design side. But building is nice multiple interesting (smaller) exhibits.
The art is a grand collection of old and new peices.
Wonderful place to see all kinds of art. Good cafe on the main floor. They are always having the most interesting special exhibits.
Great art, beautiful facility. However, walking around, it feels like a police state. Guards are repeatedly peering at my wife and I from around doorways and corners as we walk through individual exhibits. I’ve been to museums all around the world and never once had this feeling of not being welcome. I got the message Harvard. Won’t be back.
FREE for Cambridge residents, and there are great display pieces. This museum is huge, plan to spend at least a day here !!
Went to two Erasmus lectures in the auditorium -- a great place to look and listen but not so much for note-taking if youre so inclined. Seats are comfy and legroom ample -- they often screen films here. Parking is free in the Broadway Garage (off Felton St.) when the museum hosts special events!
Great place ... worth the visit ...worth the price ... if you show up late towards closing time ask for a 2nd day pass
The true definition of hidden in plain sight, the Harvard Art Museum is a true wonder to behold, and a must visit should you find yourself in Harvard Square. This museum often gets overlooked due to the big names like the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts hogging the limelight
Beautiful artwork. Free entrance with a student ID
After 10 years of planning and 6 years of construction, the Harvard Art Museum was finally reopened in the late fall of 2014. The two-storey exhibition hall, which cost $350 million, brings together all the treasures of the previous three museums. Designed by Renzo Piano, the new pavilion moves the original Art Research Center from the first floor to the top floor, and is equipped with new art restoration and maintenance equipment. The Art Research Center, which is open to visitors, is a major feature of the Harvard Art Museum. Visitors can enjoy some precious original works and have a close look at the experience.
Excellent collection located at one of the worlds foremost institutions. Comfortable place to work and study, unique selection of artifacts from throughout their archives - including a rare selection of pigments. A bit small in scope, however, relative to the universitys collections.
I loved it. Its harvard, what do you expect. My favorite part was the top level digital exhibit.
We love this collection and the terrific cafe. The museum is not too large to enjoy in a long visit. I like the scale of the place.

The collection is a lot larger than youd think, and very diverse. Theres everything here from Ancient Egypt to Medieval Japan to Modern Germany. Its also free for students.
A fantastic museum. Well worth a visit as the range of exhibits is breathtaking. Especially the artworks.
Great place to wall through if you are in the Harvard area. Beautiful building.
A free museum with a great collection. Whats not to like?
Free for students (high school and Harvard students alike), tons of really interesting tours led by undergraduates that have done more research on the pieces on their tour than I could ever do, and really famous paintings mixed with super cool contemporary pieces where each gallery is its own message. What more could you want??
Great collection, and not too big so that you cant see it all without rushing.
Great evening at the opening of the exhibition; the photography department has organize many fantastic seminar over the last few years.
A well organized museum with art works covering hundreds of years. Good worldwide representation of artworks from nearly all the geographical parts of the world. The artworks on display were of high quality. The ticket is affordable and spaces for relaxation are comfortable.
A wonderful sized art museum, with a wide and varies collection. The cafe is fantastic as well. $15 dollars if not a Cambridge resident or without a Harvard ID.
Great expositions in a wonderful building.

Very interesting museum with amazing exhibitions
