Lovely place. Good cafe near by. Very pleasant.
Bobbi Jo was very very friendly and welcoming, would stay here again just because of her! Comfy beds, very clean, and we loved that each room has history behind the pioneers of Aztec, there is also information inside the rooms about things to check out around the town. Support local businesses!
We appreciated the friendly service and cute rooms at this independently owned hotel. It was
Was a vmgreat stay. Bobbi Jo was a super host. Price is right however they are closing soon so am glad I had the opportunity to stay there.
The room was very nicely decorated in true Victorian fashion, and was very clean. Small fridge for keeping cold drinks is always a plus. Local pizza delivery was available and welcomed after a very long drive. Bed was comfortable for those who like a firm mattress. Cant forget to mention breakfast, the warm & delicious almond-covered cinnamon roll and good coffee, very nice. The dining area is nicely decorated, enjoyed the history photos. The carousel horses lining the hallway are fabulous. We enjoyed our stay, and would most definitely stay again if in the area.
Friendly staff, clean rooms great charm. 5 star in my book...
Step Back Inn really appeals to my familys appreciation for antiques and old-fashioned decor. It is not overcrowded, so being able to hear through the walls didnt cause us a problem. You do get a huge cinnamon bun for breakfast (with orange drink, tea, or coffee), but you have to ask at the front desk for it to be prepared. The dining room is quiet and filled with things from a bygone era, including two old pianos. The entire facility is wonderfully quaint and pretty, which is a big positive. There was tiny bottle 2/3 full of shampoo but no conditioner so bring whatever you might need.
Quaint, well thought out and appealing especially if you appreciate local businesses. I would stay again easily.
I liked how much cleaner the property seemed compared to other hotels. The generously sized cinnamon roll for breakfast was delicious. I also loved that I could buy the history book that provided me with new information about my pioneer ancestors.
Our room was fine and comfortable. Check in was no problem. We did not eat the cinnamon rolls though they looked great. I believe the rolls are the only thing available besides drinks. Location is central to all areas of Aztec. We were in town for a class reunion.
Stayed here a few times now travelling from the UK. Great little hotel with lovely staff and owner. Cinnamon buns for breakfast! This place is excellent value for money and only five minutes walk to the brewery! Will be back again one day.
Our room was quiet, cozy, and clean. We truly enjoyed our stay and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the area. Gave us a great recommendation for dinner; The Aztec Cafe (restaurant).
Nothing special. It was ok for one night. The continental breakfast was nowhere to be found in the morning.
It was very homey not like a chain like motel grandmas house but better because you have yoir own room
Absolutely amazing atmosphere from the old-fashioned parlour, carousel horses in the hallway, humungous homemade cinnamon buns for breakfast and Ive come home feeling. Well worth a stay.
VERY ACCOMMODATING PEOPLE
Each room is named after a founding family in the area and there is a little book about that history. The rooms are decorated in turn of the century style with some more modern furniture as well. Breakfast is a huge homemade cinnamon roll, coffee, tea, or juice. It’s like staying with family.
I was very impressed by the cordiality of the employees, the cleanliness of the facility and the overall feeling of comfort. We definitely have put Step Back Inn on our visit when in the area list.
Decor was pleasing. Our non-smoking room had a lingering smell of cigarette smoke. Staff was friendly.
I always stay here when visiting Aztec. Staff always friendly and the fresh baked cinnamon buns for breakfast are awesome!
This was a great location, could walk to the old down town and the Aztec Ruins. Has a very nice history behind the hotel.
Everything was great except for the beds. They were uncomfortable and move to much every time you move on the bed could not sleep on them. But I have to say the staff and rooms were great.
Very unique and cozy, the staff was super friendly and accommodating. Rooms were super clean and they have awesome homemade cinnamon rolls in the morning for breakfast. Will stay again if were ever back in Aztec!
Friendly staff, comfy room, decent prices.
Great rooms! Service was the best because the staff made you feel at home! Danielle who works there is one of the nicest people ever. She was so genuine and courteous and the kindness in her shone through. The Step Back Inn is one of coolest spots to lay your head after a long day of driving. Highly recommend this inn if during your travels you find yourself in New Mexico.
I must admit that I was a little skeptical because pictures are always better than the room. I had nothing to be skeptical about. From the minute I checked in to when I checked out, I felt like I was at home. The very friendly staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. Dont forget to grab a coffee and a cinnamon bun before you head out on your adventures for the day.
Nice friendly staff and great cinnamon rolls. Very clean.
Cleanest hotel room ever, and the cinnamon roll...wow! Wife loved the Victorian setting. Enjoyed family friendly country dancing Friday nights at Aztec Restaurant just walking distance from hotel.
Nice quaint easy access. Should include a true breakfast though for the price
This place is the least comfortable place you will ever stay. Beds, chairs, couch, etc all as hard as concrete. I checked and its all as old hard and squeeky as the floor. Breakfast is always a cheap cinimon roll and Tang drink. The sink and shower water is so slow that it takes forever just to get wet enough to lather up. The customer service absolutly sucks because they vacuume and bang and clean rooms all night. The key cards almost never work so you have to leave doors propped open or get locked out and since the desk person is off cleaning rooms you are just screwed when it comes to getting back in. I absolutly do NOT recommend this Step back inn to history go stay somewhere else and drive a little longer it will be worth it.
If you have the chance to go here I would very much recommend it. It was a great price for very high class and comfortable stay. I was impressed with the size of the room as well as the comfortable surroundings. The only reason for four stars is because the front desk clerk was not there at 7 a.m. And I was unable to properly check out. Other than that I found everything to be above expectations
Really bad. Vintage decor done very poorly. Cheap fake vintage. Shower would only get HOT or COLD. Nothing in between. Dirty, worn carpet. Less than helpful staff. No TV in the room. Stained bedding. Cheapy toilet paper. Seemed like a Victorian Motel 6, and they didnt even leave the light on for me.
Sweet Victorian hotel with amazing staff
Its a quaint spot. Clean and friendly staff. But no coffee until 7 am was a killer. If its not in my room, ok; but at least have it in the lobby. Also couldnt check out until 7 am, which was not convenient either. Not the place for business travelers who need an early start!
Very nice. Friendly people.
We stumbled across this on our way back to Utah from Texas. I am so glad we did. The staff was absolutely delightful. The decor was beautiful. It really was like taking a step back in time. Any time I go to Aztec New Mexico, this is where I will be staying. They treat you like family. If there were 10 stars I would have given them10
We had the best me here. It is very family friendly, the girls loved it! The homemade cinnamon rolls were divine. It was right up the street from the Aztec Ruins National Monument and just a short drive to Chaco Culture National Historical Park.
Nice little hotel. Has a shared balcony, wifi, and decent rooms loaded with local history. The owner has a long family history in Aztec and will happily talk about local history. Breakfast is a homemade (no preservatives) cinnamon bun made from scratch; no substitutions. Served with juice and coffee.
I loved the old fashioned decorations and photos. Danielle, at the front desk, was awesome and fun to talk with. The cinnamon rolls were excellent! Lovely place to stay!
Excellent location to the Aztec ruins. Clean room. Nice personal at desk check in.
Very nice and clean hotel. There are tons of antique furniture all over the hotel and bedrooms. Truly stepback in time. Queen Victoria area.
Property was quiet and comfortable. Tv channel selection is subpar. No ESPN OR NFL as well as some of the other more popular choices.
Very nice little place, homey feel and very quiet, and one of the cleanest hotels Ive ever stayed in. Homemade cinnamon rolls were amazing and a nice change from typical breakfast fare. Would absolutely come back if were ever in the area again!
Very nice, clean and comfortable. Wifi was spotty. Front desk would not answer at about 8pm though, not sure if they werent there
The room was clean & Danielle was amazing. Friendly, professional, & sweet - my mom ended up getting her a gift because that isnt usual. The other two workers were decent, though one wasnt as professional as she shouldve been.Very peaceful until other visitors came as the thin walls meant you could hear peoples in other rooms. As it is an older establishment, the ability to hear others clearly was accepted.Really liked that i could play around on the piano & that i could clean up after myself and my mother. Wish thered been more information about the hxstory of the place, specific to how the peoples interacted with the surrounding Indigenous community.
This place is like going home. Yes we will be back. Thank you so much.
Quiet and clean, old-fashioned Inn. Very unique place with antique furniture including two pianos, and real china in the parlor dining area. Definitely different than your typical hotel, more like visiting grandmas than staying at a hotel.
If your looking for a peaceful nights sleep in a clean room for comparable 2.5 star hotels in nearby Farmington, than this place is a .....good place. The staff was very pleasant & helpful.I would recommend to friends & stay again.Gave it 4 stars, not by motel rating, but a feel good rating out of 5.
Awsome
This is a nice little old hotel in Aztec, NM. I was here three years ago and decided to stay again.
This was a very mediocre experience. The beds werent very comfortable and the decor was a little strange, but it was cheap.
Lovely setting. Like the bed and breakfast in Groundhog day. Very nice.
I notified Expedia within the time allowed for cancellation and received a response that it was cancelled. obviously I did not show up and was charged anyway. Not happy.
(3 1/2 stars would be more accurate)Nice clean hotel. Kitschy decor, minimal amenities in the rooms. No coffee pot, no fridge, no microwave, small 19 television from 1985 or so hooked up to a Dish Network box. WiFi is advertised, but my room in the center of the hotel had no signal. The common area has tables, small ice maker, and coffee pot, not much else. Large area for parking, but would be difficult to get a trailer through the road maze into the lot.Staff was very friendly and eager to please and the pricing is good compared to other nice hotels in the area.Yes, there are cheaper hotels available in Aztec but you may not want to stay there. You want a nice hotel with amenities go to Farmington and pay a little more.
Super nice folks, hotel is going thru some remodeling so it had a few cosmetic flaws. Definitely not a strategic stop from Deep South Texas to the SLC but it was a surprising Oasis of friendliness in the unforgiving state of New Mexico. Scouts out!!! Thanks! Cinnamon rolls n coffee for breakfast R yummy as well..
This is a great place to stay.
Its a cozy place with really cool antiques and the cinnamon rolls are the best!
Spacious rooms, super clean and well cared for, very friendly staff, huge cinnamon rolls juice and coffee for breakfast. Quiet, set well back from the street and built so none of the rooms face the road. Great value for the price!
Nice hotel very cozy and clean, great customer service, down to earth owners not a franchise, keeping it small and simple for the guest and the and just awesome must see for yourself
Very nice experience . great folks.nice and clean.
Great staff, fair price, clean cute rooms, you honestly cant ask for a better find when your on the road.
Nice motel-ish B&B-ish Inn.Good place to stop for a night.A bit high prices for what it is.
So freakin cute.
The rooms are very clean and the staff was great. Thats about where the good ended for me. One plus is the AC fan does run when the compressor shuts off rather than shake the walls and wake you up.Theres no WiFi not CAT5 cable in the rooms. There is public WiFi if you go to the little room by the office. The bathroom is very small and cramped with no dressing area. I realize they are trying to conserve water but the shower head they chose was terrible. Its to high for anyone less than 5 5 to even reach. It sprays in a circle and being mounted so high, it was a very large circle by the time it get to you. I found myself searching for water to rinse off. I have a water conserving shower at home and do not have this issue. Walmart sells very nice water conserving shower heads and for the rate I paid for the room they could replace the shower head in every shower. While Im on the subject of the room rate they could afford two WiFi repeaters. The beds were a little firm but not too bad. If you have your own pillow take it in.In conclusion if Im through this area in the future I have to say, Farmington or Cortez would offer better choices for the money. A lower price or a few changes in services would easily fix this.
Nice place!
Fancy
Couldnt even get waited on!
Great service clean rooms cant say enough good things
A very quaint place
The place is like stepping back. Simple cute and cozy. I really enjoyed it. I come from a small town and it was nice. The maintenance is spot on. I didnt see anything that needed attention to.
