There are a number of trails that circumnavigate Big Butte and travel down into Whiskey Gulch. You can drive up to the lower base on the M (or V ). The road closes at dusk to vehicles. There is a beautiful view of Butte from this vantage point. You can see from Wallerville down onto the flat. Definitely was worth the side trip and few wrong turns getting up the there. You will want to take a look at the pictures as they tell a much better story.

Great place to hike, walk a dog, or ride a bike. This area is adjacent to Montana Tech, which has a folf course and fledgling mountain bike skills park. Classic Montana views and a great view of the city at night.

Hard to figure out what areas are private property and what is public. Theres a disc golf course here (which is what I came for), but its very poorly marked. In fact, it was challenging to even find the first tee. The wind would make that pretty difficult to play on too.

The Butte itself is a great hike, accessible from Tech and a couple lower lots. The trails behind the Butte are great for biking, and far enough out on Oro Fino ATVs are allowed on some of them, although be sure to double check the signs just in case.

Remarkable open-space park. East & South overlooking the town of Butte, West and North virtually uninhabited arid range land pockmarked by 100+ year old mine prospect. Features an easy to follow loop circumnavigating the long extinct volcanic neck AKA the Big Butte.
