Really good place to hike, nice a quiet. Great for crystal findings, and rock hiding. Could have more crystals put up there◇♡
Nice easy hike but beware of unleashed dogs. I recommend that you carry dog biscuits to avert overprotective unleashed dogs.
Easy to moderate hike. Interesting quarries.
Super cool awesome gemstone mountain, had a great day with my woman and found a lot of gems, we will be going back again soon
Its an awesome spot for people who want a small hike but they have additional paths for people who want to take a longer hike. You will find so many spots along the way that you cant help but just stare at and hang out there for a little bit. So I would not hike here if youre looking for a super quick hike cause it will be !uch longer than you think
Cleaner than i remember from the way back, popular place, well groomed and marked
Great mountain bike trails, great variety with some technical trails and good down hills. Highly recommend. Great for families!
Nice area to walk . Woodsy. Quarries. People mining for quartz or whatever they mine for.
Probably one of my favorite places to ride so far
Fun place to hike and rock hunt.
I work up there every couple days, it has a gorgeous view!
I love this trail but it can be so buggy. I dont often feel like I can stop for even a small drink of water because I will get swarmed by biting flies and mosquitoes. Catch a hike at the right time of the season and its a fabulous trek through the forest!
This hike is absolutely amazing. The trails are clearly marked and interconnected. We took the blue loop trail out to the two water holes and the feldspar dump piles. The trail was a moderate hike with little rest stops at every junction. We had a great time exploring the water holes and ledges. We spent 2 hours digging through the dump piles from the mine. The reward was a beautiful piece of dark Smokey quartz and a sizable garnet chunk, as well as some smaller facets and pieces. Unfortunately we lost our trail markings coming back out and ended hiking the roads back to our car. Even so it was a great adventure and we plan to go again very soon.
Pretty nice walking trails. Not to hard of a hike
Great place for hiking or snow shoeing. Dog friendly. Multiple trails to choose from
Its a great place to go for a quick hike when you dont want to travel far. Plenty of options for length you want to go. Only thing is trails could be labeled better
I loved this little hike into the mining site. It was fun chiseling and throwing rocks to see if you could find a gem inside
Very nice shaded trail. Plenty to explore. Not where I was expecting it to be. But great place to jog or walk your dog. It says the trails can be used for horses but I honestly wouldnt. The terrain is really unstable and Rocky, lots of bridges I think most horses would refuse to go over.
Peace and quiet!
Great hike to take with young kids. The quarry was fun to dig around and find some great mementos. Trails are decently marked. Some wonderful views as well.
This park is great. I came across an active prospector mining for quartz. Apparently people have found gold?! Anyway the park is very walkable and not super strenuous. It has some cool ponds with fish and a pretty good viewing area. Only real complaint is that its not bigger.
A welcome escape from the beach.
Great for hiking, rock hounding n getting lost. (In the good way) :)
Interesting place to hike. Old quarry area is worth the trip.
Its my Uncles place on top of the mountain. Beautiful up thier.
Nice place for an easy hike with kids. Been coming here for years
I love digging rocks with the kids here
The hike was fun and Maine is amazing but loads of mosquitos. This could be fun for families as a rock hounding experience but not really a place for real digging
Love going and gem hunting at the quarrys or u can just go for a great hike!!
Beautiful hike to the quarry. Definitely need bug spray!
Be careful if trying to use the cities trail maps. They are very confusing and you can end up walking around somewhat lost.
Very buggy in some spots, beautiful views. Trails marks arebut still easy to maneuver and find quarry
It was a really nice easy hike with tadpoles and frogs in a quiet little pond near the top
Poor trail sign.but excellent wildlife
Not much of a challenge for experienced hikers yet it is a very cool area to explore. Very cool little Pond where you can watch the hornpout rise up to the surface then dive back down. And lots of areas to search for gems and minerals. Its been a couple hours trying to Chisel out some Garnetts as souvenirs. Just watch out for dog poo, apparently people who walk their dogs dont know how to clean up after them.
Great place for a nice day hike
Trails were poorly marked but still fun
Awesome place. Did a solo hike here once, Ill never forget it. Amazing experience.
Nice trails with maps throughout
Nice little hike best views from the mica feilds
Nice place, easy hike in. Found many garnets and a small aquamarine.
Awesome place better than hotel parking lot
Great place to get out of the house and get some exercise. Especially after a long hard winter.
Interesting park to wander around, with little ponds in the remnants of quarries and a wide range of feldspar, quartz, mica (and I hear other stones like tourmaline) scattered about. One entrance involves parking by the nearby baseball fields and walking past an Army National Guard outpost into the woods (stay straight on the trail in and youll eventually see trail signs for Mount Apatite Park).
Great place to mountain bike or walk the dog. Many miles of trails around an abandoned quarry and remnant ponds. Trail marking is iffy so make sure you have an idea of where your going or an accessible map.
Great place for family hikes, or somewhat leisurely hiking. There is a good network of single track mountain biking trails. In the winter the network of snowmobile trails are groomed making them good for hiking, skiing, and fat biking. Some of the single track also get snowshoe packed as well
It was a beautiful fall day for a hike with a friend. We didnt have a lot of time so it was a short hike (a little over an hour). There were many trails and we could have taken half the day exploring!
This was by far one of my favorite hikes. The traffic was light and the dogs loved it! The quarry was amazing we brought home a bunch of different stones and gems. I could have spent all day there and filled a back pack with all the good finds!
It’s a great place to explore, lots of fun!!!
Was a easy hike and very peaceful
Watch out for the bears️
Poor trail markings
Great trails for Mt. Bike enthusiasts. Though I did find the trails poorly marked, it was a great ride with a few scenic pools in the center of the park which is a good, shady place to picnic. If youve never been before, topo maps can be downloaded from City of auburn website, which helped me greatly.
Fun hike. Dog friendly.
Mt. Apatite offers a wonderful opportunity to get into the woods, close to town. I bring my dogs, who go off-leash, although I carry leashes just in case. There are rock quarries, where people still dig and hammer, hoping for tourmaline or apatite. There are also ponds. Swimming is illegal, and the water doesnt look like something Id want to swim in (think snapping turtles, leeches, and hidden mining waste). But my dogs love the water after a hot hike.My only problem with Mt. Apatite is the horrible signage on the trails. Ive gotten lost a couple of times, and Ive come across several others who were lost. Bring a map, which you can get online through the Auburn parks department. But be prepared to get lost anyway.Oh, the hours are daylight, whatever that happens to be.
Fun location for rockhounding. I am not sure if I parked in the right spot and we didnt find much other than quartz.
Great trails for hiking around. The trails are in great shape, the woods are very quiet and secluded. There are enough muddy places that mountain biking can be difficult and messy. In the winter there are trails for snowmobiling (which I have not tried) and groomed trails for cross- country skiing or snow shoeing. The ponds high up freeze in the winter and produce amazing icicles!
Poland Mining Camp trip found lots of good specimens, guide great camp rustic, clean and food like home with Mary Groves wonderful company
Nice local place for a quick hike. Often see many people, but still a nice trail.
Very buggy so if u go take lots of bug spray. The trails could have been cleaned up better but it was a great walk
This place is really interesting. You park where the National Guard practices - they were there when I visited. There are old quarries everywhere, hiking trails, few other people. You can actually bring a hammer and chisel and do some of your own prospecting, if you want to.
Good hiking although we were glad we read reviews first because it wasnt the best marked trails. We did get a couple of gems and we are going back!
Great hiking spot. Quarries on top.People mine the rocks. Quiet wooded area
Nice short hike. Not hard at all.
Nice short walk.
Kids had a blast great family place
Great place to hike, walk your dog, ride a bike or snowshoe. It has 325 acres and is very quiet and wild.
Bugs, mud and double track. Did I mention the bugs.
Took my daughter there. We hiked, looked for treasures in the stones, saw giant tadpoles and met a lot of nice people.
Great place to walk and run and explore with families. It doesnt offer much for views and there are many little trails that intersect which could get confusing for some people. Signage is poor.
So Much fun
Love this place. serene with great wildlife. fun digging for tourmaline
To buggy, mostly up hill, and washed out in the spring and summer unless you enter through the National Guard station
Great mountain biking!
Just not enough time, beautiful, get close to nature, and peaceful.
Good place to hike and walk a dog
Great place to look for stones
Very confusing trail system. Available maps do not match the terrain. Found myself, along with a stranger, unable to find our way out. I found my start location, but gave the stranger a ride at least 1mile to her starting location
Great place to bring your family rock hounding, hiking or just enjoy nature trails.
I walk this park early in the morning with my furry buddy and wish the trails would never end. I suggest you park at the entrance off of Hatch Road to Small Road instead of by the ballfields off of Garfield. The trailhead is right there instead of hiking through the ballfields, military complex and sand to find the unmarked trailhead.
Great hikes and gem digging
Great place to explore !
Fun area for the kids. A few geocahes top find too!
Great new trails
Small hill with great trails
Fun in the snow with the dog!
Great place for dog waking / dog running:-)
Nice single track trails for mountain biking
New trails are Dynamite, on its way to being single track Mecca.
Kids and Dog friendly
Very interesting area
