Yes I visited the museum and I was quite impressed at all the literature and art of African American people and of male figures in the black community and how involved they are with helping African American boys become entrepreneur men and respectable gentleman and society I recommend this museum to anybody

This is a gem in the West End. Get to know whats showing (read their website) before you go... Some of the exhibits hit hard and fast, while many might seem underwhelming at first, if you are expecting a typical art museum. With any of the exhibits, you need to stop, sit down on one of the available comfy benches, and let the art soak in.

Great museum! I would plan it to do with something else. Our visit was less than an hour. The home its located in is beautiful, and to park free anywhere in Atlanta is divine! The exhibits were interesting as well.

Grand asset to the community. Go. Support artists (usually local). Ask questions. Learn about the house, its former owners, the neighborhood. Worth the trip. NOTE: Theres a parking lot behind the house, but a one-way street complicates getting in there - use Google Maps directions to get there by making the destination the parking lot out back!

Excellent place to visit, former home of Dr. Otis Thrash Hammond. Dr. Hammond had a love for Black art, Dr. Hammond home serve as an museum art gallery in Historic West End. Historic West End area is an African American community situated in southwest Atlanta. America Jim Crow Lawless Government system controlled and dominated areas where Black citizens in Atlanta could live. Through such a horric system, African American citizens were forced to live on the southwest side of Atlanta. Today, Black Atlanta still live in this area, our historic Black collages/universities are here and the first African American public high school is here. Check out the great vegan businesses situated in historic West End/southwest Atlanta. After years of struggle and progress, historic West End now are faced with bad politicans, greedy developers, and gentrification. These are the sane people that forced Jim Crow Lawless Government on this community, now, today these preditors need to find another tactics way to steal African American real estate properties. Community beware of coons in your communities.

Former home of the late Otis Thrash Hammond. Presents an African American Art gallery museum situated in Historic West End Village. This African American community is considered the beginning of the city of Atlanta. Here Atlanta, through southern Jim Crow system of laws, the black communities were mostly forced to the western portion of Atlanta, today, making this area one of the wealthiest African American community in America.

During the 2nd winter break we bought groupons to take the children to museums in the Atlanta area. Our first stop was the Hammond House. We almost left after knocking for 20 minutes, finally a gentleman answered. The board of directors were having a meeting and they did not hear us knocking. The displays were interesting, we did not get a tour so we were just reading the cards on the wall next to the art exhibits. I appreciate the effort put in, it looks like they could use funding to spruce it up a bit.
