I love learning and playing here. Playing with my friends and learning for amazing coaches, helped me boast my confidence. I highly recommend coming to this gym and enroll next season. I love the clinics they host there.
My daughter was involved in another club when we discover Sports Performances home: Great Lakes Center. She spoke of wanting to play there permanently and the following year she ended up on one of the Sports Performances teams. The facility is excellent. As a spectator it is a great to watch volleyball. Plenty of seating on the main floor. An upper deck for observing (or just spending some of your downtime), the facility is huge and its obvious that the designers knew how to design a facility for volleyball. Parking is abundant. There are restaurants and stores nearby. It is conveniently situated not too far off of I-88 for those that are traveling. As a practice facility my daughter really enjoys practicing & playing there. On their website it says the volleyball surface has several layers of wood floor beneath the plastic volleyball surface. I think this really benefits the players, for sure my daughter who plays as a libero and dives/rolls frequently. She says that its the most comfortable for her to land on, I do believe its because of the wood beneath the floor (vs concrete as in so many other facilities). I think this is beneficial for all the kids who play there, not just the back row kids. I can only imagine how beneficial it is to muscles, joints and tendons to have a surface that gives a little to land on when jumping. I know how I feel when I just walk on a concrete surface all day, imagine translating that experience to a full on athletic experience! As a volleyball club I cannot say enough great things about the quality of instruction my daughter receives. They do a great job on focusing on your childs athletic abilities and then teach volleyball around their potential. It does not seem that many clubs are in the job of teaching athletic kids how to play: at many clubs (what Ive heard and experienced) its a mix of taking really already talented kids and exposing them to the better coaches on the higher teams while a kid who is just learning sort of gets put with whatever coach on a lower team OR its about who you know and if you arent political your child ends up with not the greatest coaching OR you would have had started your kid in the program at a very young age. So if your child is, lets say 14, and she or he arent very knowledgeable in volleyball, they may be stuck with poor coaching on a lower team and never really progress to the next level. So many fellow volley moms and dads have shared similar stories to what we experienced elsewhere, it does seem to be a trend & worth mentioning. If your kid isnt a natural or she/he hasnt been in the system by the time 8th grade or freshman year rolls around you/they may be out of luck at so many clubs, OR you will pay a ton of ca$h in private lessons trying to get them up to speed. At Sports Performance they have figured out a way where even the least knowledgeable player can train and learn and yes while they may be on the lower teams at Sports Performance they will learn on an elite level. Many times in competition beating out teams that are the first or second team at their gym! So if your kid displays some athletic ability they can grow as a player at Sports Performance. Its not that they take every player but they measure speed, jump height and jump distance and assess players by potential.Lastly the bang for your buck. Club is expensive. Once you factor in travel costs: club is very expensive. Any travel club you choose will end up being spendy. For what value you get Sports Performance ends up being a bargain. Your kid can utilize the gym at any time during hours of operation. If theres a court open they can practice or use the weight room. I dont have knowledge of any other Chicago area club that offers open gym hours on this level. My daughter went from playing on a team that was ranked at the bottom of all teams Nationally in her division one year to playing for Sports Performance the next year and actively contributing to a highly ranked team. Her skill set improved tremendously. There is no more to say. 5 stars.
There is so much room at Great Lakes, when I go to other facilities, we are all crammed in a small space. Great food options, never have to wait in the bathroom, its great! They are the best club around, their training is outstanding! Your son/daughter will improve greatly and be the best volleyball players that can be!
I highly recommend the club. If youre interested in the best volleyball, then Sports Performance is the perfect club for your athlete. Not only do they teach skills, drills and how to compete, but they teach life skills to help your daughter grow into a strong young woman. Also, one of the best facilities dedicated only to volleyball in the country!
My daughter really enjoys playing for Sports Performance. They expect the girls to work hard, but her skills have improved and she loves playing for them. Shes practiced with some great coaches and plays with talented players. Great experience so far!
