One of the best gems of Berkeley. Two options for sake tasting. Our presenter was amazing and was very informative. It was a great time mixing with others at the tables. 10/10 and would return again ! Best for holidays with the family.

A real unexpected gem. This place is a working and modern factory but has a small museum, an optional video that shows/describes the process and some great (and generous) tasting options. In our case we were hosted by Tomoka and she was knowledgable, happily answered all our questions and made the whole experience fun and relaxing. I absolutely recommend this place - go if you are anywhere near the area. If you think you don’t like Sake - then I’m pretty sure you will be able to find multiple you will like from the tastings. In our case we even got to try the same sake at different temperatures and see how the flavour and aromas totally change.. a hit!

Came with four people, all had a good time. Generous amount of sake for $10 tasting flight. Museum was small but informative and video was short enough. 15% discount on sakes purchased after tasting, walked out with 3 bottles for $20.

This place is awesome!Stopped by for the sake tasting with a group of friends. Its something to do in Berkley, and actually pretty fun! We learned everything about the sake brewing process and even got to sample some of the different sakes this place produces. The reason I didnt give it a 5 star is because there were times where the bartender was spread so thinly among all the customers that it was hard to get questions in and really learn about the sakes. Regardless, it was quite the experience and I recommend anyone who is in to brews to give this a shot.

A very nice place. I dont think many people know about this place since they dont advertise very well. For 10 dollars you could try a variety of sakes. I definitely know more about how sake was made and the variety of sakes. It is worth giving a go.

They got my friends and I in even though they were busy- if you’re coming on the weekend for sake tasting make a reservation ahead of time! Fun to learn about the sake making process and then taste a bunch of different kinds. A great start to your evening for only $5 per person! Fun place to take visitors from out of town.

Great place to go if youre in the area. They have $5 sake tasting, where you sample a variety of types of sake which are explained to you in great detail. You can buy any of these and additional types at the location. There is also a sake museum which contains a lot of traditional sake making equipment, and details out the process of making sake. An enjoyable experience, and takes less than an hour to go through the whole ordeal.

4.5 star. Great place to educate yourself about sake making and to taste a good variety of sake. The tasting is eye opening. The bartender knows a lot about sake, and is accessible and helpful. Ive been drinking sake for years, and now I finally know many subtleties between junmai, ginjo and daiginjo. 0.5 star for the decor and seating. The place deserves a better looking and they can at least put some chair at the bar.

Weve driven by many times and Im glad we finally visited Takara. They offer a 15 minute movie about the sake making process and entry to the small museum for free. Tasting courses are $5, with many options to choose from depending on your preferences. We learned a lot and enjoyed the tasting. It inevitably led to an intense craving for sushi, and they conveniently had a map of Japanese restaurants in the area.

While at the Cherry Blossom Festival in SF Japantown, my friend and I discovered theres a local sake distillery in Berkeley. WHAT?! I know, super awesome and worth a try. Did I mention that a full tasting, which includes a mini-museum and movie that shows the entire distillation process, that culminates in a 7+ shots--ALL FOR $5.The owner gave us full description of the different types of sake, the history and present process, and curated a tasting like any you would find in Napa or Sonoma. If you are looking for a great afternoon at a discount, check this place out! Also, a bottle of quality sake from this place costs $11.

Ive been to several wine tastings in Napa, Sonoma and elsewhere, but never been to a sake tasting room and museum before. Its a nice, bright minimalist space with high-ceilings. They did a good job of having an instructional video on the sake making process. It is interesting that they have the option to show the video in Japanese as well.At the tasting room, which is a very small standing area, you start by choosing from a short menu list of different sake tasting flights. Besides the flights, they also give you a couple of additional samples to taste as a way to promote their new products. So its a pretty generous sampling of different sake. We tried the (A) Variety course and (C) Ginjo Course. The Premium Ginjo was very good. I really liked their new Mio sparkling sake and the Hana Lychee flavored sake. It was a good, low-key mini-trip in Berkeley.
