I love this museum its a local gem. Admission is always free as its covered by philanthropic organizations kind of a little gift to the community if you ask me. The museum is very covid aware providing hand sanitizer, requiring masks, and ensuring social distancing throughout the museum. Overall I had a very good experience here.
Such a cute museum! There was free admission and it was great to walk around and enjoy the local art during a rainy day in Bangor!
Ill be up front - I am not normally a fan of modern and contemporary art. This museum, however, is so well done, educational and informative, that I just had to give it five stars. Its small, only three galleries - but what it lacks in size it makes up for in substance. Well worth a visit!
Beautiful place. But do beware, if you have a stroller or have a wheel chair. Some of the staff do not know how to operate the handicap lift. Thus, you are left unable to use the lift and may have to figure out a way to go down the stairs (would not recommend) from the entrance. I went on my own and had a great experience but tried to take my kids and was unable to safely bring my stroller so we didnt get to go in. More training on lift usage is important. I dont mind, but if someone with a disability wants to go visit, they should have accessibility. Other than that, staff is wonderful! Love the art! Amazing place.
A smaller museum than we expected, art all modern. We saw a few works we liked. Most were head-scratchers; theres no explaining taste.
Very good atmosphere and just what I needed to introduce my daughter to art.
Interesting and evocative paintings, though Id hoped it would be larger. With only 4 rooms, worth a visit if passing by, especially as its free.
Beautiful art gallery, which feels like it belongs in a much bigger city. Quiet environment, kind staff, and a great atmosphere. You can expect to see art from local artists, as well as very famous artists, such as Andy Worhol. They change the gallery about every three months, and Ive yet to be disappointed.
Wonderful museum! And its free, except of course you can give them a donation, which we did. They have great local artists and they also have some pieces by really famous artists, like Picasso and others. I was delightfully surprised by how good the exhibits are. And Im recommending it to everybody and plan to go there again soon. Actually we already tried to go again, but they were closed that day.
Our kids had fun checking out the amazing artwork and there was no entry fee.
Nice, small museum with both unusual and classic exhibits. Ask for a scavenger hunt if you go with elementary age children--it helps them really look at the pieces and find their favorites.
Exhibits change frequently and are varied.
Inviting and interesting space. Glad to have this source of culture in the community.
This museum is truly a downtown gem! I’ve been several times and the exhibits are of fairly good quality and the permanent collection Has some pretty good pieces including a Picasso and Ellsworth Kelly. My only complaint is I wish it was bigger! Don’t expect to spend an afternoon here! Probably on average 20 minutes maybe an hour if you really love art I also wish there was more of the permanent collection on display at a time
Real variety of important and interesting works.
Excellent art that makes one contemplate life
A good experience with featured exhibits that were so-so, but showings from the permanent collection that were both interesting and intriguing. Display space hard to find with the given address. What could be a jewel in Bangors downtown renaissance falls short. Maybe in time.....
The exhibitions were interesting. Not crowded on Friday afternoon. This is a small museum. Depending on your interest, 1/2 to 1-1/2 hours is enough time to see all the shows.
Visit this free museum to see their constantly changing contemporary collection
Wonderful little gallery!
This is a nice almost secret museum. Get there and then walk the river side walk...maybe not alone..but I felt pretty safe.
Outstanding permanent collection, including work by Picasso, Warhol, Magritte, et al. displayed in rotation; carefully curated exhibitions that change quarterly. Not huge, but free, and very much worth stopping into if youre a contemporary art fan and are in the area.
Small, but absolutely lovely.
An exceptional facility. Incredible exhibits. Amazing permanent collection. FREE! Wonderful knowledgeable staff.
It was OK they had some fairly recognizable pieces and some newer stuff that was not as great as a small gallery still nice about 3540 minutes walk-through
Small but wheel worth the visit. Highly curated and very well presented.
Such a cool display
Art presented in a beautiful atmosphere. Well planned openings. I love it!
Small. Quaint. Free
I like art. I read some of the reviews and I think youre Museumis cool.
The University put out much for art. Many would think that college students only put out hip art or similar, but there is much for art and while it might not be the Louvre, its a place to go to see beauty and wonder and emotion come to life
Nice to see local art
Its ok good art but not something I would go to regularly
Interesting exhibits and the workers are very pleasant.
Great spot not always the best selections and exhibits. Changes quarterly so great place to revisit.
My wife and I are both artists who live in midcoast Maine. We always look forward to stopping at USM art museum when in Bangor. Theres always something worthwhile and even inspiring to see.
We were very disappointed today here. After trying for weeks to get in while they were remodeling we were surprised they didnt have much to see.
One one the top Ten places to visit in Bangor. National Artists.
Nice museum, interesting exhibit, friendly staff
