Fabulous park. I cant believe weve never come here. The parking lot was super packed and the trails were not. Plenty of room for everyone and loads of options and difficulties. Good for family fun also

Quiet and secluded. Restrooms are impeccable. Plenty of trees and grass. Great for dogs and children. Adults can have a good time too.

Good place for trekking and very peaceful to gather with friends! We spent our time together with friends having lunch and playing. Good for nature lovers.

Its always a nice hike! Doesnt matter which trail you take.

Hiked it and liked it. This time, Saturday March 21,on a nice, sunny morning, did Yellow to Blue to Paved Loop from main parking area. About 4.5 miles. Yellow blazes were a bit faint but still viewable. Trail was great, not too rocky. Fairly busy when we lifted off at 10:30. When we finished about 12:45 the lot was packed. Earlier the better. Great trails. Blue is a butt kicker at the start

Groomed trail, a couple of different ways to hike up to the top. Spectacular views. They had out houses even during covid-19.

Numerous trails and look outs. Easy access. Good sized state park.

All i was doing was walking through a trail for 30 min but, i liked the sound of nature.

Beautiful place to hike, picnic or even pick a spot and read a book. Away from the city yet very easily accessible.

I hadnt really hiked before so this was my first time and it was an awesome experience. The trail was a great distance for anyone looking to start out and was long enough to be a challenge and get a great workout. I definitely recommend for anyone looking to enjoy nature while getting some cardio.

A really nice park to take a walk on an old paved trail. It is not that difficult. It takes a little over an hour to walk the loop at a moderate pace. Make sure to keep an eye on where youre walking because people here seem to let their dogs poop right in the middle of the trail so watch out for landmines.

Great place to take a hike on a nice day

Love taking the blue trail to Lake Louise (more like a pond, but still pretty) and then climbing the steps up to the lookout. Beautiful mountain laurel on the trail in late spring/early summer. Nice elevation changes and variety of scenery, nothing too challenging.

Ive hiked at Penwood a few times now and really enjoyed it. It offers some challenging terrain but the views are worth the effort. Lots of parking and definitely a scenic hidden gem.

Nice state park with some hilly hiking trails. Very wooded with some wildlife to see. I saw an owl! Blue trail (Metacomet) is well-marked but make sure youre watching the blazes, since the trail splits several times. Beautiful view on Metacomet trail.

Many trails to choose from (easy to moderate). Loved hiking here!

Can take a path with either a crumbly paved road that goes to the lake ( good for kids or for a run) or can take some rocky trails that require a little more effort and give you some steep rises until you get to the top. I havent encountered any sheer faces. No hands and feet climbing. The tower up top gives some great views and is in a large area scattered with picnic tables. Can bring a snack or some lunch and then head back down.

Great place for a walk

Parking is limited on a sunny, warm weekend!! Great path for dogs or groups as many of the trails are wide for two or three people. Be sure to get there early, and avoid the crowds by taking the path to the left. When you are ready to turn back head up one of the bike trails to join the metacommet trail that will lead you back to paved path to the parking lot.

Great place for a walk. You have a choice of trails, including getting on the Metacomet, and paved surfaces. Some nice views in the Fall when the leaves don’t get in the way. There’s an area with picnic tables and space for play. If you want to do more, you can combine this with crossing the street and walking to the Hublein Tower.

Have the option to walk a paved walkway or use the Metacomet Trail.

The convenience and view of the Farmington river valley make this park great. Located within minutes of Hartford, Bloomfield, Simsbury, and Avon, Penwood provides hiking, biking, and picnicking at no expense. The walk to the Heublein tower is located right across the street and both parks offer a spectacular view of the river valley below.

Nice long trails. Mostly easy with little incline on asphalt trails. The blue trail has more ups and downs and the yellow cliff trail - though not as scenic as the talcott mountain cliff trail -is pleasant

Great place to go for a hike! If lot is full you can park along side or on the grass. Im a trail runner and I like the variable terrain; doesnt have any real steep vertical but its a good training run and you can go as far as you want. Has more exposed roots at times than Tolcott across the street so footing can be tricky when its wet.

Great for strollers. Trust me stay on rd not rock trails. They are nice but not for strollers. There’s a park at the end. It’s almost an hour hike/ walk really. depends on the nature and your child. Bring snacks and water. There’s picnic tables and open bathrooms at the end. Open rd for traffic certain times of the year. so be careful. 5mph I believe. Have fun and be safe!

A favorite of mine, multiple trails, one paved, with a nicely maintained park and pavilion located halfway through the ~3 mile loop. Blue trail also leads all the way to simsbury

Penwood is a great hiking experience for all ages. This happens to be one of our annual hiking rituals with friends and family. I would deem the trails to be of moderate difficult. The campground is a great place for camping. The view at top of the mountain is breathtaking.

Hiked up the yellow path to Lake Louise and came back on the blue path (Metacomet Trail). Stopped to take many pictures. Took about 3 hrs total.

Great riding and beautiful overlooks from the ridge.

Nice park for some day hikes.

Have walked the paved road many times but just began exploring the hiking trails in the woods. Clearly marked and vary from easy to challenging (on short sections), a great place to exercise outdoors in the winter.

Great trails for all hiking experience levels. From the parking lot: Beginner? Use the flat road on your right. Intermediate? Take the yellow trail on the left for spectacular ridge line views. Advanced? Take the blue trail in the middle to be immersed in the woods with steep trails. All trails converge at the same point at which point you can return on the same trail, pick one of the other two trails, or keep going farther on the Metacomet trail.

One of my favorite place to hike. There are a couple scenic overlooks. Around 4.8 mile hike, when you take the yellow trail and then go on to the metacomet trail back to the parking lot.

Trails need more maintenance, but its a very pleasant place

I love to be outside on the trail. Penwood SP trails are well marked and there is plenty of space to stretch my legs. Come here to get outdoors.

Beautiful park. Hiking trails are marked well, but be careful when following the blue trail as it connects to the New England trail and is the same color blue. Nice overlooks, lots of up/downhill. A little too rocky for me to jog.

This place is what it is. You could drive down a long narrow road, then have a picnic. You could probably hike somewhere too. Or just sit on a log and contemplate where everything went wrong, and how you got to this sad place in life.

The Yellow trail with ridge views is a must do. The Blue Metacomet when coupled with Yellow makes a great loop.
