I visited this location as part of a Wheres Waldo search for local businesses. The property is well landscaped with adequate parking. The paths on the grounds appeal to all ages, and there are restrooms and administration rooms on both floors of the main building. The activity rooms display numerous taxidermy items at varied heights. However, this building is more geared towards families with younger children; a toddler gate guards the top of the stairs to help safeguard overly eager and independent visitors. There was a birthday party in the larger downstairs activity room during my visit, and the employee took particularly diligent care in her interactive wildlife discussion to keep both the children and parents engaged. She introduced the group to a variety of live creatures in a safe and controlled manner. She also led the group on a nature hike that concluded at the picnic area for the actual party.During my exploration of the building and the grounds, I was able to observe various natural habitats and animal enclosures. I had a peacefully wonderful walk on the paths, which was well shaded. I passed several gates to the grounds, a playground, and viewing areas with paired benches at strategic locations. My walk took about 30 minutes. I plan to take a more leisurely walk of the grounds in the near future.

We went there for the bubbles and more play day. It was a bit crowded, because lots of families were interested. My daughter loved it. Im not sure what it is like during other parts of the year, but we had a good time exploring the house, pretending with the toys, and coloring. They had one of their snakes out, and the handler did a great job. Normally my daughter is terrified of snakes, but (eventually) she not only touched the snake, but insisted on coming back to it again later on!

Great place to let kids explore nature material, read books animals, engage in pretend play with puppets and see live animals.Programs for kids w Mr.Erik are amazing - entertaining and educational not just for kids but adults as well. We drive from sugar land and it is well worth the 30 minute drive. My daughter also loves the playground outside on the other side of the park - it’s got sandbox, pond and slides.

Great place to visit with your kids. A good place for bird watching. There is a nature park with kids play area, sand pit, a pond with nets, play house etc. Not so crowded as well. You can find few benches around the park. The nature trails goes around the park. They have their own parking lot. One near the nature discovery center and other one near right opposite the Evergreen Park, small one but manageable. Has a restroom near the nature center.

The Nature Discovery Center was a great place to have a family day. Our 4 year old son loves going there and playing in the sand area thats down a trail from the house where one of the two parking lots is at. The house has different nature learning rooms, coloring sheets, and books as well as clean indoor restrooms. There is also a covered outdoor space and bathrooms outside. Its free too so thats amazing. We may become members to support it though.

This place is really cool. I came for my nieces birthday (6) and there are covered picnic tables with fans, small animals like bunnies and box turtles, play areas for the kids and plenty of room for the kids to just be kids. We went inside for the learning portion where the staff taught the kids about pollenators and then helped the kids to plant seeds they could take home. It was the perfect venue for a butterfly themed birthday party.

All three of my children love going to the Nature Discovery Center to play at the playground, stroll the nature paths, and explore the buildings multiple activities. We recently threw our daughters birthday party at the outdoor pavilion along with a puppet show, and the staff and amenities were amazing. I have found this center to be an amazing gem so close to the city. It is nestled in a wonderful and very safe neighborhood. I have visited the grounds on numerous occasions to see the animals and just to get a healing dose of nature. They have done such a great job with this place. There are numerous paths for walking and sitting areas to relax and rejuvenate the mind. A large volume of bird watchers frequent this park and they have a board on which they track sightings. The bathroom, hand washing and water fountain amenities are really nice and there is a large area for birthday parties.

This is a wonderful place for the kids to learn and explore. Rooms filled with interactive, physics based activities to a water contraption that is full of interactive things to do that will keep your kids busy for hours. It has a place where kids can do things like shop for groceries to learning more about saving electricity in the house. When everyone gets hungry there are great options for lunch. A rainy Saturday or an after school outing this place has it all to stimulate your childrens mind and body.

We have participated in many other programs, and this program is one that combines the right amount of science, discovery, play, and adventure. Eric, from day one welcomed my son into the group in such a way that he felt he always belonged. My son looked forward to Thursdays over any other day of the week. That is due in part to programming but also equally a reflection of the friendships he made there with his instructors and the other students. Please continue to do what yall do, and do BEST!! We are looking forward to summer visits to the center, and of course the fall courses!

Russ Pitman Park is a gem in the middle of Houston with a lovely nature trail, cypress pond, pocket prairie and 32 Eastern Screech Owl boxes mounted in mature pecan trees. The natural atmosphere of this urban park, owned by the City of Bellaire, makes it inviting for families and young children to walk and discover the seasonal happenings. Complimenting the park with a superb educational program for all ages is the The Nature Discovery Center, headquartered in the handsomely-renovated Henshaw House. Park improvements in the last year have added outdoor restrooms, event pavilion and improved trails for outdoor classroom experiences or individual discovery. Very similar to the Don Greene Nature Park, 6009 Cypress Street, Houston, TX 77074, which was established in 2016. Founder Hana Ginzbarg, who the Nature Discover Center is named after, was close friends with Houston Outfitter Don Greene.
