The location of this hotel is wonderful! Located on the harbor with access to trains, trams, boats, and walking. It is also one block from the cruise ships. The restaurant in the hotel is excellent. The staff are helpful and cheerful. The rooms are luxurious and have great views. I will stay here again, and I will highly recommend this hotel to others.

Clean, comfortable and cozy room. Bed was great. Hotel is in good shape, felt safe inside the hotel, parts of the surrounding area are a bit sketchy at night. Lots of food and coffee options down the street, close to a Target! Would stay again, but wasn’t blown away. Did not receive any VIP benefits or upgrades, which was disappointing, but overall a good stay.

This is a lovely hotel in the heart of Berkeley. The room, while small, was nice and comfortable. The absence of bottled water into the room was one missing element they need to correct. This is a European style hotel, perfectly situated. My room was small, but jewel-like in its perfection. An incredibly comfortable bed, nice linens, good use of space. The bathroom was beautiful, just perfect and spa-like. The staff was helpful and welcoming. My wish: eliminate the plastic travel size toiletries and get compostible glasses for the water cooler out front. Also, complimentary coffee in the lobby would eliminate the need for eco-bomb Keurigs in the individual rooms. I am trying to reduce my plastics use so, thats where the latter comments are coming from. I really enjoyed my stay here and would certainly like to come back.

Amazing location with numerous delicious restaurants and lively bars within a very short walk. The University of California, Berkeley is only a couple of blocks away as well. The staff is friendly and accommodating including the bartenders and servers in the first floor restaurant Zino. The rooms are nice, clean, and updated but not exactly spacious which is to be expected in a hotel over 100 years old. The layout of the floors can make the hallways a long and winding walk to or from the elevator but absolutely helps to reduce noise. The best review I can give is that I stayed here for a quick business trip but absolutely will find time to return for recreational purposes.

Great location, the building looks great the lobby is fantastic. The rooms are really nice and have plenty of room. All of the staff were incredibly friendly. My only two issues are theres no fridge in the room, and the A/C in my room hardly worked (even called to have someone take a look). It wasnt just my room either, another co-worker had the same issue. Overall it was a great place.

Great hotel in the heart of Berkeley, CA! The hotel was very upscale and nice. Loved that it was right around the corner from Jupiters (check out my review on this place too)! My only complaint was that my room was pretty tiny and my view out the window left a lot to be desired. I was the only one in the room, so it really want a big deal, but if I was traveling wife my wife it would have been more of a problem. My friend that I was traveling with said his room was bigger, so it might just be the luck of the draw.

I am currently in room 300. It is literally right next to the elevator and is so noisy that its impossible to rest/sleep. I called the front desk and, despite the fact the hotel has 199 rooms, there isnt one for me to move to so I can get some sleep. I do not believe the staff telling me this.Dell Dellinger - that is not good enough. Maybe you, the GM, should try staying in this room.Addendum: I asked to speak with Mr/Ms Dellinger. S/he never got back to me. All her/his posts in reviews appear to be corporate virtue signalling.

*1/13/20 - I had a great check in, until I had some issues later they wouldn’t let come come down to get any towels or bring any towels up, I had a flight that made me check in late and I relaxed and hopped in the shower after midnight.. it was just the attitude and I knew they probably were able to be able to let me grab (Come down and get a few towels) or bring me a few towels.. I only had 2* towels and the floor was too wet for me to get out, so I called for extra towels, and night staff isn’t the most professional.. other than that the day shift and everything else was great.

This Hotel is a fabulously well-appointed, centrally- located property in Berkeley. Our first experience was just terrible, yet upon my sincere list of issues sent to the Room Manager, he offered to accommodate us on our next visit. Having never done something like that, I actually was pleasantly surprised when the Hotel Manager not only comped a room for us one night out of our stay, but sent a delicious fruit and cheese plate with sparkling wine. Hospitality at its finest! And the hotel welcomed our two Champion Bichons, donating a portion of the fee for their stay to the Berkeley Humane Society which I appreciated greatly. We had a room with a view of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. The stay was more than expected and perfect for a Valentines Day long weekend.

We liked that the hotel was older and had charm. Our room was not cleaned properly and there were someone elses clothes in our room in the drawers that someone looked to forget. The manager finally came to help, but we were there for much longer than needed.

Just off of Shattuck Ave, this hotel is well located but we found the room slightly shabby for the price: marks on the carpet and the bathroom walls, light wear to various furnishings, a torn towel, a mediocre shower.Supposedly we had a corporate rate - it was approximately $240. I would expect more for that price. The halls are extraordinarily long here - as one often finds in older buildings. We had to walk through 3 sections to get to our room. I didnt care for that either - and didnt find charm sufficient to warrant the walk (I want to be clear that I love old hotels - so the age of the Shattuck isnt the problem).I found the front desk when we checked in very cool and not terribly welcoming. I found other staff to be friendlier during our 3 day stay. The lobby bar was hopping in the evening, so if thats something youre looking for - it is a plus here.

Theres nothing about the room that I can complain about (aside from the lack of fridge/microwave)We got stuck in the elevator when my room key deactivated (extended the stay for another day and my old key deactivated). The doors wouldnt open and when we tried to call, the person on the other end disconnected. Ended up pounding on the door until staff let us out. The morning of the 27th started off with the Keurig coffee maker not working. I was informed on the house phone that their was a Starbucks near by.. It being a cold day I did not feel like walking and paying for a cup of coffee where there should have been a fresh pot in the lobby like most low budget chain motels. II went down to the lobby and they gave me a bitter cup of black coffee at the restaurant Going back upstairs. I was locked out of my room because the key did not work. The man in the lobby seemed to be more interested in his computer then helping me with my problem. He tried to reprogram my key card after the 3ed round trip the he came up to help me and the key did not work for him. After three tries he finally managed to open my door. He concluded that the door had a run down battery. Most hotels and even cheap American motels have a handy man on call to repair defective items. Also I had to turn up the room thermostat to high to make the room above freezing. the previous night. So much for old world charm. I will say that the food for my evening dinner in the restaurant was good if a bit pricy. I will say that the lobby was nice and the rooms clean but sparse.

The room was nice but they charge 100 dollar incidental which is steep, but would have been okay if they also didnt charge me for the stay plus the incidental and then my friends card was charged for both as well. we asked to put the incidental on one card and room charge on the other and they did both. we had to call and fight it and because the charges are pending neither of us have access to that money. they told us they should fall off in 5 to 7 business days. thats a decent time to hold almost 500 dollars from someone.

Rooms are expensive! When we checked in there was a problem with one of the elevators and the card reader so it only would work 50% of the time. They did get it fixed though. The room was beautiful and comfortable. The air conditioning didnt seem to get cool though. We woke up in the middle of the night, both nights waaay too warm. All I wanted to do was find a place to sleep for a couple hours so I dont drive after drinking. When he finally came to the door he asked if I had a reservation and I said yes and proceeded to ask me to show him at the door. Meanwhile I am outside at 2 am . We appreciated the offer to have complimentary drinks at the hotel bar. The room itself was well appointed. The furniture was new and tasteful. We did find that not having an in room fridge was a negative-- we like to hydrate. But it wasnt a deal breaker. Finally, if there was one thing we found weird, it would be the check in area. Without a big reception desk, we felt a little out of sorts when we entered. But maybe this layout also gave the hotel a more laid and modern atmosphere.

I’m very meticulous about the hotels I check into. Every big and small detail has to be perfect. Unfortunately, I didn’t get that flawless, Instagram-worthy experience at Hotel Shattuck Plaza (it’s in Berkeley). There were a lot of things that didn’t go well in this hotel, but I’d have to say the missing welcome bags took the cake. For me, welcome bags are a hotel’s way of showing appreciation for their guests. The fact that Hotel Shattuck didn’t give us any goodies made me wonder whether the management really cared about their guests or not. I can’t even begin to share all the other nasty things we experienced during our stay. They were not that accommodating, some of the facilities weren’t working well, and there was just too much noise. That’s the first and last time I’ll ever go back to that nightmare of a hotel.
