Went on an amazing ghost/history tour tonight. The lady who runs the tours does a great job. Its so cool to see the old jail and constructions from the 1880-1920s!

I enjoyed the exhibits and the friendly staff. I enjoyed learning about MT artists. I was pleasantly surprised at the free reigning styles of the artists. MT doesnt strike me as doing other pieces than stereotypical Western stuff. Kudos to the museum.

Frankly I was blown away by the Yellowstone Art Museum (YAM), which is built inside the former Yellowstone County Jail. The caliber of the exhibits is very high at the largest contemporary art museum in Montana. This is the kind of museum you could spend hours in easily, learning something new in every gallery. There are exceptional exhibits inside the museum. Not only that, but the docents are extremely professional and informed. I found a lot here that was extremely educational and inspiring. Yellowstone also has a school program that encourages local kids to make art and then it is displayed inside one of the galleries on the lower level. Love that concept because its smart and nurtures a love of the arts.

The exposure of local artists is a real gem here. Browsing the various pieces in the ever-changing displays is a treat, in addition to the overall design and upkeep of the building. They also have a great gift shop with lots of fun items, many of which are made locally. They also hold various fun events & celebrations. YAM is a must if you visit Billings.

Such an interesting place to be for those who love art! I love how it’s organized and I love how it focuses on the artists AND the art. I came from Minnesota to visit Billings and this was a must see

I hope to improve this rating soon. It changes depending on the art exhibits. Lately they havent been great, but in the past Ive seen amazing art that made this place come alive and deserve 5 stars. I really appreciate the events they hold and I like the curator.

A lot smaller than I initially thought, but great art pieces nonetheless. Would definitely recommend if you have an hour to spare. Student discount available

I love the buildings architecture. But most of all I love the area it’s in. I recommend highly if you come to visit spend some time outside the museum observing the people and culture of billings. Take your family and have a picnic on the front lawn and enjoy some of the most beautiful sites and people in Billings.

The YAM is a very nice, modern museum but also very cozy. They have a good collection, although small. I enjoyed my time here! Plus, entrance is only $6. My favorite part were the three screened video wall. It was such an unusually pleasant experience. Ive never experienced video in that way before!

This is a wonderful museum. It exhibits Montana artwork as well as traveling shows and special loans. Lots of programs for kids and adults and a great place to work and volunteer.

Best way to spend a rainy day...or any day.

They often have cool pieces that Billings would never see otherwise (we had a Van Gogh last year!). However, the space for art display isnt huge, so theres often not a whole lot of new stuff to look through if youve been there once or twice. They do have a separate art vault that is sometimes open to tour, and sometimes they host some really cool events here (everything from fancy masquerades to DIY punk music festivals).

Ive grown to really appreciate this place as I get older. The exhibits change frequently enough and they always do a great job of featuring local artists. In the summer its a great place to cool off and take in some art.

This is a beautiful building with a lot of history to it. The art exhibits are always great and the staff are always friendly and seem genuinely happy to be there. The events held here are great... especially the Halloween ones.

Small, well organized, travelling exhibitions are usually interesting, annual auction is excellent. Cafe is excellent.

This is a really nice art museum featuring tons of local artists and are very high quality. The rooms are generally themed and as you walk through the various rooms both upstairs and down, there are interactive displays to help keep the little ones busy. Staff is friendly and informative. The price of admission makes it a perfect 1-3hr visit while exploring downtown.

Featuring both local and traveling shows, The YAM does a really good job of making art available, and approachable. Many exhibits offer family entertainment.

A definite must see if you are traveling through Billings and have a few hours to spare! Very cool building and great art exhibits!

It really is a beautiful place. Im not much for art museums, so I probably cant appreciate it like others. I dont know that I would have paid to get in so Im glad they offered a free day. I appreciate that. The art was pretty, but I felt like it was lacking somehow

I am quite impressed by the selection YAM has curated. Although a small museum, it integrates names that carry weight in the western community (such as CMR, Waddell), as well as internationally acclaimed artists (Miro, Basquiat). Any art enthusiasts will appreciate the museums selection regardless of their stylistic preference. Additionally the gift shop is full of fun odds and ends, gifts, and prints for sale.

Growing up in Washington, DC I went to every Smithsonian museum multiple times and can be a bit of a museum snob. Greatly impressed with the YAM !!! Loved the building, the exhibits and the staff was wonderful. So glad I was able to visit your museum, you can be sure it wont be the last time.

Huge contemporary art museum for Montana. I enjoy the different exhibits each time I go to Montana. I also like some of the permanent outdoor sculptures, including the spinning thing.
