One of my favorite theater companies of all time. Professional. Creative. Fairly easy access. You will be glad you went.
Wonderful theatre with well regarded plays. We saw Becky Nurse of Salem there having been recently to Salem, Ma. It was funny and well written and well acted with a small, talented cast. Lots of parking structures nearby and you can validate your parking ticket.
Saw Becky Nurse of Salem. Wonderful, witty and thoughtful!Another great evening with Berkeley Rep!
Great place to see a smart, small show on fascinating topics. Mostly riveting performances.
The Tale of Desparoux is a wonderfully crafted production. While it may be based on a childrens book, it is fully engaging for adults.
Berkeley Rep consistently shows innovative stories. The Good Book was excellent - an interesting & extremely entertaining look at the history of the bible through the eyes of a female atheist religious studies professor and a devout young catholic man struggling with his identity. Trust me, the play is much more entertaining than my brief summary.
I have only amazing things to say about Berkeley Repertory Theater. I have never been disappointed by anything I have seen here. I cannot begin to recommend it strongly enough. if youre in the East Bay for any length of time at all, grab tickets and see a show. You will never be disappointed.
Always a great show. Thought provoking, intelligent theater.
Saw White Noise here, a very engaging and thought provoking play! The venue is very nice with a great view of the stage from every seat.
Season tickets here are half off if youre under 30! Their seasons are phenomenal and creative from a whole range of perspectives. They also have great collaborations with writers in New York and have done several performances that made it to Broadway!
Love the Berkley Rep. Yhank you for making the east bay a better place.
This theater is a wonderful place thats within financial reach of most and host to top quality spectacles worthy of Broadway and other world renowned theatrical venues. Im so lucky to have this one within my area.
Love seeing plays here. Productions are sparse but profound
Theatre that will change you. Inspiring. Creative edginess. Awesome. Two theatres, Peets & The Roda & in between, a beautiful courtyard. Concessions counters as well as Michaels Second Act bar. Visit soon!
Wonderful theater, well laid out, with great programming.
Every seat in the house is good. Well located near public transportation and good garage parking. It would have been five stars if only there were adequate restrooms for patrons, especially women.
Almost every seat in their two theatres is a great seat! They offer a lovely combination of intimate space and major productions. You can often catch performances here before they head to Broadway.
Great venue, sat in front row of mezzanine, while watching, listening to Paradise Square -- musical, historical play depicting an unplanned and diversified neighborhood around the early 1800s whose quasi-success eventually falls victim to the usual challenges of ethnicity, race, class, greed, and divide and conquer politics. Enjoyable and also hard to watch. Comfortable seats, kind helpful ushers and welcoming. Oh, did I say it was cold outside but incredibly warm inside? Thanks Berkeley Rep, you got all of it right!
Dont miss the 19-20 season. Despereaux, African Mean Girls, the Avett Brothers Swept Away, Happy Days with Dianne Wiest tickets are still available
Roda Theater was very nice. Not too big, so you are close to the stage.
Thought-provoking theater performed by well-trained actors guided by inspired directors.
We have had a subscription to Berkeley Rep for many years now! The best place for theater in the Bay Area!
I didnt hate it. It was great. The Good Book was very well acted and author wrote a great piece.
This is an amazing and underrated theatre but hosts some surprisingly high quality shows. The musicals here are excellent and I particularly loved Paridise Square they have other excellent productions!
Paradise Square was fantastic! Great performances by a large and talented staff. Excellent song writing and compositions!
Thought provoking theater, excellent acting
The theatre is beautiful and the shows are spectacular.
Such GREAT performances and plays! With exceptionally talented actors, plays, staff and volunteers. We r soooooo LUCKY to live nearby so we can go frequently. We also love going to ACT and Magic. I also happily worked with a travelling theatre troupe Dakota Theatre Caravan. In South Dakota!!
This is a comfortable theater. The play I saw was excellent but they may have duds: I dont know.
Theatre area is good. Other areas get way too crowded and its worst when people are rushing to get to bathrooms during intermission. I can understand urgency of floor level folks who cant delay as they must be reseated before curtain up. Any upstairs loos? Would be helpful in reducing traffic downstairs. New parking lot across street has fab disabled parking. M
Be careful to arrive early because there was a long line and only one person to help in the will call window
The acting is excellent. The plays are on the cutting edge of creative theater.
Very nice theater with a friendly staff. I would highly recommend.
We thought the performances in Paradise Square were incredible, and the play/musical has powerful resonance with todays political and social situation. My only complaint is ticket prices--I know that they have to support the activities of Berkeley Rep, but prices close off the theater experience to most people on a low or modest income.
Love this theatre. Always interesting offerings. After five or six plays, Ive never left without being completely in awe.
Cutting edge theatre. Can be Excellent, Good, bad or ugly (few and far between but does happen). Set design extraordinare...always impressed with.
Hot summer tour was okay I enjoyed myself.. Hope they have a even bigger turnout next time.
I saw Angels in America with a group, both parts of the play. While the play, direction, stage/set & props were awesome (truly awesome), the seats are small, rows are narrow, and theres only one bathroom to handle the entire theater. Couldnt get in at the intermission because the line was so long. And they dont allow you back in after the show starts.
This is such a nice venue for theater. Both theaters are a great space to see things and Ive enjoyed different works in each. The subscription process was easy, I chose the 3 shows I wanted to see and that worked out well. I love the photo opportunity and the outdoor courtyard. Very easy walk to lots of preshow dinner. And while we didnt have a great experience in the lot they are using now for parking, Ive gone several times recently and found excellent street parking without too much trouble.
Berkeley Rep is a jewel in this city. Always amazing productions. I saw an outstanding one woman play called Pike St tonight.
Its a nice experience.
The Berkeley Repertory Theater needs handrails for the stairs. It is very dangerous walking up and down to your seat.
The Rep has always been a great showcase of talent in the Arts. But now that Ive been ushering a few years now, Ive seen many shows. And what strikes me the most is the diversity in content. They have all been thought-provoking, beautiful, moving and timely. The Courtyard is beautifully lit at night. The bar is super cute with great cocktails. Definitely go early to hang out in either place before the show. I also like that drinks are ok in the theaters as long as they have a lid or cap. Also, the tix are cheaper for people under 30 to encourage the younger crowd but just GO AND SUPPORT THE ARTS! Art saves lives.
There are two theaters that comprise the Berkeley Repertory Theater. I prefer the Peets theater over the Roda theater. They are both next to each other. There really isnt a bad seat in the Peets theater. It is much more intimate.
Solid performances at this theatre. Ive seen Monsoon Wedding and The Temptations. Both performances were outstanding. The actors and staff put a lot of work into their productions, you can tell. The Theatre is big and quite nice. The rooms are small, which is perfect because even if youre sitting in the back, you get a clear view of the stage performance. Recently, theyve started to extend the discount to include everyone under age 35 to lure in a diverse audience. Its definitely working. Take advantage if you can!
Another wonderful night. Thanks Berkeley Rep.
Such creative, awesome people. Entertaining and engaging always!
Had a great time watching the kiss my aztec show, theatre has a very good cosy vibe, and we brought our own food and ate during the loud parts of the show
Nice small theater, sat down front, it was awesome.
Good theater. Clean well run venue. In the heart of Berkeley’s theater district.
Every time I see a show here the quality is amazing
Best live theater outside of New York!
Great play - Metamorphosis. Great seating plan allows view from every seat.
Fantastic local theater, punches above its weight nationally. Plays vary from cerebral to punch in the gut, often in a single show. Intimate, well designed stages, not a bad seat. The only downside is you tend to be with people from Berkeley ;-)
Paradise Square, the current production is a great historical musical. The dancing alone will take it to Broadway. A must see!!
Great Wave was a great show.
The theater is great! Maybe the audience is too intellectual for its own good.
Great theatre, seems all the seating is perfect (even upstairs). The only drawback is that the one restroom is located all the way at the opposite end of the lobby from the handicap service elevator to the mezzanine, so its quite a hike. I saw Angels in America there and the performances were outstanding, but being partially disabled I found it very difficult to navigate my way to and from the restroom (and stand in an endless line for the mens room while in pain and with a cane), and get back to my seat in time during the intermissions.
Often thoughtful, leading edge plays. I always leave, looking forward to the next play. Near a BART station for easy transport.
Berkeley Rep is a true Bay Area institution, and for good reason. For decades, they have sustained a level of quality that matches or surpasses anything West of Broadway. Everything from Shakespeare classics to this years hot new plays, or anything in between. And right in the heart of Berkeley with its great restaurants and the UC campus.
We are long-time subscribers to this live theater house. Each season brings thoughtful, provocative, and charming productions - a great mix of reworked classics and original debuts. The Rep now has two stages, doubling each seasons enjoyment. Plus a newish lounge to hang out before and after the show and enjoy a cocktail and a treat. We look forward to our nights out at the Rep!
Great venue and plays. Awesome time
I loved the show. The theatre and staff was great!! I thought the cast was better than the London cast which my son and I saw and will definitely come back. Everyone should.!!!
The theaters are small enough that even the nosebleed seats offer a good view. Consistently good shows every season... A good mix of genres that appeal to divergent tastes in theater.
Love this theater, the food and location
Every time, they nail it in terms of visitor experience. Regardless of whether or not I care for the production, I am always impressed by how well BR curates its shows. Currently playing Monsoon Wedding and the coordinating concessions delighted me. It feels like youre being transported when you step into the lobby.
Office Hour at Berkeley Rep Theater was outstanding! It was a moving thought-provoking look into all the possible factors driving school shootings.I was afraid it would be depressing and gory but it wasn’t. Instead it made you look at many truths and societal dynamics we are afraid to look squarely at. It also helps you realize there are many different factors driving misdirected motivation to shoot and encourages you to look at many perspectives.
Theyre having a great season - Paradise Square and Metamorphoses are both well-worn seeing!!
Saw Angels in America here. Beat theater Ive ever witnessed. Roda Theater was great, we were in the back row of the balcony but the performances still felt intimate and immediate.
Paradise Square was absolutely excellent! The Roda theatre is comfortable and cozy.
Great combo of the feel of a major theatre company and a small intimate space.
The best theatre company in the Bay Area, hands down. Integrity, strong production values and keen insight into the material that is likely to engage an audience.
We had the pleasure of watching Amelie (also 5 stars!) preformed here. What a great theatre. The staff greeted us with a smile and helped us to our seats. There is also plenty of food and drinks to be had before the show starts if you wanted to come a little early. We really enjoyed the outside seating area.
Amazing place. Moving sets, spinning stage, good acoustics, awesome actors.
Gatz was a waste of time and money
Great theater! Only complaint is the lack of senior discounts.
I was lucky enough to see Angels in America on a marathon day. It was incredible! Staff was great.
Unique theater alto become more commercial in recent years...nissing some authenticity it once enjoyed...
Just wonderful and easy to get to on public transportation.
Just the best theatre in the area.
Great venue for a show. I took my fiance here to see Amelie and we were blown away with how good the cast was. Also, the stage is very alive active. Cant wait to see our next show. If youre under 30, you can get discount tickets.
Enjoyed the musical!
Very good plays, initiate spaces.
Easy to get there, very confortable.
A number of years ago I was invited to attend a performance of Passing Strange at Berkeley Rep. They gave our group a nice little wine reception beforehand and spoke to us about how they were interested in getting younger people excited about and attending theater. Their demographic skewed pretty old. I moved to Europe and back before attending my second show there. It was American Idiot, the Green Day musical... and the theater was buzzing with younger attendees. I was so happy for them! They had done just what they set out to do. I started attending more and more and now I am a season ticket holder. I live most of forty miles away, on the peninsula, and I almost always get caught in awful traffic on my way there but I dont care. Its my favorite theater in the Bay Area. The parking garage right across the street is only $5 if you arrive after 5pm (pro tip: insert a credit card on your way in instead of taking a ticket and then use the same card to get out, skip the pay machine!). Dining options nearby are plentiful and wonderful. I like Comal, Revival and Build best so far.
Fantastic local theater in the heart of downtown Berkeley. One of those treasures that makes Berkeley such a special place. Bart accessible.
Consistently great shows- relevant, meaningful, and always beautiful.
Easy to park - no bad seats in the theatre and the play White Noise was executed very well.
Mi Tierra is a great grocery store known well by the community. Although it is mostly frequented by Latinos, it is open to everyone. This store holds fresh products, ranging from fruits and vegetables to meat and fresh baked break. It also contains house hold products at a cheap price. Not only that but it has overall good employees that are friendly. There are some inconveniences, but it will have most of what you need.
One of the best theaters in Bay Area
The facilities here are gorgeous, the staff is wonderful, and the shows are magic!
