Came here with a friend who got free tickets to a choir performance. Pretty decent sized hall and there were lots of different tiers for seats. They have a cafe out in the mezzanine that allows you to buy wine and food. You arent allowed to bring the food into the hall though.
I bought a ticket for a Flamenco show at the Zellerbach Hall. I picked great seats, close to musicians and dancers, looking forward to a wonderful evening of Spanish culture in Berkeley. I arrived early, had a beer at the venues bar and nibbled some comfort food in anticipation of a great show.Once I entered the auditorium, the front row seats I had purchased did not exist. I was told that the ticketing office sold the tickets by mistake. What? And that I could go to the ticket office to get a refund. I waited at the ticket office for more than 45 minutes before I received the refund. No apologies given. Really? However, I received the phone number of the director of the ticketing department. I left several messages. She never responded and displayed total disregard by ignoring my concerns.I then contacted the Executive and Artistic Director of Cal Performances. He also preferred to ignore my ruined evening as if it was not anything he should be concerned about.I have been at the worlds greatest venues for cultural and classical performances. I had never bought a ticket that turned out to be invalid and ruined my entire evening. And I had never encountered such a severity of disregard by entirely ignoring my effort to reach out to them.
The music, the performance, the colors were pretty good. The story line for some performances were funny and humorous. The only bad thing I was say is the acoustics in the building we were in. The sound was very mono due to lack of good speakers. I sat in the middle of the theater and you can tell the music was only in the front. My suggestion is to see it where the theater is modern or up to date. Overall a good show.
First time to Berkeley and Zellerbach. Enjoyed watching Shen Yun on stage. The theater was clean and well maintained. The seating was a little tricky to see the stage. My entire group of friends couldnt see the entire stage without bob and weave movements to see around the heads of the people in front of us. The difference between new construction and classic theaters is seat placement for unobstructed views. Good sound system and acoustics. Even the bathroom remodel was up to date and clean. Glad they have such a nice theater on campus.
Went to the Ethnic Dance Festival. A great venue for the show. Weve been going to the Ethnic Dance Festival for 25 years and it is tremendous. A way to draw people of all ethnicities together.
The concert was very good. A nice mixture of music from the civil rights movement and renowned black musicians from the 40s to present day. Took BART not realizing how far it was to Zellerbach Hall.
I went with some friends for the video games live symphony. An event I highly recommend for those who like video games or those who like symphonies or both!To start off, parking wasnt too bad. The parking structure closest to the event was full when we arrived and we arrived 30 minutes before the show started. Must not have had a lot of parking to begin with. So we parked one more structure over. Which was a few more blocks from the event. Less then 10 minutes walking. Didnt pay for parking so I cant tell you how muchNext, the bathrooms were clean but a bit awkward at least for the mens room. They had two stalls ( maybe three?) And about 4-6, urinals The smaller stall had a urinal right in front of the door so whoever used the stall had to wait for the person at the urinal to finish and move over so they could get out. I had the opportunity to be the person coming out of the stall. The staffing could of been better. For example during the Intermission (20 minutes) and getting snacks and drinks. There were only 2 registers and 4-6 people handling service which was just fast enough to serve about 30 people total. It was so slow and I felt sorry for people waiting in line as they didnt get to purchase anything after waiting in line for about 20 minutes. I waited 15 minutes and I was about the 10 person in line. The stage and lighting was impressive for smaller venue such as this. Nothing impressive but it definitely added a nice touch to the performance. The seating was comfortable with padding but personally I thought the seats were on the smaller side. Reminded me of the seats in a movie theater before the new recliner became popular.Overall I would say the venue is nice but could be much better. I would come here again for other events.
Situated on the Western edge of the UC Berkeley campus, Zellerbach Hall is an easy to access venue for Cal Performance events. Built in the late 1960s, it has a clean, modern interior with a typical auditorium seating arrangement. Make a reservation pre-event for a light meal or a glass of wine. There are several public parking lots nearby - street parking is scarce.
What a spectacular venue. Great sound. Wonderful seating everywhere. The bar-snacks spot has good food and wine.Ushers have always been courteous and knowledgeable. Then you have the incredible performances. Nothing to say beyond spectacular. All in all a wonderful experience.
Always a delight to attend an event from Cal Performances! The venue is great and there are always great performers and speakers. Highly recommended!
I saw the Shen Yun dance performance here. Such a great venue. The whole experience was great - including the sound and lighting. I hope to see more performances here soon.
Zellerbach Audutorium on the U C Berkeley campus is a fabulous place to see dance or attend the symphony. The Joffrey Ballet was there on March 8 and it was a beautiful combination of classical and modern ballet pieces.
Views from seats are good. Backups at elevator happened regularly with people having to wait long times for it. Stage seemed worn.
I loved the performance in UC Berkeley. It also had some beautiful areas to be in!
Nice theatre, located on the beautiful UC Berkeley campus. Great patio and two levels in the lobby as well. Great ushers for programs and leading us to our seat.
Wonderful programs that open up to the best in the worlds of music, dance and theatre. The venue has great acoustics and comfortable seating. It’s also very accessible by BART. The increased number of matinees is very helpful.
The Joffrey ballet was excellent, i loved the performances, the sets, the colors, the costumes, the dancers. the building is lovely
Shen Yun was beautiful and exciting. Such grace and acrobatics. Close parking and great locale.
Performance was beautiful done really well done with nice outfit dances was butterfly dance love it.
Great music (Mozart) and dance. The piano duet was especially beautiful. Dancers amazing, of course.
Love Cal performances! World class talent at a local venue.
Nice performing arts theater with three levels and a variety of different events. I went during Golden Bear Orientation, so there were events such as a hypnotist, a comedian, and a magician. For those thinking about which GBO events to attend, the late-night ones hosted by Cal Performances are much more fun and interesting than the other GBO events.
This is an amazing place to catch a show. The atmosphere was electric even if it was a million degrees
Beautiful venue. 95° outside...and probably inside as well. Need to work on the AC, however its Berkeley and I was there on the rare 90°+ day.
Great theater. Amazing performances. Friendly staff and in the heart of campus.
Great music, beautiful venue, lots of independently owned restaurants nearby. Traffic was a bit tricky, what with the endless stream of collegiate sporting events crammed into such a small town, but I guess thats what rideshare is for.
Bathrooms were a bit dirty. Seating is very narrow. A man refused to get up while I was passing to use the restroom so he got a lap full of my backside. Saw Shen Yun Chinese ballet here. Dont expect to be let back in during the performance pieces if you get up to use the restroom. Youll have to wait after an applause. This may vary for different events. I didnt have a choice because Im pregnant and needed to go atleast 4 times during the show so it was not fun waiting to get back in the theater. Didnt know there was a cafe upstairs. Signs would have been helpful. They were fully staffed that evening who were professional and courteous. For that reason alone, they recieved morw stars than they should.
We attended a terrific performance by the Kronos Quartet featuring high school aged students who played as well. We began with a delicious light dinner before in the Zellerbach Cafe, on the halls second floor. Very convenient and affordable. All in all, a great night of music.
5 star all the way. Cafe talk after the show was fun and added a lot to the experience. Wondering if we can see more local artists here...
Saw the Joffrey Ballet. Amazing.
Such an amazing venue here in the East Bay.
Zellerbach theater what an amazing place every seat is a good seat there are no bad seats there I was there yesterday to see my daughter graduate and was amazed by the access the exits always going to an enclosed area and look for the exit in case theres a problem you know what I mean this is definitely nice place to see a play Hamilton whatever they may be producing at the time highly recommend if its at the Zellerbach theater that that you go in at end thank you
Lazarus is an outstanding new work. Creative and emotionally moving. The troupe is of a high caliber. I was thrilled by their performance.
Comfortable older concert hall located on the UC Berkeley campus right off the top Bancroft. Adequate parking within 2-3 blocks. Good acoustics.
The small auditorium type venue is an exceptional place to view a concert.
Always eye opening, world class performances.
The venue is really nice and the seats arent cramped and the food is ok and you can get beer and the place has great sound and.... There is no parking. Downtown Berkeley at the University on a Saturday night for a show in the University music Hall and they close off the University parking garage. Did I mention it was raining. So had to walk 3 blocks. Not horrible but the only downer.
Mark Morris Dance performance at Zellerbach Auditorium in Berkeley. Soothing and beautiful.
Its okay. We recently went to a performance and the room was so stuffy. No air filtering through. Good seats are everywhere though it looks like.
Warm vibrating lively place wonderful experience watching ethnic dance festival
Great performances with very artists including classical music, plays and multimedia works. Ticket prices are high but there are student and modest senior discounts.
Really nice theater. The play barbershop chronicles was very good. I would revisit this place again.
Amazing. The performances are all incredible. Very nice space with good parking. Good options for food nearby too.
Parking can be very difficult so allow plenty of time to find parking and still make it to your seats on time. This is a nice theater and there are plenty of workers to help you find your seats and restrooms. Dont sit in the orchestra unless you get a front row seat. All orchestra seats are on the same level and it can be hard to see over the people in front of you. They also allow late entry so late comers trying to find and get to their seats can be extremely frustrating and distracting.
Been watching shows here since my college days more than 40 years ago. The venue is great, the shows that they have performing there are varied and world-class. Much cheaper and easier to get to than those in San Francisco venues.. MUCH CHEAPER, and in many cases just as good or better.
Bright spacious concert hall with good acoustics and comfortable seats.
I’ve got a lot of good memories here.
Fantastic venue, with outstanding talent booked: we are fortunate to have this level of entertainment locally! Almost anything booked here is worth seeing.
The Ethnic Dance Festival is, as always a wonderfull show. And this, the 41st year was batter than ever.
Amazing, no matter which show you see
The performance with the UC Berkeley Orchestra was fantastic.
I saw SF ethnic dance groups and they were great.
Great venue in the UC Berkeley campus. International cuisine all around. Short walk from downtown Berkeley BART. World class performance!!!
Loved it perfect place for St Marys college high school graduation
Good venue with great capacity and surprisingly good acoustics. Faces the same problems as many downtown venues of poor parking.
Awesome! Video Games Live w the Cal Symphony !
We saw Cloud Gate Dance Theatre performance here a few times. Really like to see more.
Depends on venue and seating. Beautiful setting. Historical arena. Acoutics can suffer if you are in the nosebleed seats. Lol
What a wonderful experience !! Looking forward to next time!!
As a subscriber to Cal performances I visit Zellerbach regularly for dance and music productions. It is a great theater with comfortable seating and great sound. This last performance was the Japanese taiko (drumming) group, Kodo.
Spacious hall and has good acoustics
Beautiful auditorium that for a couple thousand people. I mainly visit for university and community events, including local performers, acapella showcases, and even a computer science lecture when all other venues on campus were entirely too small for a 2000 person class.
So many good peformances here, check out their show schedules
Had the opportunity to see the Alvin Ailey Ballet..It was Wonderful waited a long time to get here
Wonderful accoustics and sight lines.
Love Eifmans ballet and this one was no exeption. Great choreography, dancers costumes, light, everything! Parking is awful as always in Berkeley
Mahler Chamber Orchestra was a delight! The front rows of EE and FF put you right next to the musicians but those rows are not for long legged people who need a little room. The Cal Performances series is an amazing opportunity to attend world class performers!
Saw Ailey camp performance, amazing young people!
Really cool place with excellent seating arrangements
Saw THE HARD NUT, a parody of The Nutcracker. Spencer Ramirez inspiring performance in the Mark Morris Dance Group was so incredible. Zellerbach Hall on the Cal Berkeley campus is the perfect setting for this laugh out loud 70s themed take on the classic with the Tchaikovsky score. A must see holiday treat for all ages.
Well designed - great seats and sound
Helpful ushers, overpriced concessions. The facility itself is very good, only thing you need to be wary of is the wine selection, cheap and extremely overpriced. Well, I expect to be fleeced at concessions, but at least have a good selection. Besides that, everything else is on solid footing. Extremely helpful staff, and selection of performances which puts SF symphony to shame.
Phantastic cultural events! Dance, music, art.
Just saw the Kodo show One Earth Tour: Evolution at Zellerbach tonight.WoW - Stupendously amazing performance. We sat way up almost at the top of the balcony (highest seating area) and the sound quality was excellent. Of course we couldnt see the performers well from there, but still got a great view of the overall performance pieces. And very fun encore! Thanks so much Kodo! And to Cal Performances for keeping them as regulars on your annual roster.
Performance was great. The venue showing some sign of age and parking is tough to find.
Always a great experience when visiting this place
This is a great venue, great acoustics and features some really amazing performances. Just saw a group of Taiko drummers
AFX showcase is 100% worth it. Go see it this semester!!
Cirque Eloize was great
Ethnic dance festival. Wonderful.
Saw Shen Yun. Excellent experience. Must see if you get the chance. You will not want to miss this
We sat up at the balconies for Alvin Ailey show and had an excellent experience. The cafe/bar service during intermission is very swift.
Some really beautiful concerts are organized here. Architecturally, the auditorium is not exactly beautiful, being largely concrete based. But the acoustics are great, the seats are reasonably comfortable and views of the stage are good in many places. Nice bar area for the intermissions.
Watch out for parking. Remember you have to pay to park even you dont see a sign. Dont assume its free.
One of the best places for the performing arts on the West Coast, no question
The London Philarmonia and Esa-Pekka Salonen were stupendous!
I love the place itself. Although I was let down by the performance from the Chinese ballet Shen yen. Not as dynamic as the commercial suggests.
This was at the Zallerbach Hall. Its a beautiful theatre at the heart of the UC Berkeley campus. Also, the performance, Caliedoscope, was pretty good.
Always amazing performances. Beautiful space
Awesome performance by Ustad Zakir Hussain and team!! Loved it!!
Awesome performances. Student discounts are killer
Nice venue.
