The kid area was great. Had been there once at the Halloween event so went back. My boyfriend used the bathroom and made a comment how clean they were. I said yea Greene county usually does pretty good at cleaning them daily or least few times a week. Then I took my 4 year old in the womens. I was shocked!! The 2 small stalls werent flushed, one actually had something (other than waists) in it. We go into the handicapped stall n see this... So gross! Got my kid asking me what it is.. But other than that ... Great time.
Very nice reserve. Lots of walking trails that take you through nature and lots of interactive things for the kids to play with. I enjoyed my time here and shall return
A little on the small side for my usual trips with the doggo, but a very very nice park in any other regard. There are 6 or 7 different trails throughout, with lots of educational tidbits on plaques along the trails with info on the local plant life. There are at least 2 kids areas that im aware of; I havent had a good look at those areas but judging from what i have seen and the quality of the rest of the park they are fun looking interative educational play areas. Highly reccomend this park for all ages if you want to see a lot of of unique stuff without having to walk. I think we lapped it 3 times and we went about 3 miles total
Beautiful trails, fun kids play area. Easy walking/hiking, no major hills or mountains but plenty of beautiful scenery! Definitely recommend this trail for beginners.
It is a beautiful tell to life and growth after destruction. The tornado ripped so many trees down but nature has grown over and made it a sanctuary once more. I saw so much wildlife and magical little things to watch. The part of the park that looks so whimsical is the play area made up of wood items. Me and my little ones had so much fun adventuring here. Its a little hidden treasure.
This is a nice little park. There are at least 3 trails that are fairly short (~1 mile). The trails are well kept, but unfortunately the tornado last year took out a lot of the trees. There is a little play area for kids too.
Great place to see remnants of the tornado from May 2019. An apiary with working bees surrounded by fields of goldenrod
Our kids loved it. Park made of local wood, refuse. Great idea and fantastic time for the kids.
One of the larger-ish parks in the area. No running rivers or anything big like that. Just a quiet place with a nice trail system. Not as nice now (2020) since most of the big trees were destroyed from the 2019 tornadoes
I’ve had a lot of people recommend us Parkway. So this past weekend, my husband and I brought the kids here for the first time. It wasn’t too long before the sunset, but we at least got the lay of the land. If you really want your kids to enjoy an all natural jungle jam, this is the place to come! There are a little log cabins, a sandpit, a little rope climbing wall and I’m sure there’s more but I haven’t yet discovered. We can’t wait to visit again!I’ve heard that this place suffered quite a lot of damage last year during the tornado. But they’ve obviously cleaned it up as nothing feels destroyed.
Great hiking and natural play scape for ages of children. Peaceful and fun. Make sure to bring bug repellent! Land was given to county parks in 2008, and volunteers have worked hard to make this park great. Portable toilets are what they have right now. A work in progress, can’t wait to see it all done.
Loveliest preserve in the area. By far.
This park is amazing! It has many different wooden structures for kids to play on and hiking trails for exploring. I recommend this reserve.
Russ nature reserve is a beautiful park, with plenty to see for a great family experience. It was hit by tornados last year, and seeing how nature has regrown where the trees were uprooted is very mystical.
Russ Nature Reserve is a wonderful little gem of a park that I discovered only recently. There are a number of walking loops of varying lengths, which allow you to go for a simple loop of 0.3 miles, or jump from path to path in your own adventuring of any distance, really, that you like. The Naturescape provides an expansive wilderness play area where the wooden constructions allow for a forest-like play experience, while the cleared dirt surroundings prevent what would be a number of scrapes and potential poison ivy encounters in many other forests. Additionally, there is a sandbox area where younger kids can play safely, with nearby picnic tables for a timely lunch break. There are informational signs along some of the trails, discussing some of the resident nature and wildlife. If you pay attention, you might be able to recognize the flora and fauna that isnt described by a nearby sign too.I would certainly recommend this park to people of all ages, as the trails are distant from the screams of playing children, and the meadows, forests, and wildlife of the surrounding area can be breathtaking. Children have a number of options for learning and playing, and parents have as many choices from places to sit and talk, as older kids play, or sit closer, where children can be watched as they play tic tac toe, or checkers in the wood-craft boards in the naturescape.
The Pancake in the Park event was wonderful! We loved breakfast, learning about maple sugaring and most of all - playing outside! You all have done an incredible job in the months after the Memorial Day tornadoes.
Beautiful trails and a great playground for kids!
Good place to run and explore
Russ Nature Preserve sustained significant damage to the forest and the old Russ home due the 2019 Memorial Day Tornados. Greene Co Parks & Rec has spent the last 6 months clearing debris and demolishing the home and now the trails have finally reopened. You can now see straight down the hill to Beaver Valley Road from the parking lot. The tornado took a straight path through the woods and largely destroyed the forest. The play area, butterfly garden, restroom facility and prairies are still intact and are worth visiting. It will take many decades for the forest to recover.
Sorry to see so many of the mature trees downed by the May 2019 tornado. But even so a beautiful park! Great trails and a large kids area!
I wish there would have been a end time posted on Facebook. I saw the start time and where they mentioned things going on the entire night but I didnt see an end time and that was disappointing for me because the line to get in took an hour and a half and then all the people giving out candy for trick or treaters were leaving and things were shutting down by the time we got in. So that sucked but the walk was amazing. And we all got a free pumpkin to take home. Any design we wanted we could just walk out and pick it up and take it home so that was pretty cool. My kids really liked that. Im hoping to go back next year and maybe Ill have the day off so I can get there earlier.
A really great place for walking and for kids to play.
Peaceful place in town to get away and walk around through the woods. Also features several playscape activities for the kids. A good time for all.
Post tornado recovery still underway but significant progress.
Great place Pancake Breakfast and Sap/syrup day wonderfully tasty
Beautiful! My daughter loved it!
Perfect combo of nature, play, and fun
Small but best trails for walk
Really nice
We went for the pancake breakfast (very tasty) and then played in the natural playscape. Kids had a blast climbing ropes, hoping from tree stump to tree stump, and walking along fallen logs. If your kids only enjoy plastic play places with slides, dont bring them here.
Great walking trails. So sad home was damaged during tornado
Russ Nature Preserve is a great place! There are several miles if interconnected trails, signage for different types if plantlife, and a great natural playground for the kiddos. Very unique and tons of fun!
Beautiful Park. A must see
We had 5 kids with us today, they had lots of fun. Even the one who normally wines about being in the woods had fun.
Fresh air Nature park.
Scenic, quiet, has a trail path.
Very cool outdoor rec area. Several trails for walking or short jogs, longest being 1 mile. Mostly unpaved. Very large natural playground that my daughter loves!
Our favorite park that we have been to so far. We love everything about it. The tree trunks to climb, the sand boxes, trails to walk, wooden buildings and teepee to play in....etc. all of my kids want to live here
This is a beautiful Greene County park. The natural play area is full of stations for young children and each one is unique. Some are physically challenging, others put the kids imagination to use. Their is a hiking loop through the woods; at the halfway mark, the loop overlooks the field off of Beaver Valley Road. The hike is gorgeous, especially in the fall. A great park year-round, especially if you want to get outdoors in cold weather.
It was very peaceful
Went to the Winter solstice luminary trail and it was nice. It was dark so we didnt see the park in the lot but will try to visit in the day some time.
Nice park with good walking trails.
The nature preserve has plenty of walking trails both through prairie and forest areas. There is also a playground made of logs and timber which is great for the young ones.
Greene County Parks are the best. Playground made of natural fallen trees. Theres a.house with a tree growing in the middle of it.
Peaceful place
Well maintained trails, good signage, great child play area.
A very nice park with walking trails.
So fun for the kids!
Great use of outdoor space with walking trails and nature playground. Beautiful landscape with wild flowers and young trees.
Close to civilization yet woods, trails, play scape. Look forward to future plans for house conversion to indoor nature center. Updated June 2018: another visit found new pathways to enjoy, picnic tables available. House not open yet, so porta-potty remains for bathroom facility. New trees planted between parking lot and old tree growth.
Perfect adventure scape for the kids to play 3-10 is the perfect age range but something for everyone.
Love this place! My dog and I enjoy the quiet trails and the natural playground areas are amazing. Great way to stimulate creative play and movement.
Beautiful
Awesome walking trails and great for kids
Awesome nature play area. Hours of fun for curious and adventurous kiddos! Bring your bug repellent though.
We love the playscape, and natural areas! I do not, however, appreciate chemicals being sprayed around the grounds! This is supposedly a preserve, and a place for kids, families, and pets to roam. Chemicals are the last thing I wish to see in such a place!! :/
Very clean park. Quiet and peaceful to walk through.
Nice little park. I would prefer the trails to be more worn in, but that is mostly due to low traffic.
Beautiful space, beautiful trails, amazing playground in the woods made from trees
Great outdoor activities for kids!
Beautiful park! Also has a small play area and great secluded trails and fields
Great place to take kids, great place to take nature walks and picnic tables for gatherings. Really beautiful place.
Nice smallish nature reserve park with free parking, hiking trails, and kids play areas.
Pumpkin glow is a great family event
Beautiful nature reserve tucked behind Beavercreek and fairborn. Awesome place for pets and kids! They even have huge building logs!
Huge naturescape play area, a stream and a sand box surrounded by forest. We love Russ.
This park is a hidden gem. Not crowded and well maintained trails!
Very pretty, love the natural playground.
Great for hiking 30 to 50m. Dogs owners a bit careless.
Good for dog walking very well cept
Great! Good place to bring kids!
Its a nice, small park to hike around.
A beautiful place to bring your kids to play
It is a beautiful park that has a playground made from fallen trees. Also has a number of trail to take nature walks.
Very nice for city hiking and great playscape
Always so pleasant
**Do not go on the dirt road. Google map Directions takes you to someones house.
Our kids love this park!
