Excellent programs & a real character builder for kids.My daughter played rec & now JR Academy. Her skills in soccer & social skills in life have both advanced. The competition is fun & most parents are very cool. There is always that 1 dad but overall top to bottom Lonestar is a great club & I have no hesitation recommending them.
Launch Star Clowns. I don’t know how a child can get anything useful out of a club that plays soccer unlike any other club, college, pro team, ect. When the game is close the spikes start flying at opposing teams to create space. Keep your feet on the ground and play real soccer so your wins mean something.
We are on our 2nd season with lone star and my 6 year old son is obsessed with soccer. We were at Justin lane last year and Morrow street this year, both of which are directed by Sam. Sam is very attentive and somehow know just about every kids name when the season starts. My son loves each coach he has had including summer camp. We didnt win many games last season, so it definitely isnt a focus on winning so much as player development. I actually am glad they didnt win much at the beginning Because when they started winning they were so appreciative and saw how teamwork got them there. My son naturally wants to play defense and his coaches have encouraged that. They havent tried to force him into another spot. I only wish we could receive the schedules for the first 2 weeks of games sooner as its hard to plan. But, I understand how difficult it is to put together a schedule this big and that it takes time.
We had awfully bad experience with this club. At the beginning, it took more than 2 months to do tryouts and get into the team. Later, the coaching wasnt organized and kids werent receiving any progress in soccers skills. After bearraly winning few games in one season we decided to stay next one, hoping for the best. The second season even got worse. Within 2 months the progress of the team went down. All potentials of kids werent developed. The team didnt win any single game and looks like the coach didnt care about it. We decided to quit. My kid was discouraged from loosing and bad coaching. This is not right. We were expecting good professional attitude from the club, especially when you paying such money. We are very disappointed.
Save your time and money. Both my boys loved soccer prior to their Lonestar experience, now one is done with soccer completely while the other is indifferent. One of my sons was mis-positioned most of time and went backwards on his skills throughout his time with Lonestar. The paid coach for his team was worse than any volunteer coach I’ve seen over past 10 years on many other clubs. The development was poor, and communication from coach and league even worse. My other son played on junior academy. His coach should never have been coaching that age. The win at all cost attitude was evident in the championship game when our coach had 2 other players “added” to the roster in case the full team didn’t show up. Instead we had subs while the other team was short a player. Instead of loaning one of these added players to the other team, he forced them to play a man down. Needless to say, our team dominated the whole game and won...at which our coach was the only one excited and screaming “we won”.Our experience was nothing but poor. Do yourself a favor and find another club where you don’t waste time or money.
I put my son on their Winter Camp to see if it make sense to put him on their expensive clinic. He Got injured on the second session, so he missed the rest of it. I contacted Zack Pope thru email text and phone call and has not gotten an answer back. I was simply asking if there’s any other option for my son, whether there’s other option they can offer. A response to would have appreciated. There’s also so many kids per trainer and I am not sure how effective it will be. Today I received an email from Zach inviting us to join their summer camp. It lead me to think that they’re all about money and customer service is horrible. My son is better off somewhere else.
We’ve been with lonestar for three years and it has been an entirely positive experience for our family. Our player has developed with the guidance of his coaches, and I’ve been impressed with their high expectations of both players and parents.
Depends on what team you get but mostly very good coaching, players, and organizations, definitely if you live in the Austin area and wanna play soccer this is the recommended youth club.
A great club with advanced coaches and teaching methods.I have learned so much, grew as a player, and had a great time doing it. Definitely recommend! Only problem is its a little expensive !
Lonestar is a terrible organization. Please dont send your kid here if you dont want your kids love for soccer to diminish. Ive had friends of mine come to me and say that their coaches told them they would never be good players and wouldnt bother coaching a loser. They encourage poor sportsmanship and rough play to get other opponents injured. This happened when I was watching my sisters soccer game when she was playing against a lonestar team and this game was indoors which means the game is just for reps. During the game Lonestar players were pushing and shoving to intentionally injure some of our players. We had 3 girls of ours leave the game with injuries including one getting a concussion for being slammed against the wall. After the game we had some of our parents confront the other team and the lonestar parents proceeded to criticize our players saying things like too bad your kid isnt good enough to compete and maybe she shouldnt play at this level. This enraged us and a fight almost broke out when one of the Lonestar dads got into the face of one of our parents. All in all, DONT PUT THEM IN LONESTAR! Be my guest though if you want to waste your money and make your kid lose their hopes of ever playing soccer for fun.
I just learned today that my sons coach is also on charge of another 6 teams, thus he did not show up to the game but instead send a sub.It gets better, the sub already told the team another sub will take over for the next game. Is this for real?If the kids are going to improve they need feedback from their coach on playing days. This approach of main coach sending subs defeats any continuity or long term progress. Quite dissatisfied so far.
I really liked this organization a lot, but injury held me back a lot and my skill level upgraded just a little bit, but i just didnt fell like i belonged to my recent team. Hands down some of the best coaches in Central Texas, but i just felt like the fun got taken away from me this past year. I also kinda sorta liked where i was put, but the style of play that i was supposed to learn wasnt my style. I like being physical on the field but i was supposed to learn technical skills. Thats fine, but i wouldve had to work a lot harder to learn something new with everyone who already knew technical style. I appreciated my time here and it has been fun, but im calling it quits and hope to see this organization rise up in the future.
Fantastic organization. Our son and daughter are both in the program starting in the recreational league and now in Junior Academy. They have picked up a love for the game from the coaches and other kids in the program. We find the practices and games to be very well run. Our family looks forward to several more years of Lonestar soccer!
Is there the chance to give this club 0 Star? The worst soccer program that ever existed.Do yourself a favor, keep your money and kids away from this scam.
Great club. Great coaches. My sons skill level and love for the game grew immensely when he started select two years ago. Couldnt have asked for a better experience. Second generation to go to LSC. My niece went all the way through and ended up with a four year scholarship.
I definetly recommend the junior academy. We have noticed night and day with our child from recreational Lonestar, so worth the money.
I paid $315 in registration fees over a month ago. I was told I would receive an email from my son’s team. I have sent several emails to Grant, and left him a voicemail. I still haven’t heard from anyone. My son would like to play soccer, but I can’t get anyone to reply to my voicemail or emails. What is going on?
They advertise tryouts. Is the biggest fat lie I ever heard. All the new players got group together regardless of the skill level. Thats why they keep parents as far away as they can so no body can see what skill level the players have.
Attempted to obtain information regarding the Buda club on more than 5 times via text, online forms, and calling the office directly. Never received a return phone call from the Buda Director. I guess they are not interested in growing that location!
Huge non-profit organization. They got big by absorbing a few of the larger local Austin clubs. With this growth, they now enjoy a near monopoly on competitive youth soccer in the Austin Area. This can be a good thing and a bad thing. Good thing, they have a lot of teams and exposure to local and regional soccer associations. (i.e, networking) Bad thing, the coaches are spread out on the thin side. Your coach will probably have up to 2 to 4 teams that they are responsible for or involved with. If you need to talk with a coach you may have to wait a few days to hear back from them. If your child, especially boys, are going to be on the large and tall side, your child will do execeptionally well and will tend to stay on the same team or a least move up to the next level. If your child is on the medium to small size, your going to be moved around quite a bit regardless of how talented your child might be. This is where politics will play an important aspect of dealing with Lone Star. So if your not into politics, you might want to look elsewhere. Just keep this in mind, ask your child are they really having fun with Lone Star and make sure you ask often. There is nothing worse then shelling out anywhere from $1800.00 - $2300.00/year only to find out that 5 years down the road your child is really unhappy and disappointed playing for Lone Star. That money could be better spent on other things, like college.
I registered my daughter for the Recreational Spring Season of 2015. I have heard so many great things about Lonestar I wanted to see how my daughter liked playing in the Rec league before I invested in the Jr. Academy. While I understand the recreational league is rather new, I thought the organization would be a little more, well, organized! There were only 4 teams, and by the end of the season only 4 or 5 kids from each team bothered to even show up to games anymore. Several games were so shorthanded they had to combine 2 teams vs. 2 teams. It was ridiculous. There was no real team feel to this organization. Just a lot of yelling from the director at random practices for kids to push harder. There was 1 exceptional team with great players, while the other 3 teams were made up of new players and a few seasoned players. It just didnt seam fair to me to have the teams set up like this. Of course theyre going to win every game! It got to a point where the kids didnt even want to play against that team. I thought my daughter would have fun playing soccer like she has been for the past 6 years. But she didnt even want to participate in the games. Ill be going back to the YMCA until she starts middle school. My recommendation: unless you are paying big money into this organization, dont bother.
Wonderful experience. Wonderful coaches. Well run organization
After paying for my son in May/June 2013 for the fall soccer season, specifically asking for keeping him on the same team and paying WELL IN ADVANCE. They did not keep him on the same team. My son refused to play on the new team. I communicated w/Dominique Butler (who never replies to an email) and then was emailed by Theresa Piegat who did communicate and said Id be reimbursed. To this date, I have not bee reimbursed, nor has anyone bothered to respond to my emails on several attempts. While this organization does a good job at most things, they do a terrible job at responding and reimbursing!
I love lone star
