An average museum with random exhibits and sun-beaten bombers on static display.First off, read the information on their how to access the museum, as its on Barksdale AFB itself, so you have to go through the gate, etc. Secondly, when I went to the museum, all of the doors were locked (despite it being a couple hours after opening) and I had to call the phone number listed on their site to get entry. Once inside, the place was underwhelming, be it either the lackluster gift shop or the the haphazardly arranged exhibits. The highlight of the museum is the static aircraft on display, ranging from WWII aircraft such as the B-17 and B-24, to unique cold war aircraft like the Avro Vulcan, and two of the aircraft currently based at Barksdale, the B-52 Stratofortress. The only sad thing about these aircraft is that theyre all baking outside in the sun, and its clear that theyve seen better days. Ill give them credit for restoring the paint job on some of the airplanes, but it didnt seem like they did their research on what the paint schemes and finishes should be.My final take on the museum is that its worth checking out if youre in the area and have some free time, but make the outdoor portion the priority to see.
Please check out a piece of our history at Barksdale. This is an all day history lesson for me. Inside they have a wealth of information that makes you feel as if you lived it, displays, pictures and videos, organized and dedicated to the lives before us. Outside you can wander among the planes. Reading about our men and women that flew and helped to keep our country safe, giving their lives and making ways for our next generations to fly for freedom. I cant say enough about this museum and our military and civilians that died for our freedom. Thank you for the opportunity to be part of our countrys history. Whole place is legit. It showcases the B-52 class of airplane and has plenty to look at however there is no B-52 that can be entered. It would be a much better museum if we could actually explore the interior of the plane they spend the most time talking about. Other than that its a great museum.
This museum has a lot of history regarding Barksdale Air Force Base and the 8th Air Force. There are displays of uniforms work during various wars, a wide array of air planes to look at and some movies to watch. Bring your ID. Dont try to go on Sunday unless you have an airmen as a sponsor. It is a fun, free informative time! Kids and adults alike will enjoy it!
Mainly photos. Some small exhibits. However, if you are ever a little into this type of thing, it is worth going. The aircraft static display is outstanding! Many aircraft.
Great museum with very limited funding. Enjoyed the walk among the static display aircraft.
One of my friends took me to the museum and it was fantastic to see all the aircraft on display. If you can get onto the base it is worth your time.
Great place with all kinds of planes and bombers. Enjoyed by the whole family!
I have been here multiple times and still havent gotten tired of it. The tour guides are amazing and so is tge meuseum itself.
Cool very nice museum that us FREE! Be sure to expect being searched because you are on an active air base. Guards were very nice. Also expect to walk, the full size aircraft are spaced out for about a mile or more loop. Will go back again.
Your standard base museum, the aircraft on display are very nice and the staff is very friendly.
Shucks. I really fell in love with this place because the history it displays is remarkable, impossible to find or place anywhere else. I deeply regret a couple of things however. One, the general lighting is dim enough around the displays to be almost miserable. A number of times I pulled out my own flashlight in order to see details that were shadowed. Two, there were some items that were not maintained to the point of heartbreaking due to their worth. Specifically, the Norden bombsight, encased in a glass box covered display, has never been maintained and the rubber eyepiece has sublimated and liquefied to run down the side of the mechanical Optical structure. Shame.
Really cool aircraft on display and a nice modest museum. Would give it 5 stars however foreign visitors are not allowed unless accompanied by someone with a military ID. Had some family members visiting from Central America, really wanted to see the SR-71 on display, but only those with state IDs were allowed in. They had all the proper documentation (passports) but were not allowed to visit the museum or see the aircraft on display. This should be mentioned in the website - would have saved us a lot of trouble.Too bad since they traveled a long way only to be turned down.Would be nice if the museum was perhaps separated from the checkpoint as people who come to visit the museum could probably care less about being on the AFB.
Very informative. The Cub Scouts were enthusiastic
Not open on Sunday as indicated on their website. Went on Monday and was very disappointed. The person in the gift shop has a attitude problem.
An excellent museum. Great history!
Served at Barksdale for 4 years. Great base! If you have never been to the museum make sure to check it out if you are ever on base.

Stopped in to request assistance with finding some photos of OLD Barksdale. Lady at the gift store seemed very put out by my request. Told me to Call the base historian and ask them.
The lady inside was not friendly at all to adults or children but besides that very cool place to check out.
Great learning experience!!
It was alright, not much to see
An excellent look back at airpower and the changes it has seen over the years.
Brings back memories
One of the cooler spots on base to go to if youre into history.
