Just read his 1961 Okeechobee HUzrRUCANE and the Hoover Dike book about EYEWITNESS account of August 1928 hurricane- great detail, made me feel.like I was there- so realistic...2000 persons perished in 1 hour!
What a hidden gem! I found this archeaology museum entirely by accident. My family wanted a road trip adventure so I researched museums near Lake Okeechobee and found this place. We were not disappointed. Typically, a museum of this size you can blow through in 30 minutes, but we ended up spending 2 hours there. The young archaeological student working the museum was brilliant, knowledgeable, courteous, and charming. I cannot recommend this museum enough, and be sure to leave a big donation since theres no admission.
Gets better every visit. Love our local history and artists.
What a cool, little gem of a museum. Really keyed in to trying to integrate local info to the public.
Amazing local museum around the Lake Okeechobee area. At this place we saw photographs exhibition from the National Archives depicting scenes of a younger America at work, America at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the gamut between. This museum tells the local history, which is important and different from the east coast history that people are used to. Visit.****
