Did the Christmas town drive through, was very well put together, lots of attention to detail, went smoothly. I appreciated the efforts of the museum to make it a safe and enjoyable experience. They offered hot cocoa and marshmallows as well and it made the whole night memorable.
I went to see this thinking was so small. It’s huge and I loved it. Too bad I can’t see when the Xmas lights go on. I will be going back to Chicago. I so loved it. Taken care off and the employees putting the lights on. A couple was there too Swedish but it was awesome. Mostly alone due to COVID but I had a great experience. Wish I could volunteer here. Too bad the store was closed. I really left wanting a souvenir. This place is a must see.
I remember the very first time I went to The Pioneer Village Historical Landmark, I was just 8yrs old. 40yrs later my Son and his wife got married and P.V. was their theme. So lovely
If you love history or are in the mood for a blast from the past, this is a good location. The Kern County Museum has done a good job taking homes from the city to preserve and show what like was in the 1800s for Kern County. The restorations and upkeep is done primarily by donations and volunteers who assist with tours and events. The museum is open for self-guided, or docent-guided tours perfect for school fieldtrips. It is also open for private events such as weddings. The back end of the property also hold a signage graveyard, you can see many of the neon signs that attracted patrons to businesses so long ago.
Worth your money. Christmas Town was a delight. A very enjoyable experience. Lights are great! Nice Santa photo, great hayride, areas to sit and eat, or rest, with musical light-animated displays. My son had to dance to one of these. Many Xmas jump houses for kids to enjoy.
Fun place, educational. We always bring out of town guests. They have so many fun activities and seasonal celebrations.
Lovely retreat to the initial settlement in Bakersfield. The plaques are very informative in regards to who the inhabitants of the buildings were, where the buildings originally were and when they were relocated in an effort to preserve history. There are a lot of undisturbed spiders by the train. Admire from afar if you are afraid of spiders. The spiders I found there were pretty harmless. My three year old had fun playing with the spiders.
This museum is quite literally a step back in time. Everything is so interesting and you learn tons of stuff. Then theres the store filled with really cool things. The clock tower is so awesome! And they host a variety of events. I highly recommend a visit.
Did the Xmas lights show. Dusty but pretty.
Last year I bought the annual pass and I have no regrets. I love coming here with my kids just to walk around and have a nice peaceful trip outdoors.Kern County Museum has done such an excellent job with providing visuals of how our past residents used to live, and with keeping the preservation of the places in which those lived-in or conducted business. My family loves experiencing all of the interactive exhibits and we always look forward to the awesome events the museum has year-round.
The museum displays a lot of historical houses and shops, and was a great outdoor activity to bring our children to see what life was like during the turn of the century.
Great place for a family outing, I wonder if my friend Debbie still lives in Bakersfield
Kids fest was really good this year! Lots of fun.
No better walking museum anywhere! Kern County has done a FANTASTIC job of preserving its heritage and history!
The kids had a great time at Lori Brock. I wish they still had the news station but since the kids never went before they didnt know what they were missing?! We saw them setting up for Christmas Town so we are looking forward to that!
The peddlers sale was lots of fun it was fun to get out.
We loved Bakersfield Christmas town at this new locate. It was very very nice this year. The employees were all nice there & helpful too. Me, my kids & grand babys. Had a blast this year. Thank you all who puts this event on. I live 2 hours away. It was well worth my time to make the drive.
I absolutely love this museum! They have a awesome childrens section Lori Brock. They have a inside playground and outside. The museum is awesome, you get an eerie feeling inside the houses, and the oil section.. Awesome experience!
Their holiday events they have every year are great. The safe trick or treating is great for the kids. Christmas town is another great event they host with ice skating and sledding. They decorate all the historic buildings and houses it’s just a beautiful and fun place to go with the kids.
Alway love going to the museum
Definitely recommend stopping by! My family a and I were up in NorCal for a wedding and we didn’t want to go back home yet so we searched places to visit. We saw this and it’s on our way back and we do not regret visiting at all. It’s very interactive and nice because it’s the actually building back in the days, they even show you how they transported it. I would love to go back:)
Enjoy going to the Kern County Museum for the Annual Aztec Image Car Show. Plenty of vendors to choose from and lots of shade for warm days and plenty of beautiful vehicles to look at. Aztec Image puts on a very good show. Look forward to next years car show.
Nice quiet place to stroll, lots of cool stuff to see.
Christmas Town was wonderful. My grandson had the best time looking at all the lights and dancing to the music. We will be making this a yearly tradition.
This is an interesting outdoor museum for kids and also adults! We enjoyed the visit and also we go every year for the safe Halloween event hosted there! Is an amazing activity for the kids !
Very informative, too bad they have the only monument to Jefferson Davis in California. It is hidden under a limestone pedestal, but it is still there. Tell them to remove it or display it and provide context.
Nice and fun did a outstanding job
This place is so amazing, it proudly showed Bakersfields beautiful history!!
Great museum! Good thing we decided to stop by. Very clean and it has both indoor and outdoor display. We had a great time!
I love going to this museum. It’s a lot bigger than what I remember but I love how all of the history is their
Posole and menudo cook of 2019
The museum itself was nice. Loved walking through looking at the buildings. I was not very impressed with the Lori Brock Center though. When we walked into the room, it had toys everywhere and was complete disarray. And most of the toys were broke.
I love this place. Its fun to visit and look at the old buildings and just learn what life was like during the older times. I cant wait until my kid is old enough to take her. Any family should look into taking their kids here at least once.
Good to get out and see how the past was
Totally worth the entry fee. The employees are awesome and helpful. It is worth a visit if you are in town
Their webpage is a big hoax. It is a nice place, but nowhere near the pics on the website. The ice skating rink is plastic with water on top. There wasnt enough lighting near the sleds and paintball area. It was just average. Should have been $5 entry fee, not worth $20.
This place is wonderful, with lots of mature shade trees to give relief from the sun, as one wanders from building to building. There are about 60 restored old homes, businesses and other buildings brought in from around Kern County over the past 50 years. Each building is well maintained and has a nice display placard in front telling the history of the building and the people who lived or worked there. My husband and I spent about four hours there. This place is a treasure.
We love the Lori Brock center, the staff is AMAZING the director is so involved, the activities are wonderful and my children beg me to go every weekend. Definitely check it out.
Nice walkable outdoor museum
Kids loved the new childrens measum so much fun!
Museum has both indoor and outdoor exhibits with historic houses and old time buildings from early and mid century Kern County / Bakersfield. Steam locomotive, wooden oil derrick, old railroad jail and station. Some highlights from the Okie music and culture up through Merle Haggard. Curation is good, informal quality which will get better with time, but still worth the visit. Tells an interesting story of the area with a bit of Indigenous People exhibits, but mostly concentration is on the arrival and life from the mid 1800s on out.
The museum is a historical place and you get to see the old buildings. It is a perfect place to visit with family members. Kids would also enjoy because there is ample of space.
Aside from being just a museum it holds all kinds of events for holidays or important dates from history. Pioneer village is an interactive and education town the kids or adults can walk through and see what things use to be like. You can also hold your own events here such as weddings or parties. Beautiful spot at the gazebo for weddings
Christmas Town was super fun. I cant wait to take my kids back to learn about kern county history!
Have fun for Halloween at kern country Museum.
Perfect place to spend the day with kids. This place is a town treasure with so much to see. They have so many events here that are always a lot of fun to attend. This is our 6th year attending the safe Halloween.
Love the history all around. A beautiful place for almost any event.
It was an amazing experience loved all the old artifacts they had there
Nice calm family oriented environment
Holiday events they have every year are greatWorth your money.
Its a great place to visit. Bring a lot of memories on how the old days were.
Love Kern county museum!! Great place to take grandbabies. Show them a little history.
Kids fest was great, lots of fun activities and an area with large inflatable water slides.
Awesome historical museum. Very informational. Lori brock center was a big hit with my 3yr old. Definitely will be back.
They had a Christmas town light decoration and activities going on. I loved it!
Lots of old history and interesting history of the Central valley. Great for kids too!
Great place for young and old and for all the family. Great afternoon out lots of interesting information and very interactive. Thanks.
The Day of the Dead Festival is a must if youre are around the area. There are activities, live music and best of all; the decorated altars to families loved ones, which what brings it all together.
Wonderful place to go, just get away and walk and talk and look and imagine how they used to live
Its my best review yet ten thumbs and ten toes up for the museum of the cursed. At night the characters come alive and ben stiller is the security gaurd. Its one hell of a time.
I think we have a great museum. Tonight I went to a talk by Gil Gia about his book Race, Sports and Black Unity. Very interesting.
Excellent for more reasons than can be elaborated.
I only been there for a wedding it was a small wedding I liked it nice grass area and the salon was clean.
This place will transport you to another time, with all the beautifully preserved buildings and well done exhibits.
What a find, we love history and the museum and grounds have an excellent overview of the history of Bakersfield and surrounding environs. The 16 acres has over 40 buildings that served various purposes such as homes, businesses, a church and a school to name a few. Each one has a placard that gives the background and where it originally stood. We especially liked seeing the childhood home of Merle Haggard. Train buffs will enjoy the exhibits and train cars/engines, enjoy!!
The exhibits in the entry building are fine, but its the eclectic collection outside that makes the museum. Most aspects of pioneer life in Kern county are shown, with an extra emphasis on the petroleum industry, both past and present. Toward the right rear of the outdoor area there is a building devoted to drilling for oil, which is apparently not always open, depending on volunteer availability, and may in fact be open even when the cashier thinks it isnt, which was the case for us: we got lucky. There is not the slick presentation of a big-city museum: This looks very much like the work of a lot of dedicated volunteers, whom I thank. I would not go to Bakersfield just for this, but if youre there, and have the time, I think everyone in your party will find something of interest. After visiting I learned its in the North American Reciprocal list, but I dont begrudge paying: they can probably use the money.

I highly recommend going here during Christmas town. Theres a lot if fun activities for the kids and even an ice skating rink and a huge snow slide.
Great place to learn about Kern county with the kids and the Christmas Town was great fun
Very interesting place to visit and would recommend it if you are in area with time on your hands. Staff was friendly and helpful. To do it justice place on 2 or more hours. For a side visit see Sgts army surplus across the street. A fun day for family.
Went for an over priced field-trip. Not worth it. The actors at the booths didnt really know the material, there wasnt a lot of direction and quite a few of the buildings were inaccessible. All in all- I remember learning more when I was a 3rd grader, grinding acorns at the very same museum... For the amount of money the district paid per school I feel like they could have done a lot better. But shout out to the actor in charge of the Adobe house- he was a gem in a sea of mediocrity.
Love this place. Beautiful old Kern county homes and businesses.
If you havent been out to the museum in awhile, now is the time - the gift shop has been remodeled and Lori Wear has a new building to safely house thousands of important documents vital to preserving our local history. The outbuildings are adorable, worth your time for sure.
Liked very much. A top 10% historical attraction.

Had a blast. With my grandkids and the rest of my family
Super cool. great experience.
What a lovely find. The museum and pioneer village have been created with such thoughtfulness. The attention to detail was truly appreciated. Its a great way to learn about the history of the community. I could have stayed longer but it closes at 4 on SundayHighly recommend. It wont disappoint.
Took my granddaughter and we really enjoyed ourselves. She learned a lot. Will take other grand children as they get older.
We visited durint the Christmas Town and other events. Great place for activities with the kids and offers a glance to Bakersfield history.

The Kern county mueseum is a great place to look at history
This is a really nice clean museum with lots of authentic stuff regarding the history of Kern county, its got a huge area called the pioneer village l. Plus they have lots of cool community events
Nice place for events. Parking can be challenging.
Very cool look back in history.
Eddie is one of the best workers Ive ever seen there wish I could have a job there I could put in good quality work just like him
Awesome place!Fantastic museum and well worth the price.Beautiful little gem that holds some great history of Delano.

Great place to spend an afternoon. Knowledgeable staff, access to amenities throughout the museum. Great experience.
Lots of great food, good friends, best family buds and good drinks. Hallelujah! Though it rained on us I will do it again every year from here on out!!
A very enjoyable experience with the family.
My review is more towards the Lori Brock Museum part. I remember going there as a child and the facility was so very nice. The things there now are so used that most interactive displays dont work. There is no staff in the museum and it is so run down I have a hard time giving this a good review. When I had my daughters birthday party there, I was so disappointed with the conditions there. I know they dont have much of a budget but it was in need of a huge renovation. The activities and displays are mostly broken and they definitely do not have a creative director. If I had the money to donate I would. Unfortunately I wont be visiting here very much. Until something changes, this place remains borderline satisfactory. So many fun memories as a child have been darkened by the sad state it sits in today. :(
Why try and remember and let your mind play tricks on you. Here at the museum you can stroll down memory lane. Buildings and homes you can touch. Oh and check out the Vintage car show held here every year. Lets keep the memorys alive.. come to the museum and visit your past.
Christmas town was cool. The lights were great, they had laser tag, an ice tubing slide, but the ice skating rink threw me off because it wasnt ice you were skating on it was big blocks of plastic puzzle pieces. Boo. Get some real ice to skate on next year please.
Love this place. Its like walking back in time
Pokemon Haven
I went with my family and we all had a great time. The place is fun.
Perfect time
Nice museum and well worth a visit
