The only reason I dont give this 5 stars is due to the close proximity to the road. The primitive, tent sites are right on the main highway and cars drive up and down it all night. Outside of that, this is one of the best places Ive camped. My wife and I brought our almost 11 month old and she slept for over 10 hours, in a tent, close to a road. Its a great place to bring family.
We toured the home, while The Shadows were going. The historic story line was great. Very pretty place.
We went specifically to see the Budweiser Clydesdale horses. My girlfriend was thrilled to see such beautiful animals and the home was a great backdrop to it. We didnt get a chance to tour the home that day, but we plan on making a trip back for that. I have toured the home in the past and it was always beautiful. The visitor center is a nice addition.
Nicely spaced, wooded sites and clean bathrooms. Not much else other than the golf course and house tours. We were looking more for a natural campground, but it worked.
Loved the tour of the mansion and the biscuit making tour was so fun. You get 3 different biscuits to taste plus jams to eat with them.
Great, peaceful place to just relax. The surrounding views are amazing!
Its a quite little place that has a nice little playground.
Really ever been there but still give them 6 star
Lots of shaded sites. Loved the mature trees. Some sites were pretty tight and the electric and water arent always conveniently located. Some of the spots werent all that level. We were in sight 8 with full hookups and ours was the exception to all of the above. Great location if you wanna tour the local distilleries and or wineries. We will be back.
Very clean, rather small but quiet. Kind of difficult to find due to lack of signage.
Small, quiet campground. Definitely worth the visit. Just off the golf course. Close to so many places. Explore the area.
Campsite was good. Plenty of space grass was mowed. Standard fire ring and picnic table at each site. BUT shower house facilities were disgustingly filthy. Sign on bathroom door using Covid 19 as the excuse for not cleaning them. I would suggest management pull one of the staff members off a lawnmower or golf cart I saw them riding around on all morning and send them in with a haz mat suit and a fire hose for the first round of cleaning. Covid 19 would have been the least of my worries of what I might have caught in there. I camped at 4 state campgrounds in 4 days and all others not only had spotless rest rooms they had implemented extra cleaning regimens to insure safety. Somebody here just threw in the towel and gave up. Too bad had they handled their business this could have been a 5 star review.
Very much have enjoyed our stay here. It has been peaceful.
Very nice being so close to the Golf Course.
Picnics there with friends. Beautifully maintained.
Nice little campground, spots are spread out and have grills and fire pirs
Great location. Nice sites.
Overall RatingWe stayed at this campground from Nov 3rd - 6th 2018 because of its convenient location to most of the bourbon distilleries. Yes most of the sites are not level and youll be challenged in your leveling abilities. Yes some of the electric and water connections are in odd locations. So make sure you have extra electric cord and water hose. But if youve camped more than once then you should have those items anyway. We did not use the restrooms or showers so I cant comment on them. All though we did notice staff cleaning them on a daily basis. Site 22 was semi level and only 10 from electric and water connections. We will definitely stay here again.
Pretty. Convenient. Lovely town. Nice golf course. Small campground with all services. Easy access to the Bourbon Trail.
Beautiful and right next to the golf course and very quiet.
This was a very nice place to visit. The people who told the stories where very nice. We where not aloud to take pictures. It was beautiful inside.
It was very nice. I had visited years before. The changed alot since then. The have some window on front of the home that need some work very soon. It was not run down or anything. I guess looking up you can tell things. Extremely nice employees and gift shop. Great gift for your family. I loved wondering around the grounds.
This campground is excellent. For those that say the roads are too narrow, learn to drive your rigs.... We have a 36 fifth wheel we pull with an extended cab long bed dually and had no problem getting to or into our campsite and we were in site 22 as far into the campground as you can get. Staff is young and do a great job and there are adults around to help if they are needed. Shower house is clean and modern and seems to always be stocked with soap and tp. Dont let negative comments deter you from staying here. Its is a very nice campground. Oh yeah, the trees are all trimmed and well above the campers from what I saw driving the entire campground. Enjoy camping everyone.......
All original & beautiful!
The campground is safe, secure and well maintained.
Passing through town and had to stop by and check out this historical place. Its very beautiful and inviting as you get there. They were having the bourbon festival and cigar event. Very nice.
I wouldnt give ANY stars, but since it made me I HAD to give it 1. We get to the site, the camper is 4 ft up in the air and STILL wasnt level....not safe to even be near...when we asked if there was another site that we could go to, the answer was no. We were told we would get a FULL refund because they couldnt accommodate us and then told we could go to a different campground 40 miles away at 9:30 at night! We ended up finding a different campground NOT 40 miles away. We get our refund and were shorted $16...we were transferred to 5 different people AND still have NOT received our full refund. I dont recommend this campground and I dont recommend Reserve America either, which is who you have to go through to book this campground
Always a great visit! The shadows of federal grove was awesome. The whole crew where outstanding! Check out the gift shop!
Fun town, cool golf course
The staff was awesome. Very nice and personable. The camp sites were way too tight even for a small camper. The breaker kept tripping with only a/c running. Not fun when its 85 degrees. The maintenance people refused to come. The sites were very uneven. Needed but a 30 foot extension cord because it was too far away. The camp host were life savers. But we wont stay here again.
Very convenient for bourbon tours, literally surrounded by the golf course. Bathrooms are old but well kept. Sites are nestled in the trees, and not right on top of each other. Only 5 or 6 sites have sewer, all have water and electricity.
Absolutely great place. I attended a wedding of my best friend Justin and Laura.
Beautiful campground. Needs a few updates but was very convenient to downtown bardstown and the bark park!
We have had so much fun enjoying an afternoon playdate with friends. This was the halfway point for us to meet we accidentally stumbled on this place (looking for the state park). The kids have played and we have sat and talked. Thank you for having our crew. Good times.
For Tent Camping, Go Primitive! We have a 20 x 10 tent and none of the sites with electric would accomodate it well. Beware the shower water pressure and temperature changes drastically! They are reasonably clean and well stocked. The staff hsve been AWESOME! The groundskeepers start work around 6am, so be prepared for lots of gator like vehicles making noise early.
Great place for family reunion. Although, the park has gone downhill over the years. The bathrooms were dirty and awful. Still love the place though. We have had our family reunion here for 25 years. It holds a place in my heart and always will.
A terrific little public golf course.
Nice facility for groups or parties but not much of a museum to visit. Clydesdale horses were on display when we visited but they were kept in small cages.
Beautiful place to camp the shower houses where some of the cleanest I have seen in a long time
Everyone needs to check this place out its amazing and very historical
The tour is informative and the guides were interesting. Highly recommend it.
Great access to my favorite bourbon -- Willett and Barton. And the beauty of Bardstown. Friendly hosts.
Stayed here back in June 2003, as the nearest (affordable) place to stay before hitting the Makers Mark Distillery. The RV Campground was rather busy, but I had no problem finding a spot in the Tent Campground. The downside was it was close to the road, and there was a busy ballpark across the street.Upside to this was the cost was $11 back then, and the campground manager came by to collect and we chatted a while. I could tell he really enjoyed his job. TIFA 2003
This is the second time in two years that my husband and I have stayed here, and we absolutely love it!! Nice and quiet, but still friendly with personable people. Super convenient location to all that bourbon country has to offer. Well be back every year for the foreseeable future!
My only complaint there is that it would be nice to have full hookups. its an older Campground with lots of large trees so the shade is especially nice. The guys played golf at the golf course next door and said that it was absolutely beautiful.
Campground sets in the midst of town allowing easy access to area.
A historical and great place.
Beautiful wedding venue but dont expect any help from staff
Be sure to stop by when you are in Bardstown
Nice campground. They need more full hookup sites.
This is a beautiful historic place to visit or have an event!
Nice place. We did the Shadows of Federal Hill tour. It was fun and also interesting. They had some great actors.
Nice little state park tucked away in the middle of bourbon country. Cute little town to visit with several local flavor restaurants. We really enjoyed Stephen Fosters buffet. Located just up the street from Heaven Hill distillery, and Jim Beam is close by.
They dont allow dogs in the gall dern place...absurd...they alienated a hugh portion of visitors.
Stephen Foster story is always good under the stars.
The grounds and house are beautiful and an important historical icon in Kentucky history.
Excellent location, very friendly and helpful staff. I made last minute accommodations which was handled very professionally and a positive experience. I will always stay here on all future visits to the area. Thanks!
Great for RVs, but we had a tent.
Great old growth shade trees. Bath house was closed on Monday. No accommodations were made available. Most sites are not level and require excessive leveling.
MANAGEMENT was very helpful finding us a space that was level enough for our RV! Thank you!
A very beautiful place. The show we watch from the dance studio in Bardstown was awesome. The dancers starting from age 3 on up was great! My neighbors granddaughter who was in the 4 year old group was so cute. They did such a good job! Awesome job Gracelynn!
Camped here in a big rig. Only had 30 amp and no sewer at our site, but a pleasant place with lots of shade. More shorter sites than the couple that can accommodate big rigs. There are several that do have sewer. Clean bathhouse and very friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed our stay.
3 stars only because of how friendly everybody was. The staff was super and tried to find a better spot suitable for my rig. The adjacent golf course and grounds are beautiful. This place isnt what I would consider big rig friendly. There are some level sites but I didnt get one. They did offer 4 more but none were deep enough for my RV. Do know how to maneuver your rig. The street is small and not for someone that doesnt know how to back their rig.
A better camp ground facility in a great Kentucky park
We were assigned to a site for our long travel trailer for the night. However, when we got to the site, it was so horribly sloped downhill that we could not get our RV leveled..not even close. I dont mean it wouldve been a hassle to level it. I mean it was literally impossible because the tongue jack physically couldnt lift up enough to put more things under it. Yes, thats how bad it was. We requested a refund but of course since this is a state park, its taking a long time. Even before we had the leveling problem, we were concerned about space. If there was anyone staying directly across the street from us, we wouldnt have been able to start backing up the RV. Unless you have a 10ft long RV, I recommend giving this place a HARD pass.
The site that I had was dead. By that I mean that the only thing growing at the site was moss. The picnic table and fire ring was on the wrong side of the camper. Thus making it so my camper door faced the adjoining campers door, just a few feet away. There are no handicap stalls in the restroom or shower areas. No hiking trails. Pretty much nothing to do at all unless you play golf, witch I dont. The guard shack was empty and the pro shop was of no help. Half of the park is closed and has been for a year that I know of. My up most least favorite thing was the fact that I had to watch how I parked because if I didnt pay close enough attention I would park on my water supply hose, which ran across my parking area along with my extension cord. Oh I almost forgot to warn you about the flying golf balls. Do not park on the outer loop of the campground or your camper and car will get hit by them.
Good clean campground. No privacy at any of the sites.
What can I say, I love state parks. This is a smallish, quaint park well worth the visit. A lovely afternoon.
Most campsites need updating. Water and electric hook-ups may be further away than the length of your hoses or power cables. Minimal additional parking at each individual site. Sites are a little tight for parking bigger rigs. A few sites have been updated and have full hook-ups. Our site had neither a picnic table nor a fire ing. My least favorite Kentucky State Park campground due to these issues.
Love this golf course!
Very nice little campground close to town. Very clean and all spots paved. Many spots have a lot of incline, so some blocks will be needed for leveling.
Interesting place and part of American history.
Place stop by going somewhere my opinion it was GOOD place to stop by
I enjoy going to this park. Its in a perfect location. I have had several birthday parties for my children here as well.
Stayed here seven nights. The campground is in a great location close to downtown Bardstown, several distilleries, and shopping. While this is an older campground, it is well-maintained and clean. The downside (and it is a significant negative) is the golf course that adjoins the campground. The grounds crew is out most mornings by 7:00 with leaf blowers, tractors, and other power equipment. Sleeping late is nearly impossible. It is not just in the morning though because the crews often work throughout the day. In summary, this is a nice campground in a convenient location; but, it is not a quiet and relaxing environment.
Host was very helpful. Beautiful campground
Staff was wonderful, had situation with our site and took some time to resolve, but it turned out much better than expected!
We have always loved it here nicely wooded small Campground the host of really nice very helpful its an older Campground but everything is nice and clean
Small lots, small road most lots arent big rig friendly and most are 4-6 inches off level so bring at least that thick to level your rig! Real shady lots (no solar)and most sites require at least 20 foot for hookups some more than that! super friendly staff
Absolutely gorgous. I learned so much about Bardstown Ky in this place.
Nice place for a day out with the kids .
Nice big park. Golf course overlooks some distilleries and lots of horses and farms. Fun park with a playground and spots for grilling and company outings. A fun place to go filled with nice sights.
Wow thatsucked no peacefull placez to park every thing is so compressed
We had a bad experience there. Our first site was on such an incline we could not level the trailer. They said we could use another site so we moved but the next morning they wanted us to move again because they had given us someone elses site. We left. Also on many sites the water and electric are on the wrong side and very far away.
Nice except group site has now water access.
Its a quiet campground on the edge of Bardstown. Most of the rv and camper sites will require some leveling and most of the utilities are 20 or more from conventional camper connections, so bring extensions. That said, the staff are friendly and helpful, the campground is clean. Just appreciate it for what it is. A quaint, older campground.
Great place to visit
Office attendant not there regularly and host wasnt present either directly after our arrival. We were unable to get our 40 5th wheel on site we were given via Reserve America do to so many trees and narrow roads & sites.
I only went to the picnic area but kids had a great time
Family-friendly
Has many great memories for me stayed here as a teen . Loved the musical, the mansion and campground. Very kind park rangers. Beautiful setting.
Not much of a park for camping. Sites are not level and utilities are far from the site
