Ive had the squash ravioli and the breakfast burrito plates; both were OFF THE CHAIN! My wife LOVES their salmon...oh, and they have the BEST LIVE MUSIC!!! Social distancing, masks and outdoor dining; unmatched customer service with a (albeit masked)smile
Nothing bad, nothing great. It was a very okay experience. Food was decent. The oyster shells were pretty broken so at some point it was way too much shell to eat, not enjoyable. The mussels were good. The crab dip was okay, tasted mostly like cream cheese with a bit of crab. The carb cake was fantastic! Overall, not a bad experience just nothing to write home about.
They have a cute parklet outside. Great music, fun drinks and yummy food. I recommend!
Food was great, live music was great! We sat outside and had a mini concert while we ate.Awesome
Wonderful history, fabulous food, great tunes both live and daily in house. Reasonable prices, great happy hour, laid back atmosphere and humor filled vibe . A true Baltimore must .
Best mussels anywhere. Glad to see outdoor seating so they can stay open. Love this place, a Baltimore classic.
Absolutely love this place! I was in town for five days and we ate here twice! Food was so good it put Phillips Seafood Restaurant to shame! The service was fantastic both times and the vintage decor is on point! Even the bouncer was nice and friendly! We ate the food, got the bumper sticker and bought the tee shirt!
Tasty food. Portions feel kind of small. Great service.
Should serve bread with the mussels. Service was great
The review is for manager Nick who always goes above and beyond everytime mother and I visit your little tavern. Nick you are your mothers son and never forget that! Your are such a lovely young lady. Great job Nick
I must say that my experience at Berthas was Awesome! My girlfriend took me there for my birthday and I took her that she made a perfect choice. I Love Fells Point because its a short walk to a lot of different bars and restaurants. But Berthas is now my favorite. The food was perfect. I mean my food was so good. The half&half of MD crab and Cream of crab was the best I ever had. I recommend the Maurice as an entrée. Just LOVED it! And Special thanks goes to our waiter, Mark who gave us fantastic customer service. Thanks Mark for making my special day more special. I recommend Berthas 100%!!
Great experience and food for a first time visitor to Baltimore. Mussels and crab cakes.
Loved my time here! The bartender was awesome! He clearly knew all the locals! I have a shellfish allergy. I usually try to avoid restaurants like this because I know it is a pain to deal with me. They where very accommodating. I really appreciated that since I was part of a larger group that all wanted to go there. Thanks for a great time! I will definitely be back when I am in Baltimore!
My food was excellent, and I order the crab mac n cheese, it was sooo good and filling. My friend and I tried chicken livers for the first time. They were very delicious. But she didnt like the texture. However, the one thing that disturbed me, was there was these tiny crab in 6 of my friends mussels she ordered. I think they are called Snow Pea or some kind of parasite. It was gross and made me want to throw up, cuz i had one!
Everything (apps, drinks service) but the mussles and spider webs in the corner were 5 stars. Mussles were horrible amd one order (not 5 sauce taster) had no juice. Its called Merthas Mussels, so you would expected them to be a good mussel place. Overly warm seating area and corner must not have swept in a while (cobwebs). Overall very disappointing. Their drinks and friendly staff got them 2 stars. As you can see they have large portions.
The menu choices are robust, but the dishes themselves are somewhat lacking. For a seafood place, most of the seafood came out over cooked. The service was good and the staff friendly. There are better places to go for dinner within walking distance.
Outdoor social distancing being done right. They gave out friend Bertha a t shirt that says Berthas. Customer service win
Exceptional. Nice neighborhood place to eat. Only thing better than the crab cake salad was the service provided by the bartender. Dressings complimented the salad and crab cake perfectly. One was mustard based and the other was lime based I believe. Would definitely visit again next time Im in Baltimore.
Fantastic spot with wonderful food and service. Clara was phenomenal and the mussels were killer!! Thank you for a great time!! EAT BERTHAS MUSSELS!!
This was highly recommended so we chose it for our last dinner in Baltimore during a recent visit. The place was a little bit out of our way (we were staying near the Inner Harbor) but there is a free Circulator bus that dropped us off several blocks from the restaurant. We reserved in advance but were told it wasnt really necessary on the evening of our visit.Overall, the food was satisfying and filling but arrived a bit cold, particularly the soup and mussels. The dining area was cozy and intimate. Service was pleasant and attentive, and the food arrived within our expected time frame, although it took us some time to get our check. Prices are mid-range.Would we recommend it? Sure, but not as highly.
Great happy hour! 50% off all appetizers and most drinks. Wide selection of food and great atmosphere
Bertha Redux - M and I went for the mussels with the 5 Sauce sampler and the Shepherds pie. Myssels came out first. It was so GOOD we placed another order! The Shepherds pie tasted like I made it. THAN YOU Berthas for a great meal!
4/10 for service and food quality. Disappointing experience. Steak was over done, broccoli was under done, potato wedges were Luke warm.Francisco was our waiter, but I think he should choose another career.Remember that the special is only available at the bar.We will not be returning..
Havent been here in awhile. Was celebrating a birthday. We went for mussels but ending up with a humongous seafood wrap, a fabulous fresh salad and shrimp streamed in beer. Most delicious.
Wow! Best mussels I ever had. Shrimp steamed perfectly. Great service. As a bonus, they actually know how to cook vegetables. LOL
Mussels were overcooked, and the flavor was unremarkable. The service wasnt very good and despite few people being here, we had to flag down the waiter. Seems like a tourist trap to me.
This place is noted for its Muscles and it was right on point! The memorabilia lining the walls was very interesting! They had a live blues band which sounded great but lacked some enthusiasm for the performance although Id see them again of that makes sense. ;)
Wouldnt go back! Sat at the bar for a good 5-10 min before being acknowledged. Prices are a little higher because of being in Fells point. Natty bohs 4$ and most places charge 2$. Didnt like the seasonings with the crab cake, have had much better. Tasted like some plain old Italian bread crumbs I grabbed out of my pantry. Wedge fries were also horrible! 1st order came out and half of them were cold and werent crispy at all. The bartender got me a new order, they were hot, not crispy and over seasoned. Also they force charged my credit card after I left, because the bartender forgot to put something on my bill. Im pretty sure thats fraudulent.
Jazz is good. Food is alright. Its such a tiny place not the most comfortable!! Also, the girl bartender makes bad cocktails. Shes quite friendly, but she should taste her own drinks and practice!!
Came here on a Saturday afternoon to explore Fells point. It wasnt that busy that day. I feel like this is a local bar. I ordered the mussels and was shocked on how good it was! Multiple beers on tap, but you have to try their local cheap beer.
I liked the décor of this place and enjoyed an IPA and a bowl of mussels here very much. I sensed that Berthas had a long, proud history. The bar was very quiet, but it was mid afternoon on a week day.
The menu looked so inviting that the three of us couldnt make a decision about our meals. We shared an appetizer of steamed mussels and after consulting with our waitress, we decided to keep ordering their small plates to share. We ordered two or three at a time, sharing each one. Eventually, we got through about 85% of them, much to the delight of our waitress. They were all delicious and when pressed, we could not pick a favorite. We finished the meal by each having a slice of pie: apple, lemon chess, and pecan. And each claimed that our own slice had to be the best!
When we visit Baltimore we have to stop here because I love their crabcakes. Kitchen service this time around was not good. There was a long hair in my salad. My family did not get a couple items that they ordered. Our waiter offered us a free menu item for the inconvenience so we were appreciative. I will return for the crabcakes to give them another chance.
Great food, awesome service and good prices. The bar is fun as well if your not just going for dinner.
Very cute restaurant. So historic! Ate the muscles and they were terrific!
Good food and good service. We had oysters, crab cake, and several variations of mussels (white wine, spicy coconut, anchovies tomato, and Guinness). Everything was good and would recommend. Mixed drinks were just okay. Gin & Flowers tasted most of grapefruit with very little gin or elderflower. Rye Fashioned was good and would recommend that if you like whiskey. Popped over to the bar for music after dinner which was very enjoyable. Would go again if I ever find myself back in Baltimore.
A great place to visit!Good food and service.
Nobody does crab cakes like the greater Baltimore area. Others try only to fail with filler and back fin meat. Less is more with the delicate pillows of heady goodness. Only the bay can produce such delight!
Seafood pasta salad, crab cakes, and crab soup were amazing. Cocktails were great too. Oysters were pretty good and plentiful.
Limited menu outdoors seating or take out.
Absolute Delight!! Everything is wonderful and I always go there every single time Im in Fells Point!! Make sure you get the mussels with various dipping samplers!! Amazing!!
Crab cake was great! They all had mussles and loved them! Food was really good. Just hot inside or a 5 star. Neat place.
Classic Maryland cuisine; the crabcakes were especially delicious. The building is also very classic and well maintained. It feels very cozy and welcoming. Staff is friendly and service is quick.
Berthas is the great little Cheers like Pub! Michael is a terrific bartender! We had a great time at a wedding reception held there and several other times during our stay there!!! Great crab cake appetizers!
Been a fan for years - delicious fresh seafood, great ambiance and excellent staff.
Great service and beer, unfortunately the .music lasted only til midnight on friday night, on a night that we expected it to last until 1 am. Still a great spot!
The crab dip and Brussels were good. The Brussels aren’t crispy tho. I got butter and garlic mussels. There was so much garlic on the mussels and no broth. My mussels were dry as the dessert. Never had mussels without any broth. A little disappointing especially since it was supposed to come in a butter sauce. Our server was nice. The place is bigger than you’d think.
If you love mussels this is the place to go. So many choices of sauces and ways to have them made.
Very relaxed atmosphere. Good drinks, Fine service & Excellent Mussels...You gotta Eat Berthas Mussels!
Fresh mussels at its best. Then I had the Scottish salmon served with sautéed sweet potatoes and broccolini. This was a short walk from the Marriott and I will come back when visiting the Inner Harbor.
One of the best crab cakes in the city!
A colleague recommended this restaurant while I was in town for a conference and it was lovely. The food was amazing.
Went with our kids, who love mussels. They are apparently famous for their mussels. I was skeptical of the mussel happy hour in the bar, which we couldnt take advantage of with kids. So we ordered the famous mussels anyway for $16 (instead of $8) and what we did get? Some pretty terrible mussels. Overcooked, gritty, inedible. Our kids spit it out. We decided we couldnt handle dinner here. Told the waitstaff about the problem, they offered more mussels, but didnt offer our money back. We left.
My trips to been to Bethas in the past have been outstanding; wonderful mussels and crab cakes. But my last trip whats a bit of a disappointment. Eventually, the coffee and tea came lukewarm; hard to seep a bag in tepid water and French press wont work. 15 minutes later we finally got hot drinks. I decided to go off menu and order chicken livers and they were raw in the center! The server seemed completely nonplussed and that raw livers where a normal thing, but its actually pretty good way to get food poisoning. Not a single apology. The mussels and salad were great, but I was a little put off by then.
I recommend the thursday night happy hour. Half priced appetizers and claire is always playing easy listening tunes.
This place is one of my favorites! Reasonable rates, big portions and the employees are consistently kind.
I LOVE this bar! It is possibly my #1 favorite.. if im anywhere near the Fells Point area i always make my way there. Im not really sure what it is, but it just have that perfect feeling... great place to get a Guiness (and of course Mussels).
This used to be a great place to hang out, have good food, maybe catch a local band, or bring out-of-town guests. The famous mussels were plump, tender, and the size of a babys fist. Served in a great variety of wonderful sauces and commemorated on Berthas bumper stickers, the mussels were the dish to have. I dont like leaving bad reviews, but this is the third time I take friends there and come out disappointed. On the Friday night I visited last, there were plenty of empty tables in the dining room behind an eerily empty bar. And the mussels... You can see for yourself: just like Berthas, a shell of its former self. I will need to see a whole lot of good recent mussels pictures before I recommend this place again.
Nice little spot on the corner. Drinks are delish..
Great food, and our server Sydney was marvelous! Definitely check this place out!
Weve been here many times. The mussels are usually good but the last time they were fat and too stringy to chew. After struggling through four of them, I paid the bill and commented on my disappointment.Heres the lesson. I should have complained before paying, the server told me. She would have taken the nasty critters off my check.Otherwise, its a fun, funky joint with locals happily mixing with the tourists.
Great dive place to hang and have a beer
Mussels are there thing. We had crab cakes and a seafood dish. Service was great. However, I often saw the staff on their phones. I would recommend.
Had an amazing time here. If all the other seafood places are full just come here and order the crab cakes you wont be disappointed.
We love this place!! Hit it every time in Baltimore. Best mussels, best crab cakes!! Cant wait till next time. Ask for Francisco!
Having lived in Fells Point in the 1990s, I frequently went to Berthas. 25 years later, I was so excited to be able to revisit. To which I was sadly disappointed. While I do have high standards, I expect a seafood restaurant to be on their game.We ordered mussels and a pound of steamed shrimp and a cup of crab soup. The crab soup had 0 crab in it.The mussels were not bigger than my index finger tip.The shrimp was so over done they were barely eatable.I suppose nostalgia has a funny way sometimes.
Love Berthas mussels!! And surprisingly they have a good number of creative tasty vegetarian options, bean burger, omelets, mushroom ravioli, salads, spinach balls, and delicious sides. Included in the package, if you opt for it, is a small band rocking out in the bar. Cool beans!
Good food at a reasonable price, no wait. Must try the mussels!!!
Very cool.. great mussels.. fine beer selection on tap.. there is dining room separate from bar
Fells point classic - great food, wonderful service in the heart of Fells point. Definitely go for the mussels.
Love this place. Always my go-to dinner spot in Fells Point. Enjoy sitting at the bar or a cozy table for two in the dining room. Never disappoints. Nice draft beer selection also.
Cool little bar with live music and friendly bartenders! Good beer selection too!
Lovely Baltimore seafood spot! Their hot cider was delicious! The mussels were made to perfection and I was in heaven. I loved it! The waitress was kind and didnt make our party wait long to get us anything. She didnt take forever to split the bill which was great. Her customer service skills were excellent. I apologize for not getting her name to mention it directly but I used my name on the reservation for a friends birthday celebration a week ago. All around, I would definitely advise other people to come to this establishment.
Berthas is a diamond in the rough. I was wildly impressed with the quality of ingredients and the excellent staff recommendations. Get the mussels, obviously.
Sit at the bar and have steamed mussels w a side of garlic sauce and an Allagash White beer. It would be my last meal, if I had to order one. But I would insist on sitting at the bar so I dont know if that would be allowed.
Location, service, and ambiance were good. Food was uniformly not good.
Something has changed. I know Berthas, and this is not Berthas, something has changed and i urge the owner to review. Yes, I was there on Monday, but there must be a good improvement. Service and drinks wee Great!
The staff was friendly but we ordered the crab-cake club and we ended up with wraps, we expected a sandwich. Not wrap fans. It was okay. I got a seasonal slaw and it was limp as if it had been sitting out for a while. My girlfriend got the macaroni salad with hers and that was the highlight out of everything.
Jen the bartender was wife material. Had the best crab cake of my life here. The mussels did not disappoint either and the Bloody Mary was great. Mussels are half off during happy hour 3p-6p.
Great food but kitchen was veeeery slow and bartender was extremely rude to one of our guests for no reason. Food was great though. Best crab cake in town! Just not the best place for a large party.
Always excellent. If they have the cask beer, get it.
Beers on tap/ good mussels /good music, whats not to like?
Still a great hole in the wall. It is a bit past its prime though. Mussels were a bit older / drier than normal.
Good friends gathering place. Great chow and a friendly personable staff. Plenty of good spirits. Historical establishment. Always an enjoyable place to visit.
The place is known for the mussels and they are delicious, 6 different sauces to choose from.
Food was great. I dont recommend any of their mixed cocktails tho. In our group, we tried a small handful of mixed cocktails and none of were happy with them.
The service was very efficient and the cuisine was excellent.
THE FOOD WAS A1 GREAT !!!!!!! THIS IS MY NEW PLACE TO DINE. I AM TELLING ALL MY FRIENDS
Some of the best missiles Ive had, and I have had a lot!
The crab cakes were delicious. The oyster stew and mussels were okay. Service was friendly and great. Good drink selections.
Good food! Cool place!
If you like mussels and a dive bar thos place is for you
Berthas is always amazing! Best crab cakes in town. I recommend the crab cake salad, which is cheap and yummy. The mussles are awesome too, with many options to chose from. I like the five sauce sampler because you get a bunch of different flavors or you can eat the mussles as is
Best Muscles and atmosphere!
I am a seafood aficionado and Berthas has the best mussels! This is a do not miss if you are visiting or reside in the Baltimore area. I also recommend their cream of crab soup.
Berthas is the bomb! Mussels are delicious and you can pick from many ways to have them prepared. But I really love the crab cakes. Better than any where else.
This place had great atmosphere and friendly staff. Didnt get a chance to eat here but Ive heard amazing things.
