The overlook from the parking area is well-known to locals, but the trails around this ancient Indigenous American settlement are the real beauties of the area! There are paved options as well as dirt trails (which are suitable for walking or mountain biking), and they all access fantastic views of the Missouri River bed. Theres also a small garden, as well as a small playground, both up at the overlook. The road to the overlook is not plowed in winter, so beware upon entering. There are no restroom facilities in this area, but there are garbage/recycling bins available. As someone born and raised in Bismarck, I highly recommend a visit to this area! Beware, however, as the gate to the access road is locked promptly at 22:00 (10 pm) each night.
There are multiple viewing spots throughout the park. The trails are undeveloped but well used, clear and easy to follow. A recently repaved road and parking area keeps the sunset viewers a bit more organized.
Looks like a very nice place to take a walk, and let the kids play and also learn about the Indian community that was there a long time ago.
Best view of the Missouri River in Bismarck. A special spot to watch the sunset. The flower garden is beautiful all summer.
Nice place to relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the Missouri River!
Good place to have lunch
Beautiful view and tons of different trails to walk down
Its a great place to go explore and enjoy the scenery
Great place to walk around and get some exercise. Lots of interesting information about the Native Americans from the area, if youre interested in that kind of thing. Many Poke Stops for all you Pokemon trainers! Plenty of friendly people show up at all times of day. Also, theres a playground within walking distance for the little ones.
So heartbroken. They changed their signs that they had for people to read. I remember one of the signs spoke about how there was a lookout tower, where they practiced hunting, where they played games and what kind of games, etc. Now its all boring info, and they replaced it with who owned the land after the natives. They made it all about the white people after it and the architects. Im white and I hate this! I want to learn about the people who originally lived here not the old white guy that bought it afterwards! Now all of that information is lost for future generations. They just took it out trying to hide that this wasnt always white land if you ask me. If you knew what the signs said before you would be just as mad as I am. Absolutely disgusted.
One of the best trail systems in Bismarck, lots of ups and downs, and phenomenal views. It connects to the college trails, as well as the river road trail.
Great park, walking trail, informative signs, and gardens. Stopped here briefly to eat my lunch. No picnic tables but plenty of benches. Shade is minimal
