Excellent collection. We enjoyed our visit very much (Dec 2019)
Very worth the money/donation (since Sundays are free) wish I had had more time here but its small enough to see everything if youre in a hurry
This museum exceeded my expectations. You’ll probably get lost in their gift shop, so be prepared to spend some time/money in here.Sometimes they have free admissions, so I would recommend to ask. This museum is full of culture, and history. You leave the place learning something new.
For a little Gallery they have quite a beautiful array of wonderful artist and a really good display for El Día de Los Muertos.
Nice little art museum highlighting local Mexican artist that have been doing big things in the community and for the culture. Nice little souvenirs also. Perfect for a date especially with the rona going around. Don’t forget your mask!
Friendly small museum. Loved the gallery and colorful art and history associated to the artist. That was very inspiring. Nice little gift shop.
Very nice exhibits of the Dia de los muertos ..found some nice things in the gift shop too. I would recommend a Visit ..
Great place to visit, Save the building surrounded with Austin High Rise Buildings, this museum has a lot to offer inside. Short walk to everything, great place to make it part of your Tour.
This was an amazing experience with my 7 year old son who loves art! They have a great gift shop and offer online, at home art ideas as well. We will be visiting regularly.
Lets just say I took my girlfriend here shes of latina heritage and fell in love with me again . Art was really unique, so unique I purchased art from this exibit that day .
A nice little place to view Latino artists work.
Best museum Ive been too so far, theyre really nice people && always on top of disinfecting the entrance, doors, restrooms, etc... The gallery showing are amazing, lots of history in that museum highly recommend bringing your friends and family here!!
Super small and not a lot of art to call a museum in my opinion. 7.00 just to walk a few feet. The gift shop was nice and tons of cool items. The staff was incredibly RUDE. The little girl at the gift shop register was miserable and unwelcoming. Not to just to our group, but others I witnessed. I noticed theres been other reviews about a girl in the gift shop being rude. Her daddy must own it, cant get fired and miserable cause of it. Just my guess, why else would they keep such bitterness on staff. I was embarrassed she was a representation of the Mexican culture at such a place that supposed to celebrate and educate on my roots. Shame.
Neat 20-30 minute mini-museum with exhibits that arent the norm for the USA (a good thing).
Not open till Dec. 15 - but the museum shop is open to see and buy artists products.
Enjoyed it but expected a more culture experience
A nice space with an interesting variety of work. When we went it was a collection of graphic art. I very much enjoyed the exhibition of 12 x12 works from local artists on a common theme that is used to fund their local projects. With a visit!
We went for my sons culture project in high school Spanish class. I thought it was going to be a museum. I guess it is, but the display was on day of the dead, dia de muertos. There were lots of example dead person altars, build in remembrance of a lost loved one. Lots of culture for sure. A bit freaky for us, topped off with some parade float stuff form keep austin weird parades. However, we got the story we needed for my sons project and report. Unfortunately, one exhibit showed the establishments true colors. It was an exhibit about innocent and kind people being treated unfairly when they enter the american border illegally. There as a figure of a boy in what looked a nacho libre outfit, representing the plight of all children against white people and walls. Weird and liberal. Did not appreciate the politics. But hey, it was free. Probably wont go back.
This museum caught my eye walking by, and I was blown away by the pieces inside. I loved how local art was displayed and highlighted. The themes were moving and spoke to me. As a native Texan and Latina, this experience was humbling and inspiring. Whatever walk of life you come from, please stop by and see what meaning you glean from this special gallery. Whether youre looking for beauty, emotion, or something else, youll walk away with something important.
This place has more of a gallery feel than a museum you can even buy the art in the second half. Its worth noting that its free on sundays and the day of the dead stickers in the gift shop features popular characters from every genre.
What a terrific museum. I highly recommend Mexic-Arte Museum. So many amazing print artists! I cant wait to come back.
Nice collection of pieces, some challenging, some evocative. Free Sundays!
This small museum is well worth a visit. At certain times of the year, elaborate Mexican shrines to the dead are on display, made by family members, and every one is different, as it will feature objects that had meaning to the departed. Some will be very personal and poignant, and some funny. All are colorful and interesting.I was pleased that you are allowed to take photographs. Ive visited twice, different years, and the displays were entirely different. There is also a section with items for sale at very reasonable prices. A good place to find a momento to take home for yourself, or for a friend or family member. The staff are friendly, and the experience is delightful. It is great for what it is, but it is a small place, which is the only reason I didnt rate it five stars.
I would say this is more of a small collection of items than a museum. The largest portion of the exhibit was a border wall themed area where you can write a message on a bandana and tie it to the wall. The other was an area dedicated to the recent tragedy at the mall in Texas. Personally would have liked to have seen more about artists and culture and less political commentary. Frida was all over the gift shop. Nowhere in the museum proper.
This was a really cool Mexican art shop. Lots of different types of art by different artists. The store itself is pretty small, but they have some unique and funny gifts as well. You notice the art as you walk by and window shop, but if you go inside theres so much more to see. The staff was nice and helpful.
Wonderful collection of Mexican art. Great little gift shop too. Feels good to be a tourist man.
What a lovely place (although small)
Rly cute and charming throughout, enjoyed every piece and every single angle they took with their focus and range. Also, the workers are cute af, loved the gift shop~
Such a cool art museum. Local Austin pieces and great price to view, free! Chick at the front desk, super rude. Think she is not happy there. Hope the best for her future non-customer facing endeavors. Otherwise, great venue.
Pretty cool, small museum with a variety of pieces and displays. Most placards also in English. Gift shop had some unique items. No bookbags in the exhibits, just set them behind the counter. Not bad for $5.
Beautiful exhibits and a great gift shop. The space is a very necessary outlet for the Mexican-Amaerican story to be told
A wealth of Chicano and Latinx imagery with rotating exhibits and even art from children.
Sunday’s the museum is free to all. Has great exhibits and the gift shop is a must. Great location with plenty of parking near by.
It ya left right. Jac El mundo luness modo
Delightful, intimate museum in downtown Austin with rotating exhibits and a great gift shop.
Definitely worth the drive to downtown Austin. The exhibits featured there are both emotionally moving, captivating, and culturally enlightening. Use of space is well executed, and well maintained. Great art and great staff!
I was visiting from NY, so had no idea of what to expect. Mexic-Arte is a small pocket museum, where you can walk thru the gallery in a handful of minutes. But I took more time to read the placards and really look at the photos and artwork. I came away with more understanding and depth of culture. I think it was time well spent. If I lived nearby, I like to come by on a regular basis, as I am sure that the exhibits chnage from time to time.
I enjoyed the time here. The exhibits were very interesting and the back area had so much local artist for sale. We even got to meet the gentleman who created the main exhibit so that was nice. Well worth paying for but we got lucky and showed up on a Sunday where its free.
Small museum in downtown Austin, rotating exhibits of modern art in various media by Latino artists. Free on Sunday. Parking in the streets. Will come again to see a new show.
Really cute! Loved it!
Tiny museum. Art was interesting but doesn’t take much time to get through. Shop has a lot of interesting finds.
Please visit this lovely little spot for some amazing, topical art, history and an appreciation for something you might not be familiar with, as I was.
Beautiful art museum that features Latino Artists. Often times in art museums, modern art and local artist aren’t offered a space, especially not artists of color but they Mexic-Arte museum establishes an incredibly reflective and open space to appreciate the narratives of latinidad.
I love smaller museums and this is no exception. Such beautiful artwork and interesting exhibits.
It was beautiful....came with my sons school art club..
Beautiful and eye opening experience to help brigde a gap between peoples knowledge of Mexican Influrnce in the culture of America.Canadian coming to Texas for the first time and I absolutely loved this stop.
Lots of interesting and beautiful Mexican art. Also great for souvenirs however had to give it one star because we just felt very unwelcomed from the second we walked in the door. We said hello to the young lady sitting at the counter. Her acknowledgement was to look up and give us a nasty look. We were the only people in the store for about 10 minutes and she never spoke a word or looked up or smiled. We left without buying anything. It was really uncomfortable
When we went I was moved to tears by the art demonstrating the experience of mexican people caused by the invasion and hatred of the US. Incredible.
Loved the art and gift shop! Quaint little museum. Definitely want to visit next time I am in town.
Free every Sunday. Very cool fun and different!!
Something cool too do in your free time they have a nice gift shop as well
This is a fantastic, if small, collection of Mexican and Chicano/a art. I was lucky to be here right after the Dia do los Muertos parade in Austin and they had several of the floats on display, as well as several ofertas. I particularly enjoyed the explanation of the meaning of each of the parts of the ofertas. I was able to learn a lot which has increased my appreciation of the holiday. There was also an excellent collection of prints. I know the place is small and the exhibits vary often, but if you enjoy Latin culture this is a must-see. Great value too, $7 admission.
Different, unique, some hands on art for museum goers
Small museum. Emotionalally charged displays. A celebration of death and life.
So cool!I love that place.
Awesome museum. Will definitely return and next time it’ll be with more people.
This museum has a wonderful rotation of exhibits! The admission price is only $5 for adults and $4 for students. They sell lovely items in the gift shop that help support the museum. I only wish that their signs were a bit more descriptive of the art on display, especially for the video media.
Great place to just take a small trip. They may not have alot of stuff to show but it was the best place I have been to. The art really moved me.
Go now and see the John Cobb exhibit. Look him up. AMAZING!!!! Egg tempura with gold leaf and both SPIRITUAL and EXCELLENT ART! I have rarely seen any artist pull that off. John Cobb is the real deal! Kudos to Mexic-Arte Museum for the exhibit!
Its a fairly small but intereting more towards an art gallery. Theres a small chapel house in one exhibition room. An artist and his work were there when I visited. Hes very nice and he explains everything regarding to his painting to you.
Really cool place! As a Mexican American woman, its absolutely fascinating to see artwork about your people. The museum was small, with a cute shop selling Mexican art and knick knacks. Admission is FREE on Sundays, and they do student discounts. Only 4 stars because when my boyfriend and I went, they only had one exhibit open. Not their fault, still was a great experience!
Mexic-Arte Museum is a small but wonderful museum. Every exhibit we have visited has been beautiful and interesting. We always learn a little something more from these talented artist. The culture and history displayed is rich and gorgeous.
Very cool exhibit about print art.
Always enjoyable here and Sundays are free.
Amazing place. A must visit. The Indian flag is upside down
Always make sure to stop in when Im in town. Always great exhibits and I DARE YOU to go into the gift shop and leave empty handed. Its impossible
Beautiful representation of Mexican culture. Lots of interesting and powerful pieces, sculptures and historical artifacts all from Mexican or Hispanic artists. Really delicious Mexican candy for sale as well while you ponder at the amazing exhibitions.
Not too big of a museum, but very nice art, with good details about the artist and region the art derivatives from.
Lost of cultural art.
Just Outstanding Things To See and Buy Too..
Go on Sunday when its free, its awesome. Its great seeing all the different types of art from other parts of the world.
Great art work. Would like to see them expand to larger premises to display more.
Nice place!
Great exhibits. I learned aspects of central American culture that I did not know.
Full of culture. Once a week free admission. In heart of Austin, TX
Really interesting art! Its also free on Sunday.
Great way to celebrate dia de los muertos. There was arts and crafts activities for the kiddos.
Good Atmosphere
One of my favorite museums I have visited. Cannot praise the thought-provoking, moving exhibits enough. If youre thinking about visiting, absolutely do so
Good service, good food and prices ok!
Very nice place !!!
We visited the museum today specifically to see the nativity scene exhibit and it is fantastic. Admission is free on Sundays and parking in the area is easy.
Small and eclectic. I cannot wait to pass along what I saw to the art teachers in my largely Latino high school.
A small but interesting collection of art and history packed into an easy-to-access storefront downtown. Very unique and thoughtfully curated. The gift shop is cute too.
Great place to visit the only down side is that is AC was not working
This is an amazing place where you find all the cultures at a single place. This a huge diversity place.
On my first trip to Austin, the first thing I wanted to do was go to the Mexci-Arte museum. Coming from NC, I’m limited on museums that celebrate being latinx/chicanx and loved walking through here. Plus, it’s free on Sunday, so save the money to spend in their gift shop!
Cool stuff
Awesome artwork and great giftshop
A piece of the Mexican culture. Go check it out when ever in town
A great place to gift shop! Theres a lot of unique items and the front desk lady was very kind. The only downfall was that the gallery was closed when I went but Im sure its a wonderful experience when it is open.
They were in between exhibits when I was in town, so there wasnt too much to look at. But I still give this place a 5-star review. The gift shop is super nice (I spent at least 20 minutes just looking at all the neat stuff and picking up some souvenirs) and the woman working the gift shop was very polite. My partner has a business trip to Austin in November and I hope I can catch an exhibit next time!
