Open Wednesday through Sunday 10-1 then 2-5. Closed on Saturdays with a home football game. Walk around, appreciate the Ellsworth Kelly art and building. The colored light filtered through the windows is amazing!

Astonishing juxtaposition of an Ancient Greek temple merged with a pop art Igloo plopped down on the edge of the UT Austin campus. It seemingly fell out of the sky as if willed by Zeus and proudly sits there basking in all its glory. Never disappoints!

“Austin” Ellsworth Kelly’s last work and only building.Artist insists this is not a church, even though it is a crossed shape, since it serves no religious function. Kelly envisioned “Austin” as a site for joy and contemplation.I think it’s necessary to push one concept to an extreme level (like minimalism), you can decide you love it, or hate it, or maybe not so minimal we still need something else in life & art, but I appreciate someone is pushing it that hard.

Nice quiet space. Avoid going on an overcast day. It’s probably more interesting to see the shapes of the colors cast onto the walls when the sun is not diffused by clouds and is at an angle that is not directly above the building.Logistically, you need a ticket from the nearby Blanton Museum of Art and you can’t bring any backpacks in so you may as well go to the Blanton first and check your bags if you have any there. Then go see Blanton then The Color

This place is so peaceful and amazing to see on a sunny day. The sun will shift and the lights will change if your in there long enough. Went around 3 pm in spring and the lights were beautiful by the door.

An amazing experience. I wish I could have been alone in this spiritual setting. My only disappointment was that I went on a cloudy day. So I didnt experience the full effect of the windows.

I think that, since its listed as a museum/ at gallery, a lot of people go in with the wrong expectations. Think of it as a modern sculpture that is a building. One way to look at it is by imagining the stained glass as paint, creating slightly different works on the inside every day. So when you go in there, youre seeing something no one else will (even if you went when the sun is in exactly the same position, would cloud cover be the same?). Theres other ways to look at it too. This is longer than intended, but I saw a lot of disappointed reviews...

Interesting exhibits and friendly front desk. The price is also very reasonable for such a well-kept museum. Definitely coming back.

Amazing place to explore. Color windows on a rainy day makes it happier. :)

Think of this as very similar to a James Turrell skyspace where its about the experience of being present in a space. This is included with admission to the art museum, and you must check in to the art museum first (free for students; up to $12 for public). No food, drinks, backpacks, or flash photography.Incredibly whimsical, fun, and peaceful to be in the space. Highly recommended!

Ellsworth Kellys art sucks. There i said it. Its a cool building I suppose, but its about as soulless as the rest of his work(which is taking up an absurd amount of space in the Blanton). I think the space would be far better used displaying some actual talent.

This installation is really beautiful and is a lively space to spend so time ad part of your Blanton visit. Make sure you get your ticket at the main entrance.

Big letdown and not worth it. The “paintings” inside are just black and white single stripes with different angles which are not at all interesting. The colored glass is ok but there is hardly any of it. Disappointed.
