Pretty cool, intimate spot for live music. Not exactly my cup of tea but I can see the appeal. It is an intimate space, so itll be loud and crowded. But any of the bands Ive heard there were great. They also charge cover.
We could not come to Austin and not visit the Continental Club. Its reputation as an awesome music venue is wide spread. The have a happy hour Monday through Friday from opening to 7pm.This is a fun dive bar that has great music and cheap drinks. Dress was relaxed and casual. Seats are scarce so if sitting is important arrive early. If you dont arrive early you will be standing the entire evening. Standing is not a problem if you enjoy connecting with the energy the room. There was plenty of dancing and lots of smiles. The service was friendly and quick. There is a calendar of entertainment on their website with other details that can be helpful.
It was great! Not to pricey and the bartenders and waitresses and bartenders were awesome! One pet peeve though... Soul Man Sam was plating and I thought he was opening for Dale Watson... But they ushered everyone out and then the second crowd came in??? I found that odd but maybe Ive been home too long! Both shows were awesome! Forgot how much I loved Dale!
Wonderful small intimate live venue located right on the main street of South Congress. Excellent sound system. Few seats inside so arrive way to claim your place. Lots of neighborhood restaurants to go to before the show, all in walking distance of The Club. Excellent shows, we will be back.
Continental club came highly recommended and we were looking forward to an evening of good blues. AND THE BLUES WERE GREAT! Unfortunately, the bar tender was not. We arrived around 5:30 pm and were thoroughly enjoying the band. My 3 friends got a round of drinks, their first of the evening. We went back for a second round and were told we were too intoxicated. We literally were sitting in the back of the room in the provided seating area listening to the music, doing nothing out of the ordinary. I asked for an explanation, the bartender said we had clearly been drinking all day. I told her we had just arrived downtown, she said she had to do what her manager said. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager said she backed her bartender and couldnt legally serve intoxicated people. I asked how we were overly intoxicated and she just said she trusts her bartender. Unfortunately the night we had highly anticipated ended quickly because we did not feel welcome.
Loved the live music here. $5 cover and located right on South Congress. Dance floor and lighting makes for a good atmosphere. Tables and couches border the dance floor.
Amazing local place to listen to some classic Texan sounds. We went on a Sat and Soul Man Sam was I incredible. The vibe of the the continental is great. The only issue is the doorman who is quite rude.
Classic, live music venue with great acts. This place is timeless and classic. There arent many spots like this in the US.Stop in around five and avoid paying the cover and get some happy hours deals.A great Austin iconic bar. Dont change a thing, you are perfect just the way you are!!
Fantastic Monday Happy Hour show with the Peterson Brothers. Those kids can play some guitar.
A-MAZING. Such good music. Good drink prices. The live music though..so awesome. They have covers (ours was $8 on Sunday night) but well worth it. Drinks are about $6 (obviously depending). Will definitely go back!
This was my first visit & besides having a long line to get in, standing room only inside, the band FlyJack was AMAZING! The talent was over the top!! Had me zoned in & absorbing the energetic vibes till 2 a.m in heels! Been in Austin since 84- Ive been missing out!
Cool place, bar staff was awesome very Accommodating. This tiny music venue is perfect for getting that up close intimate show you have been looking for. Get your tickets early.
Awesome place. Live music and the service was great considering how busy they were. No need to go to 6th Street South Congress is the new place to go. Have fun tip well
Great music. They have updated the womens bathroom. Disappointing. It hadnt been cleaned in 50 years. Now its clean and boring, other than the graffiti on the he walls. So I added my own. Always a good time at the Continental.
Awesome blues every Friday and no cover charge until 9pm. An Austin classic!!
We had a great experience when we stumbled into the upstairs Gallery and the Thursday night songwriters residency with Bonnie Whitmore. Her guest that evening was Susan Gibson. Both fun ladies, great artists and writers! What a joy!
A No-Frills iconic Austin venue with friendly staff. Get there early to get a spot close to the stage, the place usually gets pretty crowded but everyone is understanding and we are all there for the music. We recently went to see Jesse Dayton open for Horton Heat and decided to splurge for two of the six VIP seats. At first we felt crammed-in to the spot at the bar just to the left of the entrance, however it had a great (raised) view and the bartenders were attentive. Get there early to get the best choice of those six seats. Of course, Jesse rocked our socks off!!! His clever wit is greatly appreciated in these not-so-funny times.
Its an Austin landmark for a reason. Great shows most any time of day, and decently priced drinks. Seating can be hard to come by, but thats only a small price to pay.
Fabulous, funky hole-in-the-wall with great drinks! The Blue Moon Quartet (Trio the night we went) are very talented and a delight! There is a ping-pong table on the upper level, too.
Totally Texas! This place is awesome! I am from Ohio and they had a killer band on a Monday night that made it feel like a Saturday night. Really good time. Would definitely come back.
Friday nights happy hour was great, as was the band. Our waitress was fast and efficient - and cheerful! - even though the place was slammed.
Being in Austin one of the best known live music scenes in the US, I felt that if I didnt see some live music on my visit would be a catastrophic failure. So on my last full day in Austin, one of the main things on my list was to go see some live music, and the continental club was on the top of my list of where to go. Continental Club is a great and intimate place to watch music.
Went to see Dale Watson. To small and crowded didnt have any room to dance. They had about four tables to sit at and other then that had to stand in a large crowd. If there was a fire I dont think would have turned out well for the patrons. The staff and bartenders were awesome though! Now if you are a Texan you know you have to dance to Dale Watson when he is on stage.
Just come here. Monday nights are when the P brothers play and that in and of itself warrants a visit to this venue. Great great band, hard to get to the front for service but we’ll priced if you make it out with a drink.
Been going here for many years....always a great show and fun people!
Quintessential Austin hangout. You could do something like welcome Scott H Biram back into town or enjoy the songwriting genius of James McMurtry
Awesome spot on SoCo in ATX. Go for the free (no cover) early shows. Great live music with authentic old time Texas vibe.
Great music and atmosphere!
This is the beating heart of this town. One of the few authentic venues left. I promise you I will be looking to move if this place ever closes.
Great music and excellent service. Get ready for some great two step dancing.
Neat location, extremely unwelcoming. The man at the door seemed annoyed and aggressive. Unsure of the vibe this club is going for. Least friendly place Ive visited in Austin.
Saw some great ragtime and blues performers when I went. Good drinks and nice bartenders.
I waited outside under their tiny awning in the pouring rain for over 45 minutes before moving to a store that was still open. Someone inside yelled out doors will open at 8. I flew to Austin with a group of 50 ladies for a getaway weekend and this club was cited as a must attend, get there early or no seat! Once inside the music was so good, but sitting listening to music while I was soaked and cold didn’t shine over the music. The manager could have let us in early. We left early so they lost revenue by having 50 ladies leave early.
Class act bartenders and no cover Monday with the Peterson Brothers, nothing else to say here. Enjoy!
An iconic small music venue in Austin. Up close and personal with seating. Highly recommend!
Always fun here! This time I caught the Greyhounds, who were playing some new tunes. Theres ice cold Topo Chico if you arent drinking.
If youve never been...you have never been to Austin! Local secret...go see Jon Dee Graham on Wednesday nights!
Great venue for live music... located in the very hip SoCo neighborhood in Austin.
Great place and it would have got 5 stars but now theres a cover charge for every band. So you pay once to go in to watch a band when they finish you have to leave and pay again to watch the next band.
The regular Sunday band is not to be missed along with the dance floor worn to the cement by ages of relentless two stepping. Sit in front for best view of the dancin!
Way overpriced cover (varies per artist). Kind of dull vibe, but overall fun. You can find better free music in Austin.
Great venue for live music and dancing. Bit if a dive bar. Well worth going.
Always a great place to catch some local bands that will make you leave with a smile and want to go back for more.
Great music but needs more security with the crowds.
Go to the Gallery next door for a better time. Theyre sister bars but one is trying too hard and the other isnt trying at all. Guess its a judgement call but the Gallery has a good bartender and a Ping Pong table.
Coolest place in town #porkmafia
Really great music and awesome band playing. The cover was $17 for the night but the beers were around $5.50 per beer
Who doesnt love this place? Classic bar for live music in Austin, Texas. Saw two outstanding bands on the same stage.
I went twice. The first time I was told to leave or pay the cover of $8 because some random performer was playing. Its cool I understand the business tactic however I did not appreciate being told by 3 people about the cover charge in a matter of 30 mins. I went in for one beer!! Other than that, the bar had a warm vibe, drinks were good, decent priced-- which is why I went back the second time.
John X getsem the 5 Stars...Been going there since late 60s.
One of the better places to see a show in Austin. Some good names roll through but the local unknowns dont disappoint at all. Sweet location too, lots of options to check out before or after a show. Its not the biggest spot so get there early.
Fun sort! Great bands and cheap drinks!
Great historic Austin Venue. Great music. Like Saxon, perhaps a little earthier. Punkier.
Great place for live music! An Austin must
This place has a lot of history and has a neat feel. Enjoyed the live music!
Awesome band and our waitress was wonderful - especially for a Friday night!
Hot Club of Cowtown - great music! Get there early if you want to sit. Busy place. Barkers were excellent, too!
Super venue for live music in the middle of Austin’s popular live music scene. Small and intimate, you will have a true localLive music experience at one of Austin’s most popular spots. You are likely to see a memorable show and have a blast at The Continental Club and afterwards, stop by Homeslice for an authentic slice of New York pizza!
How could you not love this place. Great music in the heart of it all although it gets super crowded on show nights, but hey, thats what its all about, no?
Enjoyed the music and service. Did not enjoy waiting outside nearly 45 minutes after the posted doors time.
A true Austin tradition! Live music 7 nights a week! If you like live music, this is the place for you!
I walk Congress with my fiance, which we love, for the people watching. We dipped into here once for a beer, now every time on Congress, we have to stop for a beer and a shot(s) lol. Great music on stage sometimes and that down home bar feeling! We jokingly call it the Contraband club because we got very drunk there and got stuck trying to pronounce continental while slurring! Lol
We paid cover and they would not let us back in. Despite the fresh stamps on our hands, the door man wanted us to pay cover again. Disappointing customer service.
This place is very lively and we had a lot of fun here! Can get a bit crowded but everyone is very respectful and friendly. Would recommend if you are looking for some great music to hear!
Wonderful place to get yall tonk on.
Fabulous place to see live music! Great vibe and decent drinks.
Saw The Paladins play last night (4/12/19) and if was AWESOME! Our names were on the list for friends of the band and we got in with no hassle, anytime we went to get drinks, we were at the bar for less than a minute before being helped (considering it was a packed house, thats AWESOME!), bathrooms were clean... ish... And we had a great time. Ill DEFINITELY be back there again!
Got to see James McMurtry on Wednesday Eve of Thanksgiving in his local. Great performance.
Drinks were perfect and fast!! Absolutely wonderful for live music and dancing. Pool table too
Visited the club twice this weekend...great place for us older follks!!
The bar is very popular with live country music. Great place to be on weekend. Definately would go back.
I come here for a variety of events, art openings, dance parties and fundraisers. I love the liquor and beer selection. I love that the keep drinking water available at all times. I like to decor or the space the benches and seating. When there is a dance party the seats give to a great resting vantage spot to people watch. The sound system is top notch also. I like that they were able to entertain two separate music genres in the two rooms. I love the artwork I see every time I go.
Great vibes with a chill backroom that you can relax at and still watch the show
Best live music venue ever!
Great spot for live bands. They charge $1 per credit card transaction, so keep that in mind.
Arguably the best live music venue in Austin... Definitely a must-see if you are in town... From Europe or from the suburbs.
Not my favorite in Austin.. awkward seating arrangements and way overpriced... Good music though
It is impossible to find words in the English language to describe The Continental Club. It is beyond anything I ever imagined. A legendary music hot spot. You have to go. Dont wait, dont say maybe in a few months just go...now.
Always a fun show happening here. Its a bar, but, the stage is the focus. You cant ignore the history, either. Its a great place.
The Peterson brothers made a great show, standing room only.
Amazing music venue. Has a really great vibe. Cozy and intimate. Great cocktails.
Great atmosphere for outstanding live music. We will be back.
Great music and mellow crowd. This place is very busy with a small bar so you may have to wait a few to get a beverage but be patient, the vibe is worth it!
This place is great! Very friendly staff and bartenders and the music was PHENOMENAL! If your in Austin and enjoy live music youve got to check this place out! We will definitely regularly visit here on our trips to Austin!
Came on a Tuesday and saw uncle Lucius who was amazing. It definitely gets crowded so I would recommend getting there early. The group members all had a unique voice and the worked so well together. Everyone was dancing and having a great time. Would definitely come back!
We had a good time at the Continental Club! Really great live music, great drink, some people were dancing on lively tunes, all inside an old fashioned style place.
Some good music happens here. Small and intimate, you get to know the musicians. Drinks available at the bar. Informal and comfortable.
Loved the live music and bands that play here!
Great musicSmall dance floorUncomfortable seatingUncomfortable viewingHigh top tables are goodDefinitely not enough seatingToo many people standing in the way of the seated ones
Awesome place to see a show. Very intimate and fun. I will absolutely be back.
Amazing live music, great bar service and good crowds
