I have primarily gone here as a guest with my family to just hike the trails. I must say, the trails are surprisingly well maintained & scenic. I would never have thought such an outdoors place existed if it wasnt for my outdoorsy family. Its a great getaway from everything relax the mind & enjoy neature. You do have to pay, but once you see what they have to offer its worth it.
Very cool, huge urban forest. We trekked for hours and probably only explored 15-20%. Wouldve liked to have done the Tree Rush but no open-toed shoes allowed and the kids were wearing sandals. More directional/location signs would be helpful, as our group and two others that we saw ended up on the train tracks wondering which way to go. Still overall a great time, plan to go back. Should be beautiful in the fall.
Amazing boardwalk experience and hiking on trails. Enjoyable walk between long trees and dense forest, perfect place to spend time with your loved ones, highly recommend in summer to nature lovers, bird watchers. They have got some rope activities by Tree Rush Adventures, I did not get to go on myself but it seems an exciting adventure. It s worth spending your time and money at Fontenelle Forest:)
My family and I had a great time here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, we received a free one-day pass from the library to go. The trails were fun and we all had a great time exploring the forest. It was very busy but thankfully we found a close parking spot, and there was so much forest we were rarely close to other people. The only thing that I wasnt a huge fan of was seeing so many birds locked up in caged. Other than that it was a great family adventure day. Also it would have been fairly cheap if we hadnt received the passes for free.
Fontenelle is a break from reality. It was nice walking around with my family in early Spring. We enjoyed our visit and hike and plan on returning in the fall when the leafs change colors. I was raised in Nebraska and can remember vaguely coming to this place when I was a child. It was nice to bring my 3 year old son for the 1st time.
The TreeRush experience was amazing!! My 9 year old daughter and I completed the 2 yellow and 2 green courses which are the beginning ones, but dont be fooled, even those were challenging and fun! Staff were very helpful and we felt safe at all times. Will definitely go back!
Beautiful forest! Weve enjoyed hiking, or just a gentle stroll on the boardwalk especially with a toddler and when youre in the 3rd trimester. Weve seen deers and other wildlife, which is amazing! Got the family an annual pass, and its well worth it if youll keep going back!
Tree rush was a great experience. Everyone is super nice and patient. We took our almost 12 and almost 13 year old boys and did the yellow, green, and blue courses. Definitely a great way to spend the morning! The trails are great for hiking, too.
Only downfall in my opinion is the price. $7-9 per person seems quite steep. (I checked out a pass for free from the Bellevue public library) That said, its a very pleasant experience. The trails are well described on the map and it wasnt crowded at all, even though it seemed like a busy day. The raptor exhibit has very pretty birds, and I havent done Tree Rush, but it looks like a very fun zip lining/climbing experience, geared towards children. If the price isnt a deal-breaker, I would definitely recommend.
To anyone visiting Omaha or living here if you have not visited this place you are missing out on nature and a serene and soulful experience you will get by walking through the woods. The decked trail is a landmark in itself, during fall season the whole forest looks like something from the medieval times, the air is so fresh/pure that it invites you take deeper and deeper breaths specially when it drizzles the fragrance of the forest is everywhere. The annual memberships support the forest preservation for the coming generations, even if you are not a very outgoing person I do invite you to take a walk in the forest atleast try the decked trail as a starter and you will not regret it.
Great place to hike, and the raptor exhibit alone is worth the price of admission! Very helpful staff as well
Cool forest Boardwalk is a mile long. Great way to get some exercise on a steamy morning!
Beautiful trails that really helps you get in touch with your nature side. One of the best parks in Omaha by far.
Become awed by nature! Great trails for beginners or experienced hikers. Tree Rush is a blast & extremely safe! Aerial obstacle courses for all ages & levels of agility
Good trails lots of wildlife and is one of the best places to hike in the area.
We went to the cabin venue for a wedding reception so not in Fontenelle Forest per say. But the cabin was great. Nice quiet place for a gathering
Tons of fun! The staff was great. They were very helpful and the environment was safe.
Beautiful place to hike and its awesome that its in town and super convenient. Its so much nicer than just walking around my neighborhood.
After being in Omaha for many years (having grown up in the Appalachian Mountains) I finally joined Fontenelle Forest to get some nature therapy. I never knew how nice a forest was hiding close by in Bellevue. The boardwalk is definitely a good way to enjoy nature if you have mobility issues and it is expansive. I was headed for the back woods to get some distance from civilization and was not disappointed. I was lucky enough to see 4 groups of wild turkey and more types of bird than I could identify. The forest was alive with wildlife and wildflowers. I saw deer sign and a large group of some type of bird of prey enjoying a thermal over a ridge. The forest was mostly quiet with, except for birdsong and the occasional plane from Eppley Airfield. Got some good views of the Missouri River and a glimpse of downtown Omaha. The nature center was nice and the art gallery there had some interesting treasures. I cant wait to visit again soon.
Very elegant trees, plants, shrubs, animals, etc. One thing you could do here is take a walk. Or embark on a hike. It could be nice n slow easy does it, or a challenging danger filled journey. It really just depends on what kind of adventure you lookin to get yourself in to. And oh man, dont even ask me about the wildlife, cause Im bout to tell you about it either way. So, I cant tell you exactly what wildlife creatures you will encounter on your visit, mainly cause it just depends on the time of day, and because I want you to be suprised, so nope, not going to spoil it! But I will say some are friendly. And some, well... Some definitely are NOT. So word of advice- might want to sniff an out before reaching for pets. For real, theres a reason you see them with their nose in the air, literally sniffing you out. And you best follow suit and stay sniffin any new wildlife encounters along your way. Cause like I mentioned some really put the wild in wildlife. Enjoy the Forrest!
Great place to hike. Reasonable entrance fee for non-members. Very helpful staff. The Raptor Recovery Area and zip lining are a blast!
Fun trails, mile of deck to take a stroller on, never got a tick, and wears the kids out.
I love going out there every time we became members it would be nice if they fix up a little kid area though
This was first visit to Fontenelle and it was a good experience. We got to hike a few miles on a cool and calm day. Cant believe I hadnt taken the time to get out there sooner. Im not an outside/hiker kind of guy, but we enjoyed this. My daughter had a blast and I think weve found something that she could love doing.
I went because I displayed artwork in The Baright Gallery. The Gallery was really nice and alot of wonderful artwork. I ventured outside and was amazed at the Adventure park, which I want to try. Then I took a brief walk on the trails, it was so beautiful and peaceful being in nature. On my way out I also visited the Raptors, beautiful birds that are being rehabilitated.
Even during COVID there is a lot to see and do. The live bird exhibit outside is really cool, and the boardwalk and nature trails are open. The TreeRush ropes courses are a great time for a family trip or even a couples date.
Beautiful! I only had time to explore a small bit and cant wait to see more!
A great place to get out hike, see wildlife, and enjoy nature.
Beautiful forest! Our family loved hiking here. The trails were very well marked and easy to follow using the provided maps. We saw lots of wildlife on our hike including turkey and deer. The forest is so big that we were often alone on the trail which was nice for our big group. The nature center and play areas were great for the kids. Dont forget to stop at the Raptor Recovery Center while youre there.
Been coming here since I was a boy. Just took my 3 year old daughter on the stream trail upto horshoe lake and the lake trail to the observation tower... then the boardwalk back (Boardwalk is a little messed up right now... but manageable). Havent seen that many pelicans/cranes in years! Didnt see any blue heron this time though. Love this place... even with my daughter freaking out cuz the trail grass is taller than she is... we both loved it anyway!
Beautiful. Accessible for everyone with raised paths and dirt paths. A great get away.
In my opinion Fontenelle is the best place to go to clear your mind and get lost for awhile, especially with socially distant options at a minimum elsewhere. Very clean and well maintained, polite staff and of course abundant flora and fauna.
Fontinelle is a great little getaway in the middle of town. Nice, well groomed trails, wildlife galore, and a new ropes course are all available.
A wonderful nature hike with the family. They also have affordable yearly memberships.
A wonderful respite from the chaos of the city.
Very good outing with family. A little pricey, but a fun COVID friendly outing.
It was really great going there during spring time the trees are super green and the wind is chilly enough to make you feel so comfortable. We saw wild turkeys all over the place and lots of birds too. The lake is there but not to magnificent I was more amazed of the Green hills and trees. In going there make sure to bring water and their map coz their trail is not that short just enough to get you confused .. we paid $22 for the entrance since theres 2 of us and all adult. The nature center is cool but just simple one where you can see the information dear, bathroom and a small lounge. They also have a place for kids downstairs that has lots of games related to whats in the Forest. They have the recovery center for the owls and birds who got injuries. The birds there are really pretty and beautiful. Oh and this place is great for kids too so educational.
At first the price kinda put me off. After going it was definitely worth the price tho. Trails were well maintained and marked. They have trails for anybody. Boardwalk was a nice easy stroll. Nice interactive play area for the kids. We didnt get to walk all the trails, but the ones we did were beautiful. Lots of song birds. We also seen a deer and a turkey with her babies on the trail.
I am a big hiker and love the outdoors so spending time at Fontelle forest just makes my heart happy. The people that work here are so friendly and helpful. Walking on the boardwalk is a great way to get exercise and being surrounded by trees and my love of animals is always a great day for me. When the weather is good and the trails are not too muddy I am always in the forest hiking. There is nothing better than being with nature and the only sounds you hear are the birds and the leaves blowing with the wind. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.
Took my boys and my friends children with us a few weeks back. Even though it was a tad chilly there was a lot of interesting things to do and see.We also loved the ability to pick your own trail. It was really neat to be able to go where we wanted to see what was there.Just be warned if its rained at all some of those trails will be very slick!
The entrance cost isnt ideal, but it goes to a good cause. Nice network of trails. You can either taking an easy stroll around a boardwalk Im the trees (a little over a mile) or you can venture out on more moderate trails towards the river. Definitely worth the visit to unplug.
Great place to connect with nature. Bellevue residents can get free entry through the Bellevue Public Library by checking out a day pass.
Fun and great exercise for the whole family. Weve had a membership since our son was a baby. Wed use the stroller on the boardwalk while our son took his nap. Fast forward to 4 years later, its perfect exercise for the whole family and tires him down before his naptime. If we want, we can go off of the boardwalk and explore the trails. When we remember, we bring our binoculars to check out the wildlife. A hidden gem in Bellevue.
Nice place for a visit and getting outside. Great for hiking or getting away.
Tree rush was super fun and definitely worth the price!
Great location for a day hike for a family with kids or solitary retreat. Beautiful scenery. Lush vegetation. An opportunity to unplug.
Great way to get some outdoor activity.
Its a good place to relax as your looking at wildlife, on the cheap side too
Very pretty area, but WAY too expensive. Should be an option for people that only want to walk the trails, because spending 11 dollars for an afternoon walk is absurd.
Surprising hidden gem in Omaha. really great system of trails, also has a very nice boardwalk that can be walked by all ages, wheelchair accessible. The raptor refuge is also very cool and educational. Would definitely recommend.Had an amazing-looking ropes course, did not get to go on at myself but it looks like a lot of fun.
It was great except for the extremely rude man that yelled at my 4 year old instead of speaking to me about the situation. We love our adventures here.
Great family fun. I would highly recommend.
Great place for getting back to nature right here in the city. There arent too many places left around here that are a short drive from home and you can walk for miles without a car in sight. Easy to medium difficulty trails with a good sized boardwalk for those that would rather stay out of the dirt. The new raptor display is a great chance to see some pretty amazing birds up close. One of my favorite places near Omaha to hang out.
Very relaxing trails first time here!
A little pricey but a nice place to hike and take the kids.
So pretty! Nice place to get out of the sun!
Very pretty and peaceful early morning walks
Very pretty lodge. We have enjoyed many hikes through the forest also.
Great family fun. The outdoors at your door step. Had a magnificent time bird watching here.
I love coming here to walk through the trails. A good variety of trails, but I would not encourage taking most trails with smaller children. Stay on the main path if you have small children. The staff is always super helpful in explaining the rescue birds and animals that have recently been brought in for recovery. A great place to teach children about how we should respect predatory birds because of the major role they play in the ecosystems of Nebraska.
Beautiful trails to hike on with lots of options on distance.
Loved it! Nice walking trails, easy for stroller. Good for exploration and play. Great for hiking and seeing nature. We got a membership.
Had a fantastic time helping out at Fontenelle. The people here are amazing. The trails are well kept as well. You can visit the raptor birds as well and learn more about these birds of prey. This is a great way to spend the day with family. Well worth the visit.
The Raptor Rehabilitation display is awesome and a great service to the bird of prey! Enjoyed the trails the boardwalk and watching the Treerush Zipline adventure park activities.
The worst customer service Ive ever received! They interrogated me about my dog and refused to believe my answer even though I offered to show them paperwork. They didnt care that I had questions, or have any interest in answering them. It was all about my dog and the fact he didnt have a vest and nothing else. They have lost my entire familys business and my husbands familys business. My service dog was not on the job I wanted him to have a simple walk to enjoy himself on. They do not deserve anyones business if all they can do is be rude and judgmental!
Great place for photographing wildlife. Insects, owls, birds, turtles, frogs, etc. Miles of trails meander through the bluffs and river bottom. Nature center has some great informative displays and a small gift shop.
Loved the trails and the rescued birds or falcons. If I have a slight complaint it is that it seems a little bit expensive for what it is.
The best place. The boardwalk is kept clear in the winter, every other season is pure magic Go by yourself, with a friend, or with the whole family! Extremely low rates for yearly memberships! Had a membership for over 15years with no regrets
Great place for walking in family and enjoy the nature... amazing
Nice clean area wide open spaces lots of good staff that were great helpers
The ropes courses are amazingly fun. They can be very simple or extremely challenging. The staff is amazing in helping you understand the equipment and the techniques for the course.A ticket buys you access to as many of the courses you want to try to attempt. Its truly an all day event with courses for little kids too.
Signs and manteinance could improve. Excellent to work out, huge park.
It was my first time visiting in the winter and I found just as much peace as I did in the fall and summer. Its actually less packed but if there is limited windshield I would recommend going, but of course dress warm. You can even rent snow boots if you want to venture off of the boardwalk path.
Visited for the first time last month. Great place to wander pathes and enjoy nature. Would definitely recommend bringing bug spray!
Very cool place to visit. The staff were welcoming. They have electric wheelchairs to borrow if needed that can go on the boardwalk portion of the trails. This is a great place to go for a relaxing walk or hike. They offer 16 miles worth of trails! I will definitely have to return to check out more! While there we checked out the sanctuary which was pretty cool and nicely constructed to give you a close veiw of the birds. The downstairs is an entire play area for kids, so be sure to bring them along, too!
It was nice. Stayed on the wooden trail.
Although our intent was to walk around, the obstacle course gave something for me (a mild athlete) to enjoy.
Beautiful, well marked and maintained trails. Helpful staff, saw several deer.
A beautiful expansive area. While still beautiful and full of wildlife (different birds, squirrels, deer, etc.) in Nov/Dec, I cant wait to come back in the spring.
We had a blast exploring the forest!! We received free admission through their Blue Star Museum program for military members and their families up until labor day. We enjoyed the views and almost got to be a part of someones engagement (hopefully the answer was yes!!) Visit if you have the opportunity!
Such a great place to go with family or alone for a relaxing time. Fall time is beautiful!!
I went on the guided history tour with Judy. She was informative and kept the hike interesting. I learned about the property and even some hiking tips! It was a beautiful hike even in the middle of winter. There were several turkeys and lots of animal tracks across the trail. I cant wait to do it again and highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys the outdoors!
Live hiking at Fontenelle. Great dor bird watching too. 20+ miles of trails to explore.
Did the Tree Adventure; it was fun and challenging but theres a few areas of improvement. Maybe some lockers would be nice so people could store their stuff and some better water options. Other than that, it was a great time and I recommend it for all. Just steer clear of the hardest courses unless you are in decent shape, its no joke.
Tree Rush is so fun.
Wonderful place to visit with the entire family. Make sure that you are dressed to hike with comfortable shoes and bring individual water containers! You can park outside which is a residential area.
First visit. Disappointed, no access whatsoever of wetlands or even a view!Seems to me closing it indefinably (since last March) because of high water suggests a lack of imagination. Flood and high water at times is a natural state of wetlands and shouldnt be an easy excuse for NO view at all. Whats wrong with this picture? Id love an explanation....Instead I find a fancy visitors center and raptor facility. All trails appear to be steeply downhill. Oh yeah, and a commercial Treerush amusement park. Understand how the value of attracting visitors & revenue. It seems to be an infidelity of my expectation of a place listed as one of the top ten birding spots in the US....The Center lacks the expected panoramic view from the bluffs. Had to visit the camp area north to see that.I signed up as a Patron upon arrival. I have second thoughts now. Besides my donation, I offer my candid first impressions.
Very dank,magical also nice.
We’ve been here twice and had two different (and amazing) experiences. The first time we traveled the boardwalk with my young son. He very much appreciated the kid area. The second time he was a little older so we traveled a lot further into the trails. It was so amazing to be surrounded by the trees and flowers and so many bird sounds. The bird exhibit was also very cool! We had a wonderful time and ended up members so we can enjoy Fontenelle Forest more frequently.
Beautiful! Loved the easy to navigate boardwalk styled paths...weelchair friendly. Theres also benches along the way to rest. One of my favorite nature spots in omaha. This park has tons of fun events...like yoga! What Im trying to say is thetes something for everybody. Definitely visit Fontenelle Forest!
Beautiful place to go for a walk or take kids to play in their many child friendly play areas.
What an amazing place with a great history! Fontenelle is a must go to place for those who love nature. They have an ADA boardwalk as well as many other trails ranging in difficulty. They frequently host educational events and are completely non profit even though they are privately owned. The rangers do an excellent job taking care of the forest and training the volunteers that help.
Went to the beer on the boardwalk. This was my first time there and it’s beautiful there I will definitely go back just for the forest. Now the beer was enjoyable and the food served was yummy but I was very disappointed that all the vendors where just on the patio. I expected them to be scattered out on the boardwalk. I am thinking that this may have been due to the rain, so I may have to check this event out one more time when there is no rain.
Great place to get away. Trails have a nice variance in difficulty so you can bring the kids or go solo on harder trails. The raptor recovery center is also a great place to visit.
Great nature trails in a pleasant forest, good exercise. I am impressed with the events, bird exhibits, and especially the tree rush adventures, a highly technical rope and platform climb. Overall a good afternoon for the outdoors sort.
